No anniversary sex because of Mirena... this is super fun!! I got the thing inserted on 5/8/09 and today is 5/21/09. It was painful for a few days and friends and doctor said it was normal, but I felt really bad. I couldn't sit sometimes. I feel this thing inside me even now. I started getting headaches the last two weeks and I never have headaches. I haven't been working out because I'm tired. I have cramps, irritation, and constant bleeding since I got this. I also felt a lump inside my vagina that was not there before-- it was not my cervix I know where that is. I am disappointed because I have had problems with other methods of birth control and really hoped this would work. I am going back to Natural Family Planning/Fertility Awareness in which I chart my temperature (oral), cervical fluid, and other stuff. Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility if you want to try it.

I have been on the nuvaring for about a year and a half, but just took out my last one. I am done with it. It was great for the first 3-4 months and I do still like the convenience, however I have been spotting two weeks out of every three I have it in, plus my period week, so basically bleeding for 3 weeks a month for the last year. I kept thinking it would go away, but it hasn't and I'm soooooooo over bleeding all the time. My doctor wouldn't switch me bc she said if I spot on nuvaring I will spot on anything else hormonal, so I guess I will be trying natural family planning. Wish me luck.

I am a mom of three, the youngest is only 5 months and have always thought that the IUD was not a method for me. After much reading, discussing with my friends that tried Mirena or Paraguard, and trying to take birth control pills after 7 years of using natural family planning, I decided that Mirena was probably the best option for someone as busy and preoccupied as me. I only had mirena inserted yesterday and have already made an appointment to have it taken out tomorrow. The insertion was painful but the cramping and discomfort the hour immediately after the insertion approached labor pains. Today I have peritoneal pain, and I feel pressure upon sitting or moving. The bleeding has stopped but I have a weird mucus like discharge unlike anything I have ever seen before. I did experience nausea today but I can not definitively attribute it to Mirena. I really hope that it has not perforated my uterus, which I have now learned is more likely among lactating women. I also only just saw that depression was a possible side effect and being the working mom of 3 children under 4 already have enough tiredness and mood swings to pass around.

I have had the Merina for 4 years. I never had any problem with it...up untill now. Insertion was easy and my periods stayed regular. No problems at all. I even recommended it to all my friends. This last year I have had so much depression and phantom pregnancies. I keep thinking I am pregnant when I am not. I think my body is not agreeing with the hormones.

My friend had hers removed after 1 month due to weight gain.

My sister's started to fall out and now she is 6 months pregnant. She had it removed as soon as she found out she was preg.

I wanted to let you all know there is a link and phone number on the Merina website to report negative side effects to the FDA.

Wow.....how horrible to hear about your experiences, but I too am glad I found you and want to share my own experiences as well. Was using natural family planning for birth control and it was going great, then all of the sudden, started bleeding frequently and heavily, so my gyn put me on it to regulate the hormonal imbalance or possible endo and I have been a mess....people have noticed I'm really anxious and I am a pretty laid back person, I am irritable, depressed, cannot sleep, decreased sex drive, sore and stiff, and had several incidents of crushing pain in chest and numbness and tingling in my arms. The weight gain is horrible, I just got back from getting professional pictures done and itr was so evident that my face is so round and puffy and I cannot wear a lot of my clothing now. I have only been on it two months, but quit taking it a few days ago and am calling the doc tomorrow to get her advice. This pill is the worst birth control I have ever used-and I've tried several kinds......

ANY BIRTH CONTROL (INCLUDING YASMIN) MAKES ME CRAZY!!! THANK GODDDD I had a friend who had the same thing happen to her, and she pretty much made me get off, b/c she knew how I started acting was b/c of my birth control. It almost ruined my new marriage...I would cry because of anything and it was SO NOT ME. I even started waking up with anxiety attacks. I was totally depressed all of a sudden, after a year of being on it. I got off of Yasmin and it was like some one turned ON the lights. I am totally back to normal,,now I cry b/c I am SO HAPPY! and looking back I really was crazy, and I couldn't have done anything about the way I was acting. I am SO happy now and my husband doesn't mind the "natural family planning" method b/c he has his normal confident wife back. I guess women do have a needy crybaby stigma.....they're all on birth control. If you're crying for no reason....EVERYDAY.....GET OFF BIRTH CONTROL!!!

