My healthy sixteen year old daughter was prescribed Bactrim twice daily for acne on the 7th and began a full course on the 8th of April. Agressively preparing for a solo competition on clarinet, we did not get too concerned when she complained of some shortness of breath and neck stiffness and tightness at the base of her skull on the 13th. On the 14th she had some difficulty with hand and finger coordination. By late evening of the 16th she had developed an oral temp. of 101.3 F, was complaing of severe fatigue, had swollen and painful lymph glands at the base of her skull and under her jaw. When she awoke on the 17th after a fitful night, she had a red, raised, itchy rash from head to toe, swelling of the face, neck, and hands and a sensation of burning everywhere her clothing touched her skin. Her eyes were glazed and red. The Bactrim was discontinued. While some of the symptoms now are very slowly dissapating, she continues to complain or lethargy and dizziness, sleeping more than awake. Perhaps, needless to say, she bombed at her competition on the 15th. Sad, since she had been preparing for months. Thanks so much, Bactrim. We pray there are no lasting side effects that others have experienced.

Hi neverybody,
I was on day 4 of this antibiotic for sinusitis when I woke with severe neck stiffness, (unable to do chin to chest). This progressed to headache and I remembered then that I had pain in my eye the night before. I also had profound sleepiness on night 4. I work nights and this was affecting my judgement. I felt very low on night four and emotionally labile.crying came easy but for no real reason.
My shoulders are sore and my neck still aches but it is not as bad. i did not contact dr. Should I? I stopped before finishing the course on day 5.
Good luck to everyone and I hope your are all well soon,
Lou ,

I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel after starting 40 mg simvastatin, my wrist had never bothered me before, was one step away from surgery. Other joints started giving me problems. As joint problems grew I also was getting weaker. I felt so weak I couldn't get out of bed. Headache, neck stiffness, nausea, and kidney pain. Doctor just told me blood test does not show anything is wrong. I stopped the pills 4 days ago and my wrist no longer hurts. I'm still weak. I think they haven't found the test that proves the way this drug is the cause. How can I be is such bad shape but the tests look normal?

I was prescribed Sulfamethoxazole-TMP tablets for a severe UTI that I developed. I was given 10 tablets total--and instructed to take two per day. Within an hour of taking the first tablet, my UTI felt much better, however, the rest of me felt horrible! I got nausea, dizziness, extreme confusion and depression, and stiffness and pain in my neck and shoulders. I continued the medication anyway, b/c I never had sulfur or ANY medicinal allergies. I had difficulty sleeping the next few nights, I would wake up in the middle of the night for no reason. The soreness of my neck and shoulders then extended to my butt and thighs. I can't describe how uncomfortable this was. I was sitting at work literally writhing in pain from what I felt in my legs. (and I blamed it on my poor desk chair!!) This happened on day three of five. Also, while at work I had an "episode" if you will, where I became extremely confused and disoriented, and nearly had a panic attack. It felt like the world was crashing down on me!! It only lasted for 15 minutes or so, but I will not forget the way I felt. All the while, my UTI symptoms were getting better and better. I was completely unable to have a bowel movement...sorry for this information...but it will start to make you worry if you can't poo for 5 days!! Day four of five is what I like to call "The Enlightenment". I was getting in the shower, still dizzy as hell, and noticed that I was very itchy. I looked at my lower back and I was covered in red, itchy bumps. I was say they looked like small mosquito bites, all in a cluster of about 8 on either side of my lower back. I realized then and there that this medication really was ravaging my body like I had feared. I found this site and others online which confirmed that I wasn't crazy...just poisoned. Later that day I was resting on my couch and looked in the mirror and saw that my entire face was covered in a red rash. (and I got a horrific headache) The worst part is you don't really look outwardly sick or anything...you just feel terrible. Everyone I told was very nonchalant about it..."Oh just take some Benadryl". I've lost my faith in the FDA. I stopped this medication one pill shy of my last dose. I am terrified of the possible lasting effects and will never take this drug again!! PLEASE!! NEVER TAKE THIS MEDICATION!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!

