I got married in July 2008 and I knew that I needed some BC because I am in nursing school. My Mirena was inserted in March 2008, I didn't want to try BC pills and I HATED The NuvaRing. So my I choose Mirena, It hurt like Hell when they inserted it. But other that that I had not had any problems. In June 2009, I had bad cramping and like a mucousy/bloody discharge., after taking Pain relievers for a few days and then I was fine, But now I have gained so much weight (14lbs in a few months) My belly is perfectly round and my breast have increased size, I am always hungry and craving CRAZY things and feel nausea mainlky at night and I have had increased urination, mood swings, headaches, bloating and Constipation so many prego related symptoms, but my strings are still intact so I am still worried that I am prego and I have been doing a lot of research on this topic and there have been many women in the position that I am in...not to mention if i am what harmful things are happening to the fetus.

I started taking Doxycycline Hyclate for an infection....i had been taking it for about 4 days.....one night i take the medicine and i go to sleep.....i wake up the following day with the painful and disturbing sensation that something was stuck in my throat.....and drinking a lot of water to make it go away was in vain......in a couple of days i had trouble eating and drinking and also breathing - i felt burns in the upper back...constant pain.....so I just stopped taking them.....After a couple of days i go back to my doctor and try to explain all the symptoms and try to tell him that i think that it has to do with the medicine that he prescribed....he cuts me off "No, that,s not possible, the medicine I prescribed was for something else!" .....ok ....so I'm thinking "he's the doctor, he knows better, after all he went to school for that!!!!" ....so instead of actually listening to all my symptoms he takes blood test to see what is the cause of my pain; an infection? the liver? etc. etc..........and then at night I come home, I google the side effect of Doxycycline Hyclate and see that I am not crazy...that this happened to a lot of people and that I NEED TO CHANGE MY DOCTOR!!!! Oh, by the way, the doctor prescribed me Propoxyphene-N 100W/APAP (some pain relievers) and told me to take them 10 days without stopping even if the pain goes away!!!!!??????!!!!!!?????!!!!........................L.

I knew right off the bat that the NR was making me crazy, but I wanted to see if the side effect would go away. It did not. And things just kept getting worse. I was having some intense mood swings, angry about the most useless things. I would cry in a second. It got to be an issue.
The worst part for me was on the days i would put it in I would get such a bad migraine that all i could do was lay in bed and cry. No pain relievers could help. Also, I run and train for half-marathons and in the last month i have been putting weight on, especially my stomach, even though I have been running up to 3 miles a day.
I am done. today was the end.
Thank you all for your useful posts. It solidified my decision.

I was prescribed this about two weeks ago. I knew I had high blood pressure and decided to work on getting it lowered. I started taking this and immediately had headaches in my temple...then numbness up by my cheeks and something that felt like hot flashes. I would get dizzy, was extremely tired, couldn't concentrate and had one of the worst cases of diarrhea I had ever experienced. My distant vision became very blurred. However, I thankfully never got the cough.

I spoke with the doctor about this and she said that there was no way this drug was causing my headaches. I'm scheduled for an MRI tomorrow and she wanted me to have a temporal biopsy, which I think is drastic.

I read an article from a medical journal that low blood pressure can cause headaches. This was just published last spring of 2008. I started getting the 24/7 headaches 3 days after I took Lisinopril. Aspirin or pain relievers never helped.

I took myself off of it two days ago. Yesterday I was so weak and tired with headaches all day long ...however today, I'm beginning to feel much better with much more energy. The numbness is disappearing in my cheeks and the headaches have greatly reduced.

I am thinking about a natural alternative to this ...losing weight...exercising and going on the dash diet. Unless of course the MRI shows something. I also thought about cutting the dosage of the pills in half or to one quarter.

I'm on my third day and came to this site to see if anyone else had experienced headaches. Pain relievers are not helping. Constant throbbing headaches.

My 6 y/o daughter has been taking Singular for approx. 2 years. She began to have regular stomach pains shortly there after. She was sent to Children's hospital where they put her on a laxitive which made things worse. Then we began testing for food allergies only to find out that she tested positive for a 3 page list of foods. We eliminated those food and had her tested again. She was subsequently allergic to the foods we eliminated. She was recently down to rice, a few meats and some vegetables. Guess what, she is now allergic to those foods.

