Prednisone has been a life-saver for many years. I have SLE and along with all the heavy-hitting immune suppressant meds, I take tapered doses of prednisone 4-5 times per year when joint and muscular pain are so severe I'm bedridden. When I'm on prednisone I feel like I'm on vacation!!! The pain in my body is totally eliminated except for one area: I get horrible sinus headaches. It feels like my sinus cavities are on fire and there's pressure within my eyes and blurred vision. Once I finish my tapered dose the pain trades off - painful body and normal sinuses.

Has anyone every heard of this?

I had cough for almost a month when I started to feel a light localized pain in the lower rib area, between the breast and the upper abdomen. ( when taking a deep breath or coughing). Then I was prescribed levofloxacin (levaquin) 500 for 10 days for a “supposed” pneumonia and sinusitis, no RX or lab tests done, by one pneumologist. Well, I felt others side effects but what really matters is that after 2 days taking the medication the pain worsen a lot, felt like a stab. I could not move in bed, was difficult to move, seat, get up, drive, work, whatever… In the fifth day I complained to the doctor who said I had muscular pain and the pneumonia was gone, but I should continue the 10 days treatment. So I did. After 7 days I felt when coughing that something was stretching and unsticking in the pain area. After the total disconnection the pain diminished a lot. Second week, back stabbing pain, third week front pain again, same type and disconnection, then diminished. Fourth week I felt something was loose , crackling in the area while driving or doing some movements. I also felt painful, loose knees and painful elbows. After many doctors, many exams and RXs done, now I know I had chronic bronchitis and costochondritis and I ended up with two ruptures of the costal cartilage, ( costochondral junctions ) 6ª and 7ª ribs, caused by levofloxacin. The RXs now show calcifications , body repairing the ruptures. I can not exercises now for 3 months. Ah…The sinusitis was back 2 weeks after stopping the medication. What I say now is: God protect us from some stupid doctors and these dangerous medicines !!!

I'm about 1.5 months into being on Yaz. For the year & a half prior, I had a non-hormonal IUD which I only stopped because of the excessive bleeding it caused the entire time I had it. A month and a half into being on Yaz, my breast are so sore and enormously bloated (like when I was pregnant). I've also had very bad stomach pain - not cramping, but burning and muscular pain. I've also be excessively tired. I tend towards not being super-energetic, but now I feel very, very lethargic. After reading all the posts and researching Yaz's side effects, I may stop after the end of this pack. The one thing I did absolutely love was the ~ 3-4 day, very light period. But, that benefit isn't worth the side effects. :(

I have been taking the pill for 7 days. Yesterday I woke up at 3 am feeling very nauseous. I decided to just try and go back to sleep, and slept until about 9 am afterwards. Upon waking up I had to run to the bathroom and I threw up bile for several hours. I also have severe lower abdominal pain, I don't ever get cramps so I don't know if thats what it is, and no, it is not muscular pain from throwing up. My moods are out of control, and have been since the third day on it, I cry at everything. I have bad heartburn, and I am exhausted. My breasts are also extremely sore, and my skin is absolutely terrible. Is this normal, or is it possible I am pregnant?

I am 52. I have had elevated choles. levels for the last 10 years. I have been on numerous statin drug during that time. The most recent has been lipitor. 2001 I had a heart attack and quintuple bypass surgery. My doctor put me on lipitor. I recovered quickly from the heart attack. The nightmare following the surgery was chronic muscular pain in the abdominal area. I have spent the last five years have been spent in medical testing, surgeries, and pain management. Most of that time the doctors assumed it was gastointestinal. But it was not consistent with gastrointestinal symptoms. Recently we determined it was neuromuscular. Symptoms have been:
Severe abdominal muscle pain, extreme fatigue, foggy thinking, euphoria and extreme mental depression, neck pain, back pain. I have watched my life fall apart after 25 years of successful financial planning. Timing can be tied very closely to the use and increased dosages of the statin family of drugs. The only warning I received from any of my doctors was possible liver problems. I am wanting to know if there are any definitive tests for muscular or neuromuscular effects of statin drugs.

