Oh my goodness.....my daughter, age 17, had her first injection in June 2008, started losing her hair w/in a month. We thought it was form straightening, some high lightening etc. She had blood work done which showed she was anemic...strange, as 2yrs prior her blood work was stellar, and she had not changed her diet, or physical activity. She increased her iron and protein intake (along w/ supplements).....three months later, and after her second injection, iron was still anemic....worse actually, and her hair loss significant.I found this website last night....and I am floored......I called MERCK today and spoke to a representative wh o was not aware of the hair loss issue, but said that in their case studies, Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia was a side effect.....which leads to hair loss itself.....so I am researching now what to do next.....anyone else have this issue??????

Ladies! I think it is wonderful that we are sharing our experiences here and helping one another. I felt it is necessary I share my experience as well. Thank You to all you ladies who have posted. You have helped me.
Got Aviene from my pharmacist saying 'it's same as Alesse, it's cheaper and the drug company covers this versus Alesse.' How dumb of me not to research this despite the fact this came without a box and instructions.Where is this made? Read up on it etc... things one would do BEFORE trying something. I did not do this and this has cost me.
I noticed changes as you all say you did as well. I have been taking the pill for 3 months. I work out as much as I can so about at least 3 times a week, I had a energy loss, I felt in an unexplainable way, just tired and irritated by the day. No, this is not normal for me. I got a great deal on a scale and stood on it and couldn't believe a 20 pound weight gain. This was not exactly a surprise since my clothes don't fit well and I am very uncomfortable. However, this still didn't make sense b/c I have breakfast and it's not junk, toast coffee or eggs with it or serial. For the last 3 months I made healthy lunches, I cooked ahead so took fish, chicken, rice, whole wheat sandwiches, orange juice, water, milk to work. No junk, no pop, no over eating. Had fruits and veggies. I was glad I was keeping up with this but to gain weight from it? I have a full time and a part time job keeping me busy and this life style, what I did for the last 3 months always included weight LOSS not GAIN. I am pretty pissed about this. (Of course, I am on Aviane, we are all pissed off, haha but not really haha right?) I have major issues with my face, considering I am using the same wash... no change...Anyway.. you're all seeing something doesn't' make sense. I have actually had bloating. Major bloating. 3 weeks. Never had this before. I took over the counter aid, that did help. I am 30 I never took over the counter aid.. let's not mention what I took but it helped.
Listen everyone, get off this pill. I will never take this pill again. I have 4 left this month and forget it I'd rather get my period tonight and anticipate change to occur.
On my way home, as usual of late, I tried to figure out WHAT is wrong with me. In conversation with a cooworker I mentioned the 20 pound weight gain and all and she said 'so much in such little time?' I was thinking about it on my drive home... I am at 2 new jobs and have stress but... to gain this much... and it dawned on me. I CHANGED MY B.C. It HAS TO HAVE something to do with it. I came home and goodled. You can't find anything on Aviane but negative comments. You go on Alesse... oh! a company website at least shows up.
Thank you Ladies... I believe I am having the same reaction as all of you did and I do sincerely Thank everyone for taking time out to post. You have helped me and I do think this B.C. is the reason for my current state.
I'll post in a week or two and then after a month to provide an update.
Take care Ladies!

I have had mine for over a year now. I initially never thought any of these side effects were related to this device. After gaining weight when I have been exercising and eating the same (sometimes one pound per day), bloating, decreased libido, swollen legs (like when I was pregnant), nausea, and having this horrible neck/shoulder muscle ache (to name the biggest ones), I talked with my OB about this being the cause. She pretty much dismissed it as having anything to do with this. Then, after becoming so frustrated about the weight gain, I decide to research this little thing and I find this!! Oh my goodness. I have scheduled an appointment to remove this tomorrow. It also bothers me not to have a period. I feel like it has been building up for over a year and that is why my stomach is so pregnant like!! I think it works great for some women, and I had a fabulous experience for the first 8 months about. I just think it is important for women to pay attention to their bodies and just because a professional disagrees, does not mean they are correct.

I think Fosamax KILLED MY MOTHER. My mon was previously healthy with no known medical problems. No hypertension, no high cholesterol, no diabetes...nothing. She was taking Fosamax for osteoporosis prevention. She developed an acute liver failure. There was no viral, bacterial, or cancer linked to this sudden onset of liver failure. She received a liver biopsy and within one week was dead from bleeding from the biopsy site. I have recently found some journal articles linking Fosamax to acute liver failure. MY HEART IS BROKEN. Do not take this drug without doing in depth research on its side effects and discontinue it immediately if any side effects occur. God Bless.

