Hi again, just re-read my comment, my palpitations were benign, so exhausted didn't spot typo! Other thing I forgot to mention was lack of concentration and forgetfulness.... forgetting appointments etc (even though written down in three different places), best one was forgot the time and didn't get home in time for my daughter coming in from school - arrived home 15 mins later! Fortunately, she was sensible and went to a neighbor's house but was in a complete panic - I have never done this before!

Hello all... well, where do I start? I have stumbled on this website purely by accident (is this a UK or US site?). Anyway, as a family planning trained nurse, I thought I knew everything about Mirena. I had one in between my first and second child (big gap!) as the oral contraception was no longer suitable. Not many side effects then, ws quite happy with it. Baby no 2 came along, so thought I would just get a Mirena back in (put in Dec 2008, so just over a year). More spotting this time, but less cramping following insertion - was good to go. Had building work done at house last year, was very stressful. I was very low, tearful and generally not coping and had to take time off work (put down to stress). I have been thinking about hormones and their role (I am 44 and watching too much Oprah!).... got to thinking about this Mirena thing inside me after chatting to a patient who was having the same symptoms (she is the same age as me). After reading several of your comments, I can totally relate to you all. My symptoms are: heart palpitations (awful at the end of last year, been investigated, was SVT and non benign, but felt very real), cravings for sweet things, low mood, exhaustion, skin reaction (itchy eyes and shins), and ANGER (the worst thing! I am like something possessed!). My doctor is not taking me seriously, my family is finished, I want to get this thing out! How do I get my husband to agree to a vasectomy?

I have taken Wellbutrin for the past 3 weeks due to mild depression. I in the beginning I experienced headaches, anxiety attacks and palpitations. After experiencing these side effects, I cut my dosage from 150mg per day to 75 mg. This weekend, I noticed bald spots in my scalp. My hair has always been thin but even more so now. I'm not sure if the Wellbutrin has anything to do with it, but it is the only major change in my life. I definitely feel better while taking the Wellbutrin and also notice the difference when I'm not taking it. I hope this medicine is not taking my hair out. Has anyone experienced this?

reI had been having trouble sleeping recently, and decided to buy a bottle of Valerian capsules to give it a try, since I wanted something all-natural to help me fall asleep. I also tend to be stressed and anxious often, so it seemed like a great alternative to other medications. The dosage on the bottle said it could be taken as a supplement 2 pills 2-4 times a day with meals or water. I took 2 pills about twice a day. The effects were wonderful at first. I would take 2 pills right before bed and I would get very drowsy and fall asleep quickly. Id also wake up with no feelings of grogginess or any headache. However, as stated by others, I believe the Valerian began to build up in my system; I had been taking it for about three weeks now when I began experiencing palpitations and an irregular heartbeat, headaches and even mild stomach pain. I also experienced feelings of dizziness, disorientation, restlessness, and excitability. All in all the side effects made me extremely uncomfortable, and would recommend this supplement to be used sparingly when absolutely needed, but never in continued usage.

hi. i had mirena put in feb 08. around June i started having flu like symptoms and stomach issues. doctors couldn't figure that out so i learned to deal with it. no biggie. may 09 i started having palpitations and tightness in my chest. doc #1 said it was a panic attack.(no) doc #2 thought i pulled a muscle (nope) july went to the er. test were ran all negative. pain and palpitations still come and go. until 4 days ago, just walking around i became short of breath, had sharp pain, and bad palpitations that wouldn't go away with rest. the next day i had to go to the er again because my blood pressure went up so high. been at home in bed for 3 days now. still tight chest. still palpitations off and on. i see a cardiologist tomorrow to make sure there is nothing seriously wrong. but reading this, things are making a bit more sense. i have also asked my gyn 2x's and they state that mirena will NOT cause any type of chest issues because of the type of hormones in it. if cardiologist finds nothing along with everyone else, IT'S COMING OUT! i'm so tired of feeling sick!
thanks everyone for your comments. i now know it's not just me!

