I was put on Yaz because of my severe PMS. After nine days I started getting very strong symptoms, many the very symptoms I started taking Yaz for in the first place. It was too early in the cycle to be the "regular" PMS. Many of the symptoms I listed below I get regularly but not as strongly, and they have not been remotely this bad for years. I stopped taking Yaz after freaking out for 48 hours. I was told to stay on them for at least 3 months, as a trial, and I was really motivated because I really suffer from my PMS - almost every month I feel like I get into a depression - but there is no chance in the world I will continue taking that pill.

Wow. I had Mirena insertedin March 2009, following two years of horrible periods following my third c-section. I would have a heavy period for an average of 10 days, then get two weeks off and start again. They originally tried giving me Depo Provera - BAD! I was losing blood clots the size of my fist for three months!
At first Mirena seemed ideal, though I don't need birth control - I had a tubal ligation with my c-section. The periods were just awful! They inserted the mirena during a D&C and hysteroscopy because I also had uterine polyps. My hair is falling out (my thyroid has been checked, thank you);I have acne on my face and back; I am growing hair on my face; I am irritable; my back hurts; I am bloated; I am gaining weight even though I am on a reduced calorie diet, gave up drinking wine AND run two miles a day; I have yeast infections; sex hurts and I bleed nearly every time I have sex; I have a low sex drive now; I bleed when I exercise or go for a walk; I have ruined every pair of panties I own, and I am still having 14 day long periods. No longer heavy periods, but 14 days of bleeding, then nine days off before starting again!
I had a doctor's appointment yesterday and told him all of this: his responses were that the spotting and irregular periods are likely for the FIRST YEAR (WHICH IS NOT IN THE FINE PRINT INCLUDED WITH THE MEDICATION!!!) and that doctors can't find or treat the cause of heavy periods and bleeding, only treat the symptoms.
We need to band together to demand that women's health issues are taken seriously. It is not acceptable to have a doctor say that the cause of these problems doesn't matter. Treating the cause should be the primary goal, not peddling drugs or covering up symptoms! The New York Times ran an article yesterday recommending Mirena as a solution to heavy bleeding in women! This is not a solution. And neither is a hysterectomy - I am only 31.

Ok I got the Mirena about 2 years ago, and its been hell from the moment I got the thing put in. Ive never been that much of a bitch but once I had the Mirena put in, i started constantly bitching. I ended up thinking I fell out of love with my daughters father, left him, and screwed things up all because of my hormone levels right after I got the mirena put in. Finally about a year after I had the mirena put in, my hormone levels finally started to go back to normal. But i still had about 10 pounds that I could not loose. Now its been two years and I have still not been able to get the weight off, and I also have a LOT of pain during sex. About three weeks ago I got my period (which is usually light and no more than 3 days long) and it lasted for NINE DAYS. Then I had sex about two weeks later, then the next day I got my period AGAIN for another FIVE days! After that period was finally over I felt so light headed and sick i almost passed out,I called my doctor.. She said that it sounded like the mirena was making me anemic. So im getting this damn thing taken out next week and I am SO excited not to have the bad cramps, no more mood swings, and to be able to loose the rest of this weight. THANK GOD. o btw if anybody's insurance doesn't cover taking the mirena out, go to planned parenthood. It only costs 85 dollars!

Have had two back to back ER visits because of severe hives on Buproprion (generic wellbutrin). Had been taking it for a little over two weeks. Was told that the wellbutrin couldn't be the cause (is the only drug I was taking) and it must be due to my CHRISTMAS TREE...uh-huh. But I'm a good sport, kept taking the drug even on the day I was in the ER. Hives go down by the first evening but after a shot of benadryl and steroids which knocks me out for the rest of the day. Next day I take oral benadryl, clariton, prescribed steroids, and use hydrocortizone cream (all recommended in ER), new hives but little...end of day, can barely walk because feet and thighs are one big hive. Ears, mouth, shoulders, arms, in between fingers....hives. BACK to the ER (lovely Christmas eve) and am told by a new Doc that it was stupid to keep taking the buproprion. This time more shots don't help. The hives keep coming for several more hours. It's the next day and they have gone down some but were so bad that I have been left with dark bruises in various locations. Yuck.
I had had some initial side effects that were pretty mild and all went away after the first nine days (insomnia, headache, dry mouth) but I will not be waiting to see if my airway stops constricting after a few more days of treatment. So...ouch.

