I have been on this med (25 mg) for eight days to treat SSRI resistant depression. Three days ago I developed flu like symptoms, with fever and vomiting. While I have hypertension I have also seen an increase in my BP even though I am taking my BP medications. However the most difficult to deal with side effect is extreme tooth pain that started when the flu symptoms did. It is so painful I have to eat soft foods. I have had no dental problems in over 25 years. Has anyone else had this effect?

I've been taking trileptal for a only a couple of days, but I've had an immediate onset of night terrors in addition to having constant joint pain. I've noticed that these are commonly listed side effects.
From reading the posted comments, I noticed that many people reported experiencing losing sensation in their tongue. After taking geodon for five years, I have started experiencing something similar in that I lose feeling in my tongue, but it also appears to swell or otherwise make it difficult or impossible to breathe.
I've taken cogentin (sp?) to help with this, but it hasn't really made a difference. The numb tongue and inability to breathe seem to be brought on by anxiety and although are similar to anxiety attacks, tend to be a little scarier as my tongue literally blocks off my esophogus (sp) making it (sometimes) impossible to breathe.
I started taking trileptal to eventually be weened off the geodon as not being able to breathe isn't really an option. Can somebody p.m. or post a reply to let me know whether the loss of sensation in their tongue is just that, or if it is accompanied by trouble breathing?
Thanks!

I took the recommended dose for the first month. I felt really good (except the dreams) Then I suddenly got very depressed, lost feeling in my tongue, could not sleep. I felt horrible and would just go to bed but never really slept like I was in La La land. I cut the dosage in half which helped alittle and eventually cut it to 1/2 pill a day.The headache started then. I quit smoking for 2 months. I felt so depressed I started having 2 cigs a day. I felt less depressed as it was at least something I could look forward to. It has been a month since I stopped taking the Chantix but I still have the nasty taste in my mouth and numb tongue. The stuff works but I don't know that it is worth the side effects. Pizer blames all the side effects on withdraw from the nicotine but I have heard too many horror stories!

I have been slowly increasing my dose of trileptal over a week and a half of taking it- and I am only on 450 mg right now- But I have an extreme light sensitive headache for at least a week now; along with lowsy appetite; numb tongue; insomnia; extreme fatige during the day- massive lethargy; and a smashing frontal headache- alot like a csf tear headache. I am borderline personality- possibly bi polar- and also have the intense seizure like muscle jerks... Is this normal? I don't feel as moody- as the ability to focus on such an emotion is not possible- it is as if I am numb...Please help....

I was put on 10mg. Prednisone 5 times a day by my rheumatolgist. This past Wed. I had to go to my GP doctor because under my right armpit it was red & swollen 2 inches high and 5 inches across. I was in agony. He flipped when saw how much Prednisone I was taking. He said that is what caused my armpit problem. He could not drain my armpit because it was too hard. That was when I just went to pieces because I wanted some relief. He put me on antibiotics and pain meds. He noted a yellow spot in the corner of both eyes and amde an appt. with an optomolgist. He told me how to taper off of Prednisone and I will go back next week. It has been 2 days since that visit and here are my new problems: white bumps on my tongue, numb tongue and lips, pus sores in my nose, bloating, bright red spots on my thighs, bruises I can't explain, moonface, pain under my rib area, I could eat eat our house like a termite, not sleeping, sweating. My husband half expects me to grow a new leg or develop leposy or something. I had no idea a drug could do so much damage so quickly.Who knows what new side effect I can get tomorrow.

I've been on Trileptal for about a month now and am up to 900 mg, though I expect to come down from this dose because of the dizziness it causes. I am also troubled by a numb tongue, bad taste in my mouth, and swollen lips. One thing I'm experiencing that I haven't read about yet is an increase in the white part of certain fingernails--the white area at the tips of both ring fingers has doubled. At first I thought this might be due to kidney disease, but now I'm wondering if it's simply due to decreased blood supply to my fingers, which do feel a little numb. I'd appreciate anyone's feedback on this.
