I'm 15 years old and i've been taking prednisone for a few months, and from what i've read i'm on a really high dose. i was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and another autoimmune disorder concerning my muscles at the same time. my doctor told me prednisone was my only choice; it was either that or i would lose the ability to walk. he told me there'd be side effects, but i had no idea it'd turn out like this or i would have fought harder for another course of action. i started out on 30mg twice a day, and since then was weaned down to 20mg twice a day and now i'm down to 30mg once a day. i've been looking up a bunch of information trying to figure out if there's a way to lessen the side effects or any hope at all that they will get better. apparently there isn't much. after reading a bunch of these stories i gotta say i'm not feeling great about this. i totally understand everything everyone is going through. i'm sure you can imagine what it's like being smack in the middle of high school with a huge puffy face, acne so bad on my face, chest, back, neck, and shoulders that wearing a bra could put me in tears, and mood swings so bad i've lost friends over it. everyone knows how brutal high school can be, where appearance and attitude are everything. and i try to tell my doctor about it and he literally looks at me like i'm a whiny teenager and says "you're just going to have to deal with it." and people like my mom and my closest friends don't get it either. nobody understands how beyond frustrating it is. i'll get into the worst moods and not have a reason for it, but i'll stay angry for hours or burst into tears over someone looking at me the wrong way. it'll get to the point where i have to isolate myself from other people because the abrubt mood changes get so bad. as bad as i hate to admit it, the pain from the arthritis is gone now and supposedly my muscles are doing better too. developing arthritis caused me to have to quit cheerleading, something i've loved doing for 6 years, because the pain got to the point where i couldn't get my arms above my head or bend my knees. however, i'd almost rather deal with the horrible joint pain than deal with the side effects of prednisone. if your doctor gives you and alternative method, take it. i've always been confident in the way i look and really outgoing and happy and now i sometimes catch myself thinking about suicide. that's shocking to me because i've got so much going for me, but this medicine makes me miserable. and when i complain about it, anyone i'm talking to just looks at me like i'm being a cry baby. my mom does too, she'll say things like "you just have to do this. i know it's not what you want but to be honest i'm sick of hearing you bitch about it."
i feel a little better knowing other people feel the same way - like nobody gets whats going on with them. the prednisone does give me days of really great euphoria and days when i feel like i could run a marathon, but waking up in the morning to the acne and huge face puts me to tears every day. i have to pee all the time, usually getting up at 2 or 3 am. i don't sleep well anymore and i do sweat all the time. which also sucks being a teenage girl. i'm always hungry, and when i eat i never feel full so i don't know when to stop. my neck and face have put on so much weight that when people see me in the halls or out and about they ask me what happened. mind you these are people i don't talk to, just ones i know from classes or whatever. and it's pretty bad when teenage boys i've never really talked to ask what happened to your face. kind of a blow to the ego, or whatever is left of it at this point.
i'd like to know if, as my dosage gets lowered, the side effects will diminish and when i'm off the prednisone completely if they will disappear altogether. any help there?
or if there is any way to help the acne or puffy face

my doctor just put me on something called methotrexate or something like that to help wean me off the prednisone, and does anyone know what those side effects will do? or if they'll affect the prednisone side effects?
i'm constantly obsessing over gaining weight and what my skin looks like and what i eat and how heavy my face feels and the occasional pressure in my eyes to the point where i just want to be put out of my misery.
and after reading other people's stories i really don't understand why this drug is still given out as freely as it is. but maybe all doctors are like mine, they just don't get it.
best of luck to anyone who's on prednisone, my heart goes out to you; i'm right there with you
sorry this became like a book it wasn't meant to be this long

I have been taking Aciphex for about a month when suddenly I started have terrible stomach pains, severe diarrhea, and extreme exhaustion. The exhaustion was so extreme I was sleeping for 2-3 hours a day, not even planning a nap, just crashing on a couch.
I feel bloated and my mouth is dry and feels metallic..in short I felt plain awful!
I thought I was fighting off a stomach flu, but it did not feel "fluish"..I then had one of those light bulb moments..this was the only new medicine I have added to my regular regime.
I am stopping this drug immediately..will let you know if my instinct is on target.