Hey there,
I have been taking Doxy now for almost 10 days for Erlichia. (a form of lyme disease) It is a strong drug! I take 100mg twice a day. I get terrible diarrhea, stomach cramps, and nausea. Starting yesterday after being on it for nine days I started getting really bad heartburn, indigestion. I only got heartburn when I was pregnant so I know it's the Doxy. I didn't eat anything out of the ordinary, It kept me up all last night. Thank god tomorrow I take my last pill. I read a lot of posts and feel so sorry for the people having panic attacks and depression. It really makes it difficult for us to take something that is suppose to make us better, but can is actually making us feel sicker!!

I have been on the Nuvaring for nine days now. As my doctor instructed, I put it in the day I started my period. I am still bleeding with no signs of stopping. It's not heavy, but I am a bit worried. I have been feeling a little depressed lately and I feel like I want to cry for no reason. I'm not putting the Nuvaring down, I'm just worried about the length of my period. This is my first time using any kind of birth control so this is all new to me. If anyone has any information for me, that would be great.

I was on Yasmin for about 4 years, then stopped due to no health insurance (couldn't afford it anymore). I was off Yasmin for 4 months, started it up again now that I have a new job, and man- I HATE being back on this pill. Now that my body had a break, I can tell what this pill does/did- I've taken about nine pills and have already called my doc to go right back in and get a Paraguard IUD, because now that I know what "normal" feels like there is no way I can go back to this pill! Extremely tired again/feel run down all the time (since day 2 back on), nauseous (continual), dry eyes/vagina (after 2-3 days back on), sex drive ebbing off again (after nine days back on)... also strange when I read people's posts, my knees/hip used to crack (pop) all the time and it's started up again within one week of this damn pill. A big clump of my hair fell out yesterday too!!! I can only tell you how I FEEL- there is something NOT right in my body with Yasmin back in the mix. I felt awesome for four months sans pill (sex drive came back with a vengeance, forgot how it felt to feel aroused, feel lubricated, feel energy, feel happy go lucky) then Yasmin- now this crap has got to go!!! I'm so turned off by this eye-opener (thankful though, at least now I know what I put myself through for four years). I'll go with an IUD to avoid hormones from now on. Trust yourselves ladies, if it doesn't feel right, it might be bad for you! Good luck ladies!!!!

I am 44 and started taking Femcon nine days ago to regulate my periods and stop break through bleeding. It did it's part there--but I have gained five pounds in nine days! Five! Everything I own is tight. Also I have been unable to sleep. My whole body feels tense and I cannot drift off. I think I am going to stop taking this pill immediately. I'd rather bleed than gain one more pound!

I am so glad that I found this website, because I thought all of this was just me! Nine days ago, I was prescribed 750mg of Levaquin/once a day for 14 days. I was just about to take today's dose but after reading only page 1 on this site, will NOT be taking the 9th dose, nor will I be taking any more of this stuff at all! Mine all started with a toothache a few weeks ago, and ended up in the ENT's office with the above prescription with a CT-Sinus scan after 14 days of being on Levaquin. I always read the side effects of any prescription that I'm given, and I was aware that Levaquin could cause ruptured tendons so I've been very methodical with every move that I make...my husband had a ruptured achilles tendon a couple of years ago and that's the LAST thing I want to go through. However, after reading this site, I now understand that all of the other symptoms that I've been experiencing over the last several days are most definitely side effects of Levaquin that they aren't admitting to. Plus, it doesn't seem to appear that being cautious about how you move makes much of a difference when you're taking this stuff. Metallic taste in my mouth; Thrush and a lack of having full taste; swollen knees, extremely sore and aching legs, hips, and back/neck area; nausea; jittery spells very shortly after taking the medicine; hot, then cold spells...everything listed here! Why are doctor's continuing to prescribe this stuff left and right?? I'd rather just have a sinus infection!

