I had been off Yasmine for almost 3 months and am feeling way better. I started Yasmine in Jan.2006. All was well for 3 mos, then I noticed over that summer my periods were heavier and longer and very clotty. Brown to black to start. And they lasted like 6-8 days!! Then in Aug 06 i had a migraine for 3 days! Then Sept. and again in Oct. Also, I started suffering panic attacks, i would get dizzy and frantic and my heart would race, I was moody and depressed and ended up on anti deppressants and antixiolitcs. My hands would tingle like i wasnt getting blood pumped there. I saw a psych doctor & she said it wasnt the pill I explained that this all heightened during my second week of active pills. Nope not that. My gyn said so too. I swore to him that I thought that this pill was giving me too much hormone and effecting my whole balance and equilibrium of my body... well i started a diary and found I was gettin a migraine the Thursday before my period and the migraine was gone Sunday on my start day. And My panic attacks and anxiety did get worse after 9 days of my new pack. And there was no reason or extra extra stressors at that time happening. It was incapacitating! I had to call in sick, missed college classes and then this pass April 07 lost my job from calling out once a month. At any rate I requested from my GYN to take me off the Yasmine. That was the middle of My . I have iregular periods again but NO MIGRAINES, NO OVER EATING, NO CRAMPS, and my flow is way lighter and not as long. In addition, I no longer suffer from full blown panic attacks, just some extra jitteriness here and there like hmm when i should, during a normal crisis. I had an awful experience with this pill, and would not wish it's side effects on my worst enemy!

AVOID YASMIN LIKE THE PLAGUE! I never have got on with contraceptive pills, but this pill is absolutely the worst of all types I've tried. I specifically told my doctor that responded badly to hormones in BC pills such as weight gain and tender and enlarged breasts - well, two days after starting Yasmin, I started to get shooting pains in the sides of my breast and I grew at least a full cup size. I was miserable, having to wear sports bras and unable to move in any way without feeling discomfort.
The discomfort was not only in my breast, I also started to get extremely moody and a bit depressed. My best friend and husband and I were on a weekend seminar and the two of them called me 'punchy' all weekend. This occurred for about two weeks, succinctely during the two months, I was on Yasmin.
Other side-effects were: heavy periods, spotting, weight gain, dizziness and I swear, I could have slept my life away on this pill. I was always feeling tired and like I needed more rest.
I'm now trying Loestrin 20 now - hoping that will be ok for me.

alrighty, well this is day 7 of taking yasmin and i've been feeling ill all week, but just thought my body had to get used to the pill after being pill free for the past 2 years. so when i got home tonight and had butt pee i figured it was botulism, looked it up, and NOPE that's not it. came on here and read all of your lovely stories.......and now i'm freaked out.
i've not had much of an appetite this past week, which is weird, since i love to eat. i've had butt pee now 3 days of the 7 i've been on it, i've felt nautious like i was going to throw up (as though i'd drank a few shots of jack or something). i have no desire to have sex, which i don't want to effect my soon to be marriage.
i think i'm going to finish out this pack and throw in the towel, i didn't even want to get on the pill in the first place. the doctor said "do you want to get pregnant? cuz if all you're using is condoms, you're going to get pregnant". yeah screw him, i can't do this, this is exactly why i didn't want on the pill. the boyfriend can just continue to invest in trojan....

Beware of Doxycycline! I was taking it for an infection in my tubes. The ER doc perscribed a heavy dose and now (10 years later) I still experiance the side effects. I am extreemly photosensitive. Here's the thing, if I go out in the sun for any length of time (over an hour) my lips and face swells up. The swelling has gotten so bad that I can't eat - except using a straw. Anyone up for a liquid diet? Not fun! So, I thought the use of sunblocks, etc would help. Nope, in fact it makes my reaction WORSE. How has this affected me? I can't go to the park, I can't do water sports, I can't do snow sports, I can't go to the water park, I can't do pretty much anything that requires me being outside for any real length of time. To this point, doctors have not been able to do anything for me. In my opinion, it simply is not worth it. I hope this makes some of you consider talking to your doctor a little more. I sure wish I had.

