After reading all these women's experience with Yasmin, I am super confused and worried. I just started on my Yasmin packet almost 3 weeks ago. Before that I was on Brevicon for about 2 months before being switched to Yasmin. My concern for switching was the amount of irregular bleeding on Brevicon (I had a period every other week on Brevicon) and since I also have PCOS, my doctor recommended switching to Yasmin.

But in the short 3 weeks I have noticed some crazy side effects and I wonder if it is the pill. Side effects for me have been:
1. Dryness - I cannot seem to stay hydrated. My skin, eyes and throat are always dry, not to mention the intimacies in the bedroom. Which I've never had issues with before.
2. Fatigue - I am constantly tired. No matter how much rest I get, I'm constantly exhausted.
3. Headaches - I thought initially it was because I'm trying to ween myself off of caffeine, but even when I do get my caffeine fix, I still have them.
4. Back pain - much like when I have my period, but it's happening well over a week before my period.
5. Cramping - again like the back pain. I have never had such severe cramping this many days before my period.

Those are the severe side effects I am experiencing but in addition to heart palpitations, mood swings and trouble sleeping also happen every so often. I feel like I'm drinking red bull, but I have not.

I am not sure what pill to request, I've tried Brevicon and now Yasmin, but I'm starting to think dealing with irregular periods (every 5-8 weeks) and the usual period pangs is better than dealing with these symptoms every month. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am 47 year old female with 5 days of headache and high diastolic bp. Doctor prescribed lisinopril. It made me want to sit for hours without moving. I was sleepy but could not sleep, cloudy thinking, anxious, thought I was going to die, had pangs all over my body and in extremities, racing heart with difficulty catching breath, etc to all the above symptoms. I stopped it after two weeks. I had bronchitis for four weeks. Then I developed dizziness/nausea and burning in the hands and feet. After researching that, I took a B12 and that tingling symptom cleared in a few hours. I don't know if the drug changes the metabolism in your system. I still am fatigued, occasionally have racing heart, and problems with sleep. Don't know how long it may linger in the system. Can't seem to find an answer. It has been 2 months since I took it and 6 weeks since being off it. By the way, my BP is now typically 117/82 with loss of 15 pounds. I prefer to treat naturally. Look up Taurine, CoQ10 and Hawthorne and see which may be best for you.

Wow ladies!! First off, thank you, all of you, for taking the time to share your stories.

I had my Mirena inserted mid March 2008. It is April 3rd today, and so far I'm not a fan.

Insertion was easy. I barely felt anything. Minor cramping afterwards, some spotting. The worst part was the black gritty sand like discharge. (previous poster compared it to coffee grounds) Every time I sat down or stood up I could feel the grit rubbing inside me. It was the most AWFUL feeling in the world.

I have been spotting every single day since insertion. I did have a full period (started a few days before Easter) and it lasted about a week and a half. It was moderate to heavy. I did have more than usual cramping for me. And with every cramp I felt a sharp stab in my uterus. I imagined it was my uterus pressing down on the IUD. It was very uncomfortable. Now my "period" is over and I am still spotting! Its strange though. My discharge is clear, but with streaks of purpleish/brown blood. Its not typical spotting. But i've ruined one too many pairs of good underwear so its starting to get on my nerves!!!! I thought this was supposed to STOP bleeding. I've bleed every day in some shape or form.

My one month checkup is on the 10th. I am going to express my concerns with my doctor, but I know she'll blow me off like everyone else. I am getting a lot of pressure from my husband to keep it, despite the side effects. We already have 4 children, and dont want any more for a few more years.

Other side effects I am experiencing that I can only assume are from the Mirena (they might not be, but I cant explain them any other way):

- I feel stupid! Im spacey, i cant think straight. Very forgetful. Simple jokes go over my head.
- my vision is wacky. I feel like im staring through a haze. I have a hard time focusing on objects or fine print. I have never had a vision problem before!
- i feel weak and woozy occasionally.
- extra crampy. and often feel pings and pangs in my uterus.
- increased thirst
- slight paranoia. I actually feel like all my friends are mad at me, when i know they arent.
- I sweat at night.
- moody.
- my nails are all dry and splitting. I normally have very healthy nails
- a general feeling of laziness. It takes a ton of motivation to get up sometimes. I have 4 kids and I work full time...I'm not a lazy person! I cant be! So this feeling is very frustrating!
- I'd rather sleep than have sex. which for me is abnormal. I am more of a hornball than my husband usually. hahaha

wow this list is longer than I thought!!

I'm going to give this thing more time. But so far I am not a fan. I know it works for some women....but these things were not in the little pamphlet they pass out! I guess if they were no one would get this thing!

Thanks for listening!

I am going on day 4 of stopping my Effexor cold turkey. I was on 300 mg and taking 20 mg of Pexeva. I am stopping cold turkey after being on this medication for three years. The withdrawals are terrible, I don't know why any doctor in their right mind would ever prescribe this medication for anyone. I have those wonderful brain zaps every ten seconds, the only thing that momentarily makes me sane is food, as if the 30 pounds this medication has gained me aren't enough, stopping it is going to pack on another 30. I am a bundle of anger and rage directed at anyone within distance. I am at the toilet every night waiting and praying that I can just throw up. When I finally can fall asleep I am jolted awake in a puddle of sweat having just had yet another nightmare. And when I say nightmare, I mean the kind that have me screaming out loud in terror waking my husband. Minor daily tasks are ignored due to the fact that putting one foot in front of the other is too much to handle. I can't stand this feeling and only pray for the day that it will stop.

I am a very athletic and active 37 yo male. I suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery and I needed to get cardial clearance before my procedure could go ahead. I have really no medical history other than Mitrovalve Prolapse. The doctor diagnosed me with hbp and put me on 10mg of Lisinopril the first week of January 07. all was ok until after my surgery. I started experiencing the side effects in the last 2 1/2 weeks. Here is a list of symptoms Ive experienced in mostly random, erratic times.

-Mild Cough(thankfully)
-Loss of motivation
-Heart beating out of chest with elevated blood pressure(huh?)
-Pangs of anxiety and mild panic
-Hot flashes (like hearing shocking news)
-Weak in the knees (after flash)
-Mild headache (like caffeine headache)
-Shaky hands
-Irritability
-Cold and hot sensations in hands and feet
-Slightly cloudy vision and sore eyes
-Cramps in calves and forearms
-Random muscle ticks
-Sore neck (could be from my arm sling)

I went to the ER 3 days ago after an episode and got an ekg and it looked fine. The doc thought maybe I was withdrawing from alcohol from the way I was fidgeting. I was a mess. I felt like crap the rest of the day. I called my cardiologist and he (his nurse) suggested Atenolol in addition to my Lisinopryl. I cannot wrap my mind around that. Are they really trying to poison us? Since then I have been eating better and drinking plenty of liquids but I still get the pangs, just not as bad so far. It is affecting my daily life and I dont want it to affect my healing. After reading thru endless posts on this site I feel angry and truly feel I should find an alternative. Thank you all for posting!