Hey all,
Just had the Mirena put in last Wednesday. Did not hurt at all (I was SOOOO scared that it was going to!). In fact, I literally didn't realize that she had already put it in. I had a TINY bit of cramping after. Nothing like pmsing or anything. And that was for like 20 minutes a little after I got home. I took some IBProfin and had not had any cramps since. Very minimal bleeding. I am breastfeeding so I am not sure if that plays a role with the bleeding.
So this leaves me with one question (well, just one that I want to post and get responses to)....
For all that had problems with the Mirena, did they start from the beginning? From the moment that it was inserted? I wonder if there is a link...well, honestly I am kinda hoping there is a link. It would ease my mind a bit and it would let all of the women who have problems from the get go know that it isn't for them and it could be removed right then.
Oh, and for those that had a problem with the acne, how long after the Mirena was inserted did the acne come into play?
Thanks in advance!

My grandfather at 86-years-old was prescribed Avelox for bronchitis. The warning on the medication listed by Bayer, the company that makes the drug, states that extreme caution should be used when administering to the elderly. He was also prescribed prednisone, which is a drug that is listed that should NEVER be mixed with Avelox. My grandfather took his own life on April 22, 2008, with no warning signs. He was fine when my grandmother left to go to the store and when she returned, she found him. No other family should have to go through what ours has been through in the past nine days!!!! Do not take AVELOX!!!! We just want to prevent one family from going through what we have been through by warning people about this horrible drug. Doctors need to pay more attention to warning labels and drug interaction- someone needs to stand-up and take some responsibility for medications that harm rather then help!

I have been on Warfarin since Sept 2004 when I had multiple blood clots in both lungs. Since then I have had two more PE's (one with a therapeutic INR) and a blood clot in my left arm (INR was also therapeutic). Genetic tests show nothing.
Since starting Warfarin I have had
- dizziness issues,
- eternal extreme fatigue
- hair loss
- short term memory and cognitive issues,
- joint pain and
- head aches all the time. I think the headaches are the worse since I can't take any NSAID's for them.
I have lost weight and push myself to exercise because it is supposed to make you feel better, right? Well not yet. I keep waiting.
I have not been able to return to work and worry about the long term implications of this.
Many times I have wondered about my sanity and if I was imagining all of this, so finding this forum at least lets me know that there is a possibility that it is not all in my mind.
I have been seeing a psychiatrist to help me work through the almost dying 3 times thing, but it is hard to accept since no one knows why I throw the clots. My INR is not stable in spite of close monitoring of Vit K and other drugs, and my INR must be taken twice a week.

I posted a question to anyone who used Tri-Sprintec before, but now it's been several months & I'd like to let everyone else know how it's worked for me! Tri-Sprintec has been the best birth control I've ever taken. I have been on other birth controls over the years, and up to this point Yasmin was good but I still had some side effects. I've just started my fourth month on Tri-Sprintec, and I feel more like myself again. I don't have any crazy mood swings, my skin has cleared up, my periods are regular again & my appetite has gone back to normal. I recommend Tri-Sprintec to anyone who is looking for an affordable & reliable birth control (it's offered at the Wal-Mart pharmacy for $9 a month if you don't have insurance.)

I started taking the NuvaRing on 12/9. The first nine days I had no problems. Then after having sex with my boyfriend, the very next day I started spotting. At first very lightly and with each day it got progressively worse. I thought my body needed time to adjust but after another nine days of bleeding I took the ring out (12/27). It is now 12/31 and I am still bleeding. Its actually worse than my normal four day period because by day four its very light whereas this is day five and it feels like day one. I will never use this again because the only reason its an effective method of birth control is because I'm not having sex because I'm always bleeding! I thought periods were supposed to be lighter and shorter?

