I am at the end of my first pack of pills, YAZ.
I have a condition called Chiari and I also suffer from hormonal migraines. I started getting migraines on Thursday before I was to start my period on Sunday.
The difference is, not only did I get my typical migraines, I also became extremely nauseous. I was violently ill on Thursday night after taking my migraine pills (a common, weekly occurrence). I made it to work on Friday but ended up going straight home at 5pm.
I spent the entire weekend on my couch, with a cold wet washcloth on my face. I used a spray bottle to wet my hair to keep my head cool. The nausea never went away until I actually started Sunday afternoon.

My college age daughter was diagnosed with allergies and asthma last winter. She had a series of allergy test and results were grasses, dust mites, mold, cats, dogs feathers. Her main complaint was shorness of breath during exercise, boxing and lately tennis. She is a very healthy young lady that played tennis, ate healthy and stayed away from pop and junk food. This sudden breathing issue is baftling. She was put on Singular and the lowest dose of Advair. For 9 months she has been taking these meds and they don't seem to help. What's more baffling is that 6 months ago she developed an eye irritation, itching, swelling and redness of the eye lid. She has see 3 opthalmologists and 1 cornea specialist. They've all said it's "dry eye". Fine, but what is the cause.
I am one to read all the package inserts to all medications. As a professional, having sat on two Institutional Review Board for Animal and Medical Research at Henry Ford Hospital, I am well aware of all the possible side effects that can arrise with medications.
Recently I read up on Singular, I am confinced that there is a definite correlation of the eye problem with the Singular. I have told all the doctors and non seemed to want to speak with the allergist or work with him, or even consider that this is a possibility.
I intend to have her stop this medication and hope and pray that this will problem will cease. If any one has had a similar occurance with Singular, please respond.

I was perscribed Allese about a year ago, but my insurance only covers generic medicine. So i was put on Lutera for about 8 months. Just recently the pharmacist said that my new pill would be Sronyx and honestly, i dont trust it as much. My headaches are becoming very severe and almost a daily occurance now plus i've heard that its not as effective.
my period doesn't come on the sugar-pill days... it always comes about a week before. my doctor reccomended this: continuously taking Sronyx and skipping the sugar-pill days. I move from the end of the white pills on week three right to the beginning of a new pack. lately its helped a lot. the continuousy of it is really helping i think. so thats my suggesting to anyone whos having trouble.

I just recently found this site and am very thankful I did. Has anyone ever even heard of someone being prescribed 1000mg oral prednisone for 7 days, followed by 500 mg oral prednisone for 7 days for a one day occurance of optic neuritis. It happened to my father and he died 3 weeks later. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can help me make sense of this dosage.

I have been reading all the comments and I can't help wondering if I am atypical, but I have not had any of these side effects. In fact the only thing that Lisinopril has done for me is to lower my bp. I was 130 over 90 and now 116 over 78, so it sure works for me!

I've been using the NuvaRing for about nine months. I had used it about 3 yrs ago for a 1.5 yr period. At first I noticed similar symptons to the first time that I used it- very intolerant to alcohol, slightly depressed, naseaus frequently. But wasn't too concerned- I have a number of stomach problems, so I though that it just was agrivating that, and didn't worry too much. Then last month, my period came 20days after the previous, for about 15 days, with extreme itchness around my vulva. (Before going on the ring I would get my period every 33-35 days for about 3 days-no cramping, which increased to 30days/8-9 day length with light cramping on the ring) Now again, 13 days after I put a new Ring in I got my period again- really heavy. I'm going to try and see my gyno this week about it.
The most concerning thing is that my Cholesterol has increased 30 pts since last year- I'm practically vegan- only eating cheese on a rare ocassion, an active rock climber and road biker, and eat less cheese then last year, so it's a drastic increase. Also, my Triglyceride level was high- which I have never experienced before.
Also- about 4 months into using the ring I had an ovarian cyst pop in me. It was a random occurance that I ended up in the ER for and had never had anything like that occur before- can't say for-sure if it's related, but it was really scary and I couldn't move for about a month of my life.

Just a follow-up from post #36464 that I submitted on January 17. My husband has been off of Lisinopril for almost 3 weeks and his eye problems have almost completely cleared up. This is the longest his vision has went without another floater occurance or bleeding in his eye. His memory is also improving and he has not had anymore moments of confusion. We're keeping our fingers crossed that this cures his medical problems. I really believe that Lisinopril is a poison and needs to be taken off the market.

