Today I had my Mirena placed in. I had decided with this contraceptive since I am terrible on taking pills on a daily basis. So I went in today and had my OB do the insertion. Talk about PAINFUL! It did not feel good at all going in, and imminently I felt nauseous. The Dr. asked for me to stay in the room for 5 min, and then I can go on my way. As I went to leave the office I felt the nausea come back and I literally almost fainted! I had to go back in the room and relax for another 5-10 min. I'm now home and I have started bleeding/spotting if you say. I have a terrible headache and 3 IB-profins have not helped. If these symptoms continue up to my next visit in 6 weeks, I think I may have this Mirena removed. I feel horrible/uncomfortable already.

I had the Mirena put in last August after having twins in March. Have had no complaints until recently. Now all of a sudden I notice that I am nausea frequently and keep having fluttering in my belly that makes me paranoid like maybe I am pregnant. I don't really feel pregnant but then again I keep feeling this weird movement that makes me think I could be. I have not had the acne everyone is describing except maybe these little bumps I keep getting on my arms that were never there before. Only have had the nausea and recently the fluttering in the belly. As far as the weight gain, I do feel like maybe I have gained some weight. The biggest thing I can't seem to get rid of is my belly still looks a little pregnant. I noticed a few others have had the same problem, but I have been equating all of this to having twins. I don't have anything else to compare these things to, since I only have my twins and have never been pregnant before. After reading this I think that maybe it is the Mirena and not be just being paranoid about being pregnant! Does anyone else keep feeling that too?

My side effects (Charles Clark)
3:00pm

It started with diarrhea after a couple days treatment. Then my hand muscles starting to contract on there own. Then I started having high blood pressure up to 212/118 and high heart rate and anxiety beginning to set in. My wife wanted to take me to the hospital but I refused to go (I wish I had. They might have taken me off Doxy then, but no, I was still taking it). I then started having problems breathing (like something was stopping me. Not like hyperventilating). My wife called the doctor and she said to stop the Doxy and come in. At the visit, she gave me meds for high blood pressure and ordered a heart monitor and stress test as she believed my problem was more likely with my heart. I didn't start the blood pressure medications as I needed to have the tests done in a week and a half. I had a panic attack before the stress test. There was a patient there who stated her granddaughter had developed panic attacks after she had taken Doxy for Lymes disease. What a coincidence. That weekend my blood pressure and anxiety increased and my wife called the doctor. They convinced me to start the blood pressure medicine as all of this might be caused by High Blood Pressure. I returned to the doctor 4 days later and she took more blood work as well as tested for Lymes disease again. Everything was normal and NO lymes disease. So what was causing all of these problems. That night when I came home from the Doctors I started feeling like someone just sprayed me like you spray a wasp/bee. I started to shake and twitch inside like I was dying I could feel my stomach convulsing and getting cold. Now at this point I had been off Doxycycline for a few days. My wife called the doctors emergency line and they called in a prescription for Xanex. I took it and it put be out. I woke up the next day feeling like I was on a bad rollercoaster ride going over the edge and trying to climbing out of my skin. I was unable to even take care of myself at this point. I started getting muscle twitches all over my body. I could not control my thoughts and had a hard time talking; my skin was so hypersensitive to the touch or movement. The only way I could deal with it was just lay down and not move. I felt like was going to die. More symptoms came: my middle finger on my left hand went numb; I was so nauseated I had a hard time eating; depression set in with sever panic attacks/anxiety, ears ringing, slight pain in my chest like I was having a heart attack and was becoming bed ridden and afraid of everything at this point. That next week I returned to the doctor and she noted how it seemed a struggle for me to walk into the office. She felt that I should begin meds to decrease the anxiety that was paralyzing me. She suggested seeing a psychiatrist and stated that if I got worse my wife should take me to the emergency and be admitted to the mental health program. So I began to take Paxil as well (I hate medications, but I was desperate). I was terrified that I might have side affects from these meds and I couldn't be alone and I was afraid to go anywhere, afraid I would have an attack or worse, stop breathing all together. I was terrified and my family was getting very worried about me and unsure what to do. Thanks to my best friend, my wife, and my family for taking care of me. If it were not for them, I would not know what to do. My dear mom even came in from Virginia to help take care of me. I can not express my thanks enough to my family! I have been off the drug now for almost seven weeks now and all my side effects are slowly, very slowly, dissipating. How come the Doctors don't know about this? Thank GOD for this site and the ones that took the time to post there experience with this drug! THANKS EVERYONE GOD BLESS YOU!

