I have been taking los dose (50mg) Trazodone as a sleep aide for about 3 months. Since the first week I have had horrible headaches, worse than any migraine I've ever had. These headaches are always one sided and cause hearing problems for the duration of the headache. Nothing, and i do mean NOTHING will stop these headaches except percocet. My Dr is having me do an MRI just to be sure theres nothing wrong in my head, but I honestly think its the Trazodone.

I'm so happy I found this site. I've been thinking I'm crazy or just getting old for the last 3 years while on Yasmin. I started taking it at age 29 and almost immediately after started having mood swings, extreme irritability and depression. I had previously been on Ortho Tri Cyclen and the Ortho Cyclen before Yasmin and was on them for MANY years and never had one side effect. I only switched in the first place because I like to have very very few periods and I run all my active pills together to forgo periods very often and I was having breakthrough on the Cyclen. Hence, the Yasmin trial.
I'm actually a doctor (which is why I CANNOT have frequent periods with all the accompanying issues), but I didn't even realize the possible connection between IBS and Yasmin. This needs to be studied and taken seriously. I never once had IBS symptoms until a few months after starting Yasmin. Now, 3 years later I have almost constatnt trouble, to the point everytime I eat I run for the bathroom, yet my weight has never been higher. I asked a GYN friend at work if they could be related and she said definitely no, but reading all of these "real life" examples, coupled with my own experience has made me think otherwise. Often, the symptoms will occur shortly after taking the pill, even when I haven't yet eaten breakfast. It's crazy!!
I'm going to switch either back to Ortho Cyclen or to something new ASAP and will report back. I'm both excited at the thought that my "IBS" might really be Yasmin related but also scared that it might not go away and therefore might really be IBS. I'll report back... It honestly never entered my mind that all of it could be the Yasmin. I had just moved, started a new job in a town I hate and I thought it was all stress related.
I've also had an interesting side effect no one has mentioned yet- my hair texture has dramatically changed. It isn't falling out, but has gone from VERY curly with a nice soft spiral curl pattern to very dry, straight and hard to manage. Nothing else has changed and now I'm wondering if it's not the DRSP. If pergnant women can have hair changes, why not women on the pill?? It's all hormones.
As always with a drug, there are always possible side effects. No one drug is perfect, and humans are so complex in their make up and they way they process drugs. Therefore, please don't judge your family docs or GYNs too harshly as not even the best doctor in the world can predict every side effect.