I had a Kenalog shot in May and my life has not been the same since. I went to a doctor for shoulder blade pain which he immediately diagnosed as muscular. I never believed it to be muscular pain, as the pain started while I was at rest. 4 days after the shot the pain started spreading downward into my kidneys and stomach. I couldn't eat due to extreme intestinal distress. I lost 16 lbs over the next few weeks. I later learned Kenalog can cause ulcers, plus I was on Ibuprofen (which the doctor never asked me) which can increase the risk of intestinal damage. It is over 2 months later and I can't tell you the hell I have lived in - I am still sick, severe body pain and neurological pins and needles sensation. I spoke with a lawyer who said doctors are bound by their attorneys to never admit their drug could cause damage, he also said the Kenalog could have been bad or tainted. My leg/body pain is severe and I don't know if I will ever be the same again. I have not had a period since the shot. One doctor suggested the Kenalog could have stressed my system and released a dormant virus. Or the original shoulder blade pain was an infection and the Kenalog disseminated throughout my body. There is no answer or relief. It suppresses the immune system and cause false negatives on blood tests.
All I can say is please say a pray for me and stay away from Kenalog.

memory loss, horrible back pain, joints pain, muscular pain, neck pain. I have had surgeries to no avail, I just had 2 Epidurals to my Lumbar and Cervical region, numerous MRI's, x-rays, and it all came down to Lipitor...I went to a spinal surgeon 8 days ago, begging him to do spinal surgery as I have some collapsed discs, he could not figure out why I had so much pain in my right side when the pain should have been on my left side. He stated that he wouldn't do surgery as it could make the pain worse. He could not understand what was going on..as I was leaving in tears because the pain was so bad, and I couldn't find help, his nurse caught me at the elevator and told me the doctor wanted me to try going off Lipitor for 3 weeks to see if the pain got better. I have been off of Lipitor for 8 days and the pain has already subside so much that it is unbelievable. for the first time last night, I slept without my Vicodin and muscle spasm relaxers. I have gone through memory losses, balance problems. I have been to nuerosurgeons, Orthopedic specialists, Neurologists, I have had 8 surgeries for joint pain. I really believe that Pfizer ought to reimburse us for all of our pain and suffering, our testings done, our Epidurals, our medicines that we have been living on. for the last 8 months the pain was pure hell. I hope the food and drug administration and Pfizer is happy with themselves for not releasing the true story and the symptoms of Lipitor that can and are happening to people all over our country.

I went on Lipitor several years ago. After awhile I had a lot of muscular pain so I told my doctor I was going to cut the medication to every other night. That seemed to help for awhile, but I also started taking 500 mg Niacin (to raise good cholesterol level) about 8 months ago. In the last few months, I have gotten to the point where I can hardly get up from a sitting position and my legs ache and hurt all the time. In addition to this, my skin has discolored and has what looks like a rash under the outer skin. It looks horrible and has come on so fast. This is on my legs. My doctor said last week that my pulse was weak in my feet and legs so he told me to stop taking the Niacin and Lipitor for now. I hope this will help. I have always been a very active person, and I feel like Lipitor is surely to blame when you start having all kinds of muscle problems where there have been none before taking it.

Hello everyone!
I have been on Prednisone for about 2 years ( ave. 10 mg a day) I went through my pregnancy with it as well. After the baby, I decided to ween myself off of prednisone. ( I have EG, which is an inflammatory bowel disease) Since then, I developed Shingles, muscular pain, joint pain all over and I seem to get throat infections all the time. I had 3 in the last 5 months. Has anybody had this problem? I had a relapse of abdominal pain couple days ago and I am back on pred. 5 mg. a day.

If you scroll down a ways you'll see entries by Leah. Leah is my sister. She had terrible problems with Yasmin and I have too!

I was on Yasmin for just over 3 years, I stopped taking it this month becase Leah and all of you convinced me that I wasn't really a sickly & emotional mess... it was Yasmin's fault!

