I havent tried Nuvaring yet.... I just got back from the doctor with some free samples. I'm on the Ortho Evra patch currently and I have side effects that made me concerned enough to try something different. I was on the Depo shot for 4 years. I decided to get off of it after I had cycts removed from my ovaries and had pre cancerous cells removed. Which the doctors said would lower my chances of having children. I decided to take a whole year off of birth control. To give my body a chance to "recover". The only problem I had was my periods kept getting longer and longer and more frequent. Next thing I know the doctors tell me I have Polycystic Ovarian Disease. Which also lowers the chance of having children because of the irregular bleeding. The pill makes me so nautious I couldn't stand it so I thought I'd try the patch. Now I have menstrual cramps when I'm not ovulating, I'm so moody its not even funny, I'm eating all the time and tired 24/7. The only thing it did do was regulate my period. Which is what I wanted... But I've only been on it for two months. My doctor told me you cant even feel the Nuvaring and it has a low dose of estrogen so I wont be moody. But reading all of the comments and stories.... I think I'm just going to not be on any birth control and see if my body naturally regulates itself. If I was using the birth control just to avoid pregnancy it would be different, I would want to be on at least something. But I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that thinks birth control is evil and causes alot more problems than doctors tell you. So I think I'm just gonna toss my free samples of Nuvaring, get off the patch and see what my body does naturally.

I have been on 3 different birth control pills/patches in the past 2 years and I am sick of it. I know that some people are fine on and off birth control pills, but for me, I will never take one again. I was first on the Ortho Evra patch and that was the worst thing imaginable. I was throwing up on and off and developed a problem with my kidney's that caused what seemed like a UTI but after taking antibiotics never got better, until I got off of the patch. I switch to Ortho Tri-Cyclen. It was reasonable for a while, because at least I could function as a normal person again. But after a while I noticed it's side effects too; nausea, no sex drive, and a variety of others. So I then switched to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. Although it was the best of the 3, it still gave me side effects that I could not deal with. For the past 2 years, no one has been able to understand my moods, I have had to struggle to feel sexual, have gone from 20-30 vision in both eyes to having 20-200, loosing 20 lbs which makes me 103 lbs now, and after that, finding out that I can no longer eat dairy products (out of the blue). My hair is thinning out and is dull because my birth control pills lowered the amount of nutrients my body could take out of my food (look it up! Birth Control pills can cause definiency's in calcium, b12, biotin and others). Birth control pills were the only pills I was taking during those two years (except for the antibiotics I mentioned earlier) and I had not changed any of my eating habits. I will never go on a birth control pill again, and I hope that I can start to feel better and heal after the craziness those pills have inflicted on my body.

I've been on Ortho Evra patch for a couple years. Absolutely loved it. My symptoms of moodiness were almost nonexistent, periods were very regular , brief and light, breasts were growing a bit and tender sometimes, but it did not bother me too much. I did not notice any big weight changes, no cramps or pain. The best thing about it was not needing to remember to take it everyday like a pill. The only drawback was that the patch could move, slide, fall off, bend, or leave a black glue stain on skin or clothes, but you learn how to deal with it after while. Then I switched to another insurance and patch became awfully expensive. After that I started hearing of all the legal issues involved and terrible side effects, and was happy I got off of it, although it never caused me any problems personally.

Hello everyone! Well I started with Loestrin 24 January 2008. I have previously used the ortho evra patch & the NuvaRing. I decided to try bc in the first place, because I had extreme periods lasting more than 9 days sometimes 13 days every two weeks. I tried to stay away from pills in general mostly because I have a tendency to forget to take them. Once the other methods failed to control my periods, I decided to to try the pill. The first month I got that really weird brownish discharge type period then a couple of weeks later, during the white pills I got very heavy spotting to a light period for almost a week. then the normal period. After that my periods are amazing! a few days, very light & hardly any cramping. that only lasted a couple of months. Now I have very ugly acne on my face, back and chest. I have gained about 10 lbs & I am always crying! I found myself just running home to lay down just to get away from people... I am going to finish this trail & discontinue the pill. Hopefully my heavy irregular periods don't start up again right away.