I was on NR in the early 2003... I was on it for like a week, if I recall it was a short time.... They doc placed me on it because of slow hormone release into my blood stream, before that I was on Yasmin, and had no issues, other then being very moody.... With in the first five days I was very sick, I had breathing issues, coughing, nausea, and every bad eye sight..... This was on a saturday, I had went to the doctor that very morning and he told me I just had a cold, need to go home take it easy and take meds... So I went home, was on the couch, taking the meds he gave to me, when all of sudden I couldnt breath, had very very very heavey chest, strong chest pains and I thought I was dying.... My mother was with me, she called the doc, and he said it could had been a reaction to the meds, just dont take anymore, if I am not better go to the ER.... By that night, was not able to breath at all, walking from the tv to the couch was not even possible, I actually thought I was dying... then during all of this, I began to get this deep pain in my inner thigh of my right leg... By Monday, the leg was HUGE, three times the size it should be... I was still not able to breath, I thought I was dying... I went to ER on Monday, they found nothing wrong with me.... Sent me back home.... This kept going on, and getting worse, they knew I couldnt breath but we didnt know why, they checked my heart and it was fine... So I went all week long, with this issue my leg just kept swelling bigger, and breathing was worse... By thursday, I was back to ER.... the Doc on duty, found the issue... I had a DVT, that was in my leg, and it was in my lung at this time.. was not sure if more was going to follow or what, but he said my body is not wanting to adjust to this, and is trying to shut down... I was to stay very still, and tell him everything I had and was taken in meds.... I told him about the cold meds that I had taken, but then he asked me about birth control, I told him, I had the Nuvaring in as we speak... he told me to pull it out, and NEVER use it again... I did.. and I was rushed to a larger Hospital, where the fight for my life began.... By the time I got there I had blood sugar over 380.. My body was not working right, I couldnt breath, I was dying... My body would not take any blood thinners, meds or anything, I smelled like death, they moved me to a private room, due to the smell.... I was vomiting, had major loose stool, and was not able to wear any clothes for a period of about two days... the doc there at the hospital told my family it would be a miracle if she pulls thru this, or even if she does, if she can keep the leg, (it was blocked 98% and was turning purple).... Her life will never be the same, and she has a very very high risk of this again, if not death in the near furture, she will have to be on blood thinners for the rest of her life.... to make a long story very short, I am still alive, of course, and I kept the leg, it swells from time to time, I actually walk on it, wear 3 inch heels and live as normal of a life as I can... July of 03 they were going to take the leg, and I asked the doc if he could just wait, I was determined to keep it... and I did... they said I would never be able to wear heels again, it was at that time my foot was a size 12 and my other foot was an 8.... But I beat the odds... I cannot and would never take Birth Control again, I cannot have children due to the risk of dying, have to live on blood thinners for the rest of my life... This was caused by the Nuvaring.... I had no blood issues, did not smoke nor drink, and I was very active.... PLEASE PLEASE dont use this device! READ everything you can! PLEASE, Blood clots dont care who you are or what you do.... It can happen to anyone! If you have had issues with this device, contact me at******. I would like to hear your story, and would hope you would join me in making women know what the outcome can be.... I am now 36, and I live everyday as tho it could be my last...WE are not promised anything, so the next time you use any form of Birth Control. please, be careful! I have never been married, and was told I cannot have children and of course I didnt have any before all of this happen... This device changed my future, dont let it change the people you love! SPEAK OUT, PLEASE!

