I saw your post on your experience on Mirena...I too am a user and have horror stories. Everything from extreme mood swings, pelvic pain, lack of desire for sex, excessive discharge, hair loss, tired all the time, body aches and the list goes on! All that I can tell you is that I truly felt that I was losing my mind, relationship or a standard sense of normalcy. While approaching what I believed to be the start of a long break up between my sons father and I, I decided to try one last thing. I had already tried a lot of nonsense to try and combat Mirena's horrible side effects, of which none were working...I made an appointment to have Mirena removed. OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im back! I feel like me! I have a desire to have sex again (all within a matter of hours) my mood is steady and only altered by significant events and rightfully so! Please try removing Mirena, start by trying to regain yourself, and all it will take is about 4 minutes to actually remove it. There is also an IUD that has no hormones (Pregnancy hormone only) in it, with only one true potential side effect, Pelvic Inflammation. Figure out your options but if your going through this much with Mirena (plus dealing with a baby is enough!) maybe its a sign that your body just isn't taking to it very well! Seek relief and regain yourself!

I am 32 years old and I have had Mirena since Oct 2006. I did fine with it at the beginning, but now I am not doing so well. I still have Mirena in me and I am scheduled for it to be removed in a couple of weeks. That's the soonest they could get me in. I cannot wait to get it out of me. I pray I will start feeling better because I cannot go on feeling as bad as I do everyday of my life. My symptoms are very similar to others that I have read. I gained weight right after I had it put in me and I have always weighed in around 125 lbs then I put on 15 to 20 lbs. I didn't realize this was the reason I gained. Not only did I gain excessive weight, but I also developed an eating disorder with all the weight I gained. I could not keep the weight off me and now I battle bulimia. Which is a horrible disease that has about destroyed my life. Although bulimia has been a battle for me I have started to over come it and I am doing 10x better than I was 2 yrs ago. As far as the Mirena goes I have dizzy spells everyday. It's not a couple of dizzy spells a day it's several. My hair comes out in hand fulls. My completion is not as pretty as it once was. I now have a little acne when acne was never any problems for me. I am tired and moody. I cry easy and I get depressed and down on myself. I do not have a period anymore but I will spot a little blood. It does seem like I have more discharge now as well. I get very bloated and my body aches. I hope I will start feeling better and getting my life back to where I want it. I want to feel good again. When I had Mirena put in me it was painful. I hope it is not as painful to have it removed as it was having it put in. I hope everyone who reads this feels better or starts to feel better. I am glad I found this site and that I can relate to several. I wish the best for everyone, because we all deserve to be at the top of our game unfortunately Mirena has brought several of us down. I pray for all of you.

I started coumadin 2 weeks ago, for a clot in my leg. I'm dizzy and lightheaded. I guess I'll be on it for at least 3 months. I've had abdominal surgery and a wrist fracture repaired surgically in the last 6 months and have had breast cancer (surgery, chemo, radiation) 4 years ago. I'm on Arimidex now. All of this is to explain possible underlying causes which I am investigating.

Dizziness seems to occur within an hour of my taking it - in the morning, but subsides by the afternoon. I'm thinking of switching the time I take it to the night - before I go to bed - maybe I can be dizzy in my sleep then and wake up with some sense of normalcy. Any comments?

I had Mirena in for a month ( 2 days shy, actually ) and it was a living hell. I had it removed this past Friday, much to the disappointment of my doctor. "Give it more time" she said. I said "give it more time for WHAT?!". In the 4 weeks I had it in I gained 8 pounds, bled every single day with the exception of 3, and I mean heavy bleeding. Equivalent to after the birth of my children. It was horrible. I had headaches and extreme moodiness. My sex drive went to absolutely nothing. I'm so anxious for my body to get back to normal and I hope and pray it does soon. Very soon. I can't drop any of the weight and feel hungry constantly. I'm watching what I eat and I exercise and so far no results. I don't know how long it'll take to get this nasty thing out of my system. I can't wait to have a sex drive again. I've been so moody even I can't stand myself. This just really sucks.
As far as the removal, it wasn't painful; just a slight pinching. Having it put in however, was another story. Nightmare city. I'm just glad it's gone and hope I return to normal soon. Also, after having it removed, I bled like CRAZY for 3 days. Small price to pay to have it out though.
So anyone thinking of getting it .... DON'T! Anyone who has it and hasn't had any problems ... count yourself very lucky. This thing should be banned. My insurance isn't covering any of it so I'm out $1200.00. Yes, that's $1200.00. Just the icing on the cake, I guess.

