I have been on yasmin for about 5 years. I loved it to begin with but just recently I have been having horrible side effects that i just realized could be related. I just thought i was a 21 yr old with problems. i am having heart palpitations, hair loss, insomnia, anxiety, vision problems, UTI's, lightheadedness and blackouts, and CHRONIC migraines. I am having about 3 migraines a week! they are disrupting my life. it is weird that i was fine on the meds for so long and they are just now resulting in this. I am stopping the pill as of today and i am going to talk to my doctor about other options. i am thinking about ortho tri cyclin lo. i have to be on a birth control because i have had endometriosis and my doctor said it is less possible to come back if i am on a birth control. she mentioned the shot but i have heard bad stories about that too and i don't think i want to go there.

I just started my first pack of Loestrin today, so we'll see what happens... But it can't be worse than my previous 2 BC's - Yaz and Desogen. The desogen gor worse and worse over a period of 8 years or so... I began having mood swings, depression issues, severe anxiety... it was starting to affect my relationship... Not ok. So i talked to my doc and she switched me to Yaz.... the first 2 months were ok.... the next 3.... NIGHTMARES. I was exhausted all the time, sad all the time, depressed 3 weeks out of the month, bloated, gaining weight, breaking out with acne on my chin and jaw... I never even had acne as a teenager. It was awful. I'd cry over nothing. I felt like I was losing my mind... So the Loestrin was the next option. Time will tell... but it can't be any worse than it was on Yaz!

Honestly... Don't be afraid to try a new pill because of reading one of these sites. If you read up on any of the major BC's: Yaz, Loestrin, Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo, Yasmin, etc. They all the say the same thing for the most part, and everyone is experiencing all the side effects from this site on those as well.. Everyone reacts differently to the pill, so don't let it deter you from making a decision to try something new.

I have been on Yasmin for 5 yrs now and was diagnosed with a heart condition at 16 yrs old and dealt with it for 2 years, I started have really bad cramps and going 2-3 months with no period and 2 months of straight bleeding! I came off of Yasmin (Yaz) 6 months ago and since then have come off my heart medication and have had no other problems with my heart. I changed from Yasmin to Ortho Tri Cyclin and have experienced severe cramping heavy bleeding and horrible low back pain! My dr just proscribed me Loestrin, I'm gonna try it at least anything can be better than having a period for 2 months straight and severe pain!! Anybody had problems like mine on OTC?

So I decided to stop my nuvaring this week, and while I do agree that every person has a different experience with hormonal birth control, this route was just not for me. I have been on BC since I was 15 and have had mixed experiences. Started with Ortho-Tri Cyclin which made me crazy, went to orthocyclin which was great until my insurance stopped covering it, did lo dose Apri for 6 years and found that it made me very lethargic and moody with use over time and i think caused me migraines, switched to the patch and ended up in the hospital with elevated blood pressure during the first week (I was 23 and 130lbs), then tried nuvaring for the last 6 months. Started off well, my period became predictable to the hour and my migraines disappeared. However, I gained 15lbs! I am 5'3" and I know it is the nuvaring because I have been training for a marathon, running 4 days a week, 2 days of weight lifting and eating perfectly! Also, my sex drive is gone, like non-existent until my no ring week when I have my period. I am tired all the time and even though I sleep 8-10 hours a night. I also seem to be waking up once or twice a night. Worst of all, I am depressed and moody for no reason, all the time. I feel so bad for my poor boyfriend who has been walking on egg shells around me because he knows I cry and snap at anything. So I am stopping for a few months to see what will happen, and then maybe consider a copper IUD. I will update this post in a few months and let everyone know what happens.

Hey everyone,
I do not know if this could help any of you ladies. But i did some research and found this very informative page on comparing birth control. I have personally used Ortho-tri-cyclin lo because i was a very young college student and it was recommended not knowing what i was putting into my body and was on it for almost 3 years. I gained so much weight, and was always nauseous, always moody and miserable. To say the least, i stayed on it for 3 whole years! So i finally decided to find out what birth control would be best for me. I decided to give Loestrin 24 a try and i have been on it for less than a week and hoping for the best. If anyone else would like to compare, check out this website!

