I just got prescribed this med and am now scared to death to even try it. I am taking it because I have High Protein in my Urine and will be getting kidney biopsy in week sor so after a few 24 hour union tests that never improved. Has anyone had anything good come from taking Lisinopril. I don't know what to do now. Help!

okay people...I have been on Lisinopril for 5 years now with every side effect
you can think of...rashes, lethargic, severe depression, weight gain, pain in legs, back, arms, neck.
I am also a diabetic w/ nephritis (protein in kidneys)
I used to take cozaar, but insurance doesn't pay for that so now I take 20 mg lisinopril.
I am going to ask my doctor to chg my meds...this is ridiculous.

I would rather die than take Prednisone. I was on 90mg a day for a month and a half for my kidney (Nephritis). It was saving the kidneys which are now at 20% but here is what else.
my eyes are screwed up-sticky, blurry. I shake, can't sleep, developed wierd large water type blisters, I cramp, I was angry as hell, at everyone. My thyroid went crazy, I developed painful blood clots. Awful medicine. I would rather go into kidney failure than extend the life of my kidneys at the expense of everything else.

Hey Heather, I was wondering if they told you what kind of Nephritis it is because from the discreption, I think it's the same as me, I'm only 15 though, it's pretty tough, wining is apart of it because what else can you do, I stopped wining because theres not much anyone can do. Anyways I was on 60mg a day for abour three months instead of just one and I had a biopsy too, they ten weaned me down VERY SLOWLY, felt like forever, then I came down to 30mg every other day, it's been 8 months and I went back for another biopsy and they said its safe to go down to 25mg now, I hope it makes a difference, but You should tell your husband that he would be really lucky if they wean him off, and the moon face will come down faster than you think, they weght gain also, but he has to remember that some of the weight gain is due to the fluid that the prednisone makes you retain, and yes the duritics(waterpills) will make you feel less puffy but it doesn't do much, the most effective way to lose the fluid is by IV. Its a good idea that you be there for him, because you change so fast in such a small time, it'll take awhile for him to get his self esteem and confidence back, but it's all with time. Keep you head up.

MY HUSBAND WAS RETAINING ALOT OF WATER IN HIS LEGS AND VERY WEAK. THE DOCTOR HAD DONE A NUMBER OF TESTS ON HIM TO FIND OUT THAT HE HAS NEPHRITIS AND WAS LOSING 8,500 MG OF PROTEIN IN URINE A DAY (NORMAL IS 100-200 MG PER DAY), AND COLESTEROL WAS AT 400. HE WAS PUT ON PREDNIZONE AND ALSO HAD A KIDNEY BIOPSY. WE WERE MARRIED 1 WEEK PROIR TO HIM BEING PUT ON PREDNIZONE AND IT HAS BEEN PRETTY TOUGH TO DEAL WITH. HE WOULD COMPLAIN OF ALL THE SAME SYMPTONS, WEAKNESS, BACK PAIN, NAUSEA, BLACK OUTS, MAJOR WEIGHT GAIN, AND CRAMPS THAT WOULD KNOCK HIM ON THE GROUND. I NEVER REALIZED PREDNIZONE WAS SO BAD. I FEEL ALOT OF GUILT BECAUSE I WOULD SAY OH, IT CAN'T BE THAT BAD. I FEEL HORRIBLE NOW READING ALL OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS. HE HAS ABOUT 1 MONTH TO GO WITH 60 MG OF PREDNIZONE A DAY AND WATER PILLS.

I have been on and off prednisone for about 4 years now. I was first daignosed with ulcerative colitis when i was 17 and took doses ranging from 15 to 50mg at its worst. I was also on immuran for treatment of UC. About 5 months ago i suffered acute renal failure and was diagnosed with nephritis minimal change. I was initially on 80mg a day and slowly weened off no getting down to 25mg and continuing to lower the doaage. Also on cyclosporine and a host of other drugs to combat the side effects of prdnisone. I sympathise with anyone who has to take the aweful drug. I have experienced just about all of the side effects mentioned on this forum. It is a debilitating drug not only physically and phsycologically but very much emotionally too. If anyone wants to talk. Please e-mail me. It is had to talk to people who dont know what you are going through and have been through.
