I haven't finished taking the medicine yet because I'm only on day 4, but I must say that it's clearing up the staph in my right armpit. My left armpit is still swollen and hurts like hell. My mother is an RN, and she's been trying to drain the pus and blood from the wound. It hurts so bad that I'm ready to just drive up to the local ER and have them lance it. How long does it usually take for Bactrim to clear up the infection? I'm taking 2 pills once a day for 10 days.
And another thing, I think why people are having nasty side effects to the medicine is because it's not mixing well with their body chemistry. My sister took Bactrim last year for MRSA, and she cleared up beautifully without any horrible side effects.
Thanks guys!

I have posted a couple of times previously about negative side effects, i.e. migraines, weight gain, acne, chin hair, eczema, lower back pain, no sex drive...and the list could go on. As a mature 36 year old woman I have educated myself over the past couple of years and can really only attribute all these issues to having the Mirena inserted 4 months after the birth of my daughter 3 years ago. Although at this time my doctors will not openly acknowledge these side effects, I am confident that one day they will. I encourage women to report adverse side effects to the FDA. It onlt takes a minute or two. Who knows, it may be the hormones or it may be the silicone plastic? It has to be something. It should also be acknowledged that some women, my very best friend for one, have had wonderful experiences with the Mirena. I really think it may just depend on the woman and her own body. I am having mine removed tomorrow after researching all of this for about 8 months. All I can say is, thank goodness. I am also scheduled for the Essure(permanent birth control). Food for thought for the older women in the group. Whatever each of you decide, realize you are not alone and you do not have to continue to feel the way you do if you believe that the Mirena could be making you feel so bad. Take care.

Hi, I am a 47 year old female. Last month (June 2009) I went to the doctor because I had a bad migraine that wouldn't go away. After a week of suffering I went to my Doctor and my BP was high, so she put me on Benicar. I took it for 3 days and then I refused to take it anymore. After taking it I couldn't hardly get off the couch, and I was dizzy, and had a tightness in my chest with chest pains. The doctor changed my prescription to lisinopril and the chest pains got worse along with that deadly cough. I went back to my doctor and told her that I wasn't going to take lisinopril any more because of the chest pains and the caugh. She said that she didn't think it was the medicine and she gave me an EKG and I failed it. I went 2 days later and had a nuclear stress test and failed it too, then I had a heart cath and the cardiologist said that my heart was perfect, it wasn't my heart. Needless to say it was the meds that the doctor had put me on, those nasty side effects. Now I just moniter my BP and I'm to scared to take anything because of the side effects. I wished I could make the doctor pay for all the test I had to take. She should have just listened to me when I told her it was the meds. After failing 2 test, I thought that I may be really having a heart attach, Very scary. Just listen to what we are saying " DON'T TAKE LISINOPRIL" Oh yea after heart cath I called my doctor and told her that I was not taking Lisinopril any more because that was what was causing my problems not my heart and she said just to let all meds get out of my system and come back in a week and we would try something else. yea right. She's not getting any more of my money. I've come to realize that every thing has side effects, so before I take anything else I will look it up first. Be careful what you take!

WOW! I just got my Mirena out about 2 hours ago and you would not BELIEVE the difference I feel already. I already feel more like myself again and while I still have slight cramps I know they will be gone soon! I will NEVER use Mirena again...too many nasty side effects that aren't worth it. It sucks that I am out that money, but I am so glad to be rid of it...GOODBYE FOREVER MIRENA!!!! :o)

I was on Nuvaring twice since the birth of my daughter. First time was for about a year and I was really happy with it in general. I still had a bit of acne but nothing major so I sticked with it.
I then had 6 months with no bc at all and I went back on nuvaring. What a surprise when I had all these nasty side effects!
Extreme fatigue (which I still have on my pil now, so it might just be the bc in general), nightmares, sadness and mood swings, bloating, no sex drive at all, body aches and a lot of PAINFUL cystic acne!! It was much worse than with no bc!! I decided to stick to it for 3 months to see if there would be any enhancement but it went worse and worse!
I stopped it and had another month with no bc where I felt so much better. Now I'm on loestrin24fe and after the first month which was bad it is now almost heaven...

No question, Cymbalta caused me to have psoriasis of my nails and on my feet. My nails started looking funny and ridged a few weeks after taking the Cymbalta, and I could not get the callouses off my feet to save my life, and they were so itchy and flaky. I took it for about 6 months and the psoriasis got worse and worse, I had a few spots in other places on my body but they were small. I switched off the Cymbalta and immediately my nails started growing back normally and the callouses and dry spots on my feet and elbows went away.