I have been on YAZ for over 2 years now. The previous bc that I have used in the past were Ortho tri cyclin which was awful, I was close to severe, obvious depression and Yasmin in which I was fine with. For the first couple of months on YAZ I was extremely emotional. However, I felt as though my hormones regulated and was fine with the drug I'd say until the past year. This entire time I have been wondering why I have been...
1.) Hot flashes in my sleep (I'm 26).
2.) Always tired. ALWAYS.
3.) Lost my sex drive.
4.) Experiencing horrible headaches.
5.) Most upsetting to me, lack of interest in life, nothing makes me happy or excited.
6.) Knee and neck joint pain.
Normally I am easily excited and love life with no lack of energy.
I am happy to see that I am not the only one experiencing all of these symptoms. I have been wondering if this is linked to my bc and if I would be better off stopping.
My doctor on the other hand has told me, the past two times I've questioned her, I don't think you should stop your bc just keep on and see if it changes. Thanks for nothing doc.
Thanks to all of you I know I'm not falling apart.

I have tried the NuvaRing off and on over the past year. My journey started because every pill I tried gave me mild to severe headaches for 3 to 10 days a month. I have not had headache issues with NuvaRing -- yeah!!

BUT -- here is the kicker. I take Zoloft too. When on the pill and taking Zoloft, my anxiety was under control. When I use the NuvaRing and Zoloft I spin into anxiety mode again, almost as if the Zoloft doesn't work at all.

I am 39 and my spouse won't do something permanent. I feel really trapped.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

So ive been on Yasmin, ortho tri cyclin lo and now my second month of femcon all of which caused different but equally annoying acne. Yasmin made me red and really bumpy acne, tri cyclin was good until right before my period my face went crazy and the rest of the month my face recovered. with femcon i am red again with acne on my jaw line (probably the only place i didn't have it before) any one with similar problems got something else that will work?

I started breaking out after one month of use. I never really had a problem with acne except in high school which was about 5 years ago. Just recently switched from Yasmin (DON'T TRY IT! WORST STUFF EVER) to Lutera and immediately started noticing that I was breaking out, I even have acne on my back now which I NEVER had before! I'm getting off this stuff and thinking about trying ortho tri cyclin lo.

After reading a lot of these comments I can say that I'M NOT CRAZY! Yasmin really was the cause of a lot of problems that I had. I switched from Ortho Tri Cyclin to Yasmin about two years ago because I wanted lighter periods. It took me almost that entire time to figure out why I was feeling so much different. I never had problems with spot bleeding on Ortho and Yasmin didn't change that. I did start having really bad headaches a few days before I would start my period. It also cause my hair to stop growing and become very thin. It took me forever to realize that my hair started to change about the time I changed my birth control. I have tried everything to get my hair to grow again! Nothing seems to help. I had acne in high school (around age 18) but after and up until about two years ago (age 21) my face has always been clear. After switching to Yasmin, now about two weeks before my period I break out, mostly around my jaw line ITS LIKE HIGH SCHOOL ALL OVER AGAIN. I also found that it has an effect on the face cleaner that I use. I have used proactive for the past 4-5 years out of habit and found that two weeks before my period my face has a horrible reaction to the cleanser. Its gets really red and irritated and it itches like crazy. That only lasts for a day or two tops but I never had that problem before. The worst part about Yasmin in my opinion, besides the hair loss, is that it turned me into a down right mean person. I treat my boyfriend like absolute crap, and for no good reason. I have no tolerance for anything, I snap at him constantly and I yell at him for everything. I met him about three years ago and he always asks me why I changed so much from when we met. I guess I figured it out! I'm getting off this stuff and thinking about switching to ortho tri cyclin LO, is that any better?

