I had the Mirena inserted over a year ago. When my ob inserted it, he cut my cervix. I suppose that should have been my first warning that this was going to be a nightmare. I have since been miserable. I have had headaches, nausea, dizziness, weight gain, swelling so bad I cant ever wear my wedding rings. I bled for the first six weeks and haven't had a period since, this seems unnatural to me. My weight fluctuates so badly i have to keep three different pant sizes in my closet-due to water retention. one day i'm a size 10 the next a 14. I have gained 15 permanent pounds. And my eating habits haven't changed a bit. I weigh more right now than i did the day i delivered my THIRD child. I am also on antidepressants, which started 8 weeks after the mirena. I am having it removed tomorrow. my husband had a vasectomy so i wouldn't have to deal with this anymore. If you are looking before insertion. . . . .RUN. . . RUN SCREAMING. The mirena is an awful form of birth control. I wish I had never had it inserted.

I had Mirena installed :) in March of 08 and did a lot of research prior. I was very nervous because there was a lot of bad feedback on the internet about it but didn't have any other options for BC because I had high blood pressure and was told that was from the pill. So I survived the unbearable pain of inserting it - FYI you need more than Advil and everything was fine. I noticed for the last year I am constantly moody, depressed and anxious but thought that was the changes in my life that had occurred. It wasn't until 2 weeks ago - I suffered from severe migraines, neck pain, pins and needle numbness and cloudiness in my thoughts that I started to question what was wrong with me. I have also grown 2 pant sizes since the insertion but again didn't put things together until I went to the doctor for my 'headaches' and he passed them off as migraines which I never had before. Oh and my blood pressure is still high - and I take a med for that to lower it. I have been researching and researching what could be wrong- MS, pregnancy, lime and lupus and the only thing that fits like a glove is the Mirena. I just don't get why it took so long to have side effects but think its time to take it out. Any feedback on others side effects is much appreciated because I don't know what to do but can't live like this. And I don't know what other options for BC are out there now...

The only thing I felt was nausea for the first month.
If I missed a pill I will have spotting and cramps.
I have put on 2 or 3 lbs. but ladies stop blaming
the pill, you have to learn to control your appetite and diet.
If you research it the actual pill doesn't make you fat duh!
I like Femcon Fe and I'll continue to use it!

I have had Mirena in since May 2009. Everything was fine until the last month and a half. I have had major weight gain. It was all of a sudden too. I haven't been eating any different and I am still just as active as I was before but for some reason I have gone up two pant sizes. I am getting it taken out next week and I am just going back on the pill.
