My husband has been on Topamax for 3 months for migraines and I have noticed alot of changes in him. He is very dispondent, has a "don't care" attitude about everything, is very depressed, and has even mentioned thoughts of suicide! This is not him! He has quit taking it today and hopefully I will have my husband back soon!!

I have been on Advair for almost 2 months and have gained 7 pounds. My Albuterol wasn't controlling my asthma so therefore, I was prescribed Advair. Since it is a type of steroid I was wondering if this was the reason for the weight gain. It seemed as if the weight gain started almost immediately after given the prescription. I have noticed alot of hypertension. My asthma is still not under control so I am going to go off Advair and see what happens. Of course, I will keep my doctor informed and seek alternate medications. I

I noticed alot of people who are troubled by symptoms in the first 3 months of taking the pill. With any pill you are messing arround with your hormones and it's going to cause side effects untill your body can become accostomed to the new levels. Most doctors will tell you to stick it out for 3 months unless the pill is seriously not working (the first one i tried, Ovcon, didn't do a thing to lessen my insanely heavy periods so i switched to Yasmin after two months). Likewise, every person's body reacts differently to hormones. some people are extreemly sensitive while other's are not. Different pills usually offer different combinations of two hormones, so it might take some time to figure out what hormones your body reacts to the best. For me, Yasmin has worked very well. i did have a little weight gain but eating right and exercising keeps it in control now. the biggest side effect that i notice is vaginal dryness but most pills will cause that. In my opinion, don't be discouraged by some of the remarks here if you are about to try yasmin: make your own decision. It might turn out that it's the perfect pill for you or it may turn out not to be. You'll never know until you try, I have several friends who are on it and are very happy with it and others who have switched off of it and are happier with another pill.

hi everyone,

I want to thank everyone on this site. I thought I was going crazy.
It is pretty bad when you think you can trust a drug to help you and even though it does some of the oppisite.
Had two kids, became asthmactic from weight gain, put on flovent, then lost weight 54lbs. then got pregnant again and the asthma came back but stronger so my Dr. put me on Advair.
I am 5 feet 8 inches 227lbs. and as long as I am that heavy I can't breath right.
tried exercising. paid $ 8000.00 for tummy procedure. Went from 213lbs to 206lbs in one hour but the next day i gained 10lbs. back and I couldn't understand why but now I do.
I always have sharp pains in my arms and my legs as well asevere headaches.
I am always hungry and my husband always says to me. " you just paid out all that money and you are now eating alot more.
So after awhile i noticed alot of swelling around my face and my tummy more now and my legs.
So I went to my Dr. and told him about this and he put me on fluid pills 1 a day. well that didn't work. so we went up to 2 a day.
Then three on my own. Well be very carful I almost killed myself. I almost suffered cardiac heart failure all because of this avdair and no one not even an Enternal Medicine Dr.
new the advair could have such a bad side effect for swelling.

I was diagnosed with asthma in March 2003 and given Singulair. I have never been on any long term rx before. I asked about weight gain when I was given rx. I was told it was not a side effect. Well, I have gained about 12 lbs. since I've been on Singulair and my eating habits have stayed basically the same. I have also recently noticed alot of itching. I had been blaming that on poison ivy I had and mosquito bites since they are really bad this year. But I will be calling dr on Monday morning for an appt to discusss this. I do not take any other medications.