I have been on Ortho Tri cyclin and Tri-Nessa both for years before starting Tri-Sprintec 5 mos ago... Both of the previous two had good effects.. I had no problems and felt barely any changes in my body... Now on Tri-Sprintec I am moody beyond belief for the entire three weeks of pills.. Also I have what seems like a constant dull cramping and headached have had some spotting.. I have gotten my period at the end of each pack but its heavier than with the other pills... And lasts about week as opposed to 5 days.. I never had acne on the others but on Tri-Sprintec I get many huge, painful pimples that start deep down and hurt the whole month.. And the last and most wonderful side effect is that I have gone from 125 to 140lbs in 5 mos.. I have NEVER weighed more than 125 and in fact since I was 15 years old to my current age of 32 I have stayed at 125 lbs.. I work out 5 days a week doing spin class weighs and jogging each day... I'm switching back to Ortho-tri-cyline at the end of my current pack... End of horror story..

I love Yasmin! I've been taking it for over a year now (I'm 31). I have little to no pms, super light periods, perfect skin, and no weight gain from taking this. My only complaints would be that I do get mild, dull headaches in the temple areas of my head more often than I ever remember. They're not bad though, and they don't ever last long. They're just annoying. Also, I noticed my period doesn't show up til day 4 of the placebo pill, which can be a little nerve wracking.

My 3 close friends, 2 sisters and a sister in law of mine all take Yasmin and none of us have ever had any major complaints about it. :)

I am 24 years old and I have been using Yaz for four months now and I think it is the worst BC I have been on. When I first started, I took Ortho Tri-Cyclen because it helped with my acne. I was a little moody and crazy on that, but nothing compared to YAZ. Yaz has made me very depressed, angry, sad, have bad cyst like acne (as mentioned by an earlier post). I have stopped taking it, but just a couple days ago so it may be too early to tell if this is the real cause, but from what it sounds like, more than likely. I'm glad so many people have posted about it because for awhile there I just thought that I was going crazy!!!!!

I have been on Yasmin for 4 years. I switched from Ortho-Tri-Cyclin because the massive weight gain. I have had no visible problems with Yasmin until recently. I have not gained any weight, but I work out 5 times a week. Now, after reading other posts, I realize that I have had many of these problems. The past year or so, I have been crying for no reason at all. I have been extremely tired no matter how much sleep I get, a loss of sex drive ( which is hurting my relationship), very painful sex, and have had respiratory problems. Over the past couple of months, I have had severe gas, which has never been a problem before. It is painful. I have had very bad TMJ for about 2 years now. I have never had any problems with my jaw before then. The pain is on my left side. I just read some of the side effects of Yasmin, and left-sided jaw is one of them. I am going to talk to my Gyno about switching at my next visit. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know why this happens?

I was on Yasmin for 4 months. I HATED IT!!! What is the point of being on birth contraol if you never are able to have sex? I was constantly bleeding after the 1st month. It was as if I had my period for 3 striaght months - every single day. And not just spotting, heavy flow. I was depressed, miserable and in so much pain. I had constant cramps and back pain. I went to the ER 2 times because of this and I was told the 1st time that it was just my body's way of getting used to a different pill. After I was on it for 3 months, I went to the ER a second time because I was in so much pain and bleeding so heavily, that I could not get out of bed. I actually had to wear Depends, pads were not nearly enough! The dr at the ER the 2nd time told me that he has had a ton of cases with girls on Yasmin with the same problem and to stop taking it immediatly. About 3 or 4 days after I stopped taking it, everything was back to normal - Thank God! I was extremely hesitant to try another pill after that, but I decided to give Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo a chance and I love it. No random bleeding, no cramps and my periods are always light. Yasmin should be taken off of the market. I have a bunch of friends who tried it and went through the same problems I did.

I am 2 weeks and 3 days into taking this pill for the first month and I don't know if I should stay on it. I just started to get brownish blood/spotting and cramps in my back. I am afraid I might be pregnant although my boyfriend always pulls out on time. There is a chance that some precum got inside me, but I haven't been too worried since I don't think it's very likely to get pregnant from precum while on the pill. Should I be worried or are these symptoms normal? I also have had more frequent mood swings and anxiety, but I suffer from both anyway. From all the bad things I have heard, I am eager to switch back to Ortho-Tri Cyclen. Is there a big difference between the pills and the amount of protection they offer from getting pregnant? If any information can be given, I would really appreciate it.