P.S. please reply on what you did to get rid of the side effects, how long did it take for them to go away and did your Doctor believe that the Doxycycline caused them. because I can't find a Doctor that thinks the Doxycycline can have these side effects.

i had the first shot in December 2006 and the next day i woke up with a headache, fever but not a high one, nausea, vomiting and cough body aches. we called the doctor to ask if it was related to gardasil, and she said it wasn't the vaccine but it was that i was getting sick already. but since that time I've been having nausea and vomiting and i've been missing a lot of school because of the vomiting. I've been seen by a doctor who specializes in the stomach and he thought i had acid reflex. and i got 3 different medication and it didn't help. i also had a ultra sound and endoscope biopsy. and the doctor said theirs nothing wrong. I still continue with nausea everyday and sometimes it gets worse and i start vomiting.

I just started taking Yasmin again in March. I had taken it back in November but stopped midway through my second pack because I was experiencing severe anxiety, nausea, fatigue... to the point my social life and grades in school were suffering. I went online and found this site and read how there were a lot of women who experienced bad side effects from this pill too. Recently I decided that it was in my best interest to take birth control again and because I did have added stress in my life during the time I took Yasmin before I thought maybe I would be okay this time. I WAS SOOO WRONG. I haven't even been on Yasmin again for a month and my life as I knew it has been turned upside down. In less than a week of starting it I started to have severe chest pains and nausea. I thought I was having a heart attack. I have had panic attacks before and this was nothing like that The tightness and pressure in my chest never has gone away. I've been to three different doctors and have had many tests to figure out whats wrong. They all tell me the same thing that I'm a healthy 22 year old and that if anything I just have inflammation my ribcage. My grades are suffering again because I have missed a lot of class because I feel so awful. Every morning I wake up with the chest pain (that gets worse the more active I am) and nausea. Since all these symptoms have come on my relationship has taken a turn for the worse too. All I want to do is sleep, I don't feel like going out, I get annoyed very easily by everything my boyfriend does so I don't want to be around him. I feel so "out of it" sometimes I get dizzy and feel numb all over. Its so scary (esp. the chest pains) The worse thing is that no one really believes me (i.e. my boyfriend) I never feel good and I'm sure the people around me are tired of me complaining all the time. One more thing... I started my period very early (I still have a week and a half of active pills left) I've never experienced that before... weird. Anyways, I stopped taking Yasmin 2 days ago. I still have all the same symptoms... I really hope they go away soon. I want to get back to my old self and my old life. YASMIN SUCKS!!! I'd rather take the risk of getting pregnant than take Yasmin. At least then I'd have a excuse that ppl would believe for being sick :(

I have been on this pill for almost a year. Almost all of the side effects that I have read today I totally agree with. I have gained approximately 15 pounds with no diet change which is probably the number one thing that makes me want to quit. I've had a few headaches and some nausea mostly at the beginning of first taking the pill but I have had no sex drive since I have been on the pill although I haven't experienced very many mood swings, I do feel anxious and angry a lot and feel like I never get any sleep. I am always tired. I am currently still on the pill but only have 2 more weeks to go and I will be quitting. I want to see how much better I will feel after being off of it...will keep everyone posted.

I'm 16 and was put on this for very painful cramps. I've only been on it two weeks. I was told to take it in the evening. The first several days I was nauseous 24 hours a day, but never actually threw up. I don't usually eat in the evening, so I was taking it on an empty stomach, which I now realize was causing the nausea. So now I make sure to eat something with the pill, and I haven't had the nausea. Of course, that could also be because my body has just gotten more used to it. I've had mild to moderate acne since I was 10, and already my skin is clearer than its been in 6 years. I've taken very good care of my skin for years and haven't changed anything so I think it must be the BC. I can't say much else about it since I've been on it such a short time, but so far so good.

I have experienced a few days of nausea, however since this particular type of birth control has fewer severe side effects because of its low dose of estrogen I am confident that overall it is the best choice. I have also been battling a little bit of minor depression, have had mild breast tenderness, and a few more minor headaches than usual. I would also say that I have had a decreased appetite and have lost a moderate amount of weight.