About a month ago I took Levaquin for a bacterial infection. It was taken for a painfully infected hair follicle on my face. After 4 days of the med (Levequin) I woke one morning with pain and swelling in my legs and feet, as well as generalized swelling in my entire body. I had a feeling of "brain fog". A year prior to this occurance I had been admitted to the hospital with a bacterial pneumonia at which time I was medicated with Tequin. After that I sufferred with swelling and pain in my joints and tingling and numbness in my hands and arm that lasted approximately 6-7 months. At that time I did not relate it to the drug Tequin. I assumed it was due to age and being over weight (56y/o and 190lb. at 5' 3". However It did get better and I was only left with a loud click in my knee and tingling in my arms and hands. I went to the Chiropractor for some relief of those syptoms, until a month ago when it suddenly returned after using Levaquin for 4 days. I am experiencing pain mostly in my lower extremities. It feel as though the muscles and tendons are very tight at times and at other times they feel unstable with burning and pain alternating from one area to another, sometimes the left side, sometimes the knees sometimes the ankles and feet. I have to be very careful when I stand up to walk to get my balance and stabilize my postion so I don't tear anything with sudden movement or chage of direction. I limp most of the time depending on which extremity it affects at the time. It seems to be affected by the barometric pressure also.

I had two cortisone shots in my foot for relief from plantar fascitis. My doctor never warned me of the side effects, nor told me the name of what I was getting (just "cortisone")! I've had THREE periods in ONE month! That is *very* unusual for me, so unusual that it scared me into researching the shots I'd been given. Guess what!? Kenalog...also known as "triamcinolone acetonide."
What's worse is that I'd had numerous (30-40) shots of the SAME STUFF in my scalp for psoriasis in between the time I had the shots in my foot...neither doctor bothered to ask me if I was currently taking anything else, or had any other injections, or at least tell me about the side effects!
I am pumped so full of this stuff that I am scared I'll never stop bleeding. Headaches, back pain, abdominal cramps, abnormal vaginal bleeding, and a yeast infection to top it all off!
BEWARE OF KENALOG!!

I was on Advair for almost three weeks. Within the first few days, I thought it was helping. Then I started having really bad problems with acid reflux, throat irritation/hoarseness, a dry cough, need for nearly constant throat clearing, and tightness in the throat. It also seemed like the Advair was getting less effective in helping my breathing. I ended up going to a asthma specialist. In addition to asthma, I found out I may also have this other condition called Vocal Cord Dysfunction (VCD). VCD is commonly mistaken for asthma as the symptoms and triggers are very similar. Also, there is a fairly high rate of co-occurance with asthma and some literature even suggests having asthma predisposes one for developing VCD (having GERD and allergic rhinitis also appear to be triggers). In one study, 56% of individuals with "severe" asthma were found to also have this condition. Another 10% were found to not even have asthma. The point in talking about all this is that I think in my case taking Advair significantly exacerbated my symptoms of VCD. M y doctor's response was to put me on prednisone when the Advair didn't work. It seems like lots of people posted concerns about similar side effects to mine and some even noted they were having more trouble breathing. They might want to look into this condition. I have been takingSulfameth/trimethoprim 800/180 tabs and the pharmacist pamplet said to call my doctor with any occurance of sore throat. I have taken a total of 4 tablets 2/day and woke up with a terrible sore throat and a headache later in the day only to call my Dr. and have them tell me that this is NOT a side effect and they want me to come in for a throat culture. Honestly I'm a little Freaked out because of the risk of Stevens-Johnson's Syndrome that makes your skin peel off and can make you go blind.