I JUST started Loestrin 24 Fe (day one) and have been reading many articles and websites (anything from the literature in the research journals to the Mayo Clinic posts). I have just read through this entire site and took in all the feedback from the women who have shared the side effects. I have NEVER taken BC until now. I am trying it to keep monthly bleeding and mood swings to a minimum. BUT, I see some serious side effects (depression, acne, weight gain) - these seem worse than just dealing with the monthly symptoms and taking some pain relievers.

Should I STOP? Any advice from veteran birth control users?

And mood swings like CRAZY. one minute i was nice and friendly the next i was a huge bitch. so Yesterday i got it removed a little cramping while she was taking out but it only took about 3 minutes no blood bo cramps after. Im SO happy its gone, and i feel like a new woman today. and hopefully ill lose some weight.

I had been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for 6.5 years and NEVER eperienced any problems. I got on Femcon because I was moving to a new state and inbetween insurance companies. My doc gave me a 6month supply before I left so that I could still be on the pill. I'm on the first two weeks, and like everyone else I have experienced break through bleeding. I haven't gotten headaches or mood swings. But as a teacher and a coach, I can't afford to have any of these problems. I'll stick it out for a little bit longer until my new insurance kicks in, but then I think I'm switching back. Anyone know how long this bleeding will last??? did anyone stay on it long enough to see if things setteled down afterwards?

Hi all,
I switched to yasmin from ortho tri-cyclin lo about 2 months ago. I was on the ortho for 6 months, and i couldn't handle the moodiness anymore. My skin also still broke out when i had my period because of the cycling dose of hormones. My moodiness on Yasmin has not improved and has gotten even worse lately, also, I have been having chronic heartburn and stabbing chest pain ever since I started. I really don't know what to do, I need to be on birth control, but I really don't want to have to use condoms, and my periods are so bad untreated that all of the mood swings are almost worth it. Has anyone who's had problems with Yasmin found a hormone that doesn't completely turn them into a man-eating psycho bitch? because i feel like i hate myself and have completely ceased to feel anything but anger and depression. Someone please respond... I know I'm not experiencing some of the horrible things i've read on this site, but I am miserable and lost all the same. Please help me

Hello Yasmin users, PLEASE HELP WITH ANY ADVICE:

I was concerned about weight gain with BCP
(Ortho Tri Cyclin made me gain too much weight 30pds in under 1 yr)
my OBGYN recomended Yasmin, she said it had the opposite effect. I have been on this pill for about 2 years. One of the first and biggest side effect I noticed right away was rapid weight loss - I was not doing anything different with my exersize regimine or eating.
Also in the beggining and worsened, after staring YASMIN:
Depression, which I went to see my doctor about twice and she said it would go away. - and third, like a downward spiral getting worse and worse now above all is no libido. I have been complaining about this and she said loss of libido is normal with ALL BCP and if she switched me it would make no difference. I am frustraed with her responses to my issues.

IS THIS TRUE? Are they all the same??????

I also get a lot of headaches on this pill and I never hardly ever got a headache before. My eyes sometimes twitches too, which is weird. It seems like if I don't take the pill the same time every day and I wait until later - then I get headache or nausea.

I also noticed I feel better when I am on the placebo pills and are on my period, and actually feel kind of "in the mood" for alck of better terms.

I am willing to take a pill with weight gain side effects!! - if I can have my sex drive back!!!!!

PLEASE DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS ANOTHER PILL THAT I CAN LOOK INTO?
HOW ABOUT ORTHO EVRA??????????

Hi.
I appreciate all of your thoughts on this.

I have been on Yasmin for close to 3 years now (started it in europe and then when i returned, it received FDA approval).

My husband has said that I have become increasingly anxious. I didn't know if there was any correlation but it appears that there might be.

I will discuss this Wednesday with the OB/GYN. Does anyone have a good alternative suggestion if I wanted to stay on the pill?

I have tried Ortho Tri-cyclin and gotten horrible headaches.