I've never written on a blog in my life, and now that I've just read this, my stomach is doing flip flops and my blood is runnung cold. I have an 11 year old son and a 9 year old daughter. They have both been on singulair for quite a few years. My son has been on ADHD meds now since about a year and a half after starting Singulair because we tried to avoid them. Every few weeks he tells me he has this empty feeling inside him that makes him really sad and he doesn't know what it is. It just feels empty. I'll usually read with him or play a game or walk our dog with him to help him feel better.
As for my daughter, she exhibits all of the symptoms I have read about. She talks about life being terrible( trust me, she has it pretty good), she has been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, OCD and Tourette Syndrome. Every psychiatric medication we have tried has made her worse. She was always a confident, outgoing little girl, and then she just changed. She's had stomach aches, which the docs always thought were in her head. She gets headaches. She is extremely sensitive, won't let me even brush her hair or touch her. She has extreme mood swings and gets upset over the most miniscule things, then writes about them, even saying she realizes her anger was too much for what the situation was! I will stop Singulair immediately and see what happens. What a miracle it would be if all of their symptoms disappeared.

I am a 29 year old (30 in May) mother of 4. I am so glad that I came across this website. I am having many of the same symptoms that most women have been posting about. After having our 4th child in September, I decided to go a different route with the birth control. I wanted to try the Mirena. It seemed like the answer for me. So I had it inserted in October 2007. Since then I've been thinking that I have gone crazy. My period has been longer and heavier than it has ever been. I am a teacher. I had to leave school one day to change pants because a colleague of mine noticed something on the back of my pants. Yeah, talk about embarrassing. That has not happened since middle school (and I was at home then). I am also experiencing mood swings, headaches, bloating stomach, and insomnia. My biggest noticeable changes are the weight gain and my sex drive. I have never worked out as much as I do now and I am still gaining weight. I joined the Biggest Loser contest at my gym in Jan. Guess who was the Biggest Gainer? Sex... oh my goodness. If I hear my husband complain one more time I think I will scream. I have no desire whatsoever to have sex. This isn't me. I thought that I had a problem with my thyroid or something, but after coming across this site I'm going to make an appointment to discuss my side effects. I can't go on living this way. It's not fair to me or my family. Thanks to all for sharing your story.

Oh my goodness...I thought I was really the going crazy, getting fat, huge boobs, headaches, and NO sex drive -on the pill person. Thought it was just me. I have also been extremely moody and depressed---crying while watching a commercial? Yeah, pretty bad. My boyfriend thinks I have lost interest because in the beginning of our relationship (before the pill) I was a sex crazed person---now, not so much. I never think about it--at all. I have to use lubrication to have "comfortable" sex because otherwise I am dry. This is a first time ever that I have experienced that. I have gained 12 pounds despite exercise and diet---I eat very healthy because I enjoy it. I have been on the pill for 6 months and it is horrible. The problems came one by one and now as I sit being completely miserable- I know why. I'm getting off this pill!!!!!!

I had my Mirena put in January 2004 after my daughter was born. My doctor said it was the best thing for me since I had a stroke 6 days after I had her and they didn't know why.. he said he wanted to research about my situation before he would tell me if I should have more children. I love my ob-gyn, he is great but he didn't tell me about all the side effects. I gain a whole lot of weight, (was in size 5 when I got pregnant, now 20) I thought I was just fat because it was a family thing.. my aunts gained after baby's too. but not like me... my breasts won't stop growing.. I can't stand it, was a full B, now I am passing a DD and I just don't want to go up another size, mood swings, oh my goodness, acne(yep), didn't have a high sex drive before, but now it completely gone, there is more but I just figured it was my imagination.. I am gonna get it taken out soon, of course my 5 years is almost up now.