All this time she has been complaining of severe leg pain, eye pain, throat pain, numbness and tingling in her hands a feet, all of which come an go. I have reported this to all the doctors and specialists we have seen. She had undergone countless blood tests to rule out autoimmune disorders and all come up negative.

She began to develop severe anxiety and just had the blues most of the time. She would be crying and saying off the wall things like, "I don't think my fish is happy". She couldn't stand to be away from me and would stress out about even weather or not she would sit by me at a restaurant. I mentioned this to all of the doctors. They said to not make too much of it. One suggested she see a psychologist. NOT ONE DOCTOR EVER LOOKED AT THE SINGULAR.

Finally about 4 weeks ago my neighbor who is a scientist at a pharmaceutical company called me and told me about the "black box" warning that had just come out on Singular. I took both of my children off of it immediately. My daughter went through about a 10 day period where her anxiety got worse and then it was just gone. We are adding foods back into her diet and at this point she has not had any severe allergic reactions.

The last 2 years have been a complete nightmare for her and for us. I am a medical professional and I have had doctors treat me like a hypocondriac, hypersensitive, attention seeking mother. I feel so justified and saddened by the recent findings all at the same time. Most of all I am so grateful that we figured this out before things go even worse.

Please let me know if anyone else is suffering food related reactions as a side effect.

Hey ya'll I just thought I would share too. I was having crippling pain and I work with infants so I can't take any pain relievers of any kind because it could impair my judgment and cause a serious problem so......When I started to feel like something was wrong down in my southern region in February first thought was pregnant but when my period rolled around in March I knew something was seriously wrong. I went to my Dr. to get the referal to see a specialist and after telling him the type and amount of pain I was in and the different pain killers I had tried and the combinations he put me on a pain patch they give to people who are dying of cancer to help them deal with the pain (No work for me). Went to the specialist had some sonograms that liked to have killed me because they wanted me to have a full bladder and my pain was so bad that if I ate anything or my bladder even started to fill up I would get so sick from the severe pain. So they did the sonograms I promptly wet myself (so embarrassing but unavoidable due to the pain I couldn't get up with the full bladder) Went back to the Specialist he said "Ok, from what I see here and the photo's you showed me from a procedure in 2006 we are going to need to do a hysterectomy and described to me the gruesome details of a woman that had endo and it was so bad it got to her brain and killed her. Well we set a date for surgery and OF COURSE THE INSURANCE COMPANY WANTS TO ARGUE. They say we wont approve the Surgery unless she takes 2 months of Lupron first. So I had no choice but to pay for these $700.00 torture I never thought I would pay so much to torture myself. The doctor explained that the first 2 weeks would be bad and then he said IT WILL GET BETTER. (HAHAHAHAHAHA AINT HE A DAMN COMIDIAN) I had symptoms 10 times worse the first 2 weeks I thought to myself oh my god what have I done!?!?!?!?! BUT after that the pain got better it really did, it got better. I didn't know about all the side effects of the drug just the hot flashes and no period thing and the mood swings. So when I was having headaches I just assumed it was screaming kids, but I still had the headaches on the weekends. When all the muscles in my legs started to get sore I thought I am doing more than I used to but after a month of soreness I began to wonder. During this time I was having trouble sleeping but I thought it was from another pill I was taking so I stopped taking it still no sleep or verry little. Then last night I got no sleep because I had muscle spasms. This morning I thought my potassium is low I have had that problem before but then I thought about the fact that I have been eating the required stuff to keep it up.So that was the last straw. I found this site that links all the problems I have been having to the Lupron. But the things I knew about the Hot Flashes like clock work come at the same time every night, and any time I get the slightest touch of heat from food, outside temp(I live in Texas) or activity I get so HOT and start sweating from everywhere even had one little kid tell his mom "Hey look that lady is peeing on herself" I was sweating so bad.The mood swings......in the time it took me to get into a room at my main Dr.'s office with 2 sick kid's(approx. 1 hour) I was fine, then I was so mad I was cussing, then I was crying in the floor of the Dr.'s office with my 2 kid's saying it's ok mommy, then I was laughing hysterically at which time the Dr. said to hurry up and get me out of there before my mood changed again.(He was trying to sound funny but I am sure he was serious.) AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST the only other thing it did for me that was helping was No period. Wow I can deal with the period or I could deal with the pain I was in but not both. So given No with no real choice in the matter(to be able to have any kind of surgery that would help I had to do the shots) I have tortured myself relentlessly to get to the end of all this. But the Icing on the cake is that about four days before I got the second shot I was starting to hurt again and now five days before I go back I am starting to feel the pain again. And all I can say is the insurance company better approve the surgery on Tuesday or there will be one more person wearing a Straight Jacket because after all this if I don't get permanent relief I will be nothing short of Bonkers.