I had to have my appendix removed -- told them before surgery that I had very bad chronic acid reflux, so I guess that's why the surgeon wrote orders for them to give me Reglan right after the surgery -- he did not specify for how long, and they kept giving it to me every four hours for the next day or so. Within 24 hours, I had terrible nausea causing violent dry heaves (there was nothing to throw up because I hadn't eaten anything for the previous 24 hours. When I did try a few sips of water or broth, I would immediately vomit that back up). I was dry heaving so hard and so continuously I was afraid I was going to break my stitches from the appendectomy. Also had extreme shortness of breath, like I was having an anxiety attack, extreme stiffness/pain in my neck and head mucles, like the back of my neck and my head were being crushed in a giant vise grip. Felt very dissociated and had trouble focusing my eyes and focusing my attention on anything. .
If I laid down to try to rest, the shortness of breath would get worse -- would feel like I was suffocating. So then I would get up and walk around a little to try to breathe better, and the violent dry heaves would start again until I was so exhausted from them I would try to lay down again to rest a little. Then the shortness of breath would start up again, and I would have to stand up . . . I went round and round like that for a solid 24 hours, no sleep, until the surgeon showed up for his rounds and decided I might be having a reaction to the Reglan, that he hadn't intended for them to keep me on it for that long. They took me off the Reglan, then the surgeon and my regular MD called in a neurologist who prescribed Flexaril for the neck stiffness and Phenergan for the nausea, instead of the Zofran they had been giving me, which wasn't helping.
Within 30 minutes of my first doses of Phenergan and Flexaril (and I had been off the Reglan for about 3-4 hours by then), I was sleeping like a baby, and continued to rest comfortably throughout the night, and was able to go home the next day with prescriptions for Phenergan, Lortab, and Flexaril. I will never, NEVER allow anyone to give me Reglan again -- I seiously felt like I was dying, and it scared the h*ll out of both my husband and me, because I am not the "sickly" type at all, The entire episode was a nightmare, and I am convinced it was directly related to the Reglan.

took one dose of avelox at 830pm yesterday and then took one dose of hydrocodone for cough at 1100pm. Woke up 2 hours later with ankle & wrist joint pain, swollen flushed face and upper extremeities, completely bloodshot eyes(no visible whites), fever, chills, neck stiffness, itching on neck, shoulders and arms, general body aches, overall joint stiffness. saw doc today and he said conjunctivitis-prescribed drops, and that it was just the infection I had running it's course. Now my husband does not want me to take this evenings dose. perplexed as I have some underlying connective tissue disease and I am not sure if the joint stuff and redness is just due to being out in the sun yesterday without sunscreen and the aftermath

My husband went on Lisinopril in Feb 07, his bp went down and was regulated his headaches almost left but then he had sinus surgery in mar or apr. He has now developed muscle twitching and now the "doctors" say he has Motor Neuron Disease.... I refuse to believe after reading everyone's side affects that this 41 year old with no family history of this other than 1/2 siblings with high bp that he has this disease. He has experienced neck stiffness like it is broken (had MRI) no broken bones or slipped disc, he has had the chills, hw has vision blurred issues, heaviness in his legs, left side of his body more prominent than the right, he has crazy dreams and thoughts, he feels like he is dying, he doesn't however have any coughs, he has anxiety which they put him on anti depressant. After reading others comment I researched this med, it was developed by venom in a poisonous Brazilian snake. My husband as a child would get bitten by wasps, fire ants etc.. they would rush him to ER for meds and he used to take shots if stung, swells up like a balloon. So in my theory this med has the snake bite affects and I believe this has caused him to have this neuron disease but I can't prove it. His muscles twitch all the time. I believe this drug has been slowly poisoning him to a eventually paralysis to death. I have begged the doctor to take him off. He has but now he is on Atenolol, which is not much better but has no snake venom or ACE inhibitors. Please people email me. I am desperate we need to band together.
Thanks you Joann

