I understand there is a lot of negativity surrounding this drug, and although I read a lot of similar stories before filling my prescription, I started taking Yaz. Since I have started my period, I have suffered extreme back pain, moodiness, cramping, bloating and a flow so heavy I would go through a super tampon almost every hour. So when I was 14 I started on Alesse. It helped a little with the bleeding and did nothing for my pain. I am now 20 years old and just switched to Yaz. My life has changed. For the first time in 8 years I feel no cramping, bloating, nausea, back pain or diarrhea that was associated with my period. My flow is much lighter. My moods are completely stable and my sex drive has improved. Not to mention my skin is in perfect condition. I have the energy I have always wanted at this time of the month and finally I can get myself out of bed (I have missed school because of my pain). For some, this drug may not help. But for others, like me, it can change your life. I am so happy...maybe it has something to do with actually having PMDD symptoms. If you do not have PMDD maybe this drug will backfire. I don't know. But for now, I am so grateful for Yaz.

I've been taking Lyrica for around 8 months for neurapathy in my lower legs and feet. Gez, I gained so much weight I fractured my right foot! It does help with the pain but after reading all this negativity I am going to ask for something else. I HAVE been having strange dreams, not very pleasant and I'm very happy I found out the reason. Thanks so much for all the great info everyone has given me!

I just went to the Dr. for my second Lupron injection and to get some help with the side effects. Menopausal/emotional me, started crying!!! Gawd! I went in with my list of side effects from the last 3 months (and it was long!) and wondered what was worse, the pain of endometriosis or the life changing side effects of Lupron. My Dr. is wonderful and spent an hour with me; he decided to put me on Provera (progesterone or add-back therapy) for a week to see if the side effects improve. If they do, I get my second dose of Lupron in a week. If not, we stop it all and let my body slowly try to get back to normal (although I have never known what "normal" is since endometriosis) and see how the "therapy" worked. He is strongly encouraging me to follow through with the 6 month course as that is the recommended length of time for the best results. I'm 5'8" and have lost 10 lbs. in the last three months, I'm down to 107 lbs. He told me to try and eat more if I could (although my nausea is constant 24hrs. a day) and make sure to take a daily vitamin and calcium for bone loss. He said that he has never heard of blurred vision to be a side effect of Lupron, "But every woman is effected differently." I'm really hoping the Provera works - any kind of relief is better than this! I'm still having 3-4 hotflashes every hour with extreme exhaustion/fatigue, night sweats, daily migraine headaches, nausea 24hrs. a day, life changing mood swings, and shaky hands. He kept reminding me that this only 6 months out of my life - it's not forever ... forever feels like an awful long time when you can barely get out of bed!

It is so funny to read all of the negativity but nothing positive! I came here looking for side effects and get a bashing about how horrid Yasmin/Yaz is! Let me first start off by listing my side effects that I wanted to know about:
breast tenderness
change in appetite
tiredness
red spot in eye
Next, let me tell you that I researched BEFORE taking this medicine because 1. I have MS 2. I suffer from migraines and seizures and 3. I take a whole boat load of medications! My doc recommended Yasmin for PMDD coupled with Sarafem to help my mood right before and during my time of the month. I must say that I have only been on it for about 10 days so I do not know anything of how it works with my period.
I am APPALLED at the fact that there are few, if any, positive comments about this pill! I know for a FACT that it works because I know 7 people personally that are on it that have NO PROBLEMS! So, I ask you all that have negative comments, what is wrong with you, other than you HATE the pill? What OTHER meds were you on while taking it? I read a few comments about stopping for a month and then starting again and then wondering why they felt like crap?? Well HELLO?! You are effing with your body's hormones! And there is a difference between Yaz and Yasmin hormones. If you had a bad experience with Yaz, make sure you are not confusing it with Yasmin! Yaz is a 24 day hormone pill where Yasmin is only 21 days.
I am not a doctor, but like I said, I have done my research. I have suffered with adult acne and PMDD for years. It sucks. If Yasmin helps, I want to know. I don't want to read a bunch of bull about people who mess up their cycles by taking the pill and smoking or taking the pill with meds they shouldn't be taking them with. I know what I can and cannot take. Most of what I take is natural and what is not, well, it CAN be taken with Yasmin. Like the website for Yasmin says and like most of the informational, non-biased websites say, Yasmin and Yaz is not for everyone. Some people cannot handle this type of hormone.
I can guarantee you that some doctor or pharm company can tell you that whatever symptom you are having is from something completely unrelated to the BC you are taking. Warnings are clearly marked...read them and obey!

I've noticed that NBC and The Weather Channel appear to be two of the biggest advertisers of Singulair. NBC can always be sure to have one on during the evening news, at least here where we live, on our local NBC channel. There for awhile, I was logging what time, and what channel I saw the ad. The ad only lists the basic side effects that aren't even dangerous. Merck must be paying NBC the big bucks because they still haven't dropped it. I don't know, should we bombard NBC with letters of negativity or boycott or something to get their attention on this murderous drug?

