I experienced the worst uncontrollable anxiety I have ever had in my life on a ten-day regime of tetracycline....I thought I was going to die and I was on my knees praying for help from God to extract the evil spirits that possessed my body...this drug is horrific for anyone with sensitity to medication or a history of anxiety...I have some anxiety and depression which is very controllable....Normally I am a stable happy-go-lucky stay-at home Mom in a happy marriage with a wonderful supportive family and inlaws....but this drug put me in a place I never want to go again...HELL on earth!
I cannot begin to list all the sideeffects this drug has given me...I was given a 30 day prescription for a molar extraction...oral surgery, which I ended on day 10 under the advice of my husband which was watching my deteriorating condition....wish I was never prescribed this drug.
I hope this posting helps others and I am glad it exists!!
Still experiencing some mild but tolerable side effects....
Recovering .....need a different anti-biotic

I took tetracycline for 10 days (it had been prescribed for 30 days for emergency oral surgery...I had cracked a molar and it had to be extracted)
On the tenth day I was ready to die from the progressive side effects that were completetly intolerable.....I thought I was going to die and the fear was so unreal that I thought I was possessed by the devil or some evil force that was going to kill me and my family....it was horrific!!
Taking an anti-anxiety med Ativan helped but I also made the decision to stop taking the anti-biotic tetracycline...within 24 hours I felt fine....the racing thoughts, the heat, the chest pains and blinding fear were suddenly gone....I know now that this drug is not good for me and have asked the doctor for another antibiotic.....
If anyone experiences these symptoms stop taking this drug immediately....I took it for ten days and I wished I would have stopped sooner....
I especially don't recommend Tetracyline or any of its similarly-based antibiotics for anyone who suffers from depression or anxiety....
I hope my experience can help others understand the adverse side effects of this drug.

In 1980, my neice was given Anectine anesthesia during a D & C procedure. Her side effects were: blood pressure dropped dramatically, could not breathe on her own, no feeling in extremities. Weakness continued for several days after returning home. It was discovered her father's mother had the same symtoms. After testing other sibs, they found all girls in that family was allergic to Anectine but NOT the boys. This was declared to be hereditary and the girls had a less than normal amount of pseudocholinesterase which did not allow the Anectine to be broken down in the body.

This is my second Rx for this stuff, only 250 mg., but I'd hate to see what would happen with a stronger dose! I was given this Rx to prevent infection after oral surgery. Within hours of taking it, that familiar itchy, burning sinus sensation started. I took an antibiotic to give me a sinus infection?? I already have tinnitis, and it is worse than usual. I feel awful with this stuff. I will tell my doctor that I will NOT take it again.

Versed used for oral surgery on a patient that had just been diagnosed with cancer of the larynx and needed teeth removed prior to radiation. Dentist knew that the patient was having difficulty breathing that day. After surgery patient was not recovering and was finally taken to ER where he was pronounced dead. What alternative drug should the dentist have administered?

I used this rinse for one month following oral surgery. I started having problems a couple of days before the prescribed period was over. It has been two months since I stopped rinsing with this medication. I still cannot taste anything on the tip of my tongue. The rest of my tongue is OK, but the tip seems to be permanently numb.
