I am so glad for everyone's post. I have read so many of your posts and had a lot of a ha moments. I was prescribed Avelox 400 in July 2009. After I took my last dose (10 days), I experienced severe joint pain in my knees, hips, neck, back, shoulders and elbow. Then it went to my fingers. I hurt so bad I couldn't open the door for my dog to go outside. The pain is not so bad anymore, but it is still there. When I get up from writing this I will have a hard time walking. I started loosing brushfuls of hair daily. I now have shortness of breathe. I cry at the weirdest times. I get upset, mad at the littlest things. I have a patch of skin on my back that is constantly irritated, like your shirt tag is rubbing against it but it is not near where my shirt tag is. My husband thinks I am crazy, he says there is nothing there. I started getting stabbing pains in my chest and back, for no reason at all. My mind is like Swiss cheese. I am tired a lot, I want to take several naps a day.
I took all of these things as a sign of getting older...before taking Avelox I felt and acted like a 30 something person now I feel and act like my dad and he is 75.....
I hope we all get to feeling the way we felt before Avelox!!!

I'm a 19 year old college student and a I've been on Yasmin for about 3 years. I started the pill because after two major surgeries, my body was traumatized, leaving me with very heavy periods and feeling tired all the time. I started Yasmin and at first, was very happy with it. I didn't lose weight on it, but I didn't gain any weight, either, which is what happened when I tried taking other birth control pills. However, after my senior year, I went off to college, where the problems began. It seemed that anytime I was under stress, my anxiety and bad mood would amplify. I got mad at my boyfriend over small things to the point of wanting to break up with him. Thank goodness he was patient with me! I began having panic attacks and although I was living in horrible conditions at school, I just chalked it up to not being ready to move off, etc. I came home the next semester and had the same problems. Anytime my boyfriend and I get into an argument, I can feel myself get heated up and I become uncontrollably angry. I hate myself when this happens. I have also been very tired. Some mornings, I can't stay awake in class and since I've been on the pill, I have felt the need to take naps way more often than usual. I plan to stop taking this pill as soon as my month is up!

I am so glad I came across this website! I have always read that birth control is not the cause of weight gain, but I just could not understand how after years not dealing with weight as an issue that within a matter of a few months I had gained nearly 10 lbs! I exercise 4-7 times per week intensely and have recently been watching every calorie I've taken in and still managed to gain a ton of weight! Also, I've noticed that I've been increasingly lethargic lately and could not figure out why I needed to take at least 2 hour naps everyday. Needless to say, I will be calling my doctor tomorrow and telling him everything. Thanks for everyones comments!

I am seventeen years old and i have been on Aviane for almost three months. I have never been on any pill, this is my first time on the pill. I read all the side effects and i have had different side effects from the ones i have read. My sex drive has gone up and i have irregular periods. This month i have had my period again for the third time. this has never happened to me before. So i searched online and found this website which is a great relief. I have also been very tired, taking naps and having having heart burns without even eating. I have not been eating well either, i eat 1-2 meals a day or go on without eating at all. I've been having headaches two to three times a week. Some days i experience cramping without being on or near the time of my period.

Thank you all for sharing your feedback here. Reading this has come as a true relief. I've had the ring almost 2 weeks now, my gyn gave me one after i mentioned i was interested in other options besides the pill. I started the pill almost 3 years ago because my period cramps were so bad. I always use a condom and use the pill as backup in case theres an accident. I hated having to remember it, so she popped in a ring before i could really say OK I GUESS. I was not sold on it because i knew there were different side effects, but she insisted that it was "just like the pill".

Lies.

Today almost broke down crying for no reason in front of all my coworkers. I have been really depressed, to the point where its affecting my work and friendships and i can barely do anything. The first week of the ring i was so tired, i took 3 hour naps in the middle of the day...

I am 24, exercise regularly and take very good care of myself, and from the first day of having the ring i was weary. I have been having so much discharge that i have to wear a liner, the discharge has an odor that's totally embarrassing (i told my gyn and she said there was no way it was the ring, probably an infection, just see if it goes away). I've never ever had a yeast infection...though I bet I will now that I have read everyone elses statements.