Oh my god!!! I just read through all the posts looking for someone else with this issue! After using the NR for a few months, i developed this horrible back pain that kept me awake at night tossing and turning trying to get comfortable. I also had a tightness in my chest and although i did not develop a rash, i felt itchiness all over my body. I started having flu like symptoms and wondered if I developed adult onset allergies since I never had them before. I even went back to my GYN and told him and he made me feel like I was crazy...I had stopped the NR for a month and then restarted and the back pain returned...So, i stopped again...strangely enough though, the pain remained for another month...I did also develop a severe migraine headache a few days before I had to remove the ring each month. I tried switching to an oral contraceptive but the naseau always stops me from taking it. Reluctantly, I went back to the NR this month. So far, I have naseau daily which comes in waves, bloating, increased discharge, fatigue...I feel pregnant...just figure my body just needs to get used to it again. Not ready for another baby so don't feel i have much choice right now. Any suggestions?

I've been on the NR for 4 months and was really happy with it.... A little discharge and I knew it was from the ring because I don't ever have discharge but it was not bad at all. This past month I started having the most horrible LOWER BACK PAIN. I started mattress shopping and ALMOST bought a $4000.000 mattress to fix the problem.. Then it came time to remove the NR and within 1 minute (or less) of removing my back pain completely went away and I'm again sleeping like a baby, when before I was up most the night with lower back pain. I haven't seen lower back pain as a side effect so I just wanted to post to see if anyone might have the same problem. Not sure if it was just in the wrong spot and I should try again this next month or not..

It was nice to find this website, finally figuring out a reason why I get my yeast infections, headaches, naseau, pain on my left breast bone, fatigue, mood swings, etc... I always thought it was just me, but I'm now thinking that maybe it's not. I've had recurrent yeast infections ever since being on Yasmin (I've been on it for over 4 years) and my MD has never mentioned it could be the pill. I finally started seeing a connection between the two when I started tracking what happens to me when I miss taking the pill (ALWAYS a yeast infection). And it got me to thinking that maybe there are other women out there who suffer from the same thing. Also, at some points I actually thought I had serious mental/health problems b/c of my consistent headaches, fatigue, and mood swings. I used to be really active up until I was 19 when I started on Yasmin, and it went downhill from there. I guess I just thought that this was just my normal grown up self (I know sounds kinda lame). And I've totally experienced the lack of sex drive, it seems I'm only interested the week before I get my period or when I'm on it.

I wish I had bothered to find this site before taking this medication. My doctor prescribed Sulfameth, 1 pill 2x a day for 7 days for a skin infection and wheezing in my chest following a bad head cold. I quit taking this medication after 3.5 days for many of the reasons already described by others herein.

The first day I noticed my heart was "racey" and I had a headache. My symptoms have been getting progressively worse. I feel compelled to eat every few hours (possibly a reaction to feeling lethargic) but food just doesn't taste right. I seemed to crave sweet and salty snacks, which has caused me to retain water. To add to my frustration, I noticed that I seemed to be feeling worse and getting sicker instead of better. My head has been very stuffy and I thought I might be coming down with strep or the flu after feeling like I had an ulcer in the back of my throat. My mouth has been very dry and I am finding it uncomfortable to swallow. My tongue and the top of my mouth is very sensitive and feels raw. Also, my chest wheezing has gotten no better. I have felt very tired and i have no energy to do my normal walks in the morning let alone a full work out. In fact, walking across the room is quite taxing right now. I can't sleep but am exhausted. I was absolutely out of it today, and considered going to the urgent care facility to see what is going on. That's when I discovered that many people have reported similar experiences. Thankfully, I never got a rash or the high fever. This seems like a terrible medication and I will not be completing my course.

Hi,

You name it, I had it. Fatigue, Headaches, Racing heart, palpitations, chest pain, naseau, sleeplessness, melasma. This is the second time this has happened to me. The first time was in 2003 on Ovcon. My gyn then put me on Aviane, a generic brand with lower hormone levels. A year later I went to and endocronolic specialist, who decided to put me on Yasmine, not sure why, but like so many people, I did as I was told (blind trust). I just this month reached the climax of my symptoms and decided to see a doctor. Just as someone else posted, the first thing they said was ANXIETY. They said I have been on Yasmine to long to just now start feeling side effects. I gave a rundown of everything I was feeling and they sent me for blood work.

Results are I am enemic. I have an iron deficiency. This I knew from my younger years. What I am curious about, is whether or not Yasmine has an effect on the level of iron in your blood. Can it worsen your enemia?

I have been taking Biaxin for seven days. Thank goodness this is my last dose. I've had all the regular symptoms (naseau, upset stomach, diarrhea, metallic taste in mouth morning, noon and night), but I also have noticed a severe break out with acne, night sweats and tiredness. I feel like I can hardly keep my eyes open. I forgot one dose and felt almost like myself again, guess that's what triggered me to finally take the medicine. I will not take this medicine again. I'd rather get a yeast infection from some of the other antibiotics than feel like a walking zombie again. This is some strange stuff. I even quit taking my zoloft while taking this antibiotic thinking it was the interaction of the two drugs, but it didn't help.