I got Mirena March 3rd, 2009 - The first 3 weeks I had the bleeding and small clots along with HORRIBLE cramping that about took me into the ER on 3 different occasions. After that it seemed a little better, well, until recently that is. I have been experiencing dizziness, headaches, lightheadedness and fainting spell. These were the unexplained symptoms. Next I noticed horrible tingling in my arms and hands and sometimes even legs and feet. Not just a little tingling, I mean a lot, like the kind that wont let you lay down at night or sleep. I have been very nauseated and often feel like I'm about to get sick but nothing comes out. It's amassing that all of my symptoms started about 4 months ago, around the time Mirena was inserted and have just been escalating. I have not had a period since the initial bleeding occurred, but i have had the brownish discharge that others have mentioned as well about once a month. Also heard palpitations and chest pain has been occurring more often. I blame this on my asthma, which has got worse over the last 4 months also along with an increase use of my inhaler. Can this be related? My neck is always tense and I feel my joints are also becoming more inflamed. My vision is sometimes blurred and at my last eye exam last week my doctor had noted a "drastic" vision change and increased my lens strength within the last 6 months. The last symptom I can think about is how tired I have been. I have a very active 16 month old and it's exhausting trying to keep up with him and finishing nursing school full time. My mom did mention today how "moody" I have became over the last few months, maybe its stress related? Maybe it's all Mirena related? I would like to know more...wouldn't you?

I'm 42, I had the Mirena coil fitted February 2008, due to 'disfunctional bleeding.' Although it has stopped the constant bleeding, I suffer from terrible joint pain, which I never did before, especially my hips, knees and ankles. Weight gain, which in turn is making me miserable, lots of vaginal infections, itchy and tender breasts, along with palpitations.....I think I'd rather live with the 'disfunctional bleeding!'

Every morning after I take my Lisinopril, I start having chest palpitation and my pulse is very irregular and when I take my BP it is usually high because my pulse is so low. It lasts until noon and then I'm fine after lunch. When I'm having these palpitations I get so anxious that I'm having a MI. I'm going to make an appointment to see my PCM. This has been going on for almost a month. I was started on Lisinopril in Sept of 2007. Denial is not just a river in Egypt.

Update on my experience with Lisinopril.
After 3 ER visits & 2 hospital stays the palpitations quit when the HCTZ (diuretic) was removed. Adjustment of dosage got the B/P readings down to acceptable levels but some side effects remain after 2 weeks. Dry-eye syndrome and over-the-counter drops do not help. I'm up most of the night-time.
However in the daytime after I exercise I feel sleepy and can sleep for a couple hours time.
Wondering if this side effect will go away or what. Anyone with the experience ?

I think it is interesting the symptoms that you mention here. I have been on birth control pills since the age of 19. I am now 28. Over the past year I have had similar symptoms. I have been on so many different BCP's that is is hard to keep count. They don't seem to work the way they claim to. The last BCP I was on was orthotryciclen. While taking these I began to experience severe heart palpitations. So bad that they would wake me up at night. Because I wasn't sure if it was an anxiety attack or just being in my head I decided to ignore it. Four months passed by and it seemed to get increasingly worse. I had enough and decided to go to my PCP. She wasn't really much help either. Although I was tested for Mitral Valve Prolapse, which I was told affects younger women my age. There was nothing found. What I thought was interesting is I really felt that it was the birth control pills, but I couldn't find it as a side affect on the information that was provided in the box. The tech who was doing my echocardiogram began to tell me she also experienced the same feelings and found out it was her BCP. Once she confirmed what I thought was right, decided to stop taking them. After three months the symptoms began to disappear. I figured it was just the particular brand. I began to take loestrin 24. I started to feel the same symptoms again, just not as severe. I would feel my heart beat when I would like down in my back and my stomach. My heart rate would reach 90 to 100 sometimes. I know this is not normal. When I visited my gyno yesterday she told me it was impossible that it was a result of the BCP. Maybe it was just anxiety and or perhaps I should get checked out by a cardiologist. That is serious stuff when you are talking to a young person about getting there heart check out. I think if there are any other women out there who are experiencing any similar symptoms should speak up. So these doctors won't keep telling us it is all in our heads and help to take care of this problem.

I had palpations--finally a surge in b/p to + 200 over +100
was in the ER twice & one ER doctor mentioned it could be the HCTZ
I have been OFF the HCTZ ---look up the side effects for that and see it it relates to your problem if you have one.
I have 20 mg of lisinopril now up from 12.5 before.
4 days and everything is swell. No palpatations--back on exercise routine.
Good Luck everyone

I lost 30 pounds on Weight Watchers in 2005 - lost it in 6 weeks (on the proper diet) because of my insanely fast metabolism. Shortly after that, I was put on 25 mg of Toprol XL for PACs/PVCs. Upped that to 50 mg after I started getting migraines. Gained 55 pounds in the process, though I tore a hamstring in a couple of places and put a lot of the weight loss up to months of inactivity.

