So glad I found this web page! I just finished a 10-day course of Doxycycline 100 mg. twice a day, prescribed by my oral surgeon after a tooth extraction. Around Day 5 or 6 I started getting heartburn that was not easy to get rid of. At the time I did not suspect the Doxy, because I was also taking pain medication, and thought that was the cause. It just occurred to me yesterday that the Doxy might be the problem. I looked on Drugs.com and read up on it, but nowhere in the listed side effects does it mention heartburn, or any of the mood disorders that other people here have experienced. Luckily I finished the pills earlier today, but I have had the heartburn non-stop ever since. So this time I Googled "Doxycycline heartburn", and I got plenty of results. So, it's not an isolated case. The instructions on my pill bottle were to "take it on an empty stomach", and to "not take any antacids, dairy products or iron within 2 hours of taking this drug". It makes me angry that this possibility of severe heartburn is not listed as a possible side effect of this drug. I'm glad I didn't get any mood disorder problems from it, I already take medication for anxiety/depression. Thanks for letting me vent! I'll be telling my pharmacist about this not-uncommon problem.

Prescribed Avelox after previous antibiotic could not clear up sinusitis. Avelox cleared it up within three days, but I feel worse now. Extreme agitation/anxiety, tremors, twitches, no appetite, boughts of depression, dizzy, lack of coordination, accelerated heart rate, leg shake, cold extremities, very strange, vivid dreams. Doctor told me to stop taking and side effects should clear up in a few days ( I hope). This is nuts. I feel like I am going insane. I could not go to work for three days due to side effects.

I was put on Levaquin 750 mg. for 7 days for a sinus infection. After a few days, I was soooooooo sore in every muscle and joint of my body, that I didn't even want to get out of bed. Since I am self-employed and the only one that does my job, (custom sewing and alterations of clothing), I had too. One Friday, shortly after taking the Levaquin, I was in the bathroom, and I had to get my husband's attention to help me get up off the commode, my right leg would not let me raise up. I went to the doctor that was on call, and he said that Levaquin is like using a Elephant gun, and that you can tear a tendon, cartilage (sp?). I was put in a brace and sent for an MRI, which showed nothing other than fluid. Then I was sent to an Ortho. He gave me a cort. shot and had me to come back in 2 weeks, well the shot helped for a few days, in 2 weeks he gave me 3 options: 1: another shot, 2: surgery to see what the MRI and x-rays missed, or 3: learn to just live with it. I opted for the surgery and had it on December 31, 2007 and was informed that my cartilage(sp?) was torn in 2 places with 1 place having a "floppy" place that had to be take off. Now I have to take p.t. and get "back" to where I can work, I can't even drive now, it is my right knee, and the pressure to press the pedal is VERY painful.I have to depend on my husband to do for me and I don't like having to do this. I have never had any problems with my right knee and the doctor asked me how I did this and I told him this happened while taking Levaquin, and he was looking straight at me when he asked, when I answered with Levaquin, he just said OOOOOOOOOO, and looked straight at the computer screen. That told me that I'm not the first that he has seen or heard about. While my husband was in the hospital, there was a nurse, that said that she had heard a lot about the terrible side effects of this medicine, but had not yet met anyone that had been affected.
I also have been very moody, and short tempered since taking this medication. I have no patience, and that is not me at all.
I have also got my right ear stopped up and a ringing in it. I have also had this since taking this so called wonderful cure all antibiotic. Someone should have to pay for everything that everyone has had to go through with, PAIN and ALL. If there is a Lawsuit, count me in. I've never been affected this way with any medicine. It should be taken off the market immediately. Thank you for letting me get this off my chest.

I really don't know if Miralax is causing this side effect but I have been on Miralax for 3 years and then starting having problems with sores, burning and salty mouth. I had the sore removed by an oral surgeon and it came back as chronic inflammatory mouth , cause could be food, meds or oral products like toothpaste, mouthwash and etc. I did have a new night guard made and noticed after three nights my mouth started burning and I got a sore and had allergy tests, egd, went to ent Dr. and had X Rays and went to an internet, dentist and oral surgeon. I also have eliminated foods, drugs and don't wear a night guard and even went off Miralax and a stool softener with no improvement. I went back on Miralax and still even if I'm on it or off it I still have a sore mouth. what am I to do????????

Has anyone had a problem with mouth or tongue sores? My oral surgeon elimnated anything serious, but still can't for sure tell me why the left side of my tongue is sore and red. Leiton planus was mentioned, I found that on one site to be associated with certain blood pressure medications.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in April of this year (2007) kind of by accident through a routine checkup. I had gained a bit of weight over the past two years, but that was really my only symptom. I was begun on 75 mcg of a generic brand of Synthroid, levothyroxine. Since I began this medication, I have rapidly gained another 15 pounds despite a 1,000 calorie per day diet. I retain fluid horribly. My ankles, wrists, hands and face swell daily. My muscles ache, especially my legs, upon walking across a room. I'm fatigued, short of breath. My LDL cholesterol level has skyrocketed in only three months and now I'm being told I need to be on a statin drug. I cry frequently and feel uncharacteristically anxious and irritable, but this could be due to the frustration I am experiencing with the loss of my sense of well-being. In essence, I felt much better before being placed on the medication. I may, in fact, discontinue the medication totally and see if over time I begin to feel better. Like so many other stories I'm hearing, my doctor seems totally unconcerned.

I went to dentist to extract a tooth instead he gave pain meds and zpac to reduce the inflammation and referred me to an oral surgeon. First time I took it (which two tabs) I was sick to my stomach, nauseous with vomiting. I'm on day 4 now. I'm scared to death to take it on an empty stomach since I cant hold any food down, plus I need pain meds after i had my extraction which is super strong. Now I have a never ending battle. Cant wait for my mouth to heal so I can have a normal life again.

I took 6 treatment of Zometa in 2005 every 3 weeks and at 20 minutes per treatment. I then developed severe tooth pain and after seeing several specialist was diagnosised with dead jaw. I stopped Zometa at the same time. I have since had two molars pulled on the rt bottom of my jaw and it is spreading on its own. I have constant pain that I treat with tylenol or aleve, 3-4 at a time, every 3 to 4 hours depending on severity. I sometimes have to restort to vicodin. The last oral surgeon I saw said there was no cure at this time and nothing he could do for my pain.

I have been taking Fosamax for about 3 years, once a week. I had extreme hair loss last year. I was very concerned. It seems to have diminished now. I have knee pain. Some days are worse than others. I just recently started having shoulder pain. I exercise at least 3 times a week and have been for years so I know these pains are not from that. I needed to have some dental work done and found out some extremely disturbing news that doctors are just now finding out about. If a person is having any sort of dental work that has to do with the jaw bone, this includes tooth extraction, you are at risk for bone loss in the form of necrosis. This means the bone tissue dies and there is no cure for it. It makes no difference how healthy a person is or how long you have taken Fosamax. A person only need take 1 pill and they are at risk. There is no way to determine who will suffer from this terrible side affect. Stopping Fosamax before dental surgery makes no difference. Some people have lost their whole jaw. This is devastating news that needs national attention. My oral surgeon told me that doctors have tried everything to stop the necrosis and nothing has worked. Be forewarned.

I was prescribed this medication after having two wisdom teeth removed and after CLEARLY indicating to the oral surgeon that I had a history of seizures. The Monday after my Friday surgery I had a grand mal seizure at work and was taken to the emergency room via ambulance. The information on the patient thing from the pharmacy indicated in small print at the end of the information about a small likelihood of seizures. Do not take this medication if you have any history of seizures.
