Hey all,
Just had the Mirena put in last Wednesday. Did not hurt at all (I was SOOOO scared that it was going to!). In fact, I literally didn't realize that she had already put it in. I had a TINY bit of cramping after. Nothing like pmsing or anything. And that was for like 20 minutes a little after I got home. I took some IBProfin and had not had any cramps since. Very minimal bleeding. I am breastfeeding so I am not sure if that plays a role with the bleeding.
So this leaves me with one question (well, just one that I want to post and get responses to)....
For all that had problems with the Mirena, did they start from the beginning? From the moment that it was inserted? I wonder if there is a link...well, honestly I am kinda hoping there is a link. It would ease my mind a bit and it would let all of the women who have problems from the get go know that it isn't for them and it could be removed right then.
Oh, and for those that had a problem with the acne, how long after the Mirena was inserted did the acne come into play?
Thanks in advance!

I was on Yasmin since 2001. I LOVED it, it was great for me. At the end of 2006, I read about Yaz and asked my doc to switch me and so he did. I developed hives and cystic acne all over my face and back. It was terrible, and I thought it would get better but it got worse. So after 3 months of Yaz i went back to Yasmin. I currently have no health insurance and have been paying out of pocket for it. EXPENSIVE! but worth it. I never had any negative side effects while on Yasmin. It actually was beneficial for me, cleared up my skin, no more ovarian cysts, lighter periods and little cramping. For me Yasmin works great. Until I had to stop taking it 2 weeks ago, everything was rosy. I moved from NYC to Upstate NY, 300 miles away, and transferred my prescription for Yasmin. When it ran out last month, I called my doctor in the city to request a refill and he declined without me going to visit him for an exam since it has been over a year, which is ethical but BAD for me, because it's not convenient or cost effective for me to get to my doc 300 miles from here. So I went to Planned Parenthood and they refused to prescribe Yasmin for me because I checked the box in the health history that asked if I have ever had a history of headaches. I have gotten tension headaches for years but none in the last few years and they told me that because I checked the box they can;t prescribe anything with estrogen in it to me. I was so mad, I walked out without my exam. I called my doc in NYC and am taking the train down for an appointment this week. Unfortunately, I have to spend a month off Yasmin. I have been on one pill or another since 1993, so I know what works for me by now, and Yasmin has been a GODSEND. I am currently a disaster. I have developed severe cramping and bloating in my abdomen, which is normally flat as a pancake thanks to working out a ton, I am ravenous and want to eat EVERYTHING, I am moody and have developed a few large painful acne cysts on my face, and so far it's only been 2 weeks off, 3 if you count the placebo pill week. I want to kill someone. I am totally miserable. My mood was level all the time on Yasmin and I never had acne and my ovarian cysts had ceased. Did I mention that I am miserable? I am experiencing extreme fatigue as well. I am actually considering going to the county clinic tomorrow just because I can't take it anymore. I'd sooner take the morning after pill (which Planned Parenthood gave to me to take before they gave me a script for some stupid progestin-only pill) to trigger my period, which I think I am going to do, and order a month of Yasmin through an online Mexican pharmacy, just to get this nightmare to cease. I'm going to go do just that right now. I can;t take it anymore.

I received a Kenalog shot 2 weeks ago for the inflammation of a slight tear in my right rotator cuff. About 5 days ago, my face broke out in an oily, inflamed, painful acne. This happened once before when Kenalog was given to me for severe allergy symptoms. I am not interested in any lawsuit action, but will think twice before allowing another injection for any reason. The reduced pain seemed worth it, but I have to wonder what the acne response is indicating.