It has helped me a lot reading everyone's experiences with the "dreaded" Simvastatin. I have been off this poisonous drug for 7 weeks, and am still feeling rough, and thinking when is this all going to go away ! My doctor swears blind it is nothing to do with the Simvastatin, but I am a 100% sure it is , as I felt fine before I took these nasty tablets. I still have persistent buzzing in the ears , dizziness, palpitations, constantly tired , and generally feel as if I am on another planet. Ive had blood tests , ecg tests and nothing has been found. Im hoping one morning to wake up feeling "normal". I will never , ever, take Cholesterol drugs again , as I don't want to go through all this again. I really feel for everyone that is suffering, and would be interested if anyone is having the same after affects as myself.
Good luck to everyone who is suffering like me .

-After seeing this website and several others, I made the decision to have the IUD removed, and I couldn't have been more excited and happier to do so. There was no pain when it was removed, and it was very quick. The doctors and nurses that I spoke to about the Mirena, really could have cared less to what I had to say about it. They removed it, and then left the room...yeah, I felt really cared for. Needless to say, I was extremely moody and began my period 1 day after having it removed. I felt a sense of normalcy by having my period, and my body was functioning as it should. It has now been a week and I feel extremely better, although I was told it would take several weeks for the hormone to leave the system. I really am outraged at our health care, and it's physicians, it would be nice to be informed of potential side effects that can occur. But most of the docs will tell you that it can't possibly the mirena, even though you felt normal before insertion, and it is the only foreign thing in your body...Remove it if you have one, don't let it get the best of you..Good luck

I was prescribed this drug in hopes of keeping thyroid nodules and goiter from growing larger. My TSH levels have always been in the normal range throughout my life, so the theory that "normal TSH' means a working, normal thyroid is absolutely untrue. I am a prime example of a person who's numbers have always remained normal and yet their thyroid does not work properly. I have decided to discontinue this drug after 3 months of use. The weight is packing on faster than I can diet and exercise it off. My face is puffy, my stomach bloated and looking pregnant, and now retaining water. Anyone who does not believe that Synthroid causes weight gain, I welcome you to try this drug. It does the exact thing it claims it is combating. I am not hypo with levels of 1.07 and yet something odd is occurring within my body with this synthroid. I'm praying that if I stop the drug I might return to some form of normalcy soon.

My wife (66) was using salbutamol inhaler for the last 10 years being a bronchial asthmatic. Even prior to that, she was being treated with a combination of theophylline, cortisones . In 2001 she was diagnosed to be suffering from OCD and citalopram 20 mg was prescribed. With significant improvement, the dosage was reduced to citalopram 10 mg, though we lowered the dosage only in December 2007. However, during the last month, when she had to be admitted in the hospital for a stomach virus the doctors prescribed MONTELUKAST SODIUM 10 MG combined with lEVOCETIRIZINE 5 MG. .
Dramatically, montelukast had a dramatic effect in that my wife never used the salbutalmol inhaler for well over 2 months, about which we were very happy.
But the worst was yet to come.
During the last few days, she again showed symptoms of the dreaded OCD once again, and she suffered like anything. On contacting a well known doctor, we were advised to stop MONTELUKAST and asked to continue citalopram (though escitalopram instead of citalopram ) along with clonozepam 5 mg to be tapered down every week for about a month.
I would like to be advised from a doctor whether (a) discontinuance of Montelukast will be able to bring back normalcy from OCD of course with citalopram or escitalopram. and (b) whether montelukast can be abruptly stopped. For the time being, we have reduced the dosage of montelukast from 10 mg to 5 mg.
PLEASE ADVISE US.

I went off Yasmin 4 months ago. While my period returned quickly after quitting and has been regular, the abdominal pain/cramping, greasy hair, acne (I never had acne in the past), and mild mood swings are persisting into month 5. I have especially strong abdominal pain in the morning when I wake up, which subsides a little after I urinate. Does anyone have any advice for how I can speed up my body's process of returning to 'normalcy?' The greasy hair and skin are especially frustrating, and the abdominal pain is uncomfortable. Is there some herbal supplement or something that could help??