I can relate to almost everything on here, but never thought it would be b/c of the Mirena. I never put two and two together. I got it placed just after the birth of my second child in April of 2008, since then I have had no energy, no sex drive, I'm on anit-depressants (but i was depressed before so not sure on that one), I'm always smelly down south even RIGHT after a shower, and that really bothers my husband. I have really bad mood swings, I yell at everyone. I'm not the easiest person to live with right now. I have an apt next month with my OB and I'm going to get it taken out. My husband is not thrilled about that since I'm not very good at remembering to take the pill, and I'm still breastfeeding so I have to take the mini pill which you need to be even more careful about when you take it. Also sometimes I swear I think I can feeling it when I bend just right.

I am 46 years old. I first started taking Levothyrox 11 years ago during a pregnancy. Now I currently take 200 a day. I have been suffering chest pains. I also suffer bone pain. My hair has not grown in nearly 3 years. I am borderline diabetic and each day when I take the drug, I immediately sleep due to the immediate sugar elevation I feel.
Six months ago my femur broke. It seems due to a Vitamin D deficiency. Now I discover that a few of the nasty side effects that no one ever told me about is Vitamin D Deficiency and also Osteoporosis. Due to the strict bed rest that I have been on from my fractured femur, located near my pelvic, I have suffered muscle atrophy. I am too weak to even stand. So for 6 months now I have not even been able to leave my bed.
Now the only solution I feel in order to possibly save my life is to immediately discontinue the use of Levothyrox. My boyfriend is a little concerned for me doing this but I see no other way. Any feedback appreciated. Thank you.

This will be my fourth month on the pill, this is my first time on bc, I enjoy the pill i haven't had any nasty side effects. Although the first month while my body was adjusting my period stayed on for 28 days straight and then just stopped. However this pill is very expensive and I will probably be looking for the generic brand.

I am about to start Yasmin. I'm a little scared after having read all of this, but talking with my doctor today encouraged me greatly. I have been on two other kinds of birth control (Sprintec and the NuvaRing). Both gave me such terrible side affects that I have had to quit them. I have always been an extremely healthy person and I've never been an emotional person either (Im very even tempered normally). But since I've been on both of these, I've felt like I was going to pass out, been so tired but unable to sleep, nauseous, massive headaches, changes in every part of my body (dryness - everywhere - itchiness, hair growth changes, dropping sex drive, skin break outs, shortness of breath, heavy periods, extreme cramps and abdominal pains, muscle soreness and random shooting pains.) it has been terrible and my husband (while he's been an angel) is about as exhausted as I am. My emotions are across the board...I have cried several times a day and been angry and moody just as often.
My doctor told me today that my specific set of hormones may not be a fit for any type of birth control. He said there is a small percentage of women who are like this - our hormones will reject anything that messes with them. He suggested that I try Yasmin, because the hormones are supposedly more natural. He said they should match up with my natural hormones better so my body won't reject it and cause all those nasty side effects. He saidnif this one doesn't work, he's going to fit me for a diaphragm.
Did anybody else's doctor tell them something similar before they started this one? How has it gone?

My doctor prescribed Lisinopril for my high BP but before I took any I read all the stories on here and was too afraid to take it.Finally I had to do something to lower my BP because I needed surgery and the surgeon would not do the operation if my BP was high.Long story short, I started the Lisinopril, have been on it now for 2 months and I'm glad I did. It not only lowered my BP to normal in one day but I did not experience all the nasty side effects mentioned on this site. The only side effects I have experienced so far are the coughing but that was mild and it has since gone away and only happened a few times and just a little dizziness occasionally upon standing from a sitting position, I sleep very well, no hair loss, not cranky, appetite is good. I'm really happy with this medication.

Hi girls! I just wanted to write and let you know I am a 27 year old female who started using the nuvaring about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am taking the ring out tonight and am not recommending its use to any of my friends!
Since I have started using this product I have had severe pains in both my knees and have had discomfort and incredible irritation while trying to have intercourse (when I can find the mood which hasn't been very often in the past few weeks and being a Scorpio that just isn't like me!!!). My mood swings have been ridiculous and have put a damper on my birthday weekend in Montreal! I went from being a very friendly strong outgoing person to and irritable unsocial bitch that breaks down and cries for no reason at all! I cant believe the side effects have hit me so hard and so quickly and I couldn't imagine using this product for more than a month.
Im happy to have found this site and to find out I am not the only one dealing with these side effects! What surprises me is there is a commercial on Canadian television promoting this product when im not sure it should have made it to our markets to begin with! Nobody at the clinics I have been to nor the doctor I have talked to have informed me of these side effects either and I encourage us all to let our fellow female friends know this product does indeed come with some nasty side effects!
Thank you to everyone who has written a testimonial on this page I appreciate your input and hope mines has been even a little bit of help!