I'm 24 year old female, and I've been using Advair for about 3 weeks now, and have used it for a month at a time previously in the past. I remember that it always seems to help at first, give me more energy, and making my running better (I was a competitive runner in college and developed asthma as an adult), but after about a two week period, the medication actually seems to stop helping, and instead I start getting chest tightness, severe acid reflux, naseau, headaches and muscle fatigue. I've also had incredible sleeplessness, excitability and restlessness, and rather significant weight loss, which at first I attributed to running more (and I'm sure its a combination), but I think the restlessness is to blame for a lot of it.

Additionally, despite rinsing, my voice is hoarse, my mouth always tastes bad, and I have to swallow or drink liquids all the time. My ezxema has gotten much worse, and I've developed acne on the sides of my face, which hasn't happened in years.

I thought maybe I was losing my mind, but this site has made my fears seem quite reasonable.

I started taking 25 mg of Topamax in March 2006, slight reduction in migranes. July 1 neurologist increased meds to decrease migranes weekly to max of 100 mg, 2 weeks later and until this day, my problems have been horrendous. It has taken me 6 weeks to realize that they are due to the topamax. Extreme pain in lower left side, bladder infection like symptoms without an infection; walking around in a stupor; feel flu like, unable to think clearly; naseau; can not get out of bed; missed a week of work because I felt so unwell. I am slowly going off the topamax, although the urologist states "there is no correlation between your pain and the meds"; and it took two calls to the neurologist before anyone would listen to my plight. How long will it take to get this poison out of my system. I would rather have migranes every day than feel like I have been changed into an entirely different person emotionally and so unwell physically that nothing else matters. I was working two high pressure jobs, ready to complete another degree, and functioning a completely normal pleasant life with my family and friends. Topamax has taken care of diminishing all of this for me. My credibility in a position where I must think clearly and responsibility in my family where I am depended upon for much are sorely effected by this horrid medication. I believe it is very interesting that the side effects for migrane patients vs. those who take it for epilepsy and seizure are as different as night and day -- but it's the same medication. Kind of like me pre and post Topamax medication!!!!!

I just started taking singulair 2 weeks ago for my asthma.. i am 15. starting around a week after i started the medication.. it was the day after easter. I got up in the morning and had a very scary dizzy sensation, where i couldnt stand up straight.. and everything turned black.. and it was as if my hearing had faded. this happened again a few days after that. now it happened yesterday. and 5 times already today.. the doctor says i should go to the ER. but my mom thinks i should just try to not take it to see what happens. i get very dizzy when i get up from sitting or laying down...faded hearing. sensitivity to light, instant headache, naseau, sweaty, tired, and the 5th time it happened today i saw a flash of white light(kind of like a halo effect(type of migrane)) and then the blackness started. i dont know if im having petit mal seizures, lethargy, convulsions, or simple partial seizures, but i think its getting worse what ever is going on from this medicine.

After starting the second pack of Ovcon, I began to feel like I was coming down with the flu, headache, naseau, insomnia. But then the swelling of my ankles and hands made me realize it was the ovcon. It hurt to walk and move my hands, and still does. I am hoping the swelling goes away soon as I have stopped taking it!

severe weakness, unable to read bloodpressure it is so low, blacking out, unable to lift any weight at all, heart pounding, itching, unable to lay still, involuntary twitching during the night requiring tranquilizer doses during the night, eventually during the day as well while tapering off the meds. Memory loss, loss of balance, falling down, diziness, eye pain and burning, unable to eat, severe naseau if faced with food, have lost almost 10 pounds in 3 weeks. Unfortunately it actually made my migraines go away, but I cannot live like this. Horrible side effects.

My 13 yr old daughter has been on singulair since she was 8. 5mg dose. She is moody but I thought it was just pre teen girl stuff..she has complained of leg cramps..but she dances ballet and hip hop so I thoght she had muscle tension..she has abdominal cramping often and missing about 1 day of school per month due to feelings of naseau/headache..I just started telling her to take singulair every 2nd night..to see if it still keeps her astma at bay. She only uses her ventolin when running heavily in gym or is she has a very bad cold. It has been very interesting to read about al these side effects..I may request a different treatment, even though this one has successful kept her asthma under control.
