I'm so happy I found this site. I was on Ovcon 25 for 3 years and was given Femcon last week at my annual exam and was told it was the same makeup as Ovcon. I can't believe the effect its had on my body after only 7 days. I'm an extremely happy, sexually active young woman and I have been crying at everything and anything and have NO sex drive. I've been on the pill consistently for over 10 years and have never had side effects like this. Nausea, fatigue, mood swings and anxiety are other strong side effects that I've noticed. I'm stopping Femcom today and will wait until next month to start my old brand. My boyfriend, friends, and family will be so thankful!

I have been on femcon for about a year and a half and prior to that i was on ovcon for 4 years. The only side effect I have had with taking femcon is headaches. However, for the past week, I've been experiencing breast tenderness. I take Femcon everyday and I use condoms as a backup plan to be extra safe. Does anyone know all of a sudden why a person may experience new side effects despite being on Femcon for a year?? is this normal?

If you used to take Ovcon 35 and your doctors claims that Femcon Fe is the new Ovcon....they're lying! My doctor told me that for the past year and I just went to the pharmacy to get my new prescription of Ovcon 35! It does exist if you still want it :) I can't wait to start my new pack! I can't been on this pill in over a year thanks to insurance/doctors pushing the generic at me.

Hi ladies, my Dr just gave me 4 mos of sample packs for Femcon Fe. I've read that it's the chew able version of Ovcon, and I haven't read this many bad experiences with Ovcon. I wonder if anyone has had a good experience with this drug and am a little worried about starting it. I am going to finish out my last pack of Yaz and I guess we'll go from there. This will be my 6th pill since 2003, as I have had breakthrough bleeding with all the others, including Yaz. I did read on Femcon's website that this is a good pill to take to stop breakthrough bleeding, has anyone taken this pill and NOT had breakthrough bleeding??? Please someone let me know!

Hi,

You name it, I had it. Fatigue, Headaches, Racing heart, palpitations, chest pain, naseau, sleeplessness, melasma. This is the second time this has happened to me. The first time was in 2003 on Ovcon. My gyn then put me on Aviane, a generic brand with lower hormone levels. A year later I went to and endocronolic specialist, who decided to put me on Yasmine, not sure why, but like so many people, I did as I was told (blind trust). I just this month reached the climax of my symptoms and decided to see a doctor. Just as someone else posted, the first thing they said was ANXIETY. They said I have been on Yasmine to long to just now start feeling side effects. I gave a rundown of everything I was feeling and they sent me for blood work.

Results are I am enemic. I have an iron deficiency. This I knew from my younger years. What I am curious about, is whether or not Yasmine has an effect on the level of iron in your blood. Can it worsen your enemia?

Okay. So I was on Depo Provera for 4 cycles a few years ago....and hated it. So, I went off of birth control for about a year. My doctor put me on yasmin about 2 years ago. I had no problems at first, but for the past 5 months I have been having abnormal hair loss, weight gain, mild depression/mood swings, and I am easily aggravated. I don't understand this, but it sounds like others are experiencing similar side effects. I tried NuvaRing, but only for one cycle. I didn't like too much. Are there any BCP's that anyone knows about that don't have these side effects? I've tried Ortho-Tri, Ovcon, Triphasil, and now Yasmin...thanks to whomever started this side effect posting.

Hi,

I was takin Ovcon (BC) pill and was having headaches, fatigue, lightheadness, and chest pain. My doctors have switched me to Yasmin. I have not began to take it yet. I was just wondering if I will expereince the same side effects? The doctors told me Yasmin had the lowes side effects of all BC.

I noticed alot of people who are troubled by symptoms in the first 3 months of taking the pill. With any pill you are messing arround with your hormones and it's going to cause side effects untill your body can become accostomed to the new levels. Most doctors will tell you to stick it out for 3 months unless the pill is seriously not working (the first one i tried, Ovcon, didn't do a thing to lessen my insanely heavy periods so i switched to Yasmin after two months). Likewise, every person's body reacts differently to hormones. some people are extreemly sensitive while other's are not. Different pills usually offer different combinations of two hormones, so it might take some time to figure out what hormones your body reacts to the best. For me, Yasmin has worked very well. i did have a little weight gain but eating right and exercising keeps it in control now. the biggest side effect that i notice is vaginal dryness but most pills will cause that. In my opinion, don't be discouraged by some of the remarks here if you are about to try yasmin: make your own decision. It might turn out that it's the perfect pill for you or it may turn out not to be. You'll never know until you try, I have several friends who are on it and are very happy with it and others who have switched off of it and are happier with another pill.