I feel disgusting, im so bloated i look pregnant, all i want to do is eat, i have no motivation to exercise which is a real problem as i do races and marathons. I know I have gained weight....weight that I have worked very hard all summer to get rid of...that i have gained in not even 2 weeks...

i have absolutely ZERO sex drive. I never thought I would care about that last one, but I feel like i have become a passionless robot from Brave New World or something. It SUCKS. nothing turns me on. I thought it was my last boyfriend that was the problem, but I'm dating again, and I have no desire. its becoming really sad for me.

i always had a little acne break out on my chin, but i have had a bunch of breakouts nonstop.

thats it in a nutshell. i already told my gyn i want to go back to the pill, because of the discharge alone being enough of a nuisance. she said wait and try it a while. I'm talking to her in the next couple days and insisting a switch back to the pill before i am due for another ring. i cant wait to get the thing out. i don't really think its a good idea to have a plastic thingy shoved up in there anyways.

i wish we didn't have to get all hopped up on hormones that throw our bodies off so much.... :( i hate it.

34 year old woman with UTI. I was placed on Macrobid and this is my hird day taking it. I was feeling sooo bad that i started doing searches and found this site and Im happy I did I thought I was crazy. extreme nausea (feels like morning sickness) the thought of any food makes me ill, headaches, sharp stomach pains, extreme fatigue, I generally feel like I have a terrible flu without a fever. I have never had symptoms like this before while taking an antibiotic. I feel so drained that I've been taking 3-4 hour naps during the day. Will call doctor to change prescription. I would rather suffer with the UTI than this!!!

I've only been on the NuvaRing for a month now. i just had my first cycle and the moodiness was horrible. i woke up the second day full of anger. i have been fighting with my boyfriend which isn't normal at all. he will say something and i know he doesn't mean it in a rude or hurtful way, i even tell myself that but within seconds i start yelling at him. Today i started getting angry at myself because i'm not where i thought i would be in my life. yes i get like that sometimes but today was really bad, i cried for two hours. i am super tired all the time. i have to take naps with my daughter. sex hurts because of dryness. sometimes it burns so bad with i pee it makes me cry. i'm not sure if my recently poor eye sight has anything to do with the NR but it just popped out of no where. i have headaches all the time. and the cramps are horrible. i'm really glad i checked out this site. i haven't heard anything bad from friends who use NR so i almost didn't look into it. thanks everyone!

Hey guys, just wanted to thank you for speaking out. I just had a baby three months ago and so my doctor suggested the Mirena. Two months after my pregnancy I had it inserted, however 10 days later I started having these exact symptoms: dizziness/foggy head, anger/anxiety/and moodiness, I new something was wrong. In addition, the string attached to the IUD hurt and irritated me down there. Realizing my gut instinct is usually spot on, I decided to research a little and thankfully found you guys. When I went back to my doctor and informed her of my symptoms she said the symptoms were due to sleep deprivation from the baby ( but I am a stay at home mom, and therefore take naps with my baby) hormones, and that it takes a while to adjust to my body. She said I should stay with it. However after a good 21 days, I had her remove it. It has only been two days and I am still feeling dizzy. I guess it takes a while for the drug to exist your body. My mom has been in the medical profession and has always informed me that the drug companies withhold many truths as they are a franchise and optimally want to make their money. The sicker we stay (sometimes from their own drugs) the richer they become as we now need another drug to counteract the first. Be careful ladies and lets stick together. We know our bodies better then any one else!

I have been on lamictal for about 7 months. I was not happy with the side effects I was experiencing (no sleep, bad motor skills, brain working slow) plus I was still having fits of rage and suicidal thoughts. I finally had enough and last week told my doctor that I wanted to get off to see if I felt any difference, because I pretty much felt the same on the 200mg than before I started. I'm slowly being weened off and now I am down to 100mg. So far I have not been getting up in the middle of the night as much and actually slept a total of 7 hours and only woke up once in the middle of the night for like 2 minutes versus the waking up every 1 to 2 hours and sometimes not being able to go back to sleep at all. My conversation ability has been returning and I'm not so nervous to talk and lose my train of thought or try to search for the right word. I've been dealing with a difficult situation in my life and I actually feel like I'm handling it better now than when I was on the full dosage . The only downside so far which is probably withdrawal is that I'm extra sleepy and I've been having to take 2 hour naps during the but I have a feeling that will go away. Besides my body might be making up for lost time from the 3-4 hours of sleep I was getting. I'm looking forward to being off of it soon.

