This site is helpful knowing that its not just me. I got my IUD around march. My fiance & I got engaged a month before I had it put in. I just got into nursing school, so pregnancy is not an option!
During this time I was feeling

Depressed

Anxious

Difficulty concentrating

30lb Weight gain

Decrease desire of wanting to kiss

An appetite that doesn't seem to be satisfied.

Vaginal ithcing (feels like a yeast infection)
I blame the itching entirely on Mirena. I haven't had sex with my fiance (waiting after we exchange our vowes), so its not because he is being unfaithful. Its sooo uncomfortable.
As far as the weight gain, I have been feeling really guilty, loss of self-control, not to mention the guilt that follows. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one. In speaking with other ladies who have had an IUD. I can't blame Mirena entirely. I've heard pro's & cons.

SO far 7 months with this IUD. I think I'm going to take it out after reading all of these blogs & my own experiences. I thought I should give it more time but I'm getting married soon & I don't fit my wedding dress.

Has anyone had long term side effects after taking Wellbutrin. I was on ot for two years it helped with my anxiety and energy levels a lot. When the doctor put my dose to 300 mg I had severe muscle pain and swelling in hands, feet, ankles, legs it went down after I went back to 150mg. I tried to up my dose but the same thing happened. After two years of wellbutrin I developed severe headaches feels more like head pressure so I went off wellbutrin. would still have muscle pain and swelling from time to time. started developing severe pain in legs and now everywhere along with muscle twitches and muscle loss. I now am 32 and have severe memory problems and no doctor knows what is going on with me. Has anyone had anything like this or heard of anyone with these problems.

Hello to everyone, I just came home from a parent teacher conference for my son who is 7 yrs. old, and heard the same old thing, "he is restless, impulsive and has a short attention span". He has been taking Singulair for about 3 yrs.. Since he has started school I have had these complaints and have also been told he displays symptoms of ADHD, which ironically has been for the last 3 years. Like any parent, I question" if I am doing something wrong with my parenting, is his diet good, etc. etc.", I am also a nurse, I realize that medications are needed and beneficial in some circumstances, however I firmly believe and was taught in nursing school that medication is last resort. That being said, I have been very adament about NOT giving my son ADHD medication after doing alot of research on the different meds and their side effects. So, we started him on all natural vitamins, changed his diet some ( kids got to have candy once in a while) and started a more structured routine( the best we can since we both work) and also enrolled him in Sylvan. The teacher says there is a 50% improvement but he is still impulsive and still does not pay attention like he "COULD", again suggesting he needs ADHD meds. I came home in tears and started to do more research online to see what else can I do besides putting him on psych meds?....Then I came accross this site, I just want to cry after reading all these posts. I wonder, could this be his problem, the Singulair?.. About a year ago he use to get up in the middle of the night, 5 out of 7 complaining of nightmares, hearing things at times, headaches, decreased appetite, stomach upset, all AT TIMES, not all the time so I never thought alot about side effects of Singulair. When the school started complaining I did look at side effects of Singulair and seen HYPERACTIVITY and mentioned it to his pediatrician and she shrugged it off saying she never heard of it being a problem. She's a great MD so I listened to her because his asthma was bad when he was younger and it is now under control. But then I think maybe he is outgrowing the asthma. I am afraid to stop Singulair and him have breathing problems again but then I can't help this strong feeling in my heart that says this may have been his problem with everything else all along. We are going to stop the Singulair tonight and see what happens. If anyone else has a child with asthma any suggestions for alternative treatment would be appreciated. I already know what's out there but sometimes it's nice to hear from another parent going through similar situs. Thanks for reading, Bobbie

I am a 31 year old mother of 3 boys. I had my Mirena inserted in June 2006 at my Dr's suggestion to trying a "worry free" birthcontrol. I had it inserted while on my cycle & it hurt pretty bad. I almost passed out & it took the Dr almost 30 mins to do the procedure because I wasn't dilating. I cramped for a couple days afterwards and then that was it............the beginning of the worst decision I ever made for my body! Since I've had my Mirena in, I've been back to the OB/GYN 4 times with pain & complications. I also have not had a period or any bleeding at all since insertation. About 1 month post insertation I had to go to the ER because I developed a Cyst on my Ovary that had ruptured. A pain VERY simular to labor! I visited the GYN Dr again at about 6 months after insertation to make sure it was in place & because of pain and back aches/cramps & I had developed more cysts on my ovaries. The Dr said that 20% of women who have the Mirena develop these Cysts. Shortly after that visit another one ruptured. At 9 months after insertation, I began experiencing pain with intercourse, still was cramping, having headaches and I went back to the Dr. The Doc said everything "looked" fine. But I was NOT fine......I had started gaining weight slowly about 2 months after insertation & have not STOPPED! My GYN Dr keeps saying that it's all in my head & can't find cause to my issues, his Diagnosis... Pelvic pain & Over Eating.

Today, I have had my Mirena in for almost 2 years and here's what I have been experiencing:

ME----------------------------------------------
Weight Gain---60lbs to date
Daily back aches---Constantly taking Ibuprofen & Tylenol
Depression---Family Dr gave me Prozac last month
Anxiety---Family Dr gave me Xanax last month too.
"Feel Like I losing my Mind" feeling
Ovarian Cysts---was given Naproxen by OB Dr
Enlarged Breasts--went from a C cup to a DD cup (1st side effect I noticed)
Acne---developed on my back
Headaches---Lots of them!
Night Sweats/Excessive Sweating
Hot Flashes
Mood Swings---(Bad!)
Dizziness

HUSBAND-------------------------------------
Says "That D*mn thing is Sticking me" & he's always "sore"

Due to Insurance issues I was not able to have it removed. My employer at that time did not cover BC. My family DR has been my Best Friend lately and Tells me to have it removed. He feels that it is what is causing all my problems and that suggestion was also recommended by the ER DR. I saw last month with my Anxiety attack.