I am a 34 year old and have been taking Yaz for almost a year.
I had some minor side effects until this past month when everything came apart at the seams. I do not know if yaz is the culprit - but the number of women with the EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS as me listed here SCARES THE HELL OUT OF ME.
My "minor" sude effects were the following:
* No period for 5 months
* No sex drive (was not the case before taking Yaz)
* Panic attacks / anxiety (no history fo this. My doc has now put me on Zoloft.)
* Bloating / weight gain
* Brown blotches (like age spots) on one side of my face
This is NOTHING compared to the last month of my life. Basically my life has sucked for the last month. Roughly a month ago my symptoms started with a red rash on the left side of my face and pain in my left ear that led to a migraine that has not gone away at all. (The pain level goes between a 5 and 10, but never lower than a 5.) The rash went away in 2 days, but my ear still hurts today (a month later).
My vertigo began roughly 5 days after the onset of my rash and ear pain and has been non-stop since. I've taken phenergan, valium, etc. - but they are not working. I get spinning/dizzy every time my head moves (up, down, left, right) and with up and down eye movement. It seems like my migraine pain intensifies when my vertigo hits me. If I lie completely still - I have no vertigo - but my migraine is still there. To make matters worse, I have become very disoriented, like I am in a fog all of the time. I am only 34 years old and feel like I am losing my mind. I cannot remember simple words at times and have a tough time completing sentences.
All of these symptoms coincide exactly to the day I began a new packet of the birth control pill called YAZ (Yasmin). I had taken this brand of pill for a year, and though it has worked (not pregnant) I have had some minor side effects up until the last month. The biggest side effect is that I have not had any period at all for the last 5 months. I have also had anxiety (no past history) and have no sex drive (not my normal self.) I stopped taking the pill about a week ago - after reading literally thousands of people with the same side effects I am experiencing on a website called medications.com (My neurologist also told me to stop taking it.)
I am NOT having ringing in my ears or loss of hearing. I mention this because I know other ailments have these as symptoms.
I have already been seen by my dentist, physical therapist, ENT, 2 neurologists and a gyn. So far - they are not helping. I have even been hospitalized for 5 days and all they really did was try and dope me up to sleep and had me take a very potent anti-migraine drug called DHE that must be administered over a 36 hour period via IV. Guess what? It did not work.
The most scary thing is that even though I get severe vertigo any time I move my head (even to the point of waking me up while I sleep) - NOT A SINGLE DOCTOR EVEN MENTIONED I MIGHT HAVE BPPV ( BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO) and they did not test for it at all. They were all interested in treating my month-long migraine with anti-migraine drugs. They all swore up and down that my vertigo was related to my migraine. They also said my fogginess was because I was "tired and sick" and many migraine sufferers are that way.
After my husband and I searched the internet and found dozens of websites, we are pretty much convinced that I have BPPV. We are going to get in front of a vestibular specialist ASAP.
So you know, I have been through a CT scan, two different MRIs, basic blood work on my white cell counts, thyroid levels, potassium, etc.
They have ruled out a sinus infection, brain tumor, pituitary tumor, stroke, blood clots, etc. They have simply treated me with anti-migraine medication - and it has been worthless. I have taken Topomax, Frova and DHE (the drug mentioned above) and my migraine is still there. These drugs have not helped one bit. My neurologist swore that the DHE would do the trick. Guess what? He was wrong.
I discharged myself from the hospital yesterday and am now at home.
I just want my normal life back. I cannot drive, work, take care of my family, etc.
My two biggest questions are:
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF BPPV CAN CAUSE MY MIGRAINE? The reason I ask is that the doctors all think that the migraine is causing my vertigo. All along they have been treating my migraine (with zero success) and have been giving me valium and antivert to simply mask my vertigo (no success there either.) No one has tried to really diagnose and treat my vertigo. Is it possible if I get my vertigo fixed my migraines will disappear?
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT BIRTH CONTROL PILLLS CAUSING BPPV? I saw woman after woman on medications.com have the same symptoms of vertigo, migraines and brain fog while taking the birth control pill Yasmin. I also know that my avalanche of symptoms eerily coincided with my first pill from a new pack. If they are related, I am most interested in what to do to get my hormones back on track in an effort to stop my vertigo.
This is all driving me crazy. A month ago I was absolutely normal. Now I am 100% disabled. I just want my life back.
Please help!

I have been taking adderall for over a year, but for about 10 months ago, I started taking wellbutrin also and since have had chronic problems with my ears, It's actually getting worse. Not so much ear infections, but the pressure is actually pushing inward. So i feel light headed just funky all day. Kind of like a head cold without the cold. I can't figure out which one is causing (i think wellbutrin) since that's when it began. But it could be the combination. Just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing this. I am 35 female.
thanks pam

I have been on Diovan for about 3 years and have had problems with my hair falling out. Was sent to an Endrochronologist and after a ton of tests, there was nothing wrong. After reading these posts and other web sites,I now see that it perhaps is the Diovan. I am taking some other meds but none that should cause this kind of a problem. I don't need to loose any more hair. I was on other BP medicines but the Diovan has been the best except the hair falling out and some insommina which was blamed on hormones or lack of hormones!

Been on 20 mg. Lipitor for 4 years. It brought my total cholesterol down from 290 to 190. Tolerated it well for awhile, then I started dragging. Last year, started having ringing in ears, dizziness and fatigue. Had MRI, MRA, heart CT scan, blood work, etc. and they could find nothing wrong. I have suspected Liptitor for awhile, but doctor was so proud that my cholesterol was going down, he wanted to increase dosage to 40 mg., I tried it for a week and felt worse. He told me to reduce it back to 20 mg. But now, I feel so bad with extreme debilitating fatigue and nausea. The ringing in my ears is driving me crazy. I have talked to several people who told me they felt the same way on Lipitor and when they got off, the felt so much better. I hate to give up the progress of getting my cholesterol down, but at what price? I just hope it gets out of my system real quick. Will try to keep cholesterol down by eating more healthy foods (I love red meat and fried chicken).