I am just turned 24 years old. I have done the ortho evra patch before and had no problems.. well two weeks ago i started the nuvaring.. i though it would be good as much as my doctor talked good about it and meaning it cost me 50 dollars for 1 ring.... well the first few days went okay i didnt have many symptoms.. well then i started noticing a yellowy discharge and had to wear panty liners and it made it feel like i was always wet there.. well then there ended up a smell there and yet i was washing the normal amount of times a day.. then i ended up with a uti that lasted a week.. as well as it was my birthday weekend and i spent most of it with mood swings.. mainly i was very depressed and spent alot of time crying or angry for no reason at all.. like every little thing got on my nerves.. i ended up feeling very tired and wanting to sleep alot but then would wake up in the middle of the night with cramps... Then ever since i started the ring my acne has been terrible.. i wash my face and use proactive but it didnt work.. well i had a pimple near my lower lip of my face and it hurt really badly well then this morning i woke up and the whole area around it was swollen and my lip was massive.. and right that moment i knew it was the ring.. so i took it out.. and since ive taken it out ive felt happier, still a bit tired but not as much, and the swelling in my face and lip finally went away.. and when i took the ring out i felt nausea and had a headache.. which was a typical ever day thing since i started the ring these werent like typical headaches they were very painful...
i do not recommend anyone to use the nuva ring no matter how good the doctors talk about it.. it causes depression and everything that everyone else puts out there.. i read this website after i had just put it in and i regret not listening to all the other woman on this site...

I was on the Ortho Evra patch in 2005, I had so much complications, blood clots, chest pain and nausea. I hated it, I hated the gummy paste left on my body and the feeling I got when I put a new patch on.
Please be careful if you plan on using this birth control.

I have been taking this drug for a few weeks and it is horrible. My Doctor gave it to me to improve my painful periods, however, it has only made my daily life worse! After two weeks on the pill I thought I was going crazy, as I suffered from many of the side effects other women have described on this site. I was anxious, nervous, paranoid, shaky, moody, had severe headaches, felt constantly nauseous, had elevated blood pressure, and got easily depressed. I have stopped the pill, but the side effects have yet to cease (hopefully they will soon). I do not recommend this pill, as it has only made my life much more difficult. I will be switching back to the ortho evra patch as it had very few side effects... .

I'm 22 years old... I'd been off of birth control for 2 years when I started NuvaRing in October. My gyno said it was great with very few side effects. I have always had really clear, pretty skin, but since I have started NuvaRing, I have had awful breakouts. I am constantly nauseated, have terrible headaches and the mood swings are unbearable. My fiance thought I was losing it - I'd be high as a kite one minute, then rock bottom the next.
Luckily I found this site... does anyone have any recommendations as far as other options? Is OrthoEvra (patch) worth it? Please reply... thanks, ladies!

I just switched to Yasmin 3 days ago after being on Ortho Evra (patch) for over 5 years (since I was 15, due to severe cramps). I had continual spotting on the patch, and a bit of nausea but other than that I felt normal. After 3 days on Yasmin, I am convinced it is not for me. The first two nights I took it, I felt mildly nauseous. I have been breaking out in very strange places over the past fews days (my neck and stomach) and I have had relatively clear skin for years. I've noticed I've been quite moody, crying very suddenly and constantly snapping at loved ones over the past few days but wrote at off as stress. Now I know that there is something not right. I took the pill at 10pm and felt find until 1am when I laid down to go to bed and felt VERY nauseous. I was somehow able to fall asleep but at 4am I woke up and vomitted 5 times. Two hours later and I still feel nauseous although I think (hope) the worst of it is over. I even called my poor mom who lives hours away in the middle of the night crying about how sick and sad I felt. Which I knew was ridiculous but I didn't know what else to do! I couldn't stop crying or throwing up! I am hoping to switch to Ortho Tricyclen or back to the patch. I never realized how good I had it!