I've had my Mirena for about 15 and a half months and I am having it removed today at 2 o'clock. At first I had sharp pains when I would sit down and I felt like the cords were poking me and irritating me. My OB/GYN requires patients to come back one month after having it put in so he can check it and make sure it is still in place. At this visit he also trimmed the cords although he acted like he didn't believe me when I told him that I could feel them poking me when I sat down and that it hurt. At first I didn't notice any bad side effects, but I did have one good one: my periods stopped, but I still had occasional and sporadic spotting. I didn't think to look for any bad side effects because I got the device under the impression that it had no bad side effects. I thought it only had a rare complication of perforating the uterus, but since mine was in place at the one month check, I didn't think about anymore until I started thinking about having another baby recently. I went online to see if I had to have a doctor remove the Mirena or if I could do it myself, and I found out that it's best done by a professional because bad things can happen and then you'd have to go to the doctor anyway. Plus, I didn't want to hurt my chances of having another baby. While online I discovered this whole world of message boards where women were having a lot of the same problems I'd been having in recent months and they all blamed their Mirenas. Some claimed that their problems had gone away since having it removed. I never thought to link my circumstances to the Mirena, but when I saw how many women are having the exact same problems as me I knew that I needed to go ahead and get mine out ASAP. Here is a list of my side effects, and I've found other women have had them as well with Mirena: weight gain, bloated stomach, depression, short temper with husband and daughter, acne, low sex drive, spotting, cramps, constipation, and back pain. There may be more, but I can't remember them all right now. Some of them may not even be related to the device, but I've read of so many women with Mirena who are having or have had the same issues, so I suspect a link between my problems and Mirena. I hope this helps someone out there looking for answers. God Bless!

Oh my goodness! I am so so glad I found this site!! I have been taking Yasmin for about 2 months now, and although it has helped with some acne problems a bit, I felt like I have been going crazy. I have not been using it as birth control (I am only 16 and I have been taking it for an ovarian cyst rupture I had), but I, like almost everyone else that has commented, thought I was going crazy!!! After 2 weeks of taking it, I started getting even more severely depressed than I usually get. My anxiety sky-rocketed! Boys that I used to flirt with and crush on were/are no longer that interesting to me. Even romantic novels didn't give me a tingly feeling I normally get. Nothing has been interesting to me lately!! I also have been a lot more vicious with my parents than I usually am. I have just been a ball of anxiety and depression! I seriously thought I was going crazy and going to commit suicide before I came to this website! I sure am hoping it is the pill that is doing this, because then I will just stop taking it right away, starting tonight. I definitely do not recommend this!!!

I started taking Loestrin (again) a couple of months ago. The first week or so was fine...just the usual breast tenderness etc. However, by the time I was in my second week I started to descend into depression...and badly. I felt like crying all the time and felt generally hopeless about life. I am generally a positive upbeat person so the difference was obvious. At first I thought it was the changing of the seasons or because my boyfriend and I live in different states, but then the more that I thought about it the more that I realized the bouts of depression I've had in the past have coincided with taking this pill. I didn't experience weight gain...but instead weight loss....however, this is a reflection of the depth of depression it caused me because when I'm depressed I have no appetite. I have also had unexplained/unjustified anxiety and have been paranoid about my boyfriend breaking up with me, cheating on me etc. It's been really ridiculous, but it's almost as thought my thoughts are uncontrollable. During the one week off, my mood and overall outlook on life improved significantly, but declined once again when I started my new pack. My boyfriend and I have decided that the side effects are just not worth it and I'm going to make an appointment with my gyno to be fitted for a diaphragm. I know it's not as easy to use as the pill, but I figure I may not have a boyfriend if my craziness continues!! Oh...lastly, I did also experience nausea as well....not super bad, but enough to notice.

My college age daughter was diagnosed with allergies and asthma last winter. She had a series of allergy test and results were grasses, dust mites, mold, cats, dogs feathers. Her main complaint was shorness of breath during exercise, boxing and lately tennis. She is a very healthy young lady that played tennis, ate healthy and stayed away from pop and junk food. This sudden breathing issue is baftling. She was put on Singular and the lowest dose of Advair. For 9 months she has been taking these meds and they don't seem to help. What's more baffling is that 6 months ago she developed an eye irritation, itching, swelling and redness of the eye lid. She has see 3 opthalmologists and 1 cornea specialist. They've all said it's "dry eye". Fine, but what is the cause.
I am one to read all the package inserts to all medications. As a professional, having sat on two Institutional Review Board for Animal and Medical Research at Henry Ford Hospital, I am well aware of all the possible side effects that can arrise with medications.
Recently I read up on Singular, I am confinced that there is a definite correlation of the eye problem with the Singular. I have told all the doctors and non seemed to want to speak with the allergist or work with him, or even consider that this is a possibility.
I intend to have her stop this medication and hope and pray that this will problem will cease. If any one has had a similar occurance with Singular, please respond.