I recently became eligable for Ins through my new employer & call my Dr yesterday to have it removed and to go back on the pill. I made my Appt for April 22nd.

BUT.......................................they called me today & told me that before I can have it removed I have to come in for a "Consultation" with my OB/GYN DR and explain to him WHY I want to have it removed, so we can "TALK". ARE YOU SERIOUS??? I explained why, all that I've been through, the weight gain, the past visits to them should be reason enough. I was told that I'm the "ONLY" patient who has had/mentioned these problems and if my Family Doc had any test or any records that support why I should have it removed I should bring it with me. I'M SHOCKED at their answers and you better believe My hubby & I are going to that "TALK with the Doc" next Wednesday! I Will have it removed on the 22nd!

I've done alot of research on my Mirena lately & I wanted to tell my story about my "Mirena Struggle". I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who has experienced these side effects and that I wasn't really losing my mind. I hope that after removal, I can get my life back and my health back in order. I wish you all the best in your decisions and I will keep you posted on my "recovery".

My 4 year old has been on Singulair for about 6 months or so. He was put on it by his ENT Dr. because he kept getting sinus infections due to his allergies. He also takes zyrtec on the really bad days. We are seeing so many of the same symptoms I just spent the last thirty minutes reading with my jaw to the floor. As He chewed his pill tonight my husband was telling me what he had heard on the news today. I immediately got online to see what I could find. WOW! I would have never thought this could possible be the cause for the angry outbursts, the tossing and turning until 11 pm many nights, the out of control, on the floor kicking and screaming, hitting, throwing anything in his way as he stomps off to his "time out" for throwing this type of tantrum. Could the Singulair really be the culprit? In a way I almost hope this is the case, otherwise we will have to continue with our recent discussions of getting him in to see a Psychiatrist.
I graduate nursing school in 5 weeks and have learned about many types of medications and all the "common" side effects of them. I never would have put two and two together that these behaviors could have been linked to an allergy medication So, tomorrow night we start an experiment and will not give the Singulair. We'll see what happens...

Hi all.

I just found this site and all of your posts. I *never* connected my Mirena with all the health issues I've been having. I've had the Mirena in since about August/September 2006. Within 6 months I started having side effects. Due to other things going on in my life I thought my problems were related.

Now I am seriously thinking it's all related to the IUD. I've had chronic fatigue, increased hair falling out, acne that won't go away, uterine cramping, pelvic sensitivity, mood swings, ridiculous irritability, decreased focus and concentration, increase in my depression, weight gain of about 50 pounds within 1 year, decreased libido down to next to nothing, increase in pain and length and frequency of migraines, and that annoying string. I seriously never related all these things to the Mirena. In fact, if you had asked me a week ago, I would have raved about it and sung it's praises. I do love that I don't have to worry about pregnancy and not having to think about the birth control every day and so on. I also love, love, love that I don't have a period at all but for maybe 2 times a year.

I have sought the help of a Doctor in trying to figure out what all these symptoms might mean. This is not the same doc who inserted the IUD, she quit the practice. My new doctor at first thought my thyroid must be messed up so we had it tested. Ummmm, nope. Then she did some more thinking about it and had me tested for diabetes. Nope again!

I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired and I think I want this fool thing taken out. I'd rather have periods again than have all these other things wrong with me. I'm normally very energetic almost to the point of being hyper and I now sleep about 16 hours a day. I'm not being a good parent to my daughters, and I'm trying to go to Nursing school and it's wrecking my ability to make it to class and get homework done. At this point I think the worse thing that can happen is I have it removed and nothing changes and I'm really sick with something we haven't identified. Best case scenario, it fixes the majority of these problems. I don't expect some things to go away. I've always had migraines, but maybe they will be less severe. I've had depression for as long as I can remember but maybe now it will go back to being controlled as it was before. I hope to have my energy increase again and to gain my focus and concentration.

I can't tell you just how incredibly thrilled I am for having stumbled onto this website and to be able to read all your comments and thoughts. Even though we don't know each other and we're likely spread all over the United States, and perhaps other countries, we've managed to come together and share. Thank you all.

Clarissa S.

I wish I could turn back time and Not get that damn kenalog shot. Since August 2006 I have gone through dizziness, nausea, blurred vision, blood sugar imbalance, pitts in some areas the shots were given, 10 pound weight loss in one week, flushed skin, anxiety especially throughout the night when sleeping, poison feeling, hot and painful hands and cold feet, terrible taste in mouth. I have seen numerous doctors in one month. I have been in the hospital twice. I was told to see a therapist since my tests showed negative.
Finally, I found a wonderful doctor who performs muscle tests (shows what vitamin your deficient in and fixes the problem with supplements) She has improved my condition greatly. I believe I would be living handicapped without her or maybe would not even be living the way my body started to shut down. I could not work and dropped out of nursing school (I had a scholarship). I will pass her number on if anyone is interested Dr.******