Reading this site breaks my heart... I was begged by my Dr to 'just try' Lipitor to lower my cholesterol (it was normal) but 'a study showed that if diabetics have lower levels there is a greater prevention of heart attacks'
I started it Aug 16th/05 and within three days had problems putting my arms over my head while lying down... my chiropractor tried to help but a couple of weeks later told me it was muscle issues, nothing she could do.
I even started Ion-Cleanse to detox 'cause I thought maybe I was so toxic the toxins had built up in my upper arm muscles. Lots of toxins out but my arms still caused problems. Finally near the end of Sept./05 I asked my Mom why she had stopped taking lipitor and she told me 'cause she was getting muscle pain in her left arm and it still took a year to be able to lift her arm again without pain. Yikes! I immediately stopped taking lipitor and emailed my Dr. My Doctor told me 'okay, it was just a trial anyway' but she didn't think it was the lipitor but that I had 'frozen shoulder' NOPE, that's from a trauma to the shoulder and my shoulder was just fine...
At this point I couldn't lift my left arm above shoulder level to the side, my right arm wasn't quite as bad and I couldn't put my arms above waist level behind me (made wearing a bra impossible) and if I accidently DID move my arms to the wrong position, like batting at a balloon at work, I would get white searing pain.
This Feb 3rd I had a heart attack (I'm only 44yrs old) and while in the hospital they put me on Ezetrol (which blocks absorption of cholestrol) instead... 'not as severe in the muclse side effects as Lipitor' Fine! I'll try it... after only three weeks I now have constant ache in my upper arm muscles and my forearm muscles have begun to cause me grief as well...I can no loner sleep on my sides without waking in pain. So I've stopped the Ezetrol too... with my Doctor's permission.
My main frustration in all of this that seems similar to others is, A) Doctors don't seem to take you seriously that you have constant aches and pains from these drugs and B) Very few have suggested anything to deal with the problems. I only had one Dr. suggest CoQ10 although he'd not seen much improvement. and C) no one ever asked me to try diet first to get my cholesterol lower than normal, just start giving me drugs to 'try'.
I will strongly suggest that any of you reading this look up info on 'statins and coQ10'... very eye opening info... it may be that Taking the Lipitor caused my heart attack!