Has anyone had a problem with mouth or tongue sores? My oral surgeon elimnated anything serious, but still can't for sure tell me why the left side of my tongue is sore and red. Leiton planus was mentioned, I found that on one site to be associated with certain blood pressure medications.

Oh my goodness, you'd think this stuff was evil in a pill. ALL birth control pills, and hormonal methods of birth control (and medication for that matter) has side effects. Everyone's body is different. I have severe migraines, but taking a pill with a higher estrogen level makes it much worse. Not to mention Yasmin was my fourth try before I was comfortable on the pill again after a long time BCP free. I suffered through break-through bleeding, constant bleeding, turning into satan, constant PMS symptoms, infections, migraines, you name it. Finally, I found Yasmin and I lost a little weight and my periods remained the same (sometimes too long, sometimes too painful, but that never changed with any of them -- and I hear the same thing with the new "miracle" pill Yaz), and I was fine. I have spent time off of Yasmin, simply because I was ill and on antibiotics so I didn't fill a couple of months worth, and I noticed no difference in the before and after (other than having to use condoms in the meantime).
I've been on Yasmin for three years, absent two months. Everyone's body is different, everyone reacts differently, and this site is NOT this place to get the information you need to make a decision about medication. A starting point maybe, then go off the pill, see how you fill (talk to your doctor first). What's not being taken into consideration is other medications these users are on, ages, individual physical illnesses or situations, or other things that could be reasons or interferences with the pill. Good luck ladies. :)
Oh, and an acne tip... rather than putting more chemicals into your bodies, try Proactive. I had AWFUL skin in areas that nothing worked for, from cheapest to most expensive to prescribed. I started using it in 1996 or so and my skin is perfect. I use it now because it keeps my face clear and makes it radiant, and I don't even have to use it every day. I don't have to wear ANY make up on my skin at all. Something to think about instead of putting worrying about trying to find a BCP that works for you and for your skin. :]

Oh my goodness!!! I am SO glad I found this site. I got my Mirena April 2007. I had been on Depo for far too long and as my husband and I still don't want children for now, Mirena seemed the next best bet. I HAD done research and at the time didn't find anything that scared me off. I wish I had dug around more! I have been having various side effects, one of which is the HORRIBLE itchy and sore breasts I get every couple of weeks or so! I have had to hide just so I can rub the dang things to get some momentary relief! I also get the worst dang migraines once a month...about 2 weeks before I spot. The lightbulb recently went off that the weird acne I've been getting is likely related to this dang thing inside me too. I have NEVER had acne and am used to getting compliments on my "good skin". I am 29, have a good skin care regime and have the worst skin of my life! Add that to bloating and sore, itchy boobs, and oh boy, do I feel just great about myself! I didn't even mention the arthiritic-like pain I've been having in my hands and my carpal tunnel symptoms that started about July...I am going to make an appt with my doctor asap. Even if there are many possible explanations for everything, this is too weird. Getting this thing out of me would be a good place to start!

I have been taking Neurontin for 1 week (300 mg 1x per day and then prescribed to increase to 300 mg 2x per day after 1st week). It has been incredible taking the pain away (hemi-vertibrae bone defect in neck with severe arthritis)!!! Like Oh my goodness wonderful!!! however - by the end of the day - i am 20 lbs bloated and feel like the weight gain is right around the corner... I am very aware of body ( I am a dancer) and need to know if this is going to balance out... i know the answer of it depends oneach person - but some insight would help me not panic right now

Hi Toprol-XL Victims. I was put on this med because the doctor felt that I only needed to be on one blood pressure med and not two. I was told to take 100mg a day, but after telling the doctor that I almost passed out 5 times just after 3 days of use, he quickly cut it in half to 50 mg. There are days when my BP spikes. It's only spiked about two-three times over the past 6 months of use.
As with all of you here, I have good days and bad days. Mainly the fuzzy, cloudy feeling in the head, the shortness of breath when going up flights of stairs. My BP was 160-180 over 90. Now it stays about 98/62 - 130/78, and when it does spike it goes up to about 160 or so. Some days I get up and I feel just great...I just wish I had a larger % of good days vs. bad days.
I look at the alternative though.....I almost had a stroke one year ago, and that was not pleasant. I still suffer with slight palipations/seizures (have had two attacks so far). The doctor says it is stress related, but like I told him, I never had problems before. I watch what I eat now. I've lost a good 45 lb.s with another 65 lbs. to go. I'm hoping once I lose all of the weight the BP will drop by itself. I cannot stress enough the importance of removing salt from your diet...oh my goodness. I'll give you an example. One night I had ground meat over white rice (that was prepared on top the stove - no salt of course, but the meat brought its own bad elements to the table). I stood up to walk a straight line and wound up walking a slant. My BP shot up just from eating that.
So far this drug was the only thing to kind of keep me in check w/ my BP.

