I was prescribed the doxycycline hyclate 100mg twice daily for 21 days for lymes disease, I am on my 4th day, I had a hard time getting to sleep last night, I usually just fall to sleep in seconds. I am a 40 year sufferer of IBS "diarrhea", my worst time is usually in the morning, I noticed by the first day that my IBS symptoms were less severe and this morning I have been up for 4 hours and have not had to go yet.
I only negative side effect I have had so far is difficulty going to sleep, If it works to reduce or eliminate my IBS symptoms along with the lymes I can deal with the insomnia for a while.
I have been using probiotics for a while prior to starting on the doxy and the probiotics did seem to help with my IBS symptoms but not to this degree, I drink plenty of water with the doxy, so far I would have to say so good but it is early in the prescription so who knows, thank you to every one for posting your experiences with this drug

I am 16 years old and currently using NuvaRing to get rid of large ovarian cysts that cause(d) severe pain and would result in infertility when I was older if untreated. I was really worried after reading these comments of the negative side effects - but now I realize it depends on the person, really. Since I have been on it, the pain from the cysts have gone down, although the cysts are still there. I am not entirely sure if NR will entirely eliminate them, but they do kill some of the pain away from doing physical activities and urinating. I have always been around 105 pounds with size C breasts (yes, a wonderful combination that most would kill for!) and being on NR has only increased my weight by one pound, which I can safely say went straight to my breasts. They went from a size C to a D! My breasts are tender sometimes, which is mainly the only negative side effect. However, my mood has, if anything, been more positive since starting NR. I realize most of these comments are probably from women in their 20s or 30s, so maybe age has something to do from it. But as a teenager, it has only helped me. Better yet, I know that when I am ready for sex I will be double protected against pregnancy from condom use and NR.
Anyone who reads these comments and fears NR, do not make up your mind just yet. NR has different side effects for different people, which could be positive or negative. To stereotype NR as a "bad" form of birth control is incorrect. It may not work for one person, but the next person could absolutely love it. Give it a chance, and sure, if the outcome is not what you desired, then I would recommend going off of NR. When you are tampering with your body (in this case, hormonal levels) there are always risks. As long as you know your body's limits and what is okay and not okay, then at least try NuvaRing. It's simple, too - you do not have to remember a pill every day, just a simple ring every three weeks.
I hope I helped someone out!

Quick update....Mirena inserted December 5, 2008. Have had no problems, no spotting or cramping at all. So far no hair loss, bloating or anything else. Will see if these things start up soon. Waiting for the 1st of January when "my monthly" should visit. I have found some positive posts on here that have helped me greatly. I hope this post is able to help someone.

I have been on Yaz for over 2 years now and have never experienced one negative side effect. My periods last about 3 days and the mood swings (all PMS symptoms) are gone! Of course there is still cramping, but only for one day, and a simple ibuprofun (?) will take care of that.
Its at least worth a shot, it might turn out to be a great thing in your life!

Does no one realize that this is normal for MOST BC. The low sex drive is normal! Mood swings.... normal. It can take up to 6 months for the meds to get out of your body once you stop taking them. I would suggest getting on a non hormonal birth control. Does no one read the side effects to Meds before they start taking them?

I get a slight, focused ache in the right side of my head just above and between my temple and ear. I have noticed this consistently each time I take one capsule week or several weeks in between one 1000 mg Spectrum brand capsule. it is most annoying and disconcerting.

I have never experienced a negative side effect to any medication until Avelox. I was prescribed a 5 day dose of Avelox for a sinus infection and two days into it, I am lightheaded, dizzy, and nauseous. I am experiencing difficulty processing thoughts and am suffering from insomnia. I would not recommend this antibiotic to anyone.

I received the Kenalog shot in my right shoulder for joint pain that other meds could not resolve on September 13, 2007 (tomorrow will be one week ago) After the first 48 hours of injection I did experience the "typical" steriod type side effects being facial flushing, hot flashes, minor anxiety and slight insomnia on the first couple of nights after the injection. I have just recently noticed a hot/burning sensation on the outside of my right ankle, almost like I applied icy hot to that area. Never before have I experienced this, although it is not painful, it is a weird feeling. As I was first reading all of the other postings I immediately became overwhelmed with anxiety because I too asked my doctor the side effects and as all of the others have stated he said "One percent of patients get an infection in the injection site". That's it, he never said one single side effect. My question to all is that I haven't read anyones posting that states an onset time of the side effects they are experiencing. Am I to still expect more side effects? Has the Kenalog not be in my body long enough for the side effect to become apparent? Please advise! Thanks in advance for sharing such personal information with me. BTW- my shoulder pain has resolved for the time being but because of the now known REAL side effects of Kenalog- If I was to have to take this shot again to keep the pain from coming back- I choose the pain. My heart goes out to everyone who has had even the slightest negative side effect from this drug! LJONES/VA

I have been taking 300mg for 4 years. The first negative side effect was I passed out. The doctor reduced it to 225mg a day. I also take imdur, norvasc, lasex, altace and quite a few more. I am only 38 and I am surprised I don't have any more side effects. Oh I have experienced weight gain. Has anyone else noticed that? If curious I take all these meds for Hcm with ventricular tachycardia. Had an ICD put in in 2003. Man now that I type this all out sounds like I am in really bad shape. ok I am done babbling. To make a long story short I just want to know if anyone has had some weight gain?