I was taking Lipitor (can't remember how long and what mg) and started feeling like I was continously in a fog and having memory problems. These were so bad that my GP sent me to a Neurologist for MRI and CT scans with results showing nothing wrong. I decided that this started after I went on the Lipitor and took myself off of it. The "fog has lifted" but I still have some memory problems. I am now taking Zetia and have started having muscle pains and cramps. I'm going to give up on cholesterol lowering medications. If I can't lower it with diet and exercise I'll just take my chances with the high cholesterol!

Hi Girls,
I haven't posted in a while, but I was wondering how everyone was doing with the weight gain. I have now been off Yasmin for 1 yr. I am feeling really great, I am now back to being able to run/walk or rollerblade 4-5 miles a day 4-5 times a week. My cycles are more normal than ever. Not exactly 28 days more like 38, but I'm ok with that.
The thing that is still getting me is that I not only can't lose weight, I'm still gaining it. I think I have now gained 40 lbs. I am taking vitamin b as well as women's one a day. Don't really want to take any more drugs though.
I had my thyroid checked when I was on the pill and going through the awful hell, had most of the side effects you have all posted, tingling, chest pains, anxiety, the list goes on. But they said thryoid normal and of course nothing wrong with me. Like most of you went to a zillion doctors about a yr. ago. But decided I was just going to give my body time to get back to normal.
Has anyone had similar problems with their weight. I just don't get it, I couldn't feel healthier, or be any healthier with my activity and lifestyle, but I just feel like I'm getting bigger and bigger, and according to the scale I'm right!
Any thoughts would be great. Silke how are you feeling?
Thanks,
Hill

A friend has been on the generic version of Zocor (simvastatin) for a couple of years. He is young (38) and now he can barely walk because his feet and ankles swell so badly he can't put on his shoes or pants. He is under the care of a VA hospital and they just keep sending him home, after running every test in the book, saying he will simply have to "live with it" and they can find "nothing wrong". Statin drugs cause muscle debilitation and the risks far outweigh the benefits, in my opinion. He has a slim build, doesn't eat fat and only takes medicine for high blood pressure. He does smoke.
I say all of you on Zocor need to go to legalzoom.com (I am not affiliated with them in any way), and discuss a possible class action lawsuit. I am really angry about this.

I am so glad I found this site. Since I have been on Lisinopril 5mg, I have experienced extreme fatigue, sweating, left side of my neck is sore and my left eyeball was swelling and I am getting floaties and little spider like webbs, sometimes itching of the eyes. I also have gained weight and have been so bloated I could not wear some of my clothes. I went to my eye doctor about my eye situation, he did all the tests necessary and could not find anything wrong with the eye, other than the swelling, he suggested sinus problems and referred me to my primary doctor. The primary doctor could find nothing wrong with my sinuses and referred me to the eye doctor!!!!!. I am drowsy a lot and just plain have no energy. The problems with my eye started when the doctor upped the dose from 5 to 10 mg. I have ringing in my ears to go along with everthing else. Of all the above I had none until I started on this rx. I was beginning to think I was on a downhill trip until I found this site. I cut the dosage from 10 to five and the swelling in the eye and the sinus pressure decreased. I will insist on being put on another rx for my b/p or I just will not take it,

I cannot believe I am reading all of this. Almost every sympton I have had. I am only 50 (Ha!) but had a heart-by-pass 5 years ago. I was put on 20 mg of Zocor since. In the last year I have had dizziness, memory loss and of course the muscle aches I have had since taking the Zocor five years ago. I could put up with the muscle aches as I thought "well the Zocor is saving me in other areas". Not anymmore- I can't take the dizzines, lapse of memory and fatigue all day long- I have been to several Neurologists, Blood Samples, Brain MRI's etc-etc- all with the same results- "there is nothing wrong with you"! Well there is- and I believe it is the Zocor- no, I'm convinced. This is my first day off the Zocor- I'm staying off it- hope I get better.