During the three weeks I was using 150 mg. Wellbutrin, ringing in the ears gradually increased, mild headaches on top of my head, occasional light spasms around my mouth, constipation, and bladder problems. My sleep was unaffected, and my depression did not lift. My dose was increased to 300 mg, and by the fourth day, I was having serious facial spasms, intense headaches, louder and constant ringing in the ears, almost 'round-the-clock wakefulness, anxiety, difficulty thinking and completing sentences, pounding heart, amplification of sounds, jitters and quaking. I felt like a car, perpetually idling so roughly that all my parts were about to rattle right off the chassis. On the fifth day I took nothing. I've had some chills, a little nausea, headache, neck-ache (Isn't that weird?!) and some ringing, but at a lower volume that's hardly noticeable. This is the fourth day with no Wellbutrin, and I haven't had facial spasms at all in the past couple of days, have less nausea, and the very funky smell produced in my urine from the second week I was on the meds has calmed down. If I'm still in a depression it's been overshadowed by the most awful side effects I could have imagined. It felt like the spector of death was overtaking my body by day four of that 300 mg. dose. I had been on a hefty dose of Zoloft daily for almost ten years and never experienced anything unpleasant other than weight gain, my reason for trying to switch meds because I couldn't quit putting on weight no matter what. I am going to try SAM-e, and suggest that anyone looking for a natural alternative, with the prospect of few and insignificant side effects, do an online search. Whether I find success with the SAM-e, or if it falls short of what I need, I'll post here to let you know what happens. A month ago I thought the depression was the end of the world; I think the cure was worse than the disease.

I've been on 200 mg Lamictal for 2 months now, after 4 month titration up from 25mg; Going off Lithium 900mg titration to 450mg this week. Since 1st day of lower Lithium, all the common Lamictal symptoms went from mild to extreme. Whole body muscle aches (like 24 hours after a heavy weightlifting workout) worse in neck & back/shoulders/calves, bad headaches, swelling in hands & feet, extreme blurred vision, loss of memory, halted speech while trying to figure out what to say, fuzzy. I called the Clinic to simply ask which NSAID (aspirin? ibuprofen? Excedrin? naproxin?) to use to manage the pain. They all freaked and made me come in for a blood test to check Lithium levels. I explained I wasn't "overly" concerned about it at this point, but just looking for a recommendation, and that they may be over-reacting (even though I did appreciate their concern). I also reminded them that I had just **decreased** Lithium when it happened, so I wasn't having a Lithium Toxic attack (I'm well-versed in that, having been on Lithium for 7 years). It didn't do much good to tell them I thought their diagnosis was a little off. I'll find out the blood test results today, but I'm pretty sure I know what they'll be. They also wanted me to see my PCP since it could be something else. Again, the problem was a ramp-up of existing symptoms the next morning after I lowered Lithium (the only change), so I'm conviced everything centers around that. I think they're a little inexperienced with this med. (Lamictal/Lamotrigine) and if they'd just read this blog they'd probably learn a lot. They had never heard of the muscle ache side effect. Pretty hard to believe after reading all of your comments! My theory is that Lithium was somehow holding back the side-effects of Lamictal and now they're expressing themselves more fully. I haven't read anything like this on any internet discussion, so maybe my body is very different. But maybe my experience will give someone else some insight in a similar situation.
I might also mention something that happened to me I have only seen (kinda) in one other "blog" about follicle (sweat gland) cysts. Yeah, I definitely got the jawline acne starting at the Lamictal 50mg level & increasing at 100mg. But I also got my first ever "cyst" that concerned me and sent me to my dermatologist for the first time in 30 years (I'm 47 and saw the old guy when I had acne at 17!). It started as a blind pimple on my chest the week I increased Lamictal to 200mg (final dose), but didn't go away. It continued to grow (not diminish) over 4 weeks to 3/8 inch round/pink/solid/itchy/burn-when-rubbed. So off to the "Doctor" like my father used to do on a regular basis (I know I'm getting old now) and scalpel/pop/stitch it was out. But it was real, not my imagination or hypocondria, and the timing of its appearance was right when Lamictal changed to full steam. Since acne appears to be a common effect with so many, it seems it's not unreasonable that this occurs occasionally as well to others. Let me be the 2nd to mention it. No "official" verification, but....
I'm not bagging on Lamictal, and have been very hopeful that this would be better than Lithium. It has eliminated the GastroIntestinal problems I had on Lithium, but I am getting discouraged that it has all the brand new symptoms that are discussed in this blog. Your "stuff" is real. I wish the Docs/Nurses/Case Workers would spend 5 minutes checking your comments out. It might bring about a better informed conversation than the shiny Glaxo flyers provide. That is all.