My son is 8 and he has been on singulair for at least three years, maybe four. When I heard about the side effects a few weeks ago, I stopped his medication right away. I have since learned that it should be tapered off, but won't put him back on to do that. He had so many of the depression, I hate myself, everybody hates me, facial tic, stomach ache symptoms . . . Now he is almost two weeks off of singulair and he is throwing screaming fits, kicking, threatening, uncontrollable for up to two hours and more! Is this a side effect of coming off of the medication? Has anyone else had this experience? Please email me at amy-weaver4@sbcglobal.net - I'd really like to hear if anyone else has experienced these symptoms. Thank you! Amy

Very Bad Experience.
I didn't want to take a BCP since I try to not put any medications in my body if I don't have to...now I remember why. This medication has had a very negative impact on my quality of life. I have extreme tenderness of my breasts, I am exhausted all the time, my periods are longer and fairly irregular, the cramping is very painful and more regular than before I took Yaz...but the worst thing is my moods. I'm irritable and anxious and crabby. I am critical of everything my boyfriend does even though he's a great guy. I am impatient and seem to find fault and negativity in everything around me where before it was 'glass half full'. The headaches and blurred vision doesn't help either. I'm going back to my old ways and would not recommend taking this bcp to anyone.

I found this website by mistake and OMG i think it was mean't for me to find this. I have a 7 year old who has been taking SINGULAIR for 2 years. I never pin-pointed his behavior to his medicines(Singulair,Zyrtec,Nasonex). I feel terrible if this is why he has been acting out the last couple of years. He has been disruptive, aggresive, doesn't follow directions, complains of stomache aches, wets the bed, says he doesnt feel good. He has trouble sitting still and blurts out answers in school. We trusted our PED and assumed he would give us any info on bad side affects. I wished I would have checked into the a long time ago I feel terrible if this is what has been causing all this negativity. He also has "bad dreams" and has circles under his eyes that his allergist always said was "allergic shiners". I stopped giving him SINGULAIR a week ago but I havent noticed any big changes.Could anyone tell me how long it takes for this medicine to get out of a 7 year olds body? Thanks a concerned mother....

I JUST started Loestrin 24 Fe (day one) and have been reading many articles and websites (anything from the literature in the research journals to the Mayo Clinic posts). I have just read through this entire site and took in all the feedback from the women who have shared the side effects. I have NEVER taken BC until now. I am trying it to keep monthly bleeding and mood swings to a minimum. BUT, I see some serious side effects (depression, acne, weight gain) - these seem worse than just dealing with the monthly symptoms and taking some pain relievers.
Should I STOP? Any advice from veteran birth control users?

Hello all.. I had posted after being on Yasmin for about a week and now I am into my second month. Last post I reported no side effects whatsoever and now I can say my first period ever on birth control (20 yrs old) was perfectly manageable, 5 days and pretty well painless. Still no weight gain or loss and no change in personality, if anything I'm a little happier because I am not so constantly irritated by my own menstrual unpredictability lol. The only thing I can say that has changed since taking the pill is the appearance of cystic acne... I used to encounter one of this type now and again but in the past few weeks they've been coming in the night, 2 or 3 at a time, usually chin and forehead. Yikes. Definitely a major annoyance but for anyone else who is experiencing this.. I have always found my skin's saving grace to be TEA TREE OIL!!! Love it. I wash every day with a bar of soap called Thursday Plantation and it is amazing (especially if you leave a bit of soap on as a kind of spot treatment overnight). Anyway it continues to be extremely helpful in managing this annoying side effect so that I can enjoy the benefits of a regular period and no pms or cramps, oh and no babies. lol. Good luck to everyone, and remember do your research but don't let all the negativity scare you away from something that could be good for you, because everyone is different. Glad to see some positive posts here this time tho! I will return again myself if anything changes :) xo

I was on the patch for a year and a half. The only reason I stopped being on the patch was because my insurance got cancled.lol. But when I got new insurance I decided to get a different birth control because of all the negativity surrounding the patch. It was great for me though. No real side effects, it eased my Menstral cramps drastically to the point where I did not even need pain killers for the cramps! After a while the only other thing I began to not like about the patch is the fact that it was exterior...and because of the site on which I wore my patch (my buttocks) I thought it made my sexy lingerie pieces look a little off...sort off like a big band aid on the ass when I had on cute thong. But anyway I loved it for the most part. So ppl if you are on it and it does not really effect you and you like it then keep it!

I am completely heart broken to hear all this negativity about Yasmin. I had been on it for 5 years. I did the patch for about 6 months and Seasonale for 3 months in between. I hated both. Seasonale made me have the worst migranes and a period that lasted a full two months....STRAIGHT! I never had a problem with Yasmin except for feeling nauseated when i started a new pack after a period. I got off of Yasmin in December to help regulate my body. I'm getting married next and hope to conceive quickly after. I started a period normally after I got off my last pack. But, I had not sign of a period afterwards. After stressing for two months I called the doctor. They did a blood pregnancy test on me and everything was negative. He started me on Provera to start a period. I took it for 10 days and 4 days later I got a period. I am so upset and nervous that I will not be able to start a period normally and ovulate normally. All I want is to become pregnant. I feel like I really messed up by taking Yasmin now that I read all of your stories. I really hope I start a period naturally next month. This way I know that I'm ovulating. If anyone else has had this problem and started their period naturally again or even gotten pregnant after this problem please let me know. I really need the reassurance. By the way...my sex drive completely went away after stopping. Now that it's been almost 4 months and I'm back to normal in that department!! Thank God!!

Well, I'm back to report what is going on with me since going off of Aviane. I posted on July 25th 2009.
I am 100% better since I've stopped the Aviane pill! YAY! My negativity is gone, anxiety is gone, my weight gain has stopped. I no longer feel bloated or insecure about myself. No more spotting, no more night waking, no more depression and I'm not exhausted anymore. I have to say I finally feel like myself again-thankfully. This pill was definitely not for me.
Thanks again to all those who posted :)