I started Zoloft after my cat died (we put him to sleep & it was a terrible experience) and I had started having panic attacks. My doctor talked me into it despite my reluctance. After 4 days (with side effects of dizziness & mild nausea) I became violently ill during the night. I had started another unrelated medication with it and he assumed it was to blame, so he told me to come off both meds for a couple days, then start back on the zoloft. I did this and again 4 days later became violently ill. He acted annoyed with me and told me to stop taking it, he offered me another antidepressant to start after a few days. Well I waited to feel better, and waited and waited. Called him 3 weeks later to complain about the nausea/stomach upset. He told me to stop taking the new medicine- which I then told him I had never started b/c I was still too sick. He gave me an antacid and didn't give it a second thought. Then weeks later (still sick most all the time) I drank one beer and became violently ill once again. I went to see him immediately and got a pregnancy test (negative) and more antacids. My husband saw him later for a cold or something and when he mentioned my name my doctor became hostile. I am waiting to get an appointment with a new doctor, but now it has been 5 months and I'm still sick every day. I can't drink caffeine, or take any vitamins/ supplements for energy b/c I become so ill when I do. I was fine until I took the Zoloft. I can't find any other mention of something like this on the internet, but it seems so obvious that it started exactly when I started the Zoloft, I can't just dismiss it as a coincidence like my doctor seems to. Besides that he has done nothing to find out what this mysterious illness is or to stop it.

Today I went to the minor emergency clinic locally and I was given 10 day samples of Avalox. My throat is very raw and I was sick, but didn't have a fever and I was welcoming the medications given to me, because I felt so sick. BUT... after leaving the doctor's office we went through a drive through to get lunch and continued across the street to go shopping for winter coats when I decided to take my new medicine with my food and water. Immediately, in less than five minutes I felt like throwing up, and I felt very very dizzy and weak. I almost couldn't get out of the car my head felt so thick and foggy. When we walked in the store, my husband had to hold onto me because I felt as if my equilibrium was off. I just felt so dizzy, we didn't even get to do the shopping. When we got back in the car I fell asleep right away and I remember thinking to myself in my sleep that I felt a huge tremendous pressure around my skull as if someone was squeezing it. But I was so tired I thought, well if my head explodes, that's ok I'm too tired to tell my husband. Now that sounds downright nuts, who thinks like that in their sleep? I was basically too drained to cry for help. I called the doctor's office to tell them about my reaction and they said that was definitely the antibiotic, not the allergy medicine and that if it continues when I take the pill tomorrow to call them.I'm asking for a Z Pack. I am glad I found this website, I feel it could have saved my life! I would have probably followed their advise. I am going to give them this link so they can read for themselves!

I have only been on Lisinopril for about a
week and I knew right away that this drug
is not for me. I am experiencing palpitations,
anxiety, nausea, numbness in my right forearm and I wake up at night with my heart
beating like a drum. I can see I'm not the only one experiencing these awful side effects. I need a new medicine for blood pressure with no side effects or at least minimal side effects I can live with. I was
taking atenolol to start with but that gave me
hives! I'm open to suggestions!

I am a 56 year old woman who has been taking lisinopril for over 5 years! I have been taken by ambulance to the er and have fainted several times. Also experienced hives for months at a time and severe muscle weakness. The pins and needles feelings i could live with until it felt like someone was sticking me with a knife! I visited a heart dr. last week and he told me to immediately get off this medicine. I will go back and see him tomorrow and will be switched to a new medicine. I wish I had found this forum sooner. 1. Blood Pressure 180/120 resulting in an emergency room trip
2. Weight gain of 25 POUNDS! Most/all of which was water and came off within the first week of being off from Yasmin.
3. Bloating and extreme water retention. See # 2.
4. Severe leg muscle cramping and foot pain
5. A mental feeling of not caring and general fogginess
6. Complete loss of libido
7. Acid reflux (probably from the diuretic in Yasmin)
8. General weakness in my muscles (there were times that I could barely open a revolving door).