Then I started back on WW and tried to lose. Did everything just right--nothing. Added exercise and adjusted my points. Still nothing. Finally googled "toprol metabolism" and found tons of people complaining of the same types of problems.

I finally got down to 12.5 mg of Toprol and my body has adjusted to it, and in the last 2 weeks I've dropped 10 pounds. I'm debating going off it altogether, since there's nothing wrong with my blood pressure, and since lowering it clearly helps.

Note to anyone who tries this - every time I lower the dose I tend to gain a little weight (it's mostly water weight--I bloat up when I lower it for some reason) while my body adjusts, but it always comes off. So if you lower your dose (with doctor's permission, of course), don't be disheartened if you gain at first. You'll get there.

I started on 40mg of simvistatin 3 and a half months ago, after being on them for a week i started to get bad headaches and felt really fatigued,so when i told my gp she said its just a matter of your body getting used to them,so i continued taking the pills i seemed ok for a while but 5 weeks ago i started with palpitations, then i got indigestion, and general discomfort in my chest, weakness in my arms and legs, headaches and the fatigue came back worse than ever,i haven't been back to see the doctor,i stopped the pills yesterday, the indigestion has gone already,i want to lose about a stone and try to lower my cholesterol myself ,but how can you exercise when you feel so weak and tired,my cholesterol level is 5 but because i suffer high blood pressure the doc said it needs to be 4.3,does anyone else suffer from the same and is on this medication?

I'm a 30 yr old healthy male. I went to the ER, and then the Dr., about 4 weeks ago after waking up with intense pain in the veins of my right arm and having pounding palps. I had just been told some extremely stressful news the night before, so I was pretty sure this was blood pressure & stress related. ... EKG showed Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome, so that's what the Dr's assumed was the problem. I never knew what it was called, but I've had my heart race due to WPW many times since I was a young child .. this did not seem to be related. This was just pounding.

The cardiologist put me on 50mg of Toprol XL daily to control the WPW - even though that wasn't acting up. I left confused. Pharmacy issued generic Metoprolol Succinate mfg. by Sandoz.

I didn't want to be on meds, so I didn't take it for the first few days, hoping that I would return to normal. After all, I just woke up with this all of the sudden.. I had been fine the day before. Palps continued, though, so eventually I relented and started taking the meds.

The first two or three weeks were filled with ups and downs. Exhaustion, palpitations and anxiety would come and go.

This past weekend things got really bad. I began having anxiety attacks -- I think that's what it was, I'd never had one before -- and my vision was totally screwed up. I couldn't focus on anything and was sensitive to some lighting. Black text on a bright white screen (lcd monitor) was especially hard to read. I was completely in a dazed & confused state. Loud noises and crowds were bothering me... which was awful, considering it was my best friend's wedding. Also had headaches, lightheadedness & loss of appetite. These side effects came and went on Friday & Saturday and were pretty constant on Sunday & Monday.

I decided to quit Toprol cold-turkey on Sunday. I have been 2 days without. I have used L-Theamine to reduce stress and keep my blood pressure steady. It seems to be working. I also began taking CoQ10 today after reading some good things about it here.

My vision & mental focus is beginning to improve after 3 days of disabilitating problems. Anxiety has also improved. I even attempted to "get back to normal" at work today, but had to leave after only an hour of strenuous exercise in the heat. Vision problems returned, anxiety set in. It's like riding a really freaking scary roller coaster, except with a legitimate fear that this thing might kill you.

I will update this as time goes by, to let you all know how things worked out for me. I'm really hoping to be mostly back to normal in another day or two, since I haven't been on for very long. Hopefully this will be of help to someone in the future. Damn, I Wish I had never gotten on this stuff.

I had the Mirena coil removed a week and a half ago and let me tell you I have had the worst week ever!!
My reasons for getting it removed were the same as most people, very bad mood swings, always snapping at my boyfriend, depression, always bleeding, severe stomach cramps all the time, anxiety, hair loss, low libido and the list goes on... I never had any of this before the mirena.. I never realised the mirena could of been the cause until I decided to google it one day and found thousands of women had the same symptoms, everything then made sense...

