I am a 39 year old woman who was on prednisone for 14 years as a regular med. for asthma. From the time I was 14 months until I was almost 15. I stopped taking it on my own when I was 14. I over heard the doctor tell my mother they wanted to start weening me off it because I would probably be sterile. But, it would take 6 months to ween me off. So I did it myself.I spent my entire 8th grade year in the hospital. After not taking it for awhile, my asthma actually improved and I also was able to go off the other med.I was on and now only have an inhaler when I need it.
I have the moon face, I was lucky and didn't get the barrel chest. But the lasting side effects are still there. I rarely sleep, I am still have nervesness. But the big one. I am now a Type 1 brittle diabetic and must wear an insulin pump. I go to the doctor an average of once to twice a week. I have more doctors than I know what to do with. I have had to have surgery done to my heart because of a murmur.
The doctors feel that the diabetes is from prolonged use of this med. and that it destroyed my pancreas. All it took was a cortizone shot and I went from nothing to this. I do have 2 children, I had them very young and I mean young. 23 & 21 years ago.I am sterile and never have been able to have more children.
I have had almost every side effect listed. Nausea, weight gain, insomnia, bloating, etc...
Taking myself off this med. like I did. Almost killed me...I don't remember my childhood other than living in the hospital and that was my childhood. I hated this med. I remembered everything and everyway it made me feel. I will not allow my family to use this when it is prescribed for them.

Has anyone on or having taken Yasmin experienced actual chest pains? Like the sense initially aches/pressure in the chest? That comes and goes? I am asking because I had this and still do after being off of Yasmin for 2 months. I also have been diagnosed with a "murmur" (which is irregular flow of blood) which I think I have now seen plenty of women complaining about.
Has anyone now off of Yasmin relieved the trouble with the plugged/pressure in the ears? I am using a Nasal rinse bottle and that seems to help a little bit. I did mention in previous emails that a hearing doctor told me that they have known for a long time that ortho-contraceptive pills are odo-toxic meaning toxic to the inner ear because of the way they adjust fluid levels in the body which directly impacts fluid levels in the inner ear. This is just so crazy to me that they know that and yet, no where do I see this published and the RN's and Doctors don't know this?
this has clearly for me been such a lesson in responsibility for personal health and warey of drugs in general at this point.

I started taking this pill upon recommendation of a highly reputable Medical Doctor in January of 2004. At first, I thought highly about this pill however within a very short period of time, I discovered several problems that took me almost two years to discover/attribute to this pill.
6 months after starting this pill, I noticed serious changes in my vision. In particular my right eye. My next visit with the eye doctor confirmed that I had gone almost legally blind in my right eye. Following 34 years of very good vision this was very strange.
In the next two years, I noticed that shortly after I would take the pill, my ears would have a popping sensation. They would actually close up so I felt like I was talking in a bubble. This would continue for sometimes, up to two hours after taking the pill.
One and half years after taking this pill, I started experiencing squeezing sensations in my chest-on the left side, just under my breast bone. Over the next six months, this sensation spread across my chest. I went to an RN I had seen years past because I knew that something was off. She confirmed a murmur and they did an EKG which appeared to be normal.
In addition, I had my hearing checked. I discovered in this testing, that my hearing was fine but I discussed the sensations I was experiencing in my ears-pressure which I am actually now still experiencing 2 months after discontinuing Yasmin. He told me that ortho-contraceptives have been known for a long time to be "odo-toxic". That means, toxic to the inner ear! As we talked, he told me that the oral contraceptives change fluid levels in the body-I knew that Yasmin increased potassium levels-bingo-he told me it was likely that the inner ear fluid which is composed of potassium, was out of balance and that this would, could likely cause the sensation of pressure.
The pharmacist didn't know this. The prescribing doctor didn't know this and the RN I went to see didn't know any of this.
Two months after dis-continuing this pill, I am still experiencing squeezing sensations in my chest and my ear drums feel like they have alot of pressure in them. I am likely going to see another Doctor very soon.

38 yr. old female, prescribed Toprol for irregular heart beat/palps/murmur that I've had all my life but increased earlier this year to uncontrollable. Medication has also helped my migraines tremendously.
I started at 25mg tab/day, 6 months ago. I have adjusted dosage to 1/2 tab/day and take it at lunch time. This seems to be the best fit so far.
Most notable side effects: odd dreams every night (not nightmares), weight gain and mood changes.
These have only lessened in intensity with dosage change (not recommended for everyone - depends on heart condition severity).
Weight gain is most annoying (15 lbs. in 5 months) - must keep calorie/fat/carb intake in check and exercise daily. Going to try anyways...I like Toprol and don't want to give it up unless there is something to help with side effects.

I have been on Yasmin for 2 years now. It is the only BC I have ever been on and have LOVED it up until about 3 months ago. All of a sudden I started having heart palpitations, sever chest pains, extreme fatigue, very bloated in my stomach, low sex drive, pain and tingling in my arms and legs, dizziness, shortness of breath, trouble swallowing, weight gain and major mood swings! I went to the DR and they did an EKG (which was normal) Tested my blood (I now have a thyroid problem that I have never had before) and they did an ultrasound (Dr that I may have a murmur) on my heart and the results came back fine. So the DR prescribed me Synthroid for the thyroid problem and the DR said that should help me gain my energy back, loose some weight and would take care of the heart palpitations. The other symptoms he contributed to Stress (Panic Attacks) I have been on Synthroid for 5 weeks now and I don't feel any better in fact I feel worse!
This morning I seen a commercial for a lawsuit against Yaz or Yasmin. Well since I am non Yasmin I immediately did a search and came across this site. I have literally been sitting here all night reading all the comments from different women and now know what my problem is. My problem is YASMIN! I am not taking this anymore and have an appt with my Dr tomorrow to have them do whatever they need to do to see if I have any blockage or any other damage from using this pill. My chest pains and the tightness in my chest are so severe that it takes my breath away and I am only 24! I am not ready for children and don't want to deal with bad periods like I had before getting on the pill but I can not take this rise. PLEASE if you are on Yasmin please stop taking it immediately and call your doctor Your life could depend on it!! I am hoping like other people who have commented that after a few weeks of being off the pill that I will feel so much better. I hope I am getting off of it in time before I have done any further damage.