Every website I go to, most women say that they haven't had a period at all since starting Loestrin, but I'm having the opposite problem... this is my third month on the pill and every month, before I even make it through 2 weeks of active pills, I start bleeding. It's not extremely heavy most days but it lasts for the rest of the month! I seriously can't take it anymore. I basically have about three weeks of bleeding every month and a week or so of normalcy... is anyone else experiencing this problem? My gyno told me that it takes 3-4 months for my body to get used to the pill, but this is ridiculous.

I had the Mirena put in May'08. I've noticed increased acne, cramping in my legs, and spotting. I am also dealing with symptoms of bladder infections, however, there is no infection. My OBGYN says there is no correlation between the Mirena and my bladder problems, however, the urologist said that the Mirena could cause problems to other organs around the uterus (including the bladder). He stated it could be traumatic to our bodies, causing muscles in our pelvic area to tighten, nerve damage, etc. My OB diagnosed me with Interstitial Cystitis, a disease of the bladder lining that is without a cure, but my urologist didn't buy off on this and so now I'm having other tests done to make sure it's not bladder cancer, etc. Again, my urologist believes it's related to the Mirena. All I know is that I didn't have bladder problems until I had the Mirena inserted, which was the most painful experience aside from giving birth to my children! After reading the postings on this website, I'm definitely removing this device from my body ASAP! Good luck to all of you women who have had similar experiences. I pray that our bodies will return to some sense of normalcy.

I suffered with pre-menopausal symptoms for 2 years before having the Mirena inserted in May 2007. My symptoms included bad menstrual cramping, heaving bleeding, hot flashes, night sweats, moodiness and lack of libido. But since having the Mirena all those symptoms have gone away. My OBGYN is using it for Hormone Replacement because I am too young (34 yrs old) to have menopause. I felt a lot better after about 3 months, I still have some side effects like hand numbness (mostly when I wake up in the morning or at night). Every couple of months I have some mild break through bleeding and I have PMS symptoms before it happens. I would have gone crazy without Mirena. I do have 1 symptom that I haven't heard anyone mention. Increased bladder infections, I don't know if this is caused by the Mirena or maybe its something else. If anyone has had this symptom can you post it?

I don't have a side effect to report, but I have read all of your responses. Over all they are 95% negative. The only thing I am wondering, is WHY you chose Yaz to begin with.

I have been thinking about taking Yaz to help with my severe PMDD. If you don't know what that is, basically it's like the moodiness side of PMS times 10. I am euphorically happy normally, lol, kind of like how happy a cocker spaniel is when their family gets home... except I don't piddle on the floor. About 5 days before my period starts I go into a very deep depression, I bloat, I am irritable, and my entire life suffers. I cry (wail is more like it) for absolutely NO reason... blah blah blah. But once I am about 2 or 3 days into my cycle it all passes and I am back to chipper me.

Long story short, I heard Yaz is supposed to be amazing to help stabilize emotions in people like me. How many of you started Yaz just as birth control, or as an acne control? How many of you took it for PMDD and it STILL didn't help?

I had my Mirena inserted about 4 months ago and I have felt like I'm falling apart ever since. I have experienced the following symptoms: numbness/tingling in arms and legs, EXTREME fatigue, depression, anxiety, acne on back, my hair is thinner, bloating, sore stomach, lower back pain, etc. Most recently, I have had a lot of heartburn and my voice is kind of hoarse. Also, when I went to the doctor, they did a urine test and found that I have a trace of blood in my urine. Along with this I feel like I need to pee all the time, but I seem to have no bladder infection. I am fed up with this device and feeling like total crap all of the time. I have no energy and can't seem to get enough sleep. The only thing good about this thing is that I don't have a period. Of course, my doctor swears all of these symptoms can't possibly be due to the Mirena, but I don't see how it could all be coincidental. Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing these weird symptoms like the bladder issue or the heartburn/hoarseness.