Hi! This site is a relief!! I started the NuvaRing and nine days later I had my first ever panic attack. I have NEVER felt anything like it before! I immediately took out the ring, but I have had more panic attacks and serious anxiety since the first one, and I have completely lost my appetite (and I usually love to eat!). I have now been off the ring for 15 days and I still don't feel right at all! I am taking Xanax as a sort of band-aid for the anxiety, but when is this going to end??? Has anybody had symptoms like these go away - how long does it take?? I feel for all of you who are having problems with this drug - hopefully we'll get through it!

ITCHING!! Holy cow!! I am weaning myself off seroquel, and as soon as I dropped 25mg, I broke out in a 24hr full-body itch!
I'm weaning myself off it because the cardiac side effects were awful!! Racing heart, high blood pressures, shortness of breath... I gave it a good two months, and the cardiac effects got worse instead of better. Now the itching... unbearable!!

My experience with Levaquin is very similar to many of the other postings. I have had Levaquin twice, the first time for seven days that produced only mild joint and muscle soreness. The second time was supposed to be for 14-21 days for a severe sinus infection. The literature that came with the prescription did worry me a bit but I remembered reading the same information the first time I took it some six years previously. Well, about nine days into the prescription I was at the gym running on the treadmill, something I do a lot of. I had run in a Half Marathon about a week earlier and planned to just run an easy mile or two, get the blood flowing again. I was about a half mile into the run when it felt like someone stabbed me in the left achilles with an ice pick. I thought I was imagining it at first but I slowed up to see if it would go away. After another 10-15 seconds it now felt like my left achilles and lower calf muscle were going to explode. It may sound strange but that is the only way I can describe it. I have never felt anything like that in my life and I've had quite a few injuries to date. I limped home and for the next three weeks not only could I not even think about running, I couldn't even walk fast and had to shorten my normal walking stride. I went to see a doctor and he said it sounded like a slight rupture. Fortunately, the pain did subside and I resisted running for over three weeks just to be sure it had healed. I started running after that but very very slowly. However, even to this day, I can still feel a "tightness" in that area that was not there before the incident and does not exist on the right side. I had no idea that so many others were having similar or even more sever side affects from Levaquin until the weeks immediately following my incident. When I mentioned this to the doctor who prescribed it, he was very surprised and alarmed. Should he have known, well, probably, yes. However, now that he knows there is no excuse for not using caution for the next patient.

I had a shot of kenalog in my knee for a problem I have when I run long distances. I was told that it would have a 50% chance of helping but it could prevent surgeries. He never mentioned side effects. After the injection- my period came a week late and lasted three days longer than normal. Four days after it ended I got another period. This one was accompanied by severe headaches(I never get headaches) This period lasted another nine days. I went for my follow up and questioned the doctor about it and he said he must have forgotten to mention it but that it can cause some hormone irregularities but that it should go away within a month. I have been so exhuasted and barely able to function. It was five days since my last period and now I got another one today! I am furiouse because I was trying to get pregnant! Now I am freaking out because I am seeing on this sight how long this can really last!
After all of us have had these same problems you think we would be able to sue the company. What can we do becuase I'm on board if you all want to have a class action law suit. How do we start it?

I just started taking this pill 9 days ago... I feel nauseous all the time. I have had headaches 3 of the nine days.. and I was suicidal again yesterday.
I am bi-polar and my moods had been regulated well by medication.
I requested the pill from my Dr. to regulate my periods (I am 47).... after reading the posts here.. I'm throwing the pills out. I will live with irregular periods.. or I will try Alease or something else. This is horrible.

My 5 year-old daughter starting taking omnicef nine days ago. On day seven she began complaining with tummy aches and several hours later began experiencing diarrhea. I mentioned to my husbsand that this may be a side effect and he thought we should stop the drug. I am concerned that if we stop the medication she will relapse....she has had a severe sinus infection and this is her third antibiotic since none of the others seem to be have been effective. I have not noticed any red stools with her but it is still possible.

Our twelve year old daughter had a severe UTI and was prescribed sulfa. After nine days she developed a hive like rash, temperature of 101, very lethargic, mildly confused and no appetite. We took her to her pediatrician who immediately took her off sulfa and directed us to give her plenty of fluids, rest, and benadryl. We are still going through this with our daughter and will post any new side effects if we experience any.