I've been taking Yasmin for 1 yr and 4 months. 4 months after I began taking Yasmin, I started breaking out in hives every day, sometime so bad that I required steroid shots to relieve the hives (diagnosed as cholinergic urticaria). I also began gaining weight at an alarming rate. My doctors found that I was severely hypothyroid, and linked this to both the weight gain and the hives and began treating me with thyroid hormone. There has been little relief from the hives, and now my gyneocologist has finally admitted that Yasmin could be the cause. She says that I could either be allergic to the special type of progestin that is in Yasmin, or just sensitive to the hormone balance (some pregnant women experience hives like mine).

I actually really liked being on Yasmin before I began to think that it could be the cause of this major problem. My emotions have been better and more stable than ever before, and my periods have been very predictable and light. Lately though, my period has been getting shorter and shorter. My doctor says that this is because the Yasmin does not have enough estrogen for my body. I've felt really good also because of the diuretic that is included in Yasmin, and I'm expecting some water weight gain when I change to OvCon.

I have used many different birth controls (Ortho Cyclen, Ortho Tricyclen, DepoProvera). Every person's body is different, and that's why you can search for any birth control on this website and find similar amounts of postings with similar complaints. I think that after a couple of years on any birth control a woman's body begins to change and adapt and requires a different type of hormone balance to stay healthy. If switching to OvCon really solves the problem of my hives, I will never recommend this pill to anyone. I will post again to let you know if my hives have been alleviated.

I just wanted to respond to someone looking for a great birth control pill. I have had one child and being slightly over-weight has always been a problem for me. After I had my daughter, my doctor put me on Ovcon! I did not even feel like I was on anything. I did not gain any wieght, infact I was actually able to continue to lose pregnancy weight. It has also been affective in doing its intended job. (No more children yet) I have been on it almost two years and I swear by it. I was some orthos before I got pregnant and hated them.

I read this forum before taking Yasmin, and I thought everyone's body is different so I gave it a try. I have no complains with this drug. I have tried other bc pills, like Ovcon, and Alesse. I was bleeding very heavy when i was on Ovcon, and had continuous bleeding from Alesse. I have no complains with Yasmin because my period would always come on time, and although I still have cramps, but it's not as bad as before. Just wanted to say that there are women out there who can tolerate this drug quite well.

I am at the end of my third month for Yasmin... I was on Ovcon before that for four months but it was not helping my periods. My whole point of getting on the pill was to regulate my periods, and help with the intense pain... Since Ovcon didn't work I was put on Yasmin which has regulated me to the tee... However, all sex drive is gone, I get opthamalic (sp) migraines...headaches... My husband says I'm moody and he blames the pill for everything... I didn't even know I was being moody and now I can tell that my attitude has changed....but I can't go back to how my periods were before...they were just awful and I had them every two weeks for 7 - 10 days at a time.... The sex drive is the biggest issue with me...I already had gotten the weight gain from the Ovcon and my face looked like I was 16 (I'm 29)... Yasmine has cleared up my face though.... If there was a way to get my sex drive back I would love it...I can deal with the other affects. But there are side effects to every pill. I would not use the pill merely for birth control. In fact my husband and I had been using Natural Family Planning which had been working out great...with the exception that I was bleeding half my life away.... It's not worth it to go through all the side effects when there are many other ways of preventing pregnancy.

I am 28 years old and have been taking Yasmin for 4-5 months now. I have tried many different bcp's (Ortho-Novum, Ortho-Tricyclen, Tri-Phasil, Ovcon, Estro-step, etc) and have had a lot of side effects such as acne, mood swings, and weight gain. With Yasmin, I have noticed some mood swings-but I notice these whenever I am taking any kind of bcp. The side effect I worry about the most, however, is weight gain. This if the FIRST bcp that has not caused me any weight gain. As happy as I am about this turn of events, I have noticed that my sex drive is much diminished and I now have vaginal dryness which has never been a problem for me. I have also had dizziness but am unsure whether this is related to Yasmin.