This drug will lower your blood pressure, and steal your health and happiness in return. Is it worth it? It's hard to imagine when there are alternatives.
From both personal experience as well as reading this website, lisinopril is linked to depression and anxiety. It boils my blood to find doctors adding Zoloft for this, when there are other blood pressure medication that don't have 57 pages of complaints against them.
In my case, I became extemely agitated, having the feeling that something was wrong in my abdomen and getting worse every day. My doctor prescribed Paxil, which calmed me down, but I felt didn't address the root of my (abdominal) dysfunction and I didn't need the extra complications of Paxil added to my situation. I decided instead to quit the lisinopril, though by the time I figured that out, it had already done long term damage.
Lisinopril is also linked to weight gain and energy/metabolism and fat burning problems. Poor fat metabolism is closely linked with diabetes.
It seems to me that after loosing control of fat burning, your glucose control mechanisms will get overloaded and be the next to fail. The next thing you know your doctor will be telling you about concern over diabetes. Mine did, and as another poster noted in a similar occurance, there is no diabetes in my family history. Further, I don't have a sweet tooth, and don't eat any refined starches either.
Lisinopril is linked with lung troubles; the cough is known by most doctors. Of course, lung problems make it even more difficult to burn fat. (In my case, I had the cough for 1 and 1/2 years after I quit lisinopril, which I only took for 3 months for borderline hypertension.)
Basically, if you catch the side effects of this medicine, you will be several steps closer to diabetes.
People who catch the side effects seem to take varying amounts of time to succumb to lisinopril. From reading this website, it can take anywhere from immediately to 2 years before the first side effect is noticed. (In my case it took only 2 months, but my doctors refused to suspect the lisinopril, so I stayed for on it 1 more month while it ate away at my health.)
Some never seem to get the side effects, or they get one but manage to control it for years and years. To them I say, more power to you! (Still, though, be suspicious of lisinopril if you start heading toward diabetes).
Many people continue to take lisinopril even after the first side effect appears. (I did.) I think this is a huge mistake - stop taking any med when it interferes with some major organ & function, like lungs & breathing!!
At the time I was on lisinopril, I didn't know these problems were side effects, however, I now know to suspect any drug that has this number of complaints! Now I'm thinking: Try quitting such a drug as a first alternative instead of adding Zoloft or Paxil, even if it has been working fine for a years.
Over time, I have personally found the following natural remedies helpful for me in combatting the lisinopril-caused damage:
* zinc - for the lungs/cough
* manganese - for digestive function and sexual function
* vit-b complex - for energy
* extra biotin - for lungs & energy
* chromium (not too much though) - for energy
* L-Carnitine (aka vit-T) - for fat metabolism
* L-Glutamine - for digestive repair
* Calcium/Magnesium - for digestive function & for bp
(Note that remedies to help diabetics have many of these ingredients.)
Recently, I also have passed a number of gallstones, and am not sure how they are related to the lisinopril and its side effects and conditions. I suspect they pre-existed my lisinopril usage, however, I first started having the gallstone pains (on my right side) while actually on lisinopril, so it at least aggrevated the problem. I have been using the olive oil natural treatment to flush the stones.
As always, best of luck to all.

I took it for about 2 weeks for an unusual occurance of hives brought on by stress. I immediately started to retain water and gain weight. It did something to my metabolism, because I gained 15 lbs. in about 3 weeks and top off at a 30 lb. weight gain over 3 months. I didn't start to lose it until about 3 years later.

I'am 14 years old and had HSP. My doctor put me on 50 mg day of prednisone and gradually came down for two weeks. Had a re occurance, and I was put on 60 mg a day, and came down from that. I was on this med for 4 weeks, and it was a nightmare, which I had plenty of when I slept. I was very active prior to the HSP and my doctor now tells me it will be about four months until the prednisone leaves my body. That is one month for each week on prednisone. Anyone else been informed of this time period?

I have severe allergies and was prescribed 30 days of Levaquin for chronic sinusitis. After months of ineffective treatments, this drug is a godsend. I have not had any terrible side effects. I did have night sweats early on, but I can't help but think it was my body fighting the infection since I tend to sweat a lot while breaking a fever. I did get a yeast infection, but that is a common occurance when you are taking antibiotics for a long period of time. Many people have asked what happened to amoxicillin and such? Frankly it's people like most of you who just stop taking their medicine without speaking to their doctors. Bacteria have become resistant to the older drugs which is why they have developed stronger ones which unfortunately have more side effects.

I've never written on a blog in my life, and now that I've just read this, my stomach is doing flip flops and my blood is runnung cold. I have an 11 year old son and a 9 year old daughter. They have both been on singulair for quite a few years. My son has been on ADHD meds now since about a year and a half after starting Singulair because we tried to avoid them. Every few weeks he tells me he has this empty feeling inside him that makes him really sad and he doesn't know what it is. It just feels empty. I'll usually read with him or play a game or walk our dog with him to help him feel better.
-- By mom1218 | Reply | (5) replies | Private Message meAs for my daughter, she exhibits all of the symptoms I have read about. She talks about life being terrible( trust me, she has it pretty good), she has been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, OCD and Tourette Syndrome. Every psychiatric medication we have tried has made her worse. She was always a confident, outgoing little girl, and then she just changed. She's had stomach aches, which the docs always thought were in her head. She gets headaches. She is extremely sensitive, won't let me even brush her hair or touch her. She has extreme mood swings and gets upset over the most miniscule things, then writes about them, even saying she realizes her anger was too much for what the situation was! I will stop Singulair immediately and see what happens. What a miracle it would be if all of their symptoms disappeared.