I've been taking Yaz since about October or November. I rarely ever had even a headache before taking Yaz, and I noticed that I began having migranes almost every day if not every day after beginning to take Yaz. I never even would have imagined that it could have been my BCP but after reading all of these reviews and having almost all of the side effects that these other women are having, I've decided that I need to talk with my obgyn about changing contraceptives.
Since starting Yaz I've had the following:
-Migranes every day or every other day
-Violent Mood Swings
- Feelings of being overwhelmed
- Fellings of extreme anger and rage
-Joint pain in my knees and hips
- Decrease in Sex Drive
-Emotional spells ( crying for no reason, or being sad for no reason)
-Blurred Vision
-Weight Gain
-Increase in cup size
-Painful Acne
I'm 21 years old. There should be no decrease in my sex drive. Now don't get me wrong. Yaz has it's good points as well, but for the most part, my experience with it has been negative. The good part about it is that my periods are regular, whereas before they were all over the place.
I've started fights with my boyfriend, when no fight or argument should have happened, and I've become filled with rage and anger at family gatherings.
It works for some people but for myself and many others, I see, it's not been very pleasant to take.

I have been taking Lisinopril 40mg.for about 4 months now for high BP. It works very well for the BP issue. Since I have started taking it I have had the dry cough, but its not so bad that I would have change anything because of the fact that it IS helping my BP. I have also noticed that I have been getting the numbness in my arms mostly my left. My Nephrologist mentioned that its Steal Syndrom caused from my Fistula Creation (dialysis access). After reading these posted side affects I think its from Lisinopril. ALSO, in the past 2 months I have been getting acne. First thought it was from my diet, but I have not changed anything in my diet. Its almost like my body is trying to get rid of something in my system. This is not the ordinary acne problem, this is on my face, back of my neck(hairline), on my shoulders and back. The "acne" gets very bad and when I get something out of the sores it has a very strong metallic type smell. Also, I am experiencing the itching, which has been getting worse the past few days. As of today I will NOT be taking any more Lisinopril. I am certain Lisinopril is the cause of all of my problems. Has anyone experienced acne from this product??
Thanks,
Shawn

I had the Mirena inserted before starting chemotherapy in August 2007. I thought all of the side effects were related to chemo and steroids, but I've been off of those for 5 months now. I'm beginning to think all of my symptoms are being caused by the Mirena. I have horrible, painful acne. The worst I've ever had in my entire life and I'm 34yrs old. I had weight gain with the steroids, but have only been able to lose 10 lbs since I stopped taking them. I have headaches, dizziness, fatigue, acne, dry skin, dry mouth, itchy scalp, seem to be loosing a lot of hair in the shower, no sex drive, no orgasm, insomnia, nightmares, lack of concentration... and the list goes on. I went to see a dermatologist who told me the acne was mostly likely being cause by the hormones from the Mirena. I'm calling my Ob first think on Monday to have it removed. I can't wait to feel like myself again.

Getting Mirena, is the worst decision I've ever made. I've only had Mirena since August 2008, and I'm getting it taken out this afternoon, and I can not wait to get this infectious alien out of my body! I had no idea it had such severe side effects! My skin, which, even as a teenager, has always been clear, is now covered with intense painful acne. The bleeding is insane. I've had constant bleeding since the insertion of my Mirena, and there is no sign of slowing down. The bleeding is heavier than any period I've ever had before. My mood has become intolerable. I can't even stand myself anymore. Every little thing seems like the end of the world. I'm constantly angry and irritable. I flip out on my hubby all the time about nothing. I used to love intercourse with my hubby. Now, I don't even want him touching me. Even if I did want to have intercourse, I couldn't because of all this disgusting blood constantly pouring out of me all day every day. I had brutal cramping after the insertion of Mirena, and assumed they would subside, but the cramps still continue! Another thing, which I thought was unrelated until I read someone else's complaint on this site, was that I had rectal pain. SEVERE rectal pain. I have an infant to take care of, and I went to pick her up, and literally fell to the ground because an intolerable, sever pain shot through my backside! I couldn't even believe it! I honestly thought I'd somehow gotten an hemroid! When I read the other person's response, I realized what really was going on. I can't have all these horrible things going on with my body, when my focus needs to be on my new baby girl. It's making it impossible for me to do my job as a mother! I do NOT recommend Mirena for anyone. The side effects are too risky. I can't even believe it can get stuck inside of you, to the point you may need surgery! Had I realized that from the beginning, Mirena never would've been considered as an option for me. It's my fault for not doing the research, but it's now my responsibility to get this thing out for good!