I was on Yasmin for a year. I have been off for one month. I am still on blood pressure meds, but they don't think the Yasmin is out of my system. Has anyone else gotten hypertension from Yasmin and if so, how long did you have to be on blood pressure meds?

Some of my symptoms are getting better after a month, and some are not. If anyone is reading this to decide whether or not to take Yasmin, please don't. You may not have any symptoms right away and you may think you feel great, but that is the scariest part. When symptoms come on gradually, you hardly notice them until you are in the hospital emergency room.

I was recently switched from Toprol XL to the generic form of Norvasc. I have been on it for a little over a month now. I am feeling less tired although i do notice more frequent headaches and some constipation. I don't have any swelling yet but I haven't been on this medicine that long. But I am 2 weeks late with my period and am wondering if this new medicine has something to do with it. I have fertility issues so pregnancy is unlikely although not impossible. Has any other women had any other similar experiences.?I was never late or missed a period and now this is freaking me out.

My beautiful 11 year old daughter was on Adderall XR 20 mg per day for 4 years. After about 2 years she started to develop some minor facial tics. After 3 years the facial tics were worse along with severe head shaking and she also started to develop trichotillomania (obsessive compulsive hair pulling). The hair pulling continued until she was almost bald. Her grades began to drop and she withdrew herself from her friends and family. Finally, we took her off the medication in October 2007 at age 12 and she immediately stopped the tics and hair pulling. We have found 3 other families whose daughters have developed these same symptoms after being on this medication for at least 2 years. We have filed a report with the FDA as our own doctor had no idea that this medication was causing the hair pulling. Now 5 months later her hair is growing and the tics are approximately 97% gone. We have taken her to a homeopathic doctor and she is doing absolutely great now. Marks have gone up and she is smiling and socializing. I am so happy we have our daughter back. The side effects of this drug was definitely not work it.

I took Reglan for two days 14 years ago. The second evening I became extremely jittery and had involuntary movement of my arms and legs that I could not stop.I was not able to sleep either. Since this was the only new medicine that was prescribed, I immediately stopped taking it. Fourteen years later I still battle with insomnia. It started abruptly that night. THIS MEDICINE IS DANGEROUS!!! PLEASE STOP TAKING IT IF YOU ARE ON IT!!!!!!

I started having extreme pain in my shoulder. Then in my hip and lower back. Then one day I was fifty miles from home and I had extreme pain in my stomach and back. The pain was so bad I couldn't hardly drive. I had to call someone to come and pick me up and take me to a doctor.
I was given a pain shot and an antibiotic shot. He said my white blood cell count was pretty high. The pain shot did nothing for me.I've been given a round of antibiotics, Z pack, inflammation tablets, and muscle relaxers.
The pain has eased up a little, but the pain is still pretty bad. The doctor wanted to know if I had started a new medicine recently. The only new medicine I was taking is Vytorin. I had also had chest pains. I had no idea that any of these pains had anything to do with each other.
To me Vytorin has been a nightmare.
My whole Christmas was ruined because I was in extreme pain.

My new GP prescribed Singulair as a "better alternative" to manage my asthma on last Friday. Becuase this is generally my "bad season", I didn't think anything of it and was grateful for something else to try. It was not until last night (Monday), after staying home from work feeling like I got run over by a truck that it occurred to me to re-check the side effects of this new medicine. I have terrible muscle aches, headaches, shortness of breath, and extreme fatigue. I am going back to my GP on tomorrow, and am throwing the rest of this stuff in the trash!