Oh my lord, im about to cry now, i have mirena and i loved it at first, i loved not having to take a dumb pill and all that. ive hd my mirena for about 5 months and i didn't think it was causing any side effects at all. until about 2 weeks ago i got this huge headache. i still have it! it makes me sick to even look at my phone because my head hurts so bad. i feel nausea and tired all the time. i don't want to have sex, its painful and i have no drive at all. and i smell pretty funky down THERE. ya know? i didn't think it was because of my mirena but now that iv been to like 3 or 4 different sites and people are saying they had the same symptoms i had, im wondering if it is my mirena. i tell you what i cannot sleep at night and everyday i come home and take naps, ive been getting sharp pains in my lower abdomen that almost bring me to my knees and i swear i can feel it moving around, like when your a few months pregnant and the baby moves, thats how it feels, the thing is im not pregnant i take monthly tests because im paranoid. also ive had about 5 bladder infections in the past 5 months ve had mirena. funny huh? well my sister just found out that bladder infections are a side effect. bet your dr. didn't tell you that, mine didn't either. ive never had a bladder infection in my life. they hurt so bad ive been to specialists and they cant figure out why i have them. im thinking the mirena. Thank you all so much for sharing your stories, because i think im going to get mine removed so i can be myself again...

I have been on Singulair longer than I can recall... at least 10 years, maybe longer. My 7 year old son has been on it since he was probably 12 months old. Neither one of us have had any problem reported here. No depression, no sleeplessness (until I weaned him from naps, he slept up to 13 hours a day), no leg cramps, nothing. We are two of the happiest, most well adjusted people you could know. And, best of all, we haven't had any asthma attacks. Bottom line, different drugs react differently in different people. Don't let the post here stop you from trying a medication that for some could mean the difference between life and death depending on how asthmatic they are. As with any drug recommended by your doctor, try it. If you experience adverse reactions, stop it ASAP. It's that simple.

I have been using the nuvaring for a month now and everything seems to be fine despite a couple of symptoms.. the first thing being that i have been spotting everyday for the entire month.. i don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that it is still the first month or what? however, it is starting to become frustrating... the second thing that i have really noticed is how incredibly tired i am!!! i have never had trouble in the past with this sort of thing, but i am finding myself having to have naps in order to make it through the day...i was previously on evra but i had severe skin reactions to the adhesive so i decided to talk to my physician about switching my birth control. we both decided the nuvaring was a good option... i still like the idea of the once a month thing, but i am starting to wonder if it is worth being so tired all the time...

I started taking Femcon FE on the 4th of March because my fertility doctor had free samples of it and I only need it for one month before my first in vitro cycle. Today will be the 10th day that I took it and I had to call my doctor because I started getting horrible headaches on my 7th day taking it. It was so bad that I would start crying and my husband would just put his hand on my head to try to make it better. I have a high pain tolerance, so this is not normal for me. I also am exhausted ALL the time. I've had to take like 2-4 hour naps a DAY! Not cool. My doctor immediately told me to stop taking them as the headaches like that is not normal. I have to wait a couple days till I start my period again and then they will put me on just estrogen until I'm ready for the cycle. I know that all BC pills have side effects, but these are horrible and I've heard so many horror stories about it already that it kind of gives me major red flags about it. Just beware if you want to try it. I took Ortho Tri Cyclin 8 years ago when I needed the BC pill and I don't remember having ANY side effects at all.

I'm so glad I found this site. I was prescribed doxy for a rash I got in the Dominican that they thought lead to some sort of infection. The first couple days were fine but one night I took the medication before bed and was up all night with the worst chest pains. I have been nervous ever since that when ever I take the pills I'm going to get the same reaction. I have had chest pains the past couple days and I've been really careful with what I take them with and have been making sure I drink at least two bottles of water with each pill. But today I feel so weak. The last week on the medication I've been so tired I want to take naps when I get home from work which is unusual for me. Today my head feels heavy and my leg feels like it's about to twitch but it doesn't. I've felt some tingling in my left leg and my left arm. I thought this was from whatever infection I had since the rash was on my left ankle, but I think it's from the doxy instead. I've also been feeling a dull pain in my thigh every once in a while. I normally have some anxiety but a couple days after I started the doxy I put myself into a panic and spent the entire day at work researching tropical diseases on the internet because I thought I had one from the rash. I've also had some shortness of breath. I have asthma but it feels nothing like that. Also the doxy made my birth control stop working and I started my period. I thought I just had bad cramps but I'm starting to think they were more stomach aches from the doxy. I've had diarrhea also. And I feel so light headed that I'm going to pass out but I don't. I'm definitely calling my doctor today to get a different antibiotic. Thanks everyone for your posts!

