I have been on the NuvaRing for about 6 months now. I have endometriosis and I'm anemic both run in my family on both sides. I went to my doctor to ask what birth control method would be better for me than the pill because my hectic life doesn't have a set schedule and she recommended the depo shot or the NuvaRing. After hearing about the pros and cons of both forms of birth control I opted for the NuvaRing.
I love it! I don't have to worry about taking a pill every day and I don't have to worry about getting a shot every 3 months. I use the NuvaRing to stop my periods, which stops the progression of the endometriosis, which will lessen my chances of becoming infertile by the time I want to have children.
I have had no negative side affects from the NuvaRing. I have had some breast tenderness but I'm only 19 and I think it is due to my breasts growing and not the NuvaRing. My mother's breasts grew until she was about 21 or 22.
My sex drive is actually greater than it was before because I don't have to worry and my long term boyfriend loves it! Neither one of us have to worry about an unwanted pregnancy and I would recommend this method of birth control to anyone, especially someone who's life is as hectic as mine!

I was recommended to try NuvaRing by a friend who has been using it for years with no problems. Wtih a long history of intolerance to the pill and having come off Depo Provera after 5 years (because of the osteoporosis fear and severe vaginal dryness) I opted for the NuvaRing given it's low levels of hormones. At first I had a lot of cramping and discharge which my Dr said was normal. Since then I've had all the symptoms listed below...have even been having expensive cardiac tests because of the heart palpitations (my blood pressure remains normal) which my Dr says are not related to the NuvaRing. She has recommended I take anti-depressants for the extreme anxiety I have started experiencing (and have never had before). Having read these posts this morning (woke up with severe cramping mid-cycle) I've now removed the ring...hoping that my doing so my symptoms will recede / decrease. But...I'm now out of hormone related options for birth control. My Dr has recommended the Mirena IUD which my sister has and is removing due to side effects from that. Any other ideas??????

To the gals who seem to be losing hope: I've been off of the Yasmin for almost three months and I'm finally starting to feel like myself again! My cycle has gotten back to normal (25-28 days) and the anxiety I was experiencing right around my period each month is gradually lessening. I am optimistic that it's only a matter of time.
I opted NOT to get on ANY medication to help with the mental aspects of withdrawal/weaning: I take vitamins!!!! Hang in there guys...

Thank you. I opted to stop the Loestrin (a week into it) and just forgo BC pills for awhile. Who knows what that will do to my system... I just hope things level out quickly: although from reading through the posts it seems like the average amount of time that it takes for this to occur is 6 mos to a year. Whoo hoo.
Take care, all...

Do not trust your doctors ladies! My doctor didn't seem aware that this drug is too new on the market to trust. In fact, our doctors don't know half of what our pharmacists know. After 10 years on a tri-phasic pill I opted for Yasmin. Within 2 weeks I had an enormous grand mal seizure and woke up in an ER. (I hae never had a seizure in my life!) Of course there is no evidence to prove Yasmin caused this, but it seems a terrible coincidence and even my doctor ordered me to stop taking it. When I went to Yasmin's website they mildly mention seizures as a possible side effect. The truth is, the safety of the pill is not confirmed, especially for long-term use. I have heard someone call The Pill the biggest human trial in history. I'm starting to believe that's true.

I went to the dr in sept about a pinched nerve in the right side of my neck and was given a shot in my left upper arm(which didnt help). A month or so later i noticed a dent in that area so i called the dr that gave me the shot and was told "yea that can happen but its not common"!!! so what i wanna know WHY AND THE HECK WASNT I TOLD THAT BEFORE!!! Im sure i would have opted out for the shot that didnt even help but left a nasty dent in my arm. The area feels hot and like a bruise but no other side effects that I noticed......and people wonder why we have no faith in drs!!!

After a reaction to a known food allergy and being treated with success at the emgergency room with benedryl, I followed up with my GP for irratation in one ear. After an exam of my inner ear he said the canal looked inflamed, probably lingering from the food allergy and said a "shot" would clear it right up. His nurse came in with the injection, and I asked "what exactly is this" she said it was "Kenalog" and said people come in all time and get it for all kinds of things, mainly for allergies and they just "love" it. I had never heard of the drug before this. I received the 80mg injection in my left hip on 06-20-05. Since then I have experienced mild to moderate depression, anxiety, panic, fatigue, night sweats, muscle pain, stomach cramping and a mild form of acne around the hair follicles on my chest as per the dermatologist. I beleive it is the side effects of the Kenalog. If I would have been properly informed I would have opted out of injection and kick myself for not asking more questions about it. I know from reading the forums every one reacts differently but the side effects seem consistant throughout. I would caution anyone before taking this drug to througly weigh the benefits vs the risks.

I started lisinopril 5mg 7 months ago. Before that I tried Hctz to control my BP. At about the same time I thought I was having trouble with my tonsils (it was a tickle in the throat). I did have a lesion of some sort on a tonsil, the ENT didnt think it was a problem, but I continued to have this choking feeling and cough. So we tried antibiotics which did nothing. After so long I opted to have my tonsils out in Sep '04. No one brought up to me there are side effects on lisinipril like a cough, except a new Pharmacist that I work with. So here I am, hoping to get off this stuff, by doing some exercising, and cutting out salt.....The tonsilectomy was horrible.....(Im 39) and I sure home this feeling in my throat stops!! OH....I also have a lost of taste!! I want to swallow again without this feeling!!! Pray for me.

I've been taking Synthroid (Levothyroxine) for about 17 YEARS. I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease, and opted for the radioactive iodine. After two years of trying to control the disease with PTU (which has serious bone marrow depletion side effects) I decided to go for the one thing I knew would work. Of course, the treatment with the radioactive iodine is very tough to estimate, and I went from hyperactive to hypoactive. As a result, I'll take 200mcg (0.2mg) for life.
I think it's important to understand that Synthroid is not a drug. It is a hormone. When you take Synthroid, you're engaging in hormone replacement therapy (HRT). You really won't experience side effects from the hormone, but you will experience problems if the amount of hormone is not within a "normal" range. Too much or too little will be a problem for anyone. What's critical here is to take the hormone at the same time every day (without food -- calcium will block its absorption), and monitor your hormone level frequently to establish a solid baseline.
The hormone will take days, or even weeks to reach its peak, and the duration is variable. BECAUSE IT'S A HORMONE, TAKING MORE OR LESS THAN IS NECESSARY WILL PRODUCE UNDESIRABLE RESULTS. Any "side effects" are really the result of improper dosing.
Having said all of that, I've never had a problem with Synthroid -- once my optimal level was determined. I worked closely with my MD and together decided that I was best at the upper side of "normal." I've made only one change in the 17 years, and that was to increase the dose.
Here's something to consider: If it weren't for this hormone, and the science behind HRT, I probably would have died years ago.

Hi,
I was on Yasmin for one month. Towards the last couple of weeks i started having a TERRIBLE time sleeping, i was having anxiety attacks at night, breathing was difficult, shortness of breath. I was awake ALL night long! After reading this board, i am positive that it is from this Yasmin!! I also had the tingly hands and arms at night. I took it at bedtime. The pack ended last week, I was suppose to start a new pack this Sunday, but opted to stop using it. Does anyone know how long these side effects seem to last after stopping this pill? I'm sure it's in my system somewhat still, I had trouble sleeping again last night. I HOPE this ends soon! I've never had problems like this before, so it has to be related!
Thanks! Please let me know how long before I should feel normal again!