I am a healthy, 36 year old woman and on 3/18/07 I was hospitalied for a blood infection caused by e.coli and was given levaquin intraveinously (sp?) during that time. Upon release from the hospital I was given a perscription for 750mg once daily for 10 days. In the hospital, I was having TERRIBLE HEADACHES- borderline migraines, HORRIFIC NIGHTMARES and was also sweating profusely throughout the night. When I got home and began taking the prescription pills, I continued to have the nightmares, nightsweats and headaches but then started having ODD TINGLING SENSATIONS IN MY LEGS, DEPRESSION, BACK PAINS & TERRIBLE NECK STIFFNESS/CRAMPING as well as INSOMNIA. (Right now it's 2:53 am and I am up writing this email). I am also noticing some pain in the tendons in my ankles and feet. After I read these postings I immediately flushed these pills down the toilet. I believe that these postings saved me from further suffering and possible long term damage. At this point, the cons of the medication seem to definitely outweigh out the pros. I am a mother of three (two of whom are under three yrs old) and I can't afford to have any lingering and/or debilitating side effects. Good luck to all and may God bless and keep you.
PS - It may be helpful if future posters would include their ages and health status pre-levaquin to help others in ascertaining risks, etc.

I'm a 28yo male. I have already shared my experiences as guest #31827. This is an update of my condition.
It has been over four months now since I've stopped taking Zocor(which I only was on for one week at 10mg), and there has been little change in my condition. My neurologist said that I have drug induced myopathy and It can take six months to recover from, with 100% recovery, and there is nothing they can do as far as treatment for it right now. I found out that my muscle enzymes were up to almost 6000 when I was on the Zocor. I'm still very fatigued, weak, muscle tightness, bad tension headache, neck stiffness/pain, vivid dreams every night, very out of it mentally(brain dead). I'm a firefighter/paramedic for a living, and have been unable to work because of this. I'm really hoping and praying that I recover very soon and get my life and job back.
Does anyone out there know about any class action lawsutes going on? Has any of you been in my condition and fully recovered, and how long did it take you? I'm young and healthy otherwise. This shows you how powerful and dangerous statins are! If you have any insight for me and others about recovery write back.

I have been taking Prednisoner about 2-3 times per year for my allergies and asthma for the past 3 years. Usually I gain a few pounds and have insomnia for a day or two. This time is out of control. I stopped taking it almost three weeks ago and I still have insomnia, neck stiffness, fatigue, a low grade fever, nausea and a sensitivity so strong to heat that I have a panic attack every time I get hot or go outside. My doctor has no idea what to do. He said it will go out of my system eventually. Suggested lots of water and a detox diet of brown rice, beans and veggies - no refined flour, sugar or caffeine. Anyone having anything similar? Xanax doesn't work for me. I've been taking Benadryl to sleep.

I am a 38 year old women who is diagnosed with Hypothroid. I was on Levoxyl for a couple weeks and got changed to Armour and was feeling pretty great more like myself. I got switched to Levoxyl again when I found out I was pregnent. I had constant headaches, rashes on neck, loss of concentration, muscle aches and heart palipatations.
I also have depression. I ended up loosing the baby and have some bad days most of the time. My emotions are all over the map.
I am switching my doctor so I am hoping that I can be put on armour again to start feeling like myself.

After taking 10mg 3x week (no problems) my doctor asked me to take it daily. I did from 11/1/05 through 12/05/05 and began having neck stiffness/shoulder/arm/elbow/wrists/hand/hip pain so severe that I could not sleep in my bed - could not use my arms. The pain was the worst I have ever had. My primary sent me to a Rheumatologist who said (after 6 vials blood/11 x-rays of hands/shoulders) that I had polymyalgiarheumatica. I had taken Prednisone before (years ago) and it caused me to become greatly agitated. She asked me to try 1-5mg pill for 5 days and then go to 2-5mg pills. Tomorrow is my third dose of 2 pills and thus far I am doing fine. Pain has alleviated somewhat but nothing to write home about. COULD LIPITOR HAVE BROUGHT ON THIS PROBLEM? My gut tells me yes - primary said: "Maybe." What do you say?
Thank you.