My daughter is 17, had her 3rd Gardasil shot July 2008. She is not one to take naps and is now taking daily nap and going to bed 1 - 2 hours earlier than she ever has before. She came to me a week ago and told me that she just does not feel good and wanted to know why....could she go to the doctor. Of course I scheduled an appt...the dr questioned her of her symptoms and sent her for blood work check for mono, anemia, thyroid. Talked with the dr today and ALL of her blood work came back Great! dr tells me that all of her levels could not be better. So I ask could this be a side effect of the Gardasil vaccine? Of course he tells me that no there should not be any side effects this long after having had her last shot in July of 2008. So I ask what to do next....long pause....well it might be a virus that is trying to surface....I replied with one that has taken 6 weeks to surface? Again long pause...So I ask the dr what else could be done....he simple said he did not know...this is unacceptable to me! I had a very vital young lady living at my house now have a lifeless young lady with dark circles under her eye living at my house....and to think I thought I was being a good mom having her get the vaccine to prevent cancer not knowing that I was going to take the life out of her....I am just sick for the choice I made for my daughter! Please do not subject your beautiful daughters to this vaccine!

My fiance is 27 years old and she has Mirena for about 5 months now. She had her son about 10 years ago so I don't think any of her symptoms are postpartum related. The thing I noticed most after she's had Mirena done is that she's always tired and taking naps whenever possible. She's also had tons of acne issues since she's been on Mirena. The thing that I don't like the most about the side effects is that she claims shes always "out of it" and "zoned out". She even complains that she has anxiety attacks too, where she gets pain in her chest.

A friend of ours recommended her to use some estrogen control herbal pills and that's helped her acne and her mood a lot. But I mean, she shouldn't have to take any pills to "counteract" the side effects. I guess the thing I'm upset about is that THE DOCTOR NEVER WARNED HER ABOUT ANY OF THESE SIDE EFFECTS. I personally, don't trust doctors 100% and I'd be naive to think that all doctors are advising for just your benefit. There are doctors out there for sure that have financial / relationship gains with pharmaceuticals for prescribing certain brand drugs. I'd be very vary especially for the people who wrote here saying their doctor INSISTED they kept Mirena. Something not right there...

My 2 year old Grandson was put on Singular and Nasonex after having tubes placed in ears and adenoids removed. His nose continued to run all the time he would not nap and wake up all thru the night and I would have to plead with him to eat or drink anything, his behavior was out of control and he was irate at times , not the same little boy at all. I got online and did some research and I stopped the medications.. It has been over a week and he is his sweet little self again, and his nose is not running at all , he eats and naps and sleeps all night. I would not recommend this medication for anyone, especially a child. Concerned Grandma In Indy

I haven't actually started it yet but am seriously considering it. I been using normal pill BC and I have used the ortho evra patch before I got off BC to have a child. here is my story of why I want to try and for those who are still considering it.

First off, I usually get sick every month with the pill when I start a new pack, not all BC pill did it as I am on Loestrin now and on Yaz before that and they didn't make me sick, but they are lower doses. However, I loved ortho evra, it was great except for the sticky ring where lint get stuck on you from around the edges, but that was just a small negative for me. However, I got off it before all the controversy about how it has three times theh rate of blood clots forming than BC pills, so I am a little worried about going back on it and my docs don't really prescribe it either, and suggested the nuvaring.