This may be long, but please bare with me. My mother married and moved away 14 years ago. Before that she had one bypass surgery, and then shortly after marrying another. Sometime in the late 90s she was put on the drug Lipitor. She told me at that time that the new medicine was effecting her memory. My response was stop taking it! Due to the long distance apart and caring for my family I forgot about it. She began experiencing more memory loss and cognitive deficits and we were led to believe it was the beginning of Alzheimer's. Then in 2001 I read an article by Dr. Duane Graveline M.D. who said that Lipitor causes memory loss and other symptoms. I became alarmed and called to talk to my step sister who was helping my Mom and her Dad though living apart, and who was seeing that my Mom took her medicines. She informed me that a new cardiologist my mom had seen recently then had taken her off the Lipitor because of studies done that he was aware of, so I was relieved, but her brain deficits worsened gradually. Now she is living with me (and her husband) and she has worsened so that she cannot function without guidance and directions in everything. I oversee her medicine now and have discovered she is on Metoprolol though she has not had a history of high blood pressure. She must have been put on this shortly after being taken off the Lipitor but by another doctor who put a stent in. Some possible side effects are in essence dementia symptoms and I am convinced that my Mom's Alheimer's/dementia is drug induced. I am very upset about this and hope to convince my doctor who will be her attending physician that this is a real possibility and that it may be reversed if she is weaned off this drug. I will keep you posted.

My 32 m.o. daughter had a mucous-y cough for about a year. Then I noticed that her cough was worse when she lays down at night, and after jumping on the trampoline. I (her mom) have asthma, and it runs all through our family. After a bout of the flu early January, where she was hopitalized for 2 days, I talked with her pediatrician about the "asthma-like" qualities she is showing. Dr. prescribed zyrtec along with 4 mg of singulair at bedtime, with a follow up 3 weeks later. Also prescribed ventolin with a spacer, which we havent had to use yet. (I use inhalers regularly.) We followed up with the Dr, and I told her that her cough is pretty much gone now. So we stopped the zyrtec and are on singulair for a few months. The thing is, I have noticed that she is more aggressive and more irritable than her normal self. I dont know whether to attribute it to the "terrible-two's" or the new medicine. She always wants to hit someone or something. And yes, I notice that her night-time sleep patterns are different. She falls asleep great, but she wakes up in the middle of the night (3 or 4 am) and has a hard time gonig back to sleep. It is the agressive behavior that has me worried, because she does not want to listen or be told what to do, and she is hitting other kids at her pre-school. After reading the comments frmo other Moms below, I gues it acutally could be the medicine and not the terrible-two's!

I took topamax for about a year. I was slowly up to 200mg a day.I had a period for 28 days. I was 44 than, my normal cycle last 1 to 2 days.I ask my nero about it and he said it couldn't be the medicine. I talk to my family doctor, we lowered the does by 25 mg and my periods went back to normal. During this time, looking back now at what others saw I went through many personality changes. But I figured my headaches were gone, I was losing weight life was great. And than I started getting shortness of breath it was gradual and than it became severe. I seen so many doctors for almost a year. I had several test done was told I had pulmonary hypertension, told I had a Paient foreman ovale.
This was all new, I had an echo 3 years prior. I ask every doctor I seen could topamax cause this they said no. I finally got sick of going to the doctors , I quit going ,I also stopped taking topamax and guess what I can breath again. I have no pulmonary hypertension but the PFO remains. I am now afraid to take any new medicine. I would rather have headaches, my friends and family say I am back to myself and I feel so much better. I wish I would have listen to myself when I started questioning could it be the medicine. This medicine may work great for some, but my family and I went through hell. I truely thought I would not see my kids grow up.

I have been taking lisinopril for about two months. Shortly after I started taking it, I noticed a dry, annoying cough. As it was winter time, I didn't worry about it too much. Several people had been sick with coughs and colds. I did notice, however, that it kept getting worse. I mentioned it to the doctor during a routine checkup. She checked my lungs and throat, and said that it was most likely allergies, and that my lungs were clear. I would wake up during the night, coughing so hard I would almost vomit. My throat felt like it had something caught in it, and would occasionally be swollen. Two night ago the symptoms got so bad, I felt like I was suffocating. I also experienced minor joint pains, and thought that was from the flu.