Off of Toprol
Re: Nov 26th entry: I visited my primary doctor after my cardiologist said my thryoid med was too high and that was the cause of my high BP. My cardio had put me on Toprol and I had some ugly side effects from it. Well, I gave my primary doc the hospital test results of my thyroid and he said, "But this is in the normal range. There's nothing wrong with your thyroid level." Ugh. Makes me question the cardiologist. I told my primary doc about the Toprol for heart palps, etc., and he took me off of it and onto Triamertine (sp?) which is not a beta blocker but a diurectic for high BP. I took 50 MG for a week, and visited my primary doc again. My BP was down to 100/something small. Can't remember. So he cut my dose of BP med in half. I'm still taking the lower dose of thyroid med until my primary doc can retest and get a handle on my true condition. Thyroid med takes up to 6 weeks to take affect, so it's too soon to test.
So now I don't really know what sent me to the ER with the high BP and arythmia - possibly a panic or anxiety attack. I have Xanax now for that, but have only taken it a couple of times. When I tried it, it pretty much made me sleep great, but don't want to become hooked on it.
So, I'm glad I'm off Toprol. I did not like it. I have a feeling my doc will eventually wean me off BP meds, as I'm losing weight, exercising, etc., to that end.
Oh, you definitely don't want to go off Toprol cold turkey. It can cause a heart attack, etc., is what I've read. I'm not a doctor!

I have been taking Advir 250/50 for about 8 months. I have noticed my mouth and throat have been burning and my voice feels and sounds like I have laryngitis. I have had cancer, so I went to a specialist to get my throat checked and they could find nothing wrong. I have seen another asthma doctor and he suggested it could be the Advair.

Hi everyone. My main question, in case you don't want to read my long post, is: what is a normal / average amount of time to have to wait after stopping Yasmin for symptoms to start to fade / disappear? And if some symptoms begin to lessen, but not others, should I be worried that Yasmin was not the cause of those problems?
I started taking Yasmin at the end of May in place of my previous birth control. About a month and a half later, I started having vision trouble--it was difficult to focus, as if everything was moving ever so slightly. This was worst when I wore my contacts, and my vision was also blurrier when wearing them. I immediately went to my eye doctor, but they found nothing wrong with my eyes physically, and said my perscription was correct. About a month after that, I started having random bouts of sudden depression--I'd just start crying out of nowhere, and I've never had any trouble with mood swings or uncontrolled emotions like that before. I found this site about two weeks ago, and asked my doctor about switching back to my previous birth control.
Already, I don't feel so crazy-emotional and like crying, which had been the most recent symptom. However, the eye problems still persist, and they're much scarier to me--I've never had issues like this before, either. I won't be able to see my eye doctor again for about a month, and every day of that month the problems don't go away I'll probably be freaking out. So, my intial questions remain: what would be a normal amount of time for all / most symptoms to lessen / vanish after stopping Yasmin? And is it normal for some symptoms to take longer to dissipate, or should they typically fade simultaneously?
Thank you,
Jillian

I received 2 intra-muscular injections of Kenalog (60mg total) on April 11, 2006 for an allergic skin rash that I had. I have been experiencing almost constant uterine bleeding ever since. My OBGYN has done every imaginable test and can find nothing wrong with me (thank God) so we think it is the Kenalog. It has already been over 4 months. When is this ever going to wear off? My blood pressure also went up significantly. I am so mad that I got those Kenalog shots. Kenalog is horrible! It should only be used for emergencies and not for a skin rash that would have gone away on its own.

