During a cold in late March 2009, I contacted a Doctor regarding my chest cough, running nose and wheezing when I slept at night. She prescribed Nasacort AQ one spray for each nasal passage in the evening; 10mg of Loratadine each day; and one tablet of singulair at bedtime for one week.
Because of my cold I could barely taste and smell. After taking these medications for one week, my cough stopped, my nose stopped dripping and my wheezing disappeared. However, I lost all taste and smell.
I returned to the doctor the following week and described my improved condition but that I no longer had any taste and smell. aaaaaaaaShe instructed me to continue administering the Nasacort and Loratadine for another week and then see my family doctor when I returned home. She also checked my ears and cleaned them out and took five (5) xrays of my sinuses and found no polps, blockages, etc.
Since April 1st I have not been able to taste or smell and this situation is now becoming aggravating since today is July 17th.
How can this situation be remedied ? HELP

Hi everyone
My little boy who is nearly two was put on Singulair as a preventative.
I did check on forums when we started using Singulair and I was concerned that there has been descriptions of negative affects. Always trying to be objective I rationalised that the people in this forum are a small part of the greater Singulair population and as a result there was a low risk of negative affects on my little boy.
I have to say I think I was wrong. As soon as he was using Singulair, he had restless nights of sleep. Every night he would cry off and on until 2am and I guess he was so tired he slept. During the day he was very short tempered and became upset very easily. We put this down to tiredness. After 10 days of the lack of sleep for parents and little one, we told our doctor.
He advised to take him off Singulair for 5 days and make observations and then put him back on. Last night, his first night off Singulair was bliss. Not a sound. He had a great sleep. As I type he is now having another great sleep.
Let us see what happens after 3 more days and after putting him back on Singulair.
It would seem that if we are correct and that Singulair is a cause of an issue for my child, am I a quasi beta testing laboratory for a drug?
We are from Australia.
Thank you for reading.

Dosage: 0.4mg / Day for 5 days.
Age: 26
Occupation: Chemist
Physical:
Feels like something is pulling down on my lungs inside of my chest. Sinus blockage. It feels actually like Viagra where there is swelling in the sinus cavity but not due to mucus. Result is a slightly blocked airway in nasal passage. NO EJACULATE, able to orgasm, but nothing comes out. (A good male birth control pill?) Sporadic, short headaches (~2-4 / Day). Shallow breathing, shortness of breath after going up stairs. Feeling weak all day long. Most of these probably due to lower blood pressure.
Mental:
Wanting to sleep more. A small lack of motivation to socialize, but not major. Annoyed / Angered more easily and often. (could be due to NO EJACULATE!!) A little humor there. No, seriously, I am really easy to agitate now. I wouldn't say lower sex drive, but more controlled sex drive. I felt horny most of the time before Flomax, but now only when engaged in sexual activity. (kind of nice actually) Haven't noticed anything about dream alterations.
Side Note:
The ejaculation part scares me a little bit just as others have expressed. As long as it comes back when I am off that is fine. Flomax DOES NOT shrink the prostate, it relaxes the prostate. I can see why this may cause a lack of ejaculate since the prostate in a way, a sperm valve. I feel like this should really be listed in the side effects but I know that masturbation is not part of clinical trials. Interesting though...could it be used as a male birth control pill? The first few days, a small small volume of ejaculate came out. Now, at day 5, dry as a bone.

I have been on wellbutrin for 3 weeks (to quit smoking) broke out with horrible hives went to ER he said it was NOT from wellbutrin. I need to follow up with Doctor but I am afraid they will take me off wellbutrin. Hives are mostly gone. Continue to have some itching. I like the way I have been feeling and starting to smoke less and less.

