I am so relieved to has found this page. I had no idea how many people on the NuvaRing were having the problems I've been having. I started using the NuvaRing a few years ago soon after starting to have sex. I wasn't very good at remembering my pill everyday, so I thought it would be a good option. I was so happy in the beginning because I could depend on it.

However, the first major thing that happened a few months later was IBS symptoms, which has put a big damper on my life since. I never know what food item will cause me to cramp and bloat next. It changes every day. I have always doubted this symptom attributed to Nuva until now. I thought my metabolism was changing because I was entering the workforce and exposing myself to new levels of stress.

Next, I never expected that it would diminish my sex drive. I have to convince myself that I'm in the mood, feeling responsible for maintaining a healthy sex life with my husband. That sounds so horrible, and it is. I'm almost never in the mood, not even to masturbate, and I have to keep a calendar to keep track of the last time I pleased my husband. I have not had a real orgasm since before starting the nuva.

It doesn't help to not only be not in the mood, but also when I do have sex, it's uncomfortable, burning, and very painful urinating afterwards. On many occasions, the ring gets pulled out a little during sex, causing a moment of uncomfortable prodding plastic for both of us, and I need to stop long enough to take it out and put it somewhere so I remember to put it back in again. Sex is more comfortable without it after that, but the irritation is still there. It takes a few days to heal before having sex again.

The last straw is more recent. I began to get discharge - a lot - starting the second week in the cycle. It wasn't a yeast infection, as I had a physical and pap at this time and the doctor would have picked it up. There was some itching, but mostly, I've had to wear panty liners 3 out of 4 weeks, including my menstrual cycle. This makes me feel less appealing, and much less interested in having spontaneous sex because I have to clean up first.

It just sucks that this has effected me for almost my whole relationship with my husband. Our dates, our honeymoon, our first anniversary vacation last month. All this time, and I find that the only prescription drug I'm on is what has caused me so much stress, sexual tension, and digestive ailment. One can only imagine what all these other happy commercialized medicines have in store for us, and in multiple amounts!

I'm grateful to have found this site. My doctor put me on the ring because I was having such intense premenstrual headaches on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. The depression has been almost crippling since being on the ring. The first month was fine. The second month was bad. The third was so horrible I thought I was going to leave my husband because I felt so hopeless and alone. I took my ring out on Sunday. I don't think I'll be putting a new one in next Sunday. Doesn't seem worth it. The depression isn't even premenstrual anymore; I have it during my period too. Oh, and the periods are SO heavy. The first three days, I'm changing my tampon every couple of hours and have to wear back-up panty liners. And, I got a migraine this month right before my period.

Question to the others: Does anyone have neck pain? I had it on Mother's Day so bad and couldn't figure out what I'd done to injure it. Looking back at my calendar, I was premenstrual then. Now, I have the exact same neck pain, and I'm menstruating. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the ring.

I have had mine since oct 06, I immediately started to have unusual discharge, so much that I have to wear panty liners or a lite tampon, It's extremely embarrassing to have to go through with it everyday, especially in the summer, when i wanna wear a bathing suit. I also hate to have sex, it hurts so much, I can barely take it. I have been oody and miserable, around the time I do get my period I have very tender breasts. My period is lite and only lasts a few days, so no complaint there. I have enlarged cysts now, and they also contribute to my pain during sex. I have no sex drive whatsoever. Could care less. And I use to have sex on a regular basis.

For the past year I have been struggling with acne, I have never had pimples in my life, so now having the right side of my face full of acne and nothing, nothing will treat it. I didn't have much weight gain at all. Im back to my regular size, but I do workout now, and haven't lost anything either.

I thought for the past 3 years I've been crazy, Im depressed, but nothing to be depressed about, I dont have a stressful job, Im healthy, taken care of. But I can cry over nothing, literally, I cry everyday, and lately its getting worse, I thought I was pregnant, because I felt so emotional, I was feeling flutters in my stomach. Things that I felt the first itme.

I don't have insurance, and make to much to get medicare. I really want to get it taken out. This has affected my life so much, that its ruining my relationship with my boyfriend.

I cant believe how many others are having same symptoms, I should have looked into this a long long time ago. Hopefully I can have planned parenthood take it out.

Getting my Mirena removed on Monday (May 11) after 4.5 years. Like others, I made excuses of my side effects. . . nausea (that would last for DAYS), lower back pain, weight gain (or I should say the inability to lose weight)...I was 130 when I had it put in and it is a CONSTANT struggle to keep my weight at 145 (and I am very active and exercise 4x a week)....also, I am always spotting. I live with panty liners and may, if I am lucky have a 4-5 stretch with no spotting. The anxiety...omigawd...too afraid to leave my house on some days. I have never had depression/anxiety issues before. Lastly, my sex drive is non-existent and I have always had a high libido.
I am so glad I found this site b/c I have felt like i am going crazy! As someone else said, "I am taking this DAMN MONSTER out of me".....