I was put on Singulair about 2 years ago because of my COPD. No allergies were ever mentioned by my Doctor. This site has been a god send for me.
Since starting Singulair I have been put on Digoxin for an irregular heart beat that I never had before. I have been put on Gabapentin for leg pain and cramping in my feet whenever I put my feet up or laid down to TRY and get to sleep. I have been put on so many pain killers for back pain, leg pain, neck pain I can't even count them all. I won't take them, they make me so sick. Now I find that I wake up with a headache every morning, feeling sick..oh yes, I was given medication for nausea also. And I don't want to forget the six months of experiencing never ending dizzy spells. That was another medication to ad to the list of ALL THE MEDICATIONS I HAVE TAKEN OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS for the side effects of Singulair. I stopped taking it a couple of days ago and I woke up this morning feeling so good. Oh, lets not forget the Xanax, Prozac and Cymbalta for depression.......OMG! I'm looking forward to see how many of these medications I can toss now that I've stopped taking Singulair. I just wish I had found this site two years ago, oh yeah, I am on Advair also. I've been, lets say "in a chronic bad mood" too. Some would say a "B". I've already noticed a difference there too.

HEY!! WOW!!! THANK YOU LORD! I thank everyone for posting! I have been taking Lisinopril for 2 days and just after two days I noticed the following, YES TWO (2) DAYS!:

Extreme Dizziness
Lightheaded
Increased Heart Rate
Awful Headache

At first I thought these were PMS symptoms but I have become great at combating these with exercises and fruit - as soon as I get my heart rate up and build a sweat and eat some fruit, I am fine. BUT I tried this the other day and I felt so groggy and fatigued. And I am a stickler for not taking medications, even OTC Pain Relievers, I believe in "Au Natural"... anyway I went to the park and walking up a simple hill, I felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest. Then the headache seem to have gotten worse as well as the nausea. For breakfast I had a Kale Smoothie (OJ, Kale, Pear, Ice Blended) and didn't go for the walk until about an hour later. I consumed some water and started at a slow pace, but that didn't help. I also felt very tense and anxious and I thought WAIT A MINUTE! So I started to retrace my 'steps' of what I had eaten (Sunday Night: Red Beans w/ Brown Rice, Mashed Sweet Potatoes, and Turnip Greens) I said, okay nothing out of the ordinary there. Monday and Tuesday light meals such as a Falafel and Salad ... so I said let me read the side effects of this medicine and sure enough, the Nausea and Dizziness was on the printout from the pharmacy! I said okay this is it. I am not taking this stuff anymore, it's only been TWO FREAKING DAYS!! I'd hate if I take it longer. I am going to call my doctor to schedule an appointment to go over these symptoms, and opt for another prescription. In the interim, I am increasing my water intake and drinking prune juice as well as raw leafy veggies to help with the detox. And moderate walking to get my pores opened up. Thanks again and I appreciate all of your comments. Be prayerful and take good GOD care! LS, 28 year old black female