I did have some pretty severe sinus and throat problems in the 1 month that i was on this pill. It still hasnt cleared completely. I have sore throat, dry throat, pain behind ears. My ENT did an endoscopy to check if i have acid reflux or post nasal drip. But there was nothing wrong there. So he has concluded that this might be because of hormonal prob. My family doc told me that before periods, my fluid retention might be going up and this can cause a feeling of a lump in throat and sinus problems. all docs have told me to wait till the hormones sort themselves out.

I was treated for a case of accute sinus infection in february of 2006 with Levaquin (750 mg for 10 days). About a week after the treatment (infection didn't go away...was put on a month of sulfameth which slowly worked), i woke up one morning with moderate back pain in lower left back. About 2 weeks later, my legs started tingling all the way up and down, including gluts and scrotum. A few days later, I started to experience random twitching of muscles in my legs. The twitching was constant and random throughout my legs, but also in some other muscles in my back, arms, and neck. After about a month, the twitching and tingling started to subside a bit. As the twitching subsided, i noticed a strange sensation in my left big toe. The sensation was a sort of weak feeling (as in the feeling of trying to make a fist when you first wake up). The sensation would come and go, but never went away totally. About a month ago, i noticed that the same sensation was occuring in my left thumb and two adjacent fingers. I still feel the effects today. I have had blood work and x-rays, with all coming out negative. I know my doctor thinks there is nothing wrong with me, but after doing some research, I'm pretty sure all this is due to the Levaquin. I am a 27 year old male, very healthy, excersise regularly. Has anyone else experienced this type of effect?

hi andiegags,
i can totally relate to what you are saying,i used to find that even on yasmin 14 days before my period was due my anxiety levels would sky rocket, i used to take diazepam for my anxiety but decided to stop taking it and learn to deal with my anxiety,it sounds easier said than done i know! the 1st step is to keep telling yourself that the feelings of anxiety are not important as there is nothing to be anxious about and to just keep thinking positively that it will go away, you are in no danger and there is nothing wrong. now i am off yasmin (6 weeks) i have had 2 periods,i still feel a little more anxious before my periods but now i know that i will i am prepared and it doesn't freak me out so much, i found that by using positive thinking techniques i was a ble to stop taking the diazepam and can now cope on my own as i did not want to rely on drugs to ease the symptoms because as far as i am concerned drugs started this in the 1st place (ie taking the yasmin)
best wishes to you.

my doctor just prescribed me with 50 mg of trazodone (once before bed), and 2mg Ativan as needed. I took an Ativan 3 hrs before my Trazodone. 3 hours after trazedone (12am), I went (waddled) to be and had my first good nights sleep in years. The problem was I had slept until 1pm. My husband tried to wake me up, but I guess I was a log. I am taking these for Anxiety/Panic attacks.I don't want to sleep my life away..should I switch to Paxil or something? My headaches are deep and i never get headaches. This is the second time taking them.

My mother's symptoms were similiar to ada's. My mother who has been on Lipitor for a number of years has just been hospitalized twice, to the doctor 8-10 times within a two week period and has been to the emergency room three times for severe back pain. All within a two week time period! After doing every test known to man, CT Scans, MRI, x-rays, bone scans, they were able to find absolutely nothing wrong. Yet her pain is so bad at times that she requires injections of morphine as well as percocet by mouth! The doctors have finally come to the conclusion that she's experiencing muscle spasms/pain which could be caused by taking lipitor! I am hoping that by stopping this horrid medication she will begin to recover from this awful experience. How can such a drug continue to be prescribed to people when side effects such as this occur? I am shocked to read all of the posts here about this drug. Does anyone know if the muscle pain ever goes away once the person stops taking lipitor?

I started Trinessa earlier last month and it was my first BCP. I've been on my period ever since i started it so I'm not sure if it is because of the pills. I started the placebo(period) pills and now my cramps are HORRIBLE and my period is even worse. Its been 27 days on my period and I'm STILL going strong!
Has anyone else had this problem or suggestions?