Over the past 3 years I've been suffering from the following side effects I now believe are directly related to Yasmin:

Clouded Thinking/Poor Attention Span
Depression (I've been on 2 anti-depressants for almost 3 yrs)
Anxiety (I've been on an anti-anxiety medication)
Violent Mood Swings
Night Sweats
Daily Headaches
Feeling tired all the time
Poor Circulation
Shortness of Breath
Leg Cramps at night that wake me up
Cronic Muscular Pain in my back
NO sex drive

It's been almost 2 weeks since I stopped taking Yasmin. Already my thinking is clearer, I have more energy, less headaches and the sex drive of a teenager! From what I've read here it sounds like things will continue to improve in the next few months. I'll keep you updated. Thanks everyone!

I have been on 10mg daily dose of Lipitor for over 2 years now. When I was first prescribed the drug my doctor stated that because my cholesterol was so high I would not be able to control the levels through diet alone and would therefore need to take Lipitor indefinately.
Initially my blood cholesterol dropped dramatically & I & the doctor were pleased with the result.
I continued eating a similar diet to before which was balanced, with no excess fats or salt although I was eating red meat on a routine basis.
About six months ago I started experiencing severe muscular pain in my neck & shoulders. My neck muscles became so inflamed & immobile that I had days when work was impossible (I am a chauffeur/butler). These pains did not respond to antiinflamatory or pain killers. I made two visits to an oestiopath & received manipulation & massage. The relief was temporary but not complete.
Just one month ago I cut out red meat, most animal fats & changed my diet, replacing the red meat content with grilled fish or chicken. I eat lots of fruit, vegetables & salads.I also take a multivitamin dose. At the same time as my diet change I increased my excercise regime.
WITHIN ONE WEEK of the new regime I experienced severe muscle cramps & my joints 'dried' to the point where they clicked & cracked whenever I moved them. I suspected the LIPITOR so I stopped immediately.
In just a few days the joints stopped clicking & grinding & my six month old muscle pains disappeared. This I think is not a coincidence.
I am male, 43 years old & very active with no other medical conditions of any kind.

I was very interested to find this site and the information people have provided. I think that almost any information found on the internet must be taken with a grain of salt: A particular car may receive rave reviews from several owners, while the same one is bashed as the worst vehicle possible by others. There are web sites that show "proof" that we never went to the moon, and other ones which have been set up to debunk them. As such, I hope that everyone will decide for themselves whether Levaquin is good or bad for them. As for me......

I had a script for Levaquin, given to me for a previous upper respiratory infection. At that time, I was able to beat it on my own without the meds. Over this past weekend, I developed a sinus infection *and* an upper resp. infection, and decided to employ the Levaquin (500 mg).

Monday night, I had very little in the way of side effects. Some slight muscular pain, mild chills/sweats, and restlessness, all of which could be attributed to the fact that I just generally felt bad. Last night, however, I took the second dose, and within about two hours, it felt as if somone had sucked every bit of moisture from my joints. Stretching alleviated some of the discomfort, and I was able to get to sleep, which did bring some pretty strange dreams.

Based on these symptoms (and after reading others' experiences), I'm going to cease the Levaquin, and see how things progress.... a "better safe than sorry" approach. If the infections don't subside, then I suppose it's off to the doc for an alternate solution.

Thanks again to everyone for posting your experiences, both good and bad.

I was prescribed 500mg of Levaquin for 10 days for a UTI and after the 3 dose I could hardly walk. I have terrible joint and muscular pain in my knees, toes and fingers, extreme weakness. My blood preasure has gone up and I have lost weight and taste. All these symptoms persist after a month. I am under 40.

I don't think this is a new side effect, but I don't see a list here anywhere. I have terrible joint and muscular pain all over my body after taking 10 days of Levaquin for kidney infection. Although I finished the medicine 3 days ago, the pain it still intense. I also have intermittent ringing in my ears and other symptoms. It is interfering in my life and I resent not being told the risks before I took it.