Coincidence....I think not. A 15 day dose of Levaquin was prescribed for a recurrent sinus infection despite the documented effectiveness of Augmentin in past occurences. Within the first eight days there was no change in my inability to breath through my nasal passage. In addition to the Levaquin I took Benadryl Maximum Strength Allergy and Sinus in order to breathe with less difficulty. During the fifteen day treatment, I experienced, insomina and short term memory lapses, stiffness in both knees, diarrhea, extreme gas pains, and constipation. I actually think my rectal muscles were affected. After two days of incessant diarrheal woes, my body constantly felt as though excretion was necessary. Mucuous began to fill my tear ducts and affected my vision. My primary physician of ten years directed me to visit the emergency room....wow, now there's a thought....go to primary...go to emergency room....follow up with primary...Needless to say, my HMO may have saved me over $200, but it actually cost me four days away from the office and a weekend in bed.

I have been on and off of pred for about 15 years in fairly low dosses, for allergies and nasal poloyps. Some of the side effects were swelling, soreness, warts on the hands, mood swings, night sweats, itching, flushing, when I was on higher doses severe night mares!! every night. A couple of years ago I had a bi cranionomy surgery for a sinius mucecell in the frontal sinus. Two polyp's had grown togather in the top of my nasal passage and the sinus couldn't drain. Any way they cut me from ear to ear across the top of my head and peeled the skin down and took a about a 3" by 3" section of skull out to remove the mucecell.
Since then I have had another polyp removal surgery thru the nose, that will make 4 all togather. PREDNISONE is the only thing that seems to work, I don't have to take high dossages, I take like 10 mg every 3 days maybe, but I still get side effects. Brusing, mood swings, itching, One wierd thing is the thinning of the skin that shows my scaring from the bi craninomy really bad. You can actually see the outlining of the brackets and screws where they put my skull back togather.
I need another surgery where the doctor has told me that the bony tissue that seperates the brain from the sinius' behind the eyes may be gone from the polyps eating away over a period of time, and they may have to open my head again, It really scared me so I didn't follow back up with the doctor and got some more prednisone from a primary care visit that I claimed that I have a sinius infection. It will carry me for a couple of months. It has been 8 months since I seen that doc that wants to open my head again (same doctor)this is a specialist from Duke Hospital in North Carolina. I'm doing ok with only 10mg every 2 to 3 days. Problem is tring to keep getting prednisone from doctor to doctor.

My doctor prescribed Allegra to me because of a sore throat due to possible allergies and nasal passage swelling. I don't feel sick, just a bad sore throat. (strep test was negative) Anyways, i have had it for about 4 days, and finally took the medicine last night. My doctor warned me to take it during the day because it might make me a little hyper. So I took my first pill last night around 6 pm. Around 8 I noticed my face was a little warm, but other than that, I felt great. I was so hyper and anxious, that I was able to clean my entire house. (anyone seen 'Something about Mary' and the vaccum cleaner scene?) I finally laid down around 1 am only to be woken up with nausa that lasted for another hour. During all of this, i have had the worst case of dry mouth. It feels like someone has cotton in my mouth and blocking me from swallowing.
I am at work now, and I can't stop sneezing! My eyes are watering and my nose is running! I feel like I have a real bad sinus cold. All kind of ironic if you ask me! I thought this allergy medicine was supposed to help make you feel better.... (my throat still hurts by the way).... hmmmmmmm.

I'm a 46 year old, Caucasian female, average weight. I was on Lisinopril 10mg once a day for 3 months. I'm in relatively good health (except for a slight increase in B/P).
During that time I experienced:
gagging cough (especially at night)
depression
anxiety (mild)
no menstrual cycle (it came back 4 days after stopping the drug)
dry nasal passage (including polyps)--this seems to be clearing up with Fluticasone.
feeling of an irregular heartbeat
I did go to my doctor and he said that the side effects are common; however, he said that this medication shouldn't effect my menstrual cycle... well, it did. He did put me on another B/P medication and told me to stop the Lisinopril.
I'm posting this because it's been hard to find anything out about a lack of cycle for women who were taking this drug. I wanted to share my experience to let you know that you're not alone. Always follow your instinct with medications you're taking. You know your body best!
