I am 24, I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. After I gave birth to my youngest, I opted for the Mirena thinking it would be the best choice for me. For a few months, things were fine. Then things went downhill in a hurry. I lost every bit of my weight and then some with my first baby, now I can't get the weight off at all. I have migraines all the time and waves of nausea that last all day. I went from having constant periods, then they just stopped. Then I bled for nearly 3 weeks, then nothing again. I have NO sex drive whatsoever and I cry for absolutely no reason. I also did not realize that you can still get pregnant on the Mirena, but the fertilized egg has nowhere to implant. I don't want to have miscarriages every month! I really hoped that I would have a great experience with the Mirena, but I have had nothing but trouble. I am getting it removed on the 17th, and I am so excited, but I am nervous because my uterus is extremely retroflexed, and I hope it comes out easily!!!

Hi everyone,
I got the Mirena put in a little over 3 weeks ago and it's been nothing but trouble. I've had consistent spotting, my skin is awful---I'm getting pimples!--, I feel bloated and, worst of all, my moods are awful. I even had a fleeting thought today as I was driving about driving my car over a cliff. I would never do it of course, but the thought scared me. I'm already on a low dose of anti-depressant(Celexa) and worry that Mirena is making it worse. The weight-gain issue really worries me as well. I would like to get it removed, but worry that my doctor will tell me to give it more time. I really don't want to wait---I just want it out. I'm really kicking myself for taking my doctor's word and not researching it more before getting it.

I have had the Mirena for 3 or 4 years now. The first few years was great I didn't have any systems at all and i just loved it. Well over the past year I have had nothing but trouble I have gained over 30 lbs, I've became so depressed to the point I won't do anything get dressed, do my hair, leave my house, I break down and cry for no reason, I keep migraines, and I'm to the point I hate waking up. I've tried to talk to my Dr. about having it removed but they just make me feel as if all this is in my head so I keep it. They did tell me about another IUD called the Paragard which is what I want because it is non hormonal but they say they can't do it at their office and I can't find no one else to do it either. So I'm still stuck with the Mirena until I can get the Paragard. That's if I don't get fed up before than and take it out myself.

I am 20 years old and i got the copper IUD fitted on the 24th October '08 after being fed up of taking the pill for 4 years.
It has been nothing but trouble since I had it put in!! It was extremely painful when I had it inserted, I have had bleeding in between periods, migraines before periods which I have never experienced before, cramping before, after and in between periods, rectal pain for some reason, bacterial vaginosis, extreme bloating, pain and bleeding during intercourse and mood swings.
Im sick to death of it already and it makes me dread my period, i cant even go out when im on because i feel that ill.
So my advice to you ladies, if your thinking of having one inserted, is don't do it!! Women have enough to deal with, without having extra symptoms to worry about!!!

I started seeing a shrink, now I come on here a couple of weeks ago and OMG its has to be the mirena. Also the facial hair is unbelievable. My husband and I fight constantly, I feel so bad I have been awful. Weight gain is awful, I had a baby boy 11 months ago, these kind of symptoms should be gone already!! I just want to feel myself again!!!! Oh I also have gotten multiple ovaian cysts, that hurt!! It is awful, not worth the trouble!

I got the Mirenda IUD inserted about 3 1/2 months ago. Since having it I have had nothing but trouble. I have been bleeding almost everyday for the last 3 1/2 months. I probably have had 5 days of no bleeding. I also feel so bloated. I haven't weighed myself b/c I am scared to know but I am bigger now than 6 weeks after I had my baby. My doctor said that this device cannot cause weight gain but I am not a believer. My clothes are so tight and my tummy area is so swollen. I also have started cramping recently. I made an appointment to have it removed on Friday. Anyone have any other suggestions of birth control?

i had a merina inserted about 2 weeks ago and i had nothing but trouble since it was put in i got terrible cramping not long after it was inserted and the bleeding was shocking i then developed a yeast infection which lasted for a whole week and nothing touched it it was terrible..
it wasn't till last fri that i got shocking pains and could not urinate with out feeling immence pain..
my friend took me to the emergency hospital and they informed me it may be infected..
after 4 attempts it was finally removed and lucky it was as it was starting to embed itself into my cervix and much of the string was left for them to retrieve it..

I hate mirena. I had mirena for a year and a half. I had bleeding with intercourse, headaches, cramping, hair loss, depression, and swollen lymph nodes. I overall just didn't feel good. The strings migrated upward into my uterus. The doctor tried to "fish" the strings out, but had no luck and had to schedule a d&c to remove it. It ended up costing me about 4-5 grand for a small piece of plastic that has gave me nothing but trouble. I still have not had a period and can't get pregnant and it has been 5 months post mirena. My lymph nodes have gone back to normal now..just no period and no baby.

Hi, my name is Claudia and I'm from the Netherlands. I have had the Mirena for about ten months now, and am gonna get it to be taken out next Wednesday. I have had nothing but trouble since day one. Nausea, depression, anxiety attacks, numbness, neck pain, migraines, IBS, hair loss, and very painful breasts with swollen milk glands. My GP said he didn't believe it was all caused by Mirena, and put me on anti-depressants. Now I know for sure that I'm doing the right thing by having it taken out. The nausea was so bad, I thought I was pregnant because it felt exactly the same. And hair started growing in my face, and falling out from off my head... terrible. And I got these pregnancy-like spots in my face from sunlight....

I have recently started taking the Orthotricyclen pill. I have had nothing but trouble. I have diabetes, and therefore it has completely screwed up my bloodsugar. This is fine. I have finally found a way to control them. But, I am having some other adverse effects. I am nausiated, EXTREMELY moody, very weird dreams, tired most of the time, etc. But I do have a question. I have slight crampiness in my lower abdomen. It is the same type of cramping (or uneasy feeling) that I get the day before my period. I do not know if this is normal. It does have me a bit concerned. I was told by my doctor that it is better if you do not have sexual intercourse after taking it, up to two weeks after. I was dumb however and did anyways. I am worried that the symptoms that I am having may be that I got pregnant even though I am taking the pill. (I had all of these symptoms when I was pregnant before) If these are normal symptoms, please let me know. (I haven't read anything about other people cramping...only uneasiness, not full on cramp)

I started birth control last July and since then I have been on three different kinds of pills. I first was on Zovia. While on Zovia I would get my period every other week, and this went on for six months. Second I was on Karvia, and it made me depressed and increased the cramps to the point where I couldn't walk. My Dr. then switched me over to Ovcon 35 and I am just ending my second pack. I have had nothing but trouble with this Pill.
I have had: sudden horrible headaches, a change of appetite, lack of energy, depression, bloating, stomach cramps, constipation, dizziness, loss of appitite- to the point where i couldnt tell if i was hungry or full, missed period, nausea, and I have gained weight.
It got so bad that I freaked out thinking that I was possibly pregnant and I took a test only for it to be negative. (Thank God). Hopefully switching to Yasmin will be better for me.

I have had my Mirena out for almost three months now and couldn't be happier with the results that I have had. I do not get the horrible daily headaches anymore and my skin has cleared up. I was having gallbladder attacks due to the rapid weight gain that I had with stained. Now that I have started to lose the weight, I no longer have issues with my gallbladder. The weight is coming off really fast, I have lost 20 pounds in two months. Finally, I feel that I am returning to my old self. I am much happier and know for a fact that it has to do with having the Mirena taken out. I think that if anyone is suffering with any side effects from the Mirena, they should have it removed.