Started with a Pred pak for a sinus infection. Made my heart race and had tach and early heartbeat, which kept me from sleeping. Went to Cardiologist. Several doctors denied that the Pred would cause the rapid heartbeat. Then the Cardiologist did an echo and found a pericardial effusion and some weird spots on my lungs. They suspected lung cancer which may cause the effusion, so I had surgery to do a pericardial window and a lung biopsy. Then a pulmonologist decided to put me on Pred again...steady dosage...because she didn't know what else to do. (Didn't have lung cancer) I didn't have any more funny heartbeats, so maybe the pred didn't cause it after all. But I've gained 40 pounds. My hair has grown faster, and I've gotten some facial hair (not supposed to have that, being a female)...which I call fur. Moon face with cheeks that are hard, muscle cramps, can't sleep, but once I do go to sleep, I can't wake up. Tired all the time, headaches, joint pain-sometimes severe, dry skin, generally bad attitude, with very little patience, low potassium levels which add to my muscle cramping problems, difficulty swallowing, indigestion which I've never had, with painful and burning reflux. And occasionally when I eat, I have the rapid heartbeat again. I go in search of food like I'm going to store it in my thighs for winter. Anything you eat will turn to fat, including protein. Can't wait to get off this stuff which will take until June of next year. Then my doctor says it will be 3 months before all these effects wear off. No one told me I would get fur.

Hello ladies....I had taken Nuvaring for a little over a year and removed it in August to get pregnant. I too, had the extreme low sex-drive and extreme dryness as well as some initial vaginal discharge, but I had to deal with it until my wedding. It's now the end of September and I am noticing feelings of pregnancy...ie: sore breasts, extreme hunger and my hair is falling out like crazy....in the shower, every time I brush, it's all over the back of my clothes and several times throughout the day I can see my hair just hanging off the bottom of my ends. My hair is fine and thin to begin with and I'm a hair stylist so I am freaking out a bit. I read on another Nuvaring website that anyone who has diagnosed Bipolarism, Depression and other Mental issues should not take Nuvaring because it intensifies feelings of suicide. I will say that taking Nuvaring was very convenient and I inserted the ring after my period and took it out in between and it sounds like for those of you who are keeping it in during your period and/or starting it on the first day of your period are experiencing the worst of the side effects. I hope someone comes up with something someday equivalent to the convenience of Nuvaring without all of the nasty side effects.

I am so glad I found this site. I went to an ENT this week for problems I have been having with my Eustachian tubes. She checked my ears and said they were fine (which they are not) told me I had allergies and prescribed Singulair. I picked up the Rx today but when I started reading the side effects I decided to do some additional research. If Singulair causes depression and suicidal thoughts then forget it! I already suffer with depression. Thanks but no thanks. I guess I just threw $25.00(co-pay) out the window but better that than deal with these nasty side effects.

For all of the poor girls who are searching "mirena experiences" because you are looking for a sure thing contraceptive-
This site is only for people who have had BAD experiences. Read them all if you want, but take into consideration they are the 3%, or whatever number, that had problems. None of these women deserved it, asked for it, needed it, or wanted it, but unfortunately their bodies responded to it in such an ugly manor.
Here's my experience so far....Had it inserted 8/06/08. Insertion was fine. Felt that speculum more than I could feel the actual insertion of the mirena.
Slight cramping afterwards...not immediately-went home and for like 20 minutes had cramps lighter than my period cramps.
For the first week bled lightly, second week had an actual period, week three and week four just spotting. The doctor told me this can go on for up to six months...kinda worth it if you think about it.
No acne problems so far, my hair is fine (and trust me, if my hair was thinning, falling out, or anything like that I would take the mirena out!), muscles and joints feel like they did before pregnancy, still breastfeeding (I know that they say that the mirena will make you produce less breast milk-tell that to my breastfed 13 pound 24 inch long 2 month old. he would disagree)
My breasts are a little tender and at first I was slightly bloated (less than if I were on my period) but that has subsided. Abstained from sex for a month after insertion per my doctor's orders, so I will come back and post if there were any problems with that...NEXT WEEK! yay!
Know that I understand the side effects could show up later.
Now again, EVERYBODY will experience something different. We are interfering with nature. Birth control is one of the most unnatural things we could do to our body.
Again, since this site commonly comes up when searching the mirena, I want for women to know that it might work for them better than it did for others.

I had the Mirena put in July 08' and have been miserable ever since...I have had nonstop cramping, headaches, leg pain, and now a regular fever.. I was told by my Dr. that the Mirena was a great form of birth control, and that after at least 2 days after insertion, you would forget you even had it in..I begg to differ with her on that...Everyday and night im reminded of this device with the horrible days, and long sleepless painful nights.. I will be going to have this removed, and if my doctor refuses to do so, I will do to the nearest ER and have it removed...I don't recommend this device to any women out there, its made me unbearable to live with and bed ridden..to all the ladies out there, please do research on this product, and don't go through these nasty side effects......