Girls everywhere . I have one question and please you can reply in private or on here, whatever you like. Did any of the doctors that prescribed Yasmin to you ever give you a hormonal test? I have been going through really bad emotional mood swings for a white but did not have insurance so never really go myself checked out. So last month I went back to my home country and visited a gyno(where medicine is not so overpriced) who has been recommended to me by numerous people and he did a bunch of hormone tests on me concluded (by blood work) that I have a hormonal inbalance. Before the tests were done he obviously asked me a bunch of questions and I warned him that last time i had gone on a losely prescribed birth control(which is was suppose to be very low hormone dosage) I went practically nuts. After seeing my results and finding my inbalance he has prescribed Yasmin to me because apparently I have too much estrogen and other things I couldnt really understand because I am not a doctor but I think one of the things it does is to block some of these hormone from going to your brain. So My point after all this rambling is that ALL of our bodies are different and all birth controls are different and have different hormones which could drive a normal person insane with or without taking the pills SO my suggestion if you are having trouble with Yasmin is to get your hormone levels checked, Yasmin may be the devil to you but its probably because you dot need certain components that are in it or lack some. Get real tests done!

All this info is blowing my mind. I've been off Yasmin for about 2 1/2 years but was thinking about going back on because my hubby and I need a bc method and it's working really well for a friend. Since going off I've suffered horrible, scarring, persistent acne. But no way am I getting back on this stuff. I suffer from depression anyway but on Yasmin I started having panic attacks, and felt super vulnerable to stressors (also felt leg tingliness, g.i. problems, nausea, weakness). Took it while taking Lexapro. I just feel badly that it took me years to put two and two together about the side effects Yasmin was wreaking on me body. I am searching for another bc method and am beginning to wonder if hormonal bc will never work for me. I have to get rid of this acne though -- I've done everything. Can anyone recommend a decent bc pill or am I going to have to continue with natural family planning (iffy and confusing) and buy stock in a concealer company?

Like everyone else I was on Yasmin for about 2 years. The first year was great and I was telling everyone how great it was. Then all of a sudden a couple of months ago all the side effects hit hard. I was very emotional, irritable, hungry all the time, sleepy all the time, no sex drive, night sweats, heart palpations (sometimes) and high blood pressure.

I went to the doctor for a complete physical and he never put two and two together about my symptons and the pill. All my blood work showed that I was completely normal but inside of me I knew I wasn't. So I realized that I had to be my own advocate and do my own research. My husband stumbled upon this website and this website has helped me out soo much! I thought I was going crazy and was so relieved to see that it was this stupid pill. To me, it's not worth it anymore so my husband and I are using the natural family planning method. My husband has been so supportive and patient with all my craziness.

So, I have been off Yasmin since June 1st and the first week was great! My energy was back, I could stay up later, felt calmer and had a sex drive. However, right now I feel really irritable and no sex drive. I hope that this is just because my hormones are trying to re-adjust or I am still trying to get the Yasmin completely out of my system.

All I can say is to really listen to your body and if there is something inside of you saying that something is wrong then please don't ignore it. Most of the times we have to be our own advocates for our bodies!

I am at the end of my third month for Yasmin... I was on Ovcon before that for four months but it was not helping my periods. My whole point of getting on the pill was to regulate my periods, and help with the intense pain... Since Ovcon didn't work I was put on Yasmin which has regulated me to the tee... However, all sex drive is gone, I get opthamalic (sp) migraines...headaches... My husband says I'm moody and he blames the pill for everything... I didn't even know I was being moody and now I can tell that my attitude has changed....but I can't go back to how my periods were before...they were just awful and I had them every two weeks for 7 - 10 days at a time.... The sex drive is the biggest issue with me...I already had gotten the weight gain from the Ovcon and my face looked like I was 16 (I'm 29)... Yasmine has cleared up my face though.... If there was a way to get my sex drive back I would love it...I can deal with the other affects. But there are side effects to every pill. I would not use the pill merely for birth control. In fact my husband and I had been using Natural Family Planning which had been working out great...with the exception that I was bleeding half my life away.... It's not worth it to go through all the side effects when there are many other ways of preventing pregnancy.