I am a 33-year-old female. I was taking YAZ birth control. I woke up on a Friday morning with a bad cramping feeling in my left calf. By the end of the day, I was limping. By the middle of that night into Saturday morning, I woke up in such excruciating pain. I could not walk without help. I went to the ER. They ran an ultrasound and found nothing. They said I had a "pulled muscle" and sent me home. Went to my PCP on Monday. He said it was "phlebitis" and sent me home. He told me to return in 3 days. Did that. This whole time I told them my left foot was cold, the leg was discolored, and that I could not walk! Hello! I went back in 3 days, but this time he was finally alarmed when he couldn't find a pulse in my left foot (never checked that in the first place) and sent me back to the ER. The same jerk ran another ultrasound, and there was the clot. I've been on warfarin since February. In the beginning, I had TERRIBLE HEADACHES (which have since subsided). Now I am dealing with this: CONSTANT BODY PAINS (especially my back and ribs), OVERALL BODY SORENESS (kind of like when you have the flu), FATIGUE, DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, BLOATING AND GAS (I wake up with a huge painful puffy stomach every morning), CRAMPS (like having a period without one), sometimes DIARRHEA, STOMACH ACHES. When I reported the initial body pains to both the specialist and my PCP upon my follow-up visits after being discharged, both looked at me like I was crazy or making it up or something. I came home in tears after seeing the specialist. I thought he would be the one to know about this stuff! Instead, he made me feel like an idiot or crazy person. I was totally insulted and cried on the way home. I am so annoyed and have lost all faith in doctors. They should all have to retake their Anatomy and Physiology courses so they can be reminded what their ears are for. Why don't they listen to their patients? This is insane! I am so disgusted with this whole mess. I just want to give up.

I got Mirena put in December 20, 2007. Getting it put in was the most painful experience of my life and I handle pain really well. I'm 21, no kids. I spotted all day and had the worst cramping and searing pain all day. I took pain relievers constantly all day and it did NOTHING!! I suffered through the night and had to go to the emergency room to have it removed. Apparently the doctor told me my body was rejecting it and it was forcing its way out. Well getting it out was a relief. That is until the next day I still had the swollen stomach and severe cramps still. I also started bleeding heavier than I ever had in my life. It's been three days since I got it removed and I'm still bloated, swollen, in pain, and miserable. This was the biggest mistake of my life!! I wish I had found this site before I got it because the pamphlet I got on it didn't even touch the severity of the symptoms. I would NOT recommend this to anyone. It will be the biggest mistake of you life!!!

I just had my first child almost 3 months ago, and I wanted to get on Yaz because I heard that helped with depression and heavy periods, which I experienced before I had my baby. My Dr said that I couldn't go on Yaz because I was breastfeeding, but that Mirena helped with those things and lasted for five years, and explained the other conveniences of it. So I had it put in at the end of November. I took 800 mg of ibuprofen on the advice of the doctor before I went in, and the insertion was hardly painful at all. I experienced some light cramping for about 10 minutes, and then some stronger cramping that night after the pain relievers had worn off. I had light spotting for a week and then my period started, a full blown period, heavy flow and mood swings, not quite as bad cramping as usual, but enough to make me nauseous once or twice. Today is the 10th day of my period. This morning I woke suddenly with a severe pain in my lower right abdomen, that pierced through to my back and radiated down my thigh and leg. I immediately took 5 ibuprofen (more than I took before the insertion), and the pain wore off after approx. 30 minutes, (I wasn't exactly watching the clock, I was busy writhing in pain on the bed and crying). I have also had several mood swings in the last few weeks but I thought it had to do with my fiance and the baby, we have been fighting anyway. So later when I got up I searched the Internet for side effects I found this site and read all of the posts, and now I am frightened that I will develop more side effects. I just hope I don't start imagining things, the mind is very powerful. Let's all wish each other luck with this. I am starting to think maybe I should get this thing removed and just use the pill or condoms. Good luck to us all.