I called the doctor, and they said that these were side effects of lisinopril, and they called in a different prescription for an alternative blood pressure medicine. When I went to the pharmacy to pick up the new medicine, I mentioned to the pharmacist that I was allergic to the lisinopril. She said that the same thing had happened to her, with the coughing, etc.

I would avoid this medication at all costs, or at least stay on top of things with the doctor and report any side effects of the coughing. Don't let them just tell you its allergies ..... it is allergies, but it was the pills that I was allergic to. (As a side note, this is the only medication in 50 years that I have developed a reaction to ...... ).

My physician prescribed Paxil for me over 7 years ago, the side effects were dry mouth and felt a bit sleepy most of the time. The good part was I did not have any anxiety or panic attacks. Then, about 5 years ago the doctor changed my medication to Celexa. With Celexa I still had the dry mouth, but felt more awake and less sleepy. Then about 2 years ago the new drug Lexapro came out. My doctor changed my medication to Lexapro and in doing so cut my dosage in half. I still have the dry mouth side effect but I do not feel the slightest bit drowsey or sleepy with the new medicine. I have to say each time my doctor changed my medicine it was an improvement over the last one. I feel the side effects were a minor compromise to being rid of my Anxiety and Panic attacks. You have to weigh the benefits that you receive from the medication against the side effects you are experiencing. In other words which is worse? I am Anxiety and Panic Attack free because of this medication and I thank God for it, or should I say I thank God for giving man the wisdom and knowledge to be able to create this medication.

I just started taking Lisinopril about 1 week ago and I have felt like crap all week. I'm a healthy 47 year old male and have been taking 10mg of Bisoprolol for high blood pressure for the last couple of years and have had no side effects whatsoever. But my doctor felt that my blood pressure still needed some improvement so he added Lisinopril. However after taking lisinopril there have been 3 times where my chest has felt tight and my lungs would feel like they were closing up and I couldn't take a deep breath, needless to say this made me feel very panicy. When this happened the first time (two days after taking this new medicine) I thought I was having an anxiety attack because i have suffered off and on from anxiety disorder for over 20 years, so I breathed into a paper bag and I calmed down and the anxiety went away, but that has happened 2 more times since then and it has been about 11 years since an anxiety attack was so bad that I actually had to breath into a paper bag. I have also experienced quite a bit of dizziness and blurry vision too!, the dizziness when I kneal down and then stand up. Also I have had lower back pain, dry mouth, a dry cough that is caused by a tickle in my throat. I have also felt a little nausea and I was very interested to read on this site about a few people who have had a loss of taste, today was Thanksgiving and I thought my food tasted rather tasteless and this surprised me because my wife is a very good cook and her Thanksgiving dinners are always very tastey! I have had a lot of acid reflux which I used to have on and off once and awhile before but after taking lisinopril it is much more frequent. All I know is that I felt fine before I started taking lisinopril and I'm calling my doctor and telling him that I'm not taking this garbage anymore! I am going to continue to take my bisoprolol which hasn't given me any side effects over the last 2 years, maybe my doctor will just increase my dosage, why he didn't just do this in the first place I don't know, but I'M DONE WITH LISINOPRIL! I'm glad to have found this website and I totally sympathize with everyone who has had all these bad side effects with this drug. Good luck to you all!

Okay I was put on Yasmin for PCOS PolypCystic Ovary Syndrome. I started it 2 weeks and 4 days ago.
I now realize that since starting this pill, I have become depressed & feel really drained of energy, sometimes short of breath, & light-headed. I also get these painful headaches that don't go away for a long time! I am tired ALL the time. I tend to just fall asleep whenever or whereever sometimes! I have really really really bad cramps that I feel I could bend a steel bar if given one! My lower back is hurting really bad when I have cramps. I am supposed to skip the sugar pills and continue taking another box instead of the regular use of the pills. I am going to call the doctor tomorrow and demand a new prescription! I can't handle the pain anymore! I had to step down from my job from it! Now that I have read some of the other women's comments and my Husband has too he agrees in calling the doctor for new medicine.