I have been on lisinopril for at least 4 years. When I mention several things I feel are connected to this drug I am told probably not by my PCP.
1. Dry scratchy throat, cough.
2. Severe leg and foot cramps.
3. Ears ringing.
4. Back and leg pain.
5. Neck stiffness and pain.
6. Stomach problems and GERD.
7. Swelling of the neck.
8. Headaches.
9. Runny nose.
10. Tightness of the chest.
11. Lightheadedness.
12. Shortness of breath.
I find when I do not take this drug for just one day I feel more normal.
But, none of these are a side effect of Lininopril?
All the tests I have endured to find nothing wrong?
Sounds like a class action suit should be in order.

I started taking 10 mg of Lipitor in 1997 and have been taking 80 mg for about 6 years. I have not noticed any side effects attributed to Lipitor. I do have many severe leg cramps at night and muscle pain in my right leg when in static situations (sitting, standing & sleeping). I also have foot numbness & toe & finger cramps. I have also lost much of my finger and arm strength. I & my doctor have attributed these symptoms to arthritis. I can still play tennis & golf but my neck stiffness is becoming more of a problem. I am 73 and am afraid to stop taking Lipitor as it has corrected my C problem. I also experience hot periods in the middle of the night.

I have been mistified lately by what has been going on with me. I have allergies that are not under control. I take Zyrtec and flonase. When I went into my Dr. complaining that I didn't feel well. She said it was allergies and that I should try Singulair since it has been approved for allergies. Well I felt better for a couple of days and then boom! Sore throat, ear popping, fatigue, neck stiffness, upper abdomen tenderness and swollen glands under my jaw. No fever though. I thought perhaps I had Mono. So I had the Mono test done and it was negative. Now I read these posts, and I am thinking it could be the singulair. I can barely function during the day, and have been taking 3 hour naps! Wow. I will stop taking it today and let you all know how I am doing in a couple of days!

This Levaquin is some potent stuff. Rat poison probably.
WOW!
And guess what, I have only taken "1". I have bad anxiety, very irritable, bad headache, pain in the back of my neck-stiffness too, also I have very bad muscle aches. Feels like I just worked out for hours, that is how sore I am.
I called the Dr. to switch to something else and all of the other drugs have side effects but, not as bad as this one. I feel for all of you who have taken more than "1". It must be bad.
I have started Shaklee and I am a member, meaning that I paid a membership price and I am taken a detoxin (natural vitamin) to help get this drug out of my body. You need to get this out, because otherwise it stays in your body and you get worse.
If any of you need help with the de-toxin part, e-mail me and I will try, by Gods grace, helping you.
Also, they have a cream that people swear by used for pain and muscle pain.
I will be than happy to help, please don't think that I will be making money off you, I just am a member and I get a discount and I could let all of you get a discount also.
Meanwhile, we should start a petition and let the FDA read all of this. This drug company is going down!
Save and write down all of your reactions and problems related to this drug. I don't want to see or hear about another person suffer from this.
Like I said, I cannot believe what just 1 pill has done.
Amazing!

After being on Diovan hct 160/25 for about two years I developed a severe stiffness in my neck, a piercing center chest pain when I coughed and so much muscle/joint pain I could barely get out of bed in the morning. Don't know if it is a result of Diovan, but this is my only med. Finally (after a year) I spent six months undergoing tests and consults with one doctor who finaly gave up. A second doctor diagnosed fibromyalgia and prescribed diclofenac, which somewhat controls the neck stiffness and pain. Now, a year after the fibromyalgia diagnosis I am learning Diovan might be at fault but don't know what to do next. Any suggestions welcome!...