Hi all! I've stopped taking Yasmin (thanks to this site!) a full week ago. I feel 100% better. My husband refers to me as his "new wife"....the one without all the anxiety, tears and crabbiness! I've lost 4 lbs (although I've also been watching calorie intake both before and after stopping Yasmin) and so far the only negative side effect has been a few pimples. I cannot tell you how much better I feel...its incredible and I'd never had thought it was Yasmin causing all of the trouble unless I found this site. My doctor doesn't believe me and said I shoudl not stop taking Yasmin unless I wanted to get pregnant. Well, we've bought condoms and I'm pretty sure we'll be ok :-). I've also switched ob/gyns because my old one wouldn't even listen to me and consider that my problems might be from Yasmin. All she wanted to do was give me more medication rather than try to find the problem. Good luck to all of you! Hang in there...it does get better!

I had back surgery sevral years ago & now need another. Then I had a major heart attack & had heart surgery. I live on pain medication for my beck & take a handful of pills daily for my heart. I am only 47 years old.
I have had problems sleeping for sometime lately have been very stressed. My Doctor put me on Xanax about 2 months ago. At first I slept & felt well but lately I feel overly emotional. I will cry over anything or nothing & just have this feeling like I'm going to die.
I'm wondering if this is a side effect of the Xanax.

After taking the hell that is Depo-Provera for 5 years, I switched to Yasmin 8 months ago. It took about 5 months to get the Depo out of my system and in the last 3 months i have noticed increased energy, improved acne and decreased moodiness. In the past 8 weeks I have lost 18 lbs (a welcome side effect after gaining 43 lbs on Depo Provera) and am down to 122 lbs again(without diet or excersize)! WHOO HOO! And yes, I have had negative side effect. These include increased anxiety, but i can deal with that. And increased heart rate while on my feet and running at work. But after weighing the benefits I am happier everyday that I am on Yasmin!!!

Hi everyone
I just wanted to say thank you for all of the posts you have put up. They are the only thing that have kept me sane in the last month. I have been on Yasmin for a year already and had almost no noticeable symptoms with the exception of shortness of breath from time to time. It did clear up my skin and increase my breast size as well.
It seems like every negative side effect of the drug has just hit me recently. It all started after my first pill of this pill pack with nausea and an odd tingling in my breasts, something that I have never experienced before. Then it progressed into the worst cramps I have ever felt that came on 1 1/2 weeks before my period was due to start, complete with lower back pain and a weird chunky white discharge. Then the dizzy spells started. I could hardly go to work. I felt I was in a fog the entire day. In addition to this all I was extremely depressed and had odd leg cramps.
The whole time I thought I was pregnant because I had never felt this way before and pregancy seemed like the only explanation. I went to the doctor and had a blood pregnancy test which came out negative. After reading this site one sleepless night, I found out it may actually be Yasmin that was causing me so much pain. When I called my gynecologist, and mentioned to her that I thought my symptoms might be from Yasmin, she told me I was crazy because no way would it start to affect me after a year of being on it.
Well, I am on my placebo pills now and I feel MUCH better. I am not sure what to do next. I do not want to go on and off birth control. I am thinking of trying something new, but am a little scared. I want to let you know that the symptoms may strike at any time regardless of the length of time you have been on the pill. Good luck everyone!

After taking Clonazepam, my anxiety lessened and i found myself able to sleep more deeply and easily. I take upwards of .5 to 1.5mg at nightime to sleep. Itr calms me down and at times, can make you feel a little euphoric. I wouldnt say that the euphoria is a negative side effect but, some otehrs might view it as such. Enjoy sleeping and living a relatively anxiety free life.

Good Afternoon,
I have been on Yasmin for 4 months. The only negative side effect is break thru bleeding. The positive side is that my face has cleared up from acne, I have lost 10 pounds and back to my old weight of 110. My sexual desire has increased. I'm curious of people who are having more positive than negative side effects.

Ack - forgot one more possible negative side effect: foot cramps, not calf cramps, whenEVER (not just nighttime). Never gotten foot cramps like this before. I just posted the long-winded effects immediately before this one. Positive side effects: there aren't many cramps at all, but sometimes it feels faintly like I have them--when it's not that time of the month. Good luck, everyone!

I'm sorry so many have had such negative experiences with YAZ/Yasmin. Mine has been nothing but good. No other pill has worked for me with regard to my PCOS, painful cramping, bloating, etc. and I've been on it over 4 years. When my insurance wouldn't cover the cost I tried others as a substitute, and none worked half as well. On any other pill my periods were so painful, that cramps woke me up in the middle of the night. I pay out of pocket for it because it's the only pill that has really helped me...and I tried 4 or 5 others, all with no benefit/relief for my painful periods and PCOS.
As for mood swings/depression, I was/am already on a daily low dose of paxil, so perhaps that preempted any mood effects like those described by some. All I know is, this pill works for me when nothing else has and the only real negative side effect I have from it (if you can call it that) is increased urination from the diuretic to counteract bloat. Can't say I mind so much.
I'm sorry it's not been the same for others. :(