I made the appointment to get it removed and immediately started taking Vit B6, Primrose oil and I have ordered 5HTP on the internet cos I cant find it anywhere... day 4 I started getting very bad anxiety and horrible suicidal thoughts, I have always been a happy person and couldnt understand what was happening to me... the whole week at work was a blur and each day was a struggle to get through.. I was continuously crying and I had these horrible thoughts in my mind that wouldnt go away!! it has been a nightmare.. its like they are stuck in my mind and I cant think of anything else but these horrible thoughts! (The weird thing is I had the same thoughts when I had the mirena inserted 2.5 years ago but they werent as bad as now and they eventually went away) I saw my doctor on Thursday morning and explained these problems and she prescribed me valium tablets to take away the anxiety... later that afternoon I had a anxiety attack and landed going back to the doctor because of these horrible suicidal thoughts in my mind... My doctor reffered me to a phyciatrist which I saw yesterday, I have never had to see anyone like this before so it was very scary for me... the shrink I saw said that there was no ways the mirena could be doing this to me.... she gave me more valium for my anxiety and now I have to see a special therapist once a week until these thoughts are cleared from my mind!
I find it very strange that all this started 4 days after my mirena was removed! I know this is all happening because of the mirena, the only thing that is keeping me going is reading everyones posts and knowing that this will go way once my hormones settle, I know im not going crazy even though it feels like I am!!
Every doctor I have spoken to will not agree that the mirena could cause any of these side effects! It makes me so mad that so many women are going through this and the doctors think the Mirena is the best thing since slice bread! How can they have no idea!!??
If anyone is thinking of getting the mirena.. DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS IS MY 8TH DAY ON LAMICTAL 25MG AND I WOKE UP SO DIZZY THAT I ALMOST FELL OVER. I HAVE BEEN THIS WAY ALL DAY IT LIKE COMES AND GOES FAST. IM DIZZY NOW..
I HAVE NOTICED MUSCLE ACHES BUT I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS THE ATENONOL 25MG I TAKE FOR PALPITATIONS BECAUSE IT LOWERS YOUR POTASSIUM. IM THINKING THE LAMICTAL DOES THE SAME LOWERS YOUR POTASSIUM WHICH CAUSES THE MUSCLE PAIN AND ETC.. SO I BEGAN EATING BANANAS AND SEE HOW THAT GOES. MY DOC SAID THAT IF YOU TAKE A ANTIDEPRESSANT AND YOU ARE BI POLAR YOU CAN HAVE SERIOUS REACTIONS TO THE MEDS. SHE TOLD ME TO "NOT" TAKE A ANTIDEPRESSANT.
I WAS ON THIS MEDICINE BEFORE AND WAS UNSURE ABOUT A SIDE EFFECT OF ULCERS IN MY MOUTH AND STOPPED IT. I REALLY WANTED TO CONTINUE BECAUSE IT MADE ME FEEL GREAT(only got to 50mg then)
I HAVE ACTUALLY FELT PRETTY GOOD MORE GOOD DAYS THAN BAD EXCEPT YESTERDAY AND TODAY I HAVE BEEN REALLY TIRED ALONG WITH THE OTHER.
MY QUESTION IS WILL THESE SIDE EFFECTS GO AWAY???? AND I DON'T WANT TO REALLY EAT MUCH.
I REALLY LIKE THAT I AM NOT MOODY ANYMORE LIKE I WAS AND I GOT MY SEX DRIVE BACK AND I DON'T WANT TO GO OFF IF I DON'T HAVE TOO.. HOW LONG DO THE SIDE EFFECTS LAST??
AND IS IT WORTH STICKING IT OUT?