Oh my goodness. I have had this thing for almost two years now. I feel so much better about myself after reading these reviews. I have went to the eye doctor because I was sure I had a tumor behind my eyes. I have had terrible headaches, blurred vision (he decided to change my contacts that i have worn for 12 years), extremely irregular bleeding, hair loss, acne (that I never had as a teen), and awful mood swings. I have my next yearly exam scheduled and am seriously going to discussing this. A friend of mine talked me into getting it because she loves hers. NOT ME!

Well, I am not the type to post things on line but I'm so angry and disgusted with the whole medical and pharmaceutical industries for promoting this product FALSELY. I got the mirena 5 weeks ago and am having it removed in two days- and counting. I am extremely anxious and depressed. I feel "raw"- like I want to cry for absolutely NO REASON. I just gave birth to a beautiful boy two and a half months ago and have a lovely 15 month old boy as well. I need my mental health for these babies and MIRENA has taken it away. I was told (as most women who are posting about Mirena complaints) by my doc that there would be no side effects despite me telling him that I did not do well on the pill. When I had to go to the psychiatrist because of how MISERABLE I felt, she called the ob-gyn and he said it was "absolutely not" the Mirena- leaving me to feel like a basket case. Fortunately I looked on line and realized I AM NOT CRAZY and I KNOW MY BODY better than all these doctors. I had read about Mirena before getting it inserted but only on their website- obviously heard no horror stories there. I wish I would have read websites like this one before having it inserted. Anyhow, NOBODY is going to tell me that what I feel is NOT because of Mirena- I KNOW IT IS. I am having this awful thing removed and no doctor will persuade me to "try it a little longer." They can say it's not the Mirena but we all know the truth and the truth will prevail eventually.

Ladies,
I am so glad for the internet because I am having the same side effects. I cry for no reason, like now I am about to cry typing this. I am depressed all the time. In the beginning it is wonderful. Before I started the Ring my cycle would last for 8 WHOLE days strong. When I got on the ring it change to 1 day or a day and a half. I loved it! Then I noticed that I would always have an attitude about something. I was always negative and never wanted to do anything, I just didn't have the energy. Oh my goodness and Sex, just thinking about it turned my stomach. I just didn't want to be touched or kissed or anything. But when I forced myself to do it I really enjoyed it. It was hard to stay lubricated but that was another side effect. My poor husband is hanging in there with me. I explained to him why I am feeling the way I am. Its the ring. I am apart of LA Weightloss and in the last month and a half I have not lost any weight and I have gained inches in my stomach and breasts because of the ring. I took it out Monday night and I will never put another one in. I am going to get my tubes tied. I am so tired of all this birth control because it seems that it is not controling anything. Believe I would rather have an 8 day period than feel the way I feel now.

Oh my goodness....thanks to all of you who have taken the time to post strange side affects - particularly those of your children. My daughter (4) has had them too: nightmares, fear, irritability, strange bed-wetting episodes (after more than 2 years of being potty-trained) followed by immediate and deep sleep, nocturnal seizures, anxiousness. Since taking her off the medicine, she is back to sleeping through the night and waking up for a trip to the bathroom. I've been to my pediatrician more than once talking about these episodes. He didn't seem to be aware of any side affects like these for Singulair. He will be now!

Hi to all Yasmin victims. I have been off Yasmin for 2 months now and still experiencing anxiety in the mornings and depression. Silke, flower babies, whoever is there to help me believe this suffering will come to an end. I lost the joy in life, and cannot function as i used to. Please please write to me girls, i really need support. I am 26 and living on my own in another city. I had to move next to them for 1.5 months in order to survive. I lost so much weight, my thyroid started to work fast (it is under control now). I have a beautiful and loving boyfriend, and he is suffering with me too, our relationship is damaged a lot because of my severely depressed mood. I need to talk to people who are getting better. I am on antidepressants because I was soooo depressed and with no appetite. I feel much better compared to the previous month, I am trying my best to stay strong but sometimes loose my hope. I really need you guys, I really need your supporting words.