I had the Mirena put in in Feb 07 and while at first it was all great and a great thought of not having to take a daily pill and such a good form of bc I thought why not? I have adenomiosis which is in the inner lining of the uterus (like endometriosis but inside instead of outside) which causes many issues like extra pain/cramping, my body bloating even more during ovulation, and then irritating all of the other organs in there since the uterus is irritated which leads to more swelling and discomfort, as well as pain during intercourse. This was prior to my last pregnancy which was in May 06. I've been pregnant 6 times and have 4 children. We aren't in a position to have anymore right now. Since Oct/Nov 07 I have begun gaining weight - mainly at the times I am probably 'ovulating' and the bloat can last about 3 weeks out of the month - I'm talking 15+ pounds. Mood swings out that wazoo and pain during intercourse which I think is what has led to my very low sex drive. Also, and I don't know where this is coming from or if there is any normalcy to it, but my breasts are leaking (I haven't breastfed since Dec 06). My GP put me on Prozac and I tried them but didn't find myself any better, just more tired. Now I'm taking some vitamins, but don't know what else to do. I had an ultrasound last week that showed all is fine and that the Mirena is in its right position. I re-meet with my Ob/Gyn the 19th to see where to go next. This sucks.

I was on Orthocept pills for 10 years with no problems. Short, light periods, no PMS. I can have a temper, but it was when I was younger and in the middle of a fight. That being said...I gave birth to twin daughters in November 2005. 9 months later, I stopped breastfeeding and had to go back on birth control. My old pill didn't work and neither did 3 others (included Yaz). I bled almost the entire month. I was crabby and irritable, but mostly frustrated. It was a horrible 1 1/2 years. 6 months ago I was put on Nuvaring because it should produce no side effects for the most part. Besides heavy discharge (which I could live with if I wasn't bleeding all month), I had heavier periods. I also noticed I was starting to get some nasty PMS, which I've NEVER had in my entire life. I was moody and irritable and cried even more easily than normal. Lately, I've been lashing out at my sweet girls and yelling at them. At first I thought it was because they are going through the difficult "2's" and mealtime is a struggle. I thought, they are more challenging so my patience is worn a little thinner. My husband has a different story. We've both noticed nasty mood swings and it's gotten to the point in the past month that I feel bi-polar. I really feel out of control. My doc said to go off it for a few months to see how I am. This is my "period" week and all of a sudden I've had a little period. I haven't been able to get my hormones under control since giving birth and it's frustrating. My husband wants his wife back and I don't want my girls to remember me yelling and crying for no reason. THAT'S enough to make anyone depressed on their own. I'm not sure what we are going to do for birth control at this point (condoms I guess...which is no fun when you are used to not using them). I will see what happens. I hope it's not the Nuvaring, but after seeing these posts, I feel a little better knowing I may be able to get rid of some of my craziness over the next few months as my body goes back to "normal". Good luck to the rest of you as well. I love being a woman, but boy, we get the short end of the stick sometimes!

my six year old has been on Adderall xr 10mg for about two months. He gets so upset!!!!! very easy then he cries. He cries so hard sometimes he cant even breath. In school he is doing great still behind academically. He is seeing a neurologist next month to see about a learning disability until then I am very concerned about him getting so up set and crying He even said he didn't think I loved him. That just broke my heart. Before the Meds he had never been like this. As soon as as I held him he calmed right down. I also have a 9yr old that takes 15mg. He suffered a severe Brain injury this past July of 2007 The med is working well with him his Focus. He injured the frontal lobe and right and left side of the brain. If he gets upset it is a bit different too I am assuming it is more the injury I am not sure He is definitely not like my six yr old. They both do have a hard time settling down for bed time at night the DR said that was a big side affect and prescribed them both Melatonin 1 hour before bed that seems to help. s any suggestions I am open.