Well I went on Yaz post birth and couldn't understand why I was so tired all the time, every one kept saying it is because you have a new baby but i don't believe it was that because my child is a really easy child who sleeps through the night and took her naps. i just wanted to sleep all the time and still feel this way even after switching to loestrin which is similar to Yaz. I wasn't tired like this on Ortho evra and my doc told me that the ring is similar in like the patch.

so I am sorry for all those of you who have had bad experiences and the only thing I think I can do is try it for myself cause, when something bad or negative happens everyone hears about it but that is not the case when something is good. Everyone's body is different and reacts differently to medication. So I am going to go ahead and try I think to see how it affects me cause I don't think I can get any worse and I am not ready to have another child yet. I am currently on an antidepressant for about 5 weeks now and still am having my constant tired wanting to sleep feeling, this is why I think it is the BC. Hopefully i won't have too many side effects but I am willing to give it a try as I do know women who have used it and said that they liked it.

I have been on Lamictal for about 3 and a half yrs now for Bipolar 1. Overall, I have had a really great experience with the drug. I started with 100mg and then went to 200mg after a year and a half. Now I take 225mg as of a month ago. For about a year and a half I had the acne on my chin and then it went away suddenly (thought it was cutting out dairy from my diet though). I have been extremely fatigued for awhile now. 7hrs of sleep is not good enough for me so I end up taking long naps when I have the opportunity each day- I always want to sleep. I feel stupid and lack focus and motivation. I use to be a social butterfly and now I feel so exhausted when entertaining. I am a personal trainer and am in the business of making others feel better, but I seem to be feeling worse. I have experienced weight gain as well and that is hard for me since I use to be bulimic and have always had poor body image issues. I was on the NuvaRing for 5 months and it made me sooooo depressed so I finally got off that and feel better- don't mix those 2 drugs.
I am going to ask my doctor to take me off of it this week because I am ready to trust God with my mental health. I have a great support system to help me through the tough times and if I want to get pregnant, I have to go off it anyway.

Wow! I can't believe how many of us suffers from the pill from hell, Yasmin. I stopped taking it September 17 after 5 years and I'm worried as hell as to what's going to happen to my body now. But first things first. I seem to have gotten pretty much every side effect in the book.

About a month after starting it I got gastroparesis- paralyzed stomach- and I also became lactose-intolerant after 30 years of drinking a lot of milk. Go figure! I get a huge bloated belly as soon as I drink a little water even now. I have gained about 6 lbs that I can't shake no matter how much I work out and that has never been a problem before.

I had migraines from hell and headaches nearly every day the last few years.

I got panic attacks and was very nervous, had anxiety and it felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. And that is SO NOT me or anybody in my family. And I know it was the pill cuz I had no reason to feel that way.

I had blurry vision at times. Fainted once in the mall for no apparent reason, I had never fainted before in my life.

I had no interest in my own life or in doing anything whether that was working, going to school, exercising, going out with friends, traveling, whatever it was I was not interested. Again, so not me. I could have died and I wouldn't have cared. I could have gotten a Ferrari and I wouldn't have cared.

I could sleep 10 hours a night, take 1-2 hour naps in the afternoon and go to sleep again at 10 pm, no problem. And the nightmares! Holy crap. Awful dreams about plane crashes, robberies and murderers EVERY night. Thankfully they seem to have disappeared now.

I have high cholesterol, through the roof actually! -no family history there either- and blood pressure is a little high but not too bad. My thyroid was a little elevated last time and the doctor thought it was due to Yasmin.

I snap at everybody and think that I don't love my husband when I actually do love him a lot. He has put up with me being so unbelievably bitchy for 5 year. Bless his soul!

Since I started Yasmin we have had sex about 1-3 times a year. I'm NOT kidding. I haven't wanted anything to do with sex.

I have heart palpitations at times. Shortness of breath just walking up the stairs in my house.

Dry skin no matter what cream I use. Major hair loss.

I went off Yasmin once before and didn't get my period back for over 6 months so I just started taking it again like an idiot cuz I wasn't planning to have kids then anyway.

I was never happy, never sad. Mostly mad or irritated, no problems there.

What else? How many hours do you girls have to read my post? ;-)

To sum it up. Yasmin has destroyed my life for the past 5 years but I was to blind and scared to get pregnant before that I just didn't care. And not caring about my own health was surely caused by that rotten pill too.

What can I expect now that I'm off the pill since 2 weeks? How long before the hormones are gone from my body? What can I expect and when does it get better? Can I go to the ob/gyn after 2-3 months if I don't get my period and have them give me something to start it? Or would that be bad? What about the weight, should it go up or down? Acne? Hair loss? What else? Have you had any medical problems that you needed medicines for due to Yasmin? How long has it taken you to get your period back? And most importantly; can this pill make me infertile???