I am getting mine removed FRIDAY!! And Friday can't come soon enough. I am kinda bummed tho for having to go back on the pill but I can't hack this ANY LONGER!!! One of my friends works for a GP and I went to him because of some of my side effects. The flu like symptoms minus having the flu (had it for at least 2 to 3 mos now) NO sex drive (causing trouble with my marriage. Hubby is taking it WAY to personal), swelling in my hands, feet, legs, and face. (my face will feel flush and BAM I'm swollen!!) VERY BAD MOOD SWINGS!!! Very Bad isn't the word for it!! There are no words to explain my moods!! ANYHOW..... I sent this to my friend to read and she pulled it up at work. Well the GP said that this isn't a reliable place to go for information on the side effects. "There are NO positive side effects to anything." Which is true BUT he seems to think going to Web MD or some sight like that is more reliable than here. And that this sight shouldn't scare me and he wouldn't urge me to have it removed after reading this. (OH YEAH I forgot to mention joint pain, I have HORRIBLE joint pain in my hands, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles, and feet. The worst of it is in my wrists and elbows) Back to what I was saying. To that (this sight not being reliable) I say go to Web MD and post there too! I pray that I can get back to me after this comes out!! I hope it don't take too long either! I MISS the old me and HATE the new me!! But FRIDAY HURRY UP AND GET HERE. And for anyone who has had it removed........ anything I should be repaired for??? Thanks for your time!

I JUST started Loestrin 24 Fe (day one) and have been reading many articles and websites (anything from the literature in the research journals to the Mayo Clinic posts). I have just read through this entire site and took in all the feedback from the women who have shared the side effects. I have NEVER taken BC until now. I am trying it to keep monthly bleeding and mood swings to a minimum. BUT, I see some serious side effects (depression, acne, weight gain) - these seem worse than just dealing with the monthly symptoms and taking some pain relievers.

Should I STOP? Any advice from veteran birth control users?

I have only used the ring for one cycle and a few weeks in there were a few days of excruciating nausea and lower intestinal pain. Otherwise, just general discomfort a couple of times a week. I removed the ring last Friday and have been having continuous nausea and abdominal discomfort since last Thursday. No pain relievers that generally do the trick are working, not even my failsafe Midol. Besides being worrisome about my health, it's wearing having to put up with all of this. I've only been married for a few weeks and it's already putting a damper on things as I have no drive.

I have been using neurontin after a fall (5yrs ago) which left me with extreme back, neck and head pain. I really couldn't stand the way it made me feel because they also had me on Motrin, as well a host of other pain relievers, did some epidural & lumbar injections, etc. So I took it less frequently than was origibally prescribed. I have been noticing that my teeth often hurt and they definitely have been moving. Causes severe headaches and face pain. My bite is now off. Recently, I've been getting awful headaches compounded by a strong car sick/dizziness that lasts for days. My teeth, although no visible damage such as cavities, discolorization, are extremely sensitive and have moved so much that I often bite the sides of my mouth, etc. I've heard recently that neurontin sometimes cause mouth/teeth pain and such. Is it possible that this was all caused by the neurontin, and how do I correct it. Is it too late or will not taking it at all reverse the damage?

I have asthma and used to get chronic bronchitis, twice a year for aprox. 30-40 yrs. I lost my husband 4 yrs ago and began having migraines. In addition to prednisone, I was a guinea pig for migraine meds. and pain relievers. Eventually we found that a beta blocker would prevent and another drug would relieve a migraine so i was loaded for bear. I also took about 8 advil every day just to move my hips in the morning. I was loosing control of my weight again. Feeling depressed about what I was doing to my self.
One day I heard about MSG and remembered a teacher in 1980 telling me to "stay away from that stuff, its poison" and we would laugh and say "Alright, Mr Rhodes" and keep eating the cheese curls because they were soo good. well I became curious and started researching MSG and I was amazed and appauled. Google it sometime, and follow the webring on the bottom of some of the pages. It hit home with me. I began changing my eating habits for me and my children. It was a slow process and alot of trial and error, but we have found foods that everyone likes and I balance it out. My 12 year old daughter was slow to come around, but she began trying new stuff and seeing that "healthy" isnt all bad. I use only whole wheat flour, brown raw sugar, NO ASPERTAME EVER, fresh druits and veggies, small portions of meat, and organic when i can afford to. I have lost 49 lbs since november and i feel great! after some weight came off I began to exercise, and slowly stopped taking medications. Today I am happy to say that I am drug free, Not even advil and I blame MSG as the main culprit. Other things I avoided is hydrogelated/hydrogenated oils of any kind, high fructose corn sugar. If I can help even one person by sharing my experience I am grateful. Please if you have trouble, try to live MSG free. Its hard work at first but you learn what is good and what is not. Oh my daughter has lost weight too and is thrilled!! Best regards. Teri