Hello everyone: Just let me say that i feel relieved to know that i am not the only one going through hell with the Mirena. When i first heard about this birth control I thought it was too good to be true, and after talking the side effects over with my dr I was assured that this was the right choice for me. I have two beautiful daughter 3 and 1, I do want a third child but not until i finish my Masters. So i decided to have the Mirena put in after the birth of my second baby, she was born in Aug07 and i had the Mirena inserted in Oct07. Keep in mind that i had already lost all my baby weight by this time. Well a couple of months later i had already gained 15pounds, i exercise, eat healthy and those 15lbs did not budge. I began getting these awful headaches and by back feels like i am getting an epidural all over again. Acne is a major issue, i thought that maybe it was stressed related, i have never had a issue with my skin until now, i recently discovered dry patches on my arms. I have a regular period every month, but I have a awful discharge with a horrible odor. I have to wear panty liners every day. I feel dizzy all the time and i have to pump my self up just to clean my house. This is not my idea of living a healthy life. I think a lot more research should have been conducted before this product was put on the market, or maybe we are the research? Depression and anxiety attacks are major for me, i don't sleep and when i do i wake up having an anxiety attack. Memory loss is bad i can be in mid sentence and completely forget what we are talking about, that scared me to the point to where I thought i was going crazy!!! I went ot my doctor and told him everything that was going on and he just put me on an anxiety med and did blood work to make sure my thyroid was functioning properly. All test came beck ok!! So I need an explanation of what in the hell is going on. I had none of these issues before i had mirena, but now i feel like I am someone else. I am calling my doctor on Tuesday to schedule an appt to have this evil device taken out of me. My health is far more important!! And I would rather use condoms and prayer as my contraceptive!!! Good luck to all you ladies and i pray you all make the right decision concerning your health~!~

I've had the Mirena inserted Oct 2007, it has been a year and a couple of months now and this has not been a good experience at all. I received the Mirena due to having very heavy periods associated with severe cramping (not for a form of birth control). My regular periods before this insertion would only last 7 days and all would be gone. I got this to reduce cramping and get lighter better periods but ended up receiving much worse! Now, I have been having much more cramping, mood swings, acne out of control (face now feels like sandpaper) never had acne-skin problems in my life, and the bleeding has never stopped! It has gotten lighter but it has been a year and some months and no stopping! Constantly buying panty liners...tampons etc. My doctor advised me to take another medication to help control my bleeding which was Premerin and to no end reading up on that medication just floored me! All the warnings about blood clotting, heart problems, cancer OMG! I will be having this removed very soon. I rather just deal with the 7 day pain and heavy bleeding then to go through all of this...

I was on the Nuvaring for a little over a year and am now on the Mirena IUC. The first six months of using the Nuvaring were great! I loved it and told all of my friends who were getting married to try it out. Then all of a sudden I started developing chest pain and sometimes my heart would feel like it was going to rip right out of my chest because it was beating so fast. I also had this milky white discharge ALL the time. This was so embarrassing because I would have to wear panty liners everyday and WHAT is sexy about that? I have always had pain with intercourse and then afterwards even using lubricant I felt a burning. I also noticed that while I had the ring in about week 2 or 3 I would start feeling an itching inside and then when I took it out it would clear up and then start all over again. I also would get so nauseous about once a month that I would throw up. I'm so glad that I went off it! My GYN told me that the Nuvaring couldn't be causing the chest pain after no symptoms for 6 months, but then when I removed it and started the IUC I am chest pain, icky discharge, and itching free. I didn't notice any mood changes while on Nuvaring and thank goodness, because as a newly wed I think my husband would have run screaming WHAT DID I GET MYSELF INTO?

I had my Mirena removed in May of 2008. I, too, was thrilled to find a seemingly perfect form of birth control after having 4 children. It has turned out to be a nightmare. I had horrible mood swings, intense anger, cramps, no libido, body aches and the worst part for me, hair loss. I have lost at least 50% of the hair on the top of my head. I went through countless doctor appointments - general physician, o.b., dermatologist. Back and forth with tests for thyroid, diabetes, lupus (biopsy on my scalp and blood tests) all of which have come up negative. I am still seeing the dermo and am on a steroid scalp treatment. The hair loss seems to have stopped but I have yet to see new growth. I am hopeful one day I will find new growth on my scalp. Everyone hang in there - it has to get better, right???

I had Mirena inseted Nov. 2007. Two months later my periods went from 3-7 day periods to icky brown discharge and a period in the middle of the brown discharge. The doctor said it was normal and would go away eventually. Ten months later I had it removed, because guess what? The brown never stopped. As a matter of fact the longer I went the shorter the period got, but the longer the brown lasted and it lasted longer than a regular period ( a week and a half ). My period started back almost immediately, along with sever cramps. Today, three days after having it removed a clot the size of I would say 1/8 of a cup came out (I apologize for the graphic image, I'm getting to a point, I promise). Never having seen clots in that fashion, I almost freaked.
Well I did some reading and apparently the blood from my "disappearing" period was actually pooling in my uterus. Why? Well the only logic deduction form all this would be that the Mirena cause that nice little, unexpected side effect.
This is after it was removed. While I had it in there were lost of side effects I didn't know were being cause by the Mirena until I read this page.