Apparently, I am allergic to the 20 mg. of Lisonipril the doctors gave me to take once per day to regulate my blood pressure, which shot up unexpectedly 6 days ago and landed me in the local cardio unit.
I have never had high blood pressure, but I had a dangerously high spike that the ER staff had trouble lowering.
Within 24 hours of beginning to Lisinopril on Friday, I started getting a deep ache in the center of my hip joint in both legs. I thought it was just stiffness from being in bed for over two days, and maybe a reaction to all of the drugs they used on me when I was in the hospital.
Nope. It got worse, and by Sunday night, I was taking aspirin every 4 hours just to cut the pain enough to sleep.
I took my next pill on Monday morning, and the joint pain started getting worse, and were traveling down my leg as muscle pain.
I tried walking up and down stairs, walking around campus, and sitting in my work chair--nothing helped, and the pain just kept getting worse.
I looked up possible side effects for this drug, and the one I found from the National Institure of Health (NIH) site on Lisinopril stated that muscle pain and cramps were a dangerous side effect and that I should see my doctor immediately.
The pain was coming off and on in waves that I could practically time with a watch.
So, I called the office of the cardiologist who took care of me in the hospital, so I could get this medication changed, and see him if necessary.
No dice. His secretary wouldn't even take a phone message for the doctor, because I had not been in to see him before in his office, and all my records were at the hospital (which I found out later, she could have had FAX'ed to her immediately, doggonit).
She said I had to go back to the ER to be seen in order to determine what was going on, etc.
I called my military primary care center, and told them my tale as my cramps grew worse by the minute.
They said I had to go back to the ER, and that Tricare would approve it.
By the time I arrived, I could barely walk, and I stumbled into an ER gone mad. Seems that the entire county got messed up at the same time, and everybody's case was different, but severe.
The only other hospital in the region was in the same shape, and was calling the hospital I was in to see if they could take some of their patients (they couldn't). We even had guys lying on gurneys who had been medevac'd in from other places who were waiting in line to get into ICU.
What a madhouse. The staff took an EKG on me as soon as I arrived and it was OK, so they sent me for a chest X-ray (the results of which I was never told), then left me alone in the hall.
The pain in my hips, back and legs was absolutley agonizing, and grew worse whenever I sat or walked. The pain made my head hurt like hell, too, and made me nauseous, and my vision was becoming very blurred.
I was left unattended for nearly three hours, until I finally fell apart, hobbled into the ER nurses station and keeled over--I woke up vomiting in a securty guard's arms.
They left me on the floor for a while until they could round up a wheelchair, then sort of folded me into it until they could find a free gurney. I lay around for another hour until someone came and started looking me over.
The ER doc said that he "had checked the literature, and that there was nothing about anyone having muscle cramps or joint pain from taking Lisinopril unless they were also on a water pill". I asked him to read the information sheet I had brought from the NIH, but he didn't bother.
I was not on any diuretic, but I was convinced that he didn't know enough about the drug to know for sure what it could or couldn't do.
The info I found on the government medical web sites definitely DID indicate that severe muscle weakness or cramps could occur, and it mentioned nothing about water pills having anything to to with these symptoms.
Anyway, they took blood work (came back normal), and gave me a shot of Xanax, which did nothing to help the pain at all.
Six hours after I arrived in the ER, the doctor finally got around to calling the cardiologist who had cared for me when I was a patient there a few days before.
After another hour of rolling around in tearful agony, and contemplating the beautiful freedom that death could bring, the nurse came back in and gave me a big ol' shot of Demerol. That worked, thank the Maker. My pain subsided to a bearable level, and I passed out.
In the end, the cardiologist's diagnosis was to take me off of Lisinopril, give me a shot of Demerol right away, and then send me home with Darvocet and Flexeril to keep my muscles relaxed and joints relatively pain-free until the drug clears my system (it's one of those that is supposed to "build up", so it takes a few days to clear).
They did this and sent me home--nine hours after I arrived. I will be put on something else by my primary physician when I see him on Friday.
I definitely think my problem was related to the new drug, and I will know for sure in a few days. Thank everyone for your posts; they have provided me with lots of useful information and confirmation. I will be very careful when taking any new BP lowering drug, and will gather plenty of information if I have any problems, so that I can convince any ignorant physician who needs to know what he or she does not.

You girls have no idea how thankful I am that I found this site. Short history - I'm 33 with four children and was diagnosed with a dermoid cyst on my right ovary and a fluid filled cyst on my left 04 November 2004. My gyn put me on Yasmin because she said that my symptoms were typical of high estrogen levels and that by boosting my progestin the cysts would dissolve. She said that without a blood draw so I insisted on one and she ordered it but also told me to start the Yasmin anyway. I wouldn't be taking the white pills, however, she wanted me to continue the next pack to keep the progestin level high. I started that assuming I was doing the right thing. Three weeks later I heard nothing about my blood draw so I called. My estrogen level was fine which meant I had no idea what caused my cysts or what would make them go away. SO, I called the doctor who said I'd have to make a consultation appointment and that ended up being 30 Jan. 2006. Yes, I have to wait three more weeks to see her. I'm NOT happy, but I am also very sick.
For four years I've been HEAVILY involved in kickboxing and weight lifting and now I can barely get out of bed. I've been throwing up like I'm pregnant, nauseous like I'm pregnant, getting migraines like I have a tumor, and appetite? HA! I can't stand the sight or smell of food. Girls, you talk about an eater ~ I can get down! Sadly, I haven't worked out since October because of the cysts making it painful so I decided to hit the gym last night and I even went light on my weights. Nope. Left early...had to puke. In addition to having PTSD and OCD, I now have depression because I'm so SICK all the time.
Someone, please tell me that this will go away or that I'm doing the right (or even wrong) thing. I read that someone's back looked like a warzone. OMG, my FACE does. I'm VERY picky about my face and hair ~ my hair has fallen out in bird nest clumps and my face is a map of the US. It's SO depressing. WHY? I'm 33 and I've NEVER had a health problem and now with two STUPID little cysts, my world has crumbled.
So, is this Yasmin side effects? The vomiting, migraines, my eyes not being able to move without losing equilibrium, my face becoming a connect the dots trick, food becoming the enemy...it really feels like I'm pregnant but TRUST that I've not had sex. It's too painful from the cysts.
HHEELLPP...
Love in advance -
KiDS