I've been on Zoloft for about 4 years now (100mg) a day and I really want to stop taking it. At the time I was put on it I was just getting myself out of a really bad situation and I needed to be put on it for severe anxiety and panic attacks. I'm in a totally different situation now and am doing fine, I don't want to rely on medication anymore to make me feel "ok". I actually kind of feel like it's counteracting in my system. The only thing really holding me back is the fear of crazy side effects after you stop taking it. I heard you can even have a heart attack =/ Has anyone gone through this or going through it right now?

Statin Drugs cause congestive heart failure, muscle wasting, memory loss, cancer, damage to the liver and kidneys and generally disrupt the quality of life of anyone who takes it. I know because my elderly mother was prescribed 20 mgs lipitor after her stroke in 2006. She suffers from everything I listed except for the cancer. The doctors did all the tests to rule out other causes but her problems are worsening to the point where she can barely walk. The doctors still don't want to stop the lipitor and won't even require that she take Coq10. How criminal is that? According to Therapeutics Initiative, statins provide only a 4% absolute benefit from having a major coronary event for people in the secondary prevention group like my mother but you have to take the statin for 5 years in order to get that lousy 4% benefit.
Add in the nasty side effects over the 5 years and I am sure that the side effects would cancel out all those benefits.
Lipitor is a scam drug that ruins the lives of the patients who take it.

I lasted just 20 days on Yaz. I had a persistent "kicked-in-the-stomach" feeling that just wouldn't go away. This is the kind of stomach pain that makes you want to bend over and not sit or stand up straight. For days which I wasn't even on my period, I had cramping and a backache -- which usually only occur for 1-2 days during my period. So it's like I got to experience the pain of my period most of the month! Finally, I couldn't stand the stomach ache any more, and read the leaflet that came with the pills. Then I jumped online and -- surprise! I'm not the only one experiencing nasty side effects. Thank God I finally figured it out. However, it's been 3 days OFF the pills, and still my stomach has been hurting. And for all that pain, my period is still heavy! I had tried Ortho Tricyclen in the past and had very few side effects. It was NOTHING as bad as this. These are some of the worst pills I have ever taken.

Male, 43 yrs old, diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis 18 years ago. Have taken Prednisone in 1996, 2001 and 2008 to control the symptoms from UC. Each time started with around 40mg per day, tapering down to 2.5mg per day, usually over a 6 to 12 week time period. Bottom line, it can be a life-saving drug for whatever it is prescribed for, but it has some SERIOUS side effects. For me, severe anxiety, nausea, headaches, and weight loss. You can be prescribed an anti-anxiety medicine like Xanax (as I am), but Xanax also has its own nasty side effects. (Namely addiction if you aren't careful.) You definitely don't want to go off Prednisone without "tapering down" on the dosage as your body will NOT be able to handle it. Currently, having just stopped my most recent dosage of it a week ago, I am still suffering from anxiety and sleeplessness (stopped taking Xanax too.) Lord willing, my body will be back to "normal" within the next few weeks, which is generally how long it takes for me,

11 days ago I had indigestion and following that I had continuous heartburn. Doctor said it was gastritis and prescribed me gaviscon and omeprazole. I took one omeprazole pill in the morning after breakfast everyday for 5 days when I started to have the following symptoms: bad cramps/aches on left shoulder blades/neck, cramps/pins and needles in left arm, numbing of hands at times, nausea, tightening of the chest, sweaty cold hands and feet and lastly the most painful of all, numbing of my throat! The doctor checked my throat many times and said that it is not swollen yet I am positive there is something wrong with it. It is actually not sore when I swallow, just feels numb and cloudy? Sometimes I can't yawn fully because my throat closes up when I do and I cannot speak too much as I get breathless. I see that people here have started getting these symptoms via a long term use of this medication and not mere 5 days. Either way, I stopped taking it since today however symptoms are still present and stronger than ever tonight. I cannot sleep as I am too afraid to, as I have also been getting very vivid nightmares. I have started taking Ranitidine (twice a day)from today and I am a bit nervous about whether it is going to bring me nasty side effects too or not. I really just want the omeprazole's side effects to go away first but it seems as though it may actually take some time.... anyone had this numb throat which has caused difficulties in breathing? I also couldn't go to sleep before because when I would lie down my chest and throat felt like they were closing up even more and if I tried to sleep I would feel as though I couldn't breathe. Does Randitine cause nightmares!?