I began taking this drug in May 2007. It lowered my BP immediately and both my Doctor and I thought it would work out. In the beginning it had few side effects that I could notice (maybe a bit more difficult to get out of bed in the morning) but I figured that came with the territory.
As the summer progressed I noticed that my skin around my Belly and Forehead were very hot to the touch, like on fire. Yet I had not fever at all. I had night sweats on and off but not consistent. 4 weeks ago I thought I came down with a bug because I was extremely fatigued and as tired as I've been in my entire life. That feeling would not go away. Then came the dizziness and hot flashes. At one point I fell to the floor to keep from passing out. I have never felt so sick, yet my temperature is normal, I have an appetite, and I can sleep at night. The other symptoms I notice are a general felling of fuzziness like I am not really taking everything in at normal speed and my eyes seem dry/buggy. It is hard to look at someone or focus on something for more than a few seconds.
I quit taking this med one week ago, and am not feeling as tired and the dizziness is gone. But the vision problem is still here and it is bugging me. How long does it take for this to wear off??
Thanks and good luck to all of you.

I personally haven't had any problems, I have lost about 5 pounds and my skin has cleared up.
I think that a lot of the mood swings are in the mind and the weight gain shouldn't be blamed on this pill, just keep the food out of your mouth.

I'm glad I wandered across this page. I have been on Yasmin for almost two weeks and I finally decided that I couldn't take it any more. I have hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and the pill exacerbated the effects. I was barely able to get out of bed and missed several days of class. Yesterday, I experienced some slight vertigo and when I lay down on the bed I experienced a spinning sensation. At times my heart beats fast and at others I get chest pains and it feels like my lungs are burning. My complexion has gone to hell. I have a lot more acne than usual. Also, hot and cold flashes. Yesterday I felt feverish and thought maybe I was getting sick. Sometimes the nausea gets to the point where I think I might vomit.
These symptoms are in no way bad compared the Ortho Evra patch that I tried a couple years ago. It made me paranoid and lethargic. I threw up a lot. I locked myself in my room and had horribly violent dreams. I also developed a severe rage problem that came out of absolutely nowhere! There were times when I thought that I was loosing my mind. I think maybe I was a bit. The paranoia was awful and it fundamentally changed me as a person. I think birth control is sceary. I think I'm going to stick to condoms and spermacide from now on.

I am shocked reading this forum. I thought maybe I had a bit of depression due to seasonal affective disorder. However, I started Yasmin 3 months ago due to a switch in gyno's. He prescribed Yasmin instead of the Ortho Evra patch which I had been using previously for almost 3 years. I noticed several changes, and recently I've even noticed swelling in my legs, and pain in my ankles and feet at night. It's so bad by the end of the day sometimes that I could cry. I have no sexual desire - I'm always moody - I have no desire to do anything worthwhile. It's pretty sad. I feel myself snapping at everyone, and I have treated my boyfriend horribly. The hardest part is realizing all of this, and in a situation where I snap - I think to myself I need to get over this - I need to be happy - and I can only find myself being moody. I am overly tired all the time, and could pass out at the end of the day. I'm stopping the medication today & cannot wait to be done with this HELL. I'll update as to whether or not there are changes. I've never been so happy as when I was on my Ortho Evra Patch.

