I was diagnosed with adult allergic asthma one year ago at 38 years old. I started having problems breathing ONLY AT NIGHT on occasion and palpitations. Had a physical and ekg, totally normal. Went to allergist and they said I have alot of allergies and diagnosed me with the asthma. Funny thing, weeks before I niked 20 miles, hiked 12 miles, canoed 3 miles, played golf in a 3 day span and no problems. Since they told me this and started me on advair I haven't been able to jog more than 2 miles or bike more than 8 to 10.
Its very strange indeed, I have gotten more paranoid feelings when just get a little out of breath, and sometimes cant keep still in a car or sitting down.
I cut back on sugar, sodium and started exercising a little every day, only 15 minutes. But came down with a cold recently and back to square one. I am trying to take the advair only ONCE a day instead of twice and almost feel withdrawal symptoms like shakiness, paranoia, irritability. Does anyone have any idea about this? I am really confused! Thanks... J

Hey to All.
I know that the ALA study got everyone upset and I am happy we all emailed her.We all pretty much got the same response from Heather, defending the study and the integrity of the results. If only this investigation would conclude!
The Merck company contacted our Senator and indicated there was a conclusion and then ,they never got back to her before the weekend.I will have news early in the week. Please everyone just keep on voicing your concerns by reaching out any way you can.Sometimes it seems unbearable and I have to take a break with the communications on this website but,I continue my communication with my local contacts and the FDA.
I would love quick results and everyone would love this to get the publicity this story deserves but,if you look at how far we have come getting attention focused on this drug it is amazing.
This website has been here for years and people have complained and nothing has been accomplished until now.Our system is so broken it will take time to fix it.Drugs get approved everyday and when they are put out for multi use,the population benefit -risk ratio changes and there is little oversight on this matter.
The problem is much bigger than just notification of updated side effects, which indeed is why our son died from this drug.It is reporting adverse events to the FDA and the drug company and following up on your report. We can only fight within the system of the government that is in place at the moment and push for change to take place in there programs.
This is what has take place as of this year,The FDA's new 'Safe Use "iniative(which when it gets further developed will increase our partnerships with physicians as well as patients) and the July 2008 AAM report" Education in Safe and Effective Prescribing Practices" which aims to address the education of the next generation of physicians on how to best use medicines. This may help in notification practices and over prescribing but, we want the drug companies to lose the unprecedented control over the clinical research and and evaluation of there own drugs. What other company in the USA, gets to self regulate.Change will come ,we have asked for accountability by having a signature exchange when new and updated side effects are found.Full disclosure of all reported adverse events to doctors from the company representatives, with signature required upon full understanding of the benefit -risk ratio change. A prescriber should know all the good and the bad about a medicine they have chosen to dispense,if not then they should not be able to dispense it.If we were not knowledgeable about selling mushrooms and we sold the poisonous ones ,because we did not take the time it would take to educate ourselves about them, would we not be legally responsible for our actions.
Accountability is what we are asking for and maybe the candyland doctor prescribing practices would stop. They seem to ,not have a responsibility to their patients and the company has no responsibility to the prescribers,so who is responsible for our safety?
I will keep fighting for real change and all you people must do the same ,make an appointment with your representatives and have them contact our Congress representative of NY,maybe with enough onboard we can get the legislation we need to put a law in place for proper notification practices.Kirsten E. Gillibrand Member of the US House of Representatives 120 Cannon House Office Builing Washington, D.C. 20515
This is how change is made ,if you want to help please go forward and do this and don't stop until they listen.I am always willing to do whatever I can,it is physically exhausting and sometimes I just have to step away but, my daily review of this site has not stopped and my fight will continue.Dave and I sit here and our hearts just break for all but, we need people to push their Representatives they do work for the people just remind them of that.Any one with questions or that wants to communicate via private email just ask for my email address or phone number or leave me yours and a time and I will be sure to contact you,Kate M.

I would like to stop taking paxil, I have been on it for 3 yrs. When I skip my medicine I get what feels like electrical shocks in my neck & head. I wasnt sure if I had a pinched nerve at 1st but began to associate this with the event that I had not taken my meds. I also have onset of panic attacks & rapid heart, & terrible terrible forgetfulness, as to even what cabinet I would like to open, I open the wrong one, go into the wrong doorway, wrong driveway. I am very concerned. I have told my Dr. that I would like to get off this Paxil but Ive been told that it would be best since I was suffering from anxiety attacks in past. I would like to be committed to be able to handle the withdrawls. If anyone has been successful in stopping Paxil and now feels pretty back to normal, please let me know. Thanks

I have been on Lisinopril for approx 3 mths. It was prescribed for additional swelling in my feet. The Dr said along with my other two BP reducing meds this would help w/the swelling. After 6 weeks on the medication, I develpped a constant dry hacking cough that caused me to see stars, and on occassion, I "leaked" and started wearing bladder control pads. The cough could wake me out of a sound sleep with no warning. Sometimes I coughed so hard, the back of my neck would hurt. I didn't make the connection to the Lisinopril, becasue I had been on it for 6 weeks. I had a recheck w/my Dr 12/12/06 and told her of the cough. She immediatly told me to stop taking the Lisinopril. I was abit taken aback, just cold turkey I asked her. Yes, she said, in a few days you'll thank me for it. It's only been two days, and I see no difference yet.......guess it has to work it's way out of my system. As a "PS" to the side affects, the manufactor should add, "possible DELAYED cough my result"

I have used advair for about 5 months and it has significantly imporved my capacity to breathe without the usual symtoms of my asthma controlling my life. On occassion I still have to use an inhaler. I brush my teeth and rinse with Listerine after each enhalation and this seems to control the thrush. I have, however experienced some soreness in the right Kidney and my urine has a strong order to it. this comes and goes.

Just a question to the ladies off of Yasmin... When did you get your period after getting off the pill. I started taking Yasmin on February 27th and when my period actually stopped was March 27th. So I had my period for a month, cramping & sharp pain in my ankles/feet, bloating & weight gain, insomnia, and along with many other side effects, I decided to stop taking the pill all together. I am hoping that it comes soon. (Never thought I would WANT my period to come, haha!) After taking the pill I am dealing with shooting pain in my legs from my ankle to my thigh on occassion. But everything is getting better atleast! Thanks for the help on my previous inquiry.

I've just started taking Yasmin on February 27th 2006. My periods are always normal as far as how long I have them. Usually about 4-5 days MAX. Yasmin was really great for my cramping. I noticed I didnt have any to be honest. But It is now March 9th and I am still heavily on my period. That is 11 days now and it doesn't look like it's getting any lighter. I know it has to be a result of the pill because I have NEVER had this with any other birth control, or even off birth control. I've read alot of people saying they had lighter periods, but has this happened to any others? It is really worrying me. I am also having a horrible time sleeping. I feel tired constantly and I am tossing and turning all through the night. More so I would like to know about the longer periods and if it is normal. "

I've had a slight irregularity in my heart beat upon occassion. I started taking Omeprazole about two weeks ago, after using Prilosec for the past 6 years. My heartbeat has become irregular and I'm having the heart Palpitations others have mentioned. I've also started to have trouble with pimples. It's been 30 years since I worried about pimples.