Side effects included: Bloating, Drowsiness (we are talking sleeping from 7-8 hours a day to 10-12 hours a day), Irritability ( I mean I was already on anti-moody pills! but after being put on Mirena, it was like I wasn't even taking my pills), Weight gain, apatite increase, Depression, oily skin and break outs, cramps, headaches, and probably more than I can remember right now.
That was just me. It Was so embarrassing to begin with the brown smelly show, because I could smell myself all the time. I was advised not to use tampons, so keeping up with panty liners for over a week really cause some skin irritation.

Yaz blows. I started taking it on Day 1 of my period. That was 2 weeks ago today and guess what? The pill that is supposed to give you shorter periods still has me bleeding...two weeks of constant bleeding!

I was happy at first because my period was WAY lighter than normal. I was expecting it to go away after 4 days. It did not. I was expecting it to go away by at the very most, day 7 (my periods are normally 7 days). It did not. I expected 'breakthrough' bleeding that would occur at random times in my cycle. What I have gotten, however, is two straight weeks of bleeding. Enough for panty liners changed out a few times a day, not enough for a tampon (this bothers me, I'm a tampon kinda girl!)

Also...about 2-4 hours after ingesting the pill, I get severe nausea for the next 8-10 hours. I'm talking like, the kind of nausea you get when you are pregnant.

My mood has been TERRIBLE. I get VERY angry at the drop of a hat, without provocation. I do not like the rage I have experienced since starting this drug.

I've also developed insomnia since starting Yaz.

I will not be refilling my prescription next month. At $45 a month for a drug that doesn't come in generic, the price, as well as the consequences, is too much. I started Yaz to get rid of my periods, not to have a constant one all month long.

I am just turned 24 years old. I have done the ortho evra patch before and had no problems.. well two weeks ago i started the nuvaring.. i though it would be good as much as my doctor talked good about it and meaning it cost me 50 dollars for 1 ring.... well the first few days went okay i didnt have many symptoms.. well then i started noticing a yellowy discharge and had to wear panty liners and it made it feel like i was always wet there.. well then there ended up a smell there and yet i was washing the normal amount of times a day.. then i ended up with a uti that lasted a week.. as well as it was my birthday weekend and i spent most of it with mood swings.. mainly i was very depressed and spent alot of time crying or angry for no reason at all.. like every little thing got on my nerves.. i ended up feeling very tired and wanting to sleep alot but then would wake up in the middle of the night with cramps... Then ever since i started the ring my acne has been terrible.. i wash my face and use proactive but it didnt work.. well i had a pimple near my lower lip of my face and it hurt really badly well then this morning i woke up and the whole area around it was swollen and my lip was massive.. and right that moment i knew it was the ring.. so i took it out.. and since ive taken it out ive felt happier, still a bit tired but not as much, and the swelling in my face and lip finally went away.. and when i took the ring out i felt nausea and had a headache.. which was a typical ever day thing since i started the ring these werent like typical headaches they were very painful...

i do not recommend anyone to use the nuva ring no matter how good the doctors talk about it.. it causes depression and everything that everyone else puts out there.. i read this website after i had just put it in and i regret not listening to all the other woman on this site...

After 1 day of taking this medication, my body instantly didn't agree with it. I experienced dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, no appetite and the worst diarrhea that i ever experienced. I also kept vomiting and recieved a yeast infection in the process. Finally after 3 days I stopped it under my own discretion. My doctor couldn't believe it was doing of this in 3 days. Every medication isn't for everyone

I have been on Lisinopril fro 6 months. AT 1st 1 felt horrible like most of the symtoms already mentioned (tired, heart palpitations, etc) Most side effects have subsided after about a month or so, EXCEPT this tickle cough that started within days of taking it and is driving me crazy! I have stress incontinence to begin with (pee when I sneeze or cough) but nothing that a thin panty liner worn every day to take of the problem. This cough is constant..all night long, during the day...I am so tired of that feather tickle in my throat..and it goes without saying that my stress incontinence is much worse..that panty liners no longer are large enough to control that problem! Thank goodness I have a doctors appt tomorrow...I refuse to stay on this medication even though it has done great for my BP

I recently got off nuvaring due to finances, after reading these posts I have realized the pains I have had the last four months were probably from the nuvaring, I have had migranes and dizziness and blurriness. But since coming off nuvaring I have suffered a hard pain near my left overy, I also have a rash on my tummy. The pain is all day and gets worse here and there. A cousin told me she had to have her overy removed from a tumor she had because of Nuvaring, yet she has to stay on Nuvaring because she doesn't want to lost the other one.