I am on my second pack of yasmin. So far i am not really
satisfied with it because it has been nothing but a
rollercoaster, and uncertainties. I dont even feel like the pill
is working. Maybe thats just my paranoia. My side effects
have been pretty bad. First of all i smoke and i frequently get
major heart pains. (im working on quiting smoking) I have
had a very unusual and uncontrolable smelly vaginal
discharge. Even after months of no sexual intercourse. The
week that i was taking the reminder pills (during menstration)
I literally went psycho. I ended up getting fired from my job
for cursing at a kid, i threatend to move, and all of this for no
reason at all. I did use the ortho evra patch prior to the
yasmin pill and i was way more satisfied with the patch. Oh and to the woman who commented on the questioning her sexuality. I have been a homophobe for my whole life, recently i have become attracted to girls. I think it has a lot
to do with the hormones just making the libido out of control.
some women say that their sex drive has fallen, mine has
skyrocketed, just in the opposite way lol.

To Silke and all the other ladies with the weight troubles from stopping, Im not saying it will work for you but I use to drink apple cider vinager mixed in with water or another beverage like tomato juice and it would keep my weight under control because it acts like a diruetic and has endless health benefits. So try it and see. Its so cheap too. I feel for all of you! I happen to be taking yasmin and have taken it for 2 years. I can only hope and pray that I dont experience your troubles. I will switch in a heartbeat if I get a hint of what you ladies have had! There is a big lawsuit against the ortho evra patch! So many woman have died from using it so ladies dont switch to that whatever you do. Im praying for you all! Good luck. Silke, Sherry, all of you keep us posted. Love, Kim

I just started OvCon a few weeks ago. Prior to that I was on the Ortho Evra patch. I switched becasue my period lasted forever on the patch (6-7 days) when without bc it was only 3-4 days. I haven't stopped spotting/bleeding sinc eI started OvCon. I see why it's called birth control-you can't get pregnant if you aren't having sex becasue of bleeding. I'm ready to switch back to Ortho Evra next month again. Especially after reading the postings on this site!

i started birth control originally with the ortho evra patch and was hospitalized with the extreme vomitting it caused me, twice before my doctor put me on yasmine, since it's a low dose pill. the nausea is still there, but at least i'm not vomitting from. However, i've discovered new side effects with yasmine. i've been getting really bad pains in the lower right side of my back that lessened up while i was on the reminder pills and came back full force when i start up a new pack. i've also been getting terrible headaches and shaking hands. anything will make me cry and i've never been a cryer. lastly i've had no energy and all i want to do is sleep. this is only my second month on yasmine and hopefully there won't be a third. i go back to the doctor next week and i'm hoping to get switched to a different low dose pill with fewer side effects.

I haven't actually started it yet but am seriously considering it. I been using normal pill BC and I have used the ortho evra patch before I got off BC to have a child. here is my story of why I want to try and for those who are still considering it.
First off, I usually get sick every month with the pill when I start a new pack, not all BC pill did it as I am on Loestrin now and on Yaz before that and they didn't make me sick, but they are lower doses. However, I loved ortho evra, it was great except for the sticky ring where lint get stuck on you from around the edges, but that was just a small negative for me. However, I got off it before all the controversy about how it has three times theh rate of blood clots forming than BC pills, so I am a little worried about going back on it and my docs don't really prescribe it either, and suggested the nuvaring.
Well I went on Yaz post birth and couldn't understand why I was so tired all the time, every one kept saying it is because you have a new baby but i don't believe it was that because my child is a really easy child who sleeps through the night and took her naps. i just wanted to sleep all the time and still feel this way even after switching to loestrin which is similar to Yaz. I wasn't tired like this on Ortho evra and my doc told me that the ring is similar in like the patch.
so I am sorry for all those of you who have had bad experiences and the only thing I think I can do is try it for myself cause, when something bad or negative happens everyone hears about it but that is not the case when something is good. Everyone's body is different and reacts differently to medication. So I am going to go ahead and try I think to see how it affects me cause I don't think I can get any worse and I am not ready to have another child yet. I am currently on an antidepressant for about 5 weeks now and still am having my constant tired wanting to sleep feeling, this is why I think it is the BC. Hopefully i won't have too many side effects but I am willing to give it a try as I do know women who have used it and said that they liked it.
