I began NuvaRing about 6 months ago. I use one every three weeks, followed by another and only have a period once every nine weeks. When I first started it, I had trouble with terrible cystic acne that took FOREVER to go away. Along the 2-3 week on the ring, I became incredbily tired. I was very edgy, irritable, moody. My sex drive plummeted. I am naseous - no vomiting, though. I have terrible allergies anyway, but I also got a bad rash on my arms. I have polycystic Ovarian syndrome, and I need the BC to couteract the PCOS. Well, NuvaRIng has been the best I have tried. I have tried Yasmin, OrthoEvra, Seasonale, among others. Not to mention no pills, this one gave me the LEAST amount of mood swings....BUT, my allergist gave me a Kenalog shot to help with rash, which immediately went away (and I think helped the cystic acne), and I take Prozac to counteract the mood swings. I am not depressed and have no desire to even think about suicide, but prozac calms me. I am pleasant and even quite humorous. And the sex drive is slowly returning. The nausea is also subsiding. I decided to choose my battles. The side effects of PCOS are much worse than anything I experienced with NuvaRIng.

I am glad I stumbed upon this side. I have had athsma since I was about 10. Now I am 34. I took Advair for the first time last year and it seemed to help, with no side effects. This past September, I got slammed with pneumonia and my athsma got out of control. I was prescribed Advair again and it helped get my athsma under control. I took it for a month, and the day I stopped taking it my voice pretty much disappeared. I am now going on almost nine weeks with no voice. My throat does not hurt and I feel great. I just have no voice and am pretty convinced it is from Advair. I have been otherwise healthy are very rarely sick my whole life. I'll never take Advair again. I am seeing an ENT specialist next week and will post if I learn something worthy of sharing.

My 16 yr. old daughter is being treated for severe endometriosis with the Nuvaring. Started wearing it after first surgery, last May. She wears 3 rings over nine weeks, then has a period for a week. She started having lower back paing that interferred with her life in July or August. By her second surgery in Feb.'06, back pain was debilitating and she had to leave school and switch to home school because she is mostly bed ridden. Every movement causes her tremendous pain. She is currently taking five meds for pain, including morphine. She can bearly walk. Doc (GYN) says it's not related to anything in his department, yet MRI, bone scan, x-rays, blood test are all negative. While we are pursuing further testing, I believe that the ring may be responsible for this. So far there are no other explanations, and the research I have done so far is pointing in that direction. My once vibrant, active happy, college-bound teen is now 25lbs lighter, severely depressed and in constant pain. I hope it is something as simple as discontinuing the ring, and I hope that little ring hasn't been the source of her suffering all this time.

Hi, my 6 yo son started on the 4 mg singulair about three months ago after being hospitalized for three days due to a seizure. After many tests and massive iv antibiotics it was determined that his sinus infection (for which he was taking an antibiotic at the time) had irritated his brain and caused the seizure. He has struggled with sinus infections ever since age 1 and taken way too many antibiotics. After starting the singulair we noticed that the next time he got a cold his nasal passages stayed open and after blowing green mucus for about three weeks he was better without an antibiotic. We thought singulair was a God send. But out of the last nine weeks, he has had green snot coming out of his nose for six of them. He also frequently complains about mucus in his throat. But the thing that sent me searching on the internet was that now he is complaining of stomach pain. I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place. He can't handle any more antibiotics, but I don't like what the singulair is doing to him either. I welcome any thoughts. BTW, we did have him allergy tested recently and he his highly allergic to dust, but nothing else.

I already had experienced some bad side effects due to singulair with my daughter. She had become moody, emotional, having nightmares and those are just a few to mention. However, my son had no side effects. When I went to my children's pediatrician, she agreed some children do experience some side effects like my daughter was having. But somehow she didn't see it as quite a concern. I vowed then and there to take both my children off it. Then my son continued having his allergies and over the counter zyrtec didn't seem to help him. I went back to the dr. and because I trust her and have known her for many years....she convinced my to put him back on singulair since he had never had any previous side effects. Well, its been maybe 2 months and now I see my son acting strange. He is not himself. The normal activities he used to enjoy don't interest him anymore. For the last few days, he has been wanting to lay down and he says he's sleepy. To me, he is acting like someone who is depressed and he's only 5!!!!!! I am taking him back to the dr. and taking him off this horrible drug! For all you parents out there...I think we should all go with our "motherly" instincts and do what we think is best for our children. We are the ones that know our children on a day to day basis..not the doctor's. So I am kicking myself for not sticking to my original instincts. My daughter improved drastically! Even her teacher noticed a difference. Please if you notice something, take action before the drug does more damage.
