I started taking nuvaring because it worked well for my sister and my husband and I are not ready for kids. I've only been on it for 6 months but i've had all sorts of issues, like chest pain, feeling very negative and just sad for no reason. Hair loss (i wouldn't have even thought to put that on if it weren't for this site) weight gain which i thought was because im a newlywed.... and no sex drive (which has been devastating as newlyweds are supposed to really enjoy themselves) I already didn't like or trust medication and this has just made it worse. My sister has had hers out for 5-6 months and has been rendered infertile because of nuvaring, shes very healthy too! and she wants another baby! I took it out about a week ago (for good) but it was earlier than i should have according to the calender and I've been a wreck. I've always had bad cramps (runs in the family) like the type that you literally cant stand from, but today its been so bad i felt like i was gonna throw up and had to go home from work. This is ridiculous for my body to react to negatively!! My sister is now trying a natural birth control method that is more scientific than the normal chart that tells you when your fertile and when your not. Im waiting for the book to show up, its called "Taking Control of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler" Which involves taking your temperature every morning and charting yourself every day, checking your cervix, as it moves up and down based on weather or not your fertile. Then you know when you should use a condom (since im not fond of them all the time) and when you are infertile. Its not for everyone since it isn't easy, but im not willing to mess my body up anymore, i want my energy back, my body back, and my sex drive and if i have to sacrifice 5 minutes a day to do it I WILL!!

I started at the end of June. And I started having symptoms during sex similar to the only time i have had yeast infection...never made the connection either - glad I'm not the only one. I also had the burning, really really painful feelings during and after sex and it burned so bad when I had to use the bathroom. Sometimes I was nearly in tears. I just chalked it up to us having sex so much. (we were newlyweds and living together full time for the first time) Now I wonder if it wasn't the ring, but I'll have to wait til May to find out cuz he is deployed! :P :( Definitely not going and refilling the prescription though I don't think - and will definitely be making a doctor's appointment with a good gyn to find out my alternatives (like some of y'all I have a finicky body when it comes to hormones)

I had Mirena inserted September 15th. I had it removed October 21 because of all the horrendous side effects. I gained 7 lbs, became unbearably cranky and irritable. I lost my sex drive and fought with my husband constantly. We're newlyweds and he's perfect, and we had never fought before. My lower abdomen was always aching- if not full on cramping. I was always tired, even if I had just had 8 hours of sleep. It hasn't even been a week since its been out, and all the side effects are gone. The removal is painless- or about as painless as a speculum insertion can actually be. I recommend that anyone having these side effects get it removed immediately!

I am so relieved that I'm not crazy! I started using NuvaRing after rave reviews from my girlfriends. I loved the patch but thought their was no harm in trying something different. After 2 weeks I've thrown in the hat after reading all of your side effects. I have been so depressed! I couldn't imagine wanting to have sex ( we are newlyweds so this is weird!). I had terrible bloating and cramping. I really thought it might have been what I was eating. After really cleaning up my diet I thought something was up. Thanks so all your postings! Hopefully I will get back to the spunky girl I was 2 weeks ago!

I just had my mirena removed after 4 1/2 years in hopes of becoming pregnant. I can't say that I had any complaints about the mirena while it was in, I didn't have any periods ever, I only had mild cramps every 2 months or so, and I didn't notice my mood being affected. However, after having it out for about 3 weeks now, I notice I have increased energy in general and overall I am feeling "better", even though I didn't realize I wasn't feeling great before. The most astonishing thing is my increased sex drive...I'm sure my husband isn't complaining but its like we are newlyweds again! I didn't realize how much my libido had dropped off. I honestly don't think I will ever do a birth control with hormones again, I feel like great now and I don't want to ruin it with artificial hormones anymore.