If there is a class action lawsuit I want to be in it!

My 12 year old son has been on 60 mg of Prednisone for two weeks now. His side effects have not been bad at all up to this point. He's gained about 6 pounds. His brain is unusually active right after taking the drug, and this effects lasts a few hours. He's always been a wildly creative kid but prednisone seems to intensify is creativity and the productivity of his brain. He has Tourette Syndrome and his tics waned overnight after beginning the meds so that is a big bonus if prednisone is responsible for that. He has always been an insomniac since he was a baby but prednisone makes him sleepy, so sleepy he takes naps during the day and goes to bed early, sleeping soundly all night, so soundly he had an accident and wet his bed last night. His head sweats when he sleeps. He has infrequent periods of mild irritability. His appetite has increased but not unnaturally so. Seems like he finally has a sustained healthy appetite. He goes to 45 mg for two weeks tomorrow so I'm interested to see what new side effects this brings on. No stomach problems despite taking this along with very high doses of antibiotic. Maybe the prevacid he takes with Lactobacillus is helping with that and the fact that he takes his meds with small meals or lots of fluid.

I love Wellbutrin! I've tried many other anti-depressants: zoloft, effexor, cymbalta, generic wellbutrin (budeprion, NOT the same! don't let your insurance make you get the generic for this one!), and celexa. This is by far the best. I gained 35 lbs when I went on cymbalta (in just 4 months!) and within 3 months of starting wellbutrin, I've lost 25 of it. Most importantly, I'm hardly ever depressed now (and when I am, there's a reason for it, unlike before). I also have so much more energy! Unmediated and on the other anti-depressants I was sleeping over 10 hours a day between naps and regular night-time sleeping and I was still tired all the time. Now I can feel perfectly rested on the normal 7-8 hours a night, without needing naps as often. I also don't get headaches on the name-brand Wellbutrin like I did when I was on budeprion.

It has been a little over 2 months now since I had the Mirena removed. I am doing a lot better. My dizzy bouts are few and far between now. I have been dizzy today and yesterday but I hadn't been dizzy for weeks before yesterday. The dizziness isn't severe anymore either. I still have fatigue but not nearly what I had when I had the Mirena. I think the fatigue I have now is the kind that the doctors kept saying I had from being a mother of toddlers. Much different fatigue than before. It was so annoying to have them tell me it was from the toddlers because I knew my kids weren't taxing me so much that I couldn't get off the couch. Well the fatigue now is different, I don't have to take two naps a day anymore and I can keep up with normal duties. I hope everyone on here that is struggling gets better soon. Mirena is terrible!!!

I had my Mirena put in April 2007 and I can honestly say I cannot see how this device was ever approved by the medical community. I suffered so many of the side effects you women speak of, and primarily the excessive fatigue. I have been high energy my whole life and needing one or two naps a day because I was falling asleep in my own home walking around was ridiculous. I had weight gain I couldn't explain, despite working out and eating healthy. My skin was dry to the point it was flaking off of my hands in some places. I've never had acne, and didn't know how to deal with that everywhere! I already have palpitations so the extra palpitations caused by the Mirena freaked me out. My face swelled, my ankles swelled, I was dizzy, and I couldn't think straight at all. I also suffered a numbness in my toes at one point, I attributed it to an athletic injury but now I realize it was probably related as well. The past year I had Mirena I had numerous colds and flu's, and usually I'm a fairly healthy person!!!

I had the Mirena removed 6 days ago and I cannot tell you how much better I feel. My thoughts are totally lucid and I feel a fog has been lifted from my brain. Within days the acne went away, and I could tell the "bloating" was subsiding from my belly area. I did start my cycle two days post removal, which I see is common. I am no longer fatigued or tired and have been really back to my normal self already. I'm already running on my treadmill again, which is something I've been unable to do in over a year because of the fatigue. So there you go..... if you are having problems from head to toe like I was, just get it removed. It's not for you. And by the way, the problems with it didn't start for maybe 3 months after I had it in... so keep your eyes open and be aware and tuned in to your body, ladies.