Hello! I had the Mirena inserted in April 2007, 8 weeks after giving birth to my third child. I was wanting to be on some kind of birth control, until we were sure about doing something permanent. Instantly, after getting this inserted I started experiencing weight gain, severe cramping and bleeding. I had always had heavy periods, except when I had been on the pill. My periods were heavier on the Mirena then anything else. I would spot or have my period at least 3 weeks out of the month. Also, I would have severe pain in my back and around my kidneys. I would get constant yeast and vaginal infections with this as well. I had never had a problem with this prior. I would tell my OBGYN and they would just say this is a normal side effect with this device. I was sent in to have an ultrasound done to determine the placement of the Mirena. The ultrasound tech and her supervisor questioned the placement of the device, but my OBGYN thought that the placement was fine. I would be miserable with pain and had no sex drive at all. This was never a problem for me before. My husband said that this was great birth control, because it made women never want to have sex. I think that he was right. Also, I noticed that I experienced mood swings with my kids, severe headaches, palpatations and chest pains. I just couldn't wait to get this birth control out. My husband got a vasectomy in September 2007 and left for Iraq the first of December 2007. My symptoms kept getting worse, so I decided to get this device taken out. I had it removed on Janurary 24th, 2008. I discussed my weight gain with my OBGYN. She said that I was getting older and it was my metabolism causing me to gain the weight. Weird that I lost 15 pounds after giving bith to my 3rd child, until I had the Mirena put in. Then, I gained 33 pounds in that amount of time. More then I ever gained during any of my pregnancies. Since, I have I had the Mirena removed I have lost 13 pounds and been able to go down 2 jean sizes. I have no headaches, no cramping, no pains and my chest pain disappeared. Also, I had been breaking out with acne and never had this problem before. Now, my face is clear and no problems with acne. Of course, now that my husband is gone my sex drive is back after having this removed. I know that all the OBGYNs love this Mirena for birth control and say that it doesn't have these side effects, but read the boards. Just because the drug reps that are selling this, think it is wonderful doesn't mean that it is great. What else do you expect them to say? The OBGYN group I see has 6 doctors and each one has told me that they have had 4-6 women with the same problems. Most of the women have had this removed, after all the complications. That is just with one group. I think the FDA needs to investigate the "TRUE" side effects with Mirena. I question how safe this product really is. It seems that there are numerous complants about this device, but nobody seems to take it seriously. Best of luck to everyone else. I know that I am starting to feel more like my old self after getting the Mirena removed. I know that it was not the birth control for me.

just started taking Adderall, though i am not prescribed. I went to my doctor and asked for it but she said no. I explained that I am often overwhelmed at work, I am a case manager and keeping on task with all of the work is hard. My doctor said when she was in med school, med students used to take it for that purpose. So anyway i bought 5 pills from a coworker. I seem to have super human energy, get all types of work done and stay focused all day. On the down side, in 5 days I have lost 3lbs., I want to lose weight, but not that fast. I have what I consider to be Adderall hangovers the next day, where I am extremely tired. I also have noticed severe headaches, every day that I have taken it, I crash by the end of the day at work and cant wait to get home, because I am so tired. My neck aches, and I had to change to a firmer chair at work, because all of a sudden my back is killing me, I also get insomnia and have to counteract the Aderall with Tylenol pm just to get to sleep. These side effects freak me out, and I don't know if I want to again ask my doctor for a script, but I get so much done at work, and I am heading back for grad school, I just don't know what to do? oh yeah, the pills that I bought were Adderall XR 30 mg.

I had a UTI and was given Cipro. I wake up shaking and having chest pain. My elbows hurt and my toes. I had diarrhea and stomach cramps as well as leg cramps. I am almost feeling like I have a panic disorder now, because I am so nervous about nothing. I wake up every night with either the palpitations in my heart. I thought I was having a mitral valve prolapse which I had almost twenty years ago. Now I have developed a spot in my eye like spider webs which now it has turned into a flash of light on the side of my right eye. I believe all this is from the Cipro. I was fine before it.

I was prescribed the medicine sulfameth/trimethoprim for a UTI and 1 hour after taking it, I began to itch and noticed red bruises appearing on my arm and back. I also had palpatations. My lips and face began to swell really bad with blisters on my lips and around them. My lips were burning and itching very badly.I also had sores in mouth. I had really bad abdominal pain and difficult breathing.. The next day, I had even more swelling on lips and face and more bruises, vaganal irratations, rashes, severe headache, itching all over body, tongue swelling, throat irratations, bruising continuing all over. I couldn't sleep and was very tired. It has been a week and I am still having some itching, my lips are peeling and still feel very tight as well as bumps on lips and around. The itching and burning on my lips lasted about 5 days as well as most other symptoms. with some lasting longer and all this with taking just 1 pill. After taking this I read so much on this drug and had I read it first, I would have never taken it. I had a reaction to SMZ once and told my doctor that I was allergic to sulfur type drugs and the doctor and pharmacy overlooked it and I was given this anyway. This reaction was much worse than the first. I read so many comments that really helped me and thought maybe I could help someone else. This site is very good.

Hi, I was switced from Atenolol to Toprol-XL 50 mg about 1 year ago for palpatations and it seemed to work very little papations now. However, I am currently experiencing right upper quadrant pain and my triglycerides are over 500. I am told I it is drug induced fatty liver disease? I am slowly weaning myself off this medication because you can not just quit per/pharmacist. I also have gained weight which I can not lose, hair thinning, hard to concentrate, elevated triglycerides, calf pain after walking or excercising, fluid retention, feet swelling etc..... for those of you who are on it I would suggest having your triglycerides and liver enzymes checked.