I'm a 30 year-old female. I've been on Lisniprol for almost four years. And these four years have been the worst of my life. I've had test after test and seen dr. after dr. trying to figure out what is wrong with me. I have a terrible cough, my face gets hot and I get the chills (kinda like the flu), I'm very achy with pain in my legs and back, headaches, confusion, memory loss, sensitivity to heat/cold, swollen throat, very tired. Chest pain and trouble breathing (wore a heart monitor and had stress test, but everything was normal). Heart rate is rapid. Gained a lot of weight in the last three years. Everything test-wise always came back normal. Saw an OB/GYN to see if I was premenopausal; nope. Had an MRI and CT for the backpain; nothing; Labs done to rule out throid disease; nothing. Saw a neorosurgeon for possible nervous system disease from so much pain. Nothing he could do. Went to allergist for possible allergies; nothing. Oh....but wait..I go to the dr. today to tell him I'm still not feeling better and that I ran acrossed some information on the web about possible side effects of the bp pill Lisinopril and that I still recall that I started experiencing side effects about the time I started the medication of 10mg. Then when he increased it to 40mg, I really felt terrible. He looked back through my labs and saw that an allergan level had been very high in my CBC. He said, "bingo, you must have an allergic reaction, or maybe a perisite". He said this CBC is done on a normal blood test and will show elevation if the body is trying to fight off an infection or has an allergic reaction to something. So...went off the BP pills today. I'll keep everyone posted. My email is ****** if anyone wants to email me with similar situations.

First, let me thank all of you for posting your own experiences. It helps me and others realize we are not crazy about what's going on!
I've been on Yasmin for almost 3 months. After reading this website, I just made an appointment with my doctor to switch to another birch control...for three months, I have been feeling exhausted, over-anxious, depressed, and emotional! I have noticed periods of time when my heart feels like it is going to beat out of my chest, and I get night sweats even in the AC! I have been to my normal physician 2 times within this period of time thinking there was something wrong with me...I am now more apt to believe it was the Yasmin causing all these problems for me.
Don't get me wrong, I have tendencies towards being anxious, etc, but I cry at the drop of a hat, and I take things extremely personally that I know I normally wouldn't!
I can't say I've had all the side effects listed (bigger breasts? Nope!)...and I sure hope I don't start gaining weight going off this "wonder-drug".

Hi all! I thought I was going crazy too. I'm only on day 4 of my first pill pack and for the last 2 evenings (and rght now) my heart pounds and my hands feel tingly/numb, plus I feel very anxious inside and I haven't felt that way in YEARS!! I am on thyroid medicine and just called the pharamcist to see if there was an interaction between the two....nope, she says... This has been the only change. I have been on potassium suppliments but haven't taken them as regular as before. I stopped when I read there could be an interaction. Thoughts???

I had my Mirena IUD put in May 1st of 2007 and all the side effects that came along with it......the constant spotting, acne, itching breasts (which I thought was due to new bras that I had just purchased), nausea, depression (which I had to go back to taking Wellbutrin), no energy; tired all the time. My biggest side effect which I have not found any others to have is Allergies. I know it sounds crazy, but I have never had problems with allergies until a month and half after getting the IUD, extreme allergy symptoms, swollen glands, neck pain, very shortness of breath; to the point that I was down for a whole day here and there, I am having to take Allegra; had to get a steroid shot. Now that it is cold, I thought I would be getting break from the allergies, nope. I joined a gym hoping that it would help in giving me energy, nope.........I have talked to my Dr and the nurses that work with my gyno and they act as if I am making this stuff up. It is very frustrating when you know that your body has done a complete 360 in the wrong direction and everyone seems to think your crazy.
Well I am having my IUD taken out as soon as I can!
