I am 25, I had my daughter last October 2008 and had Mirena inserted December 2008 at my 8 week postpartum appt. Everything was fine for about 6 months... It is now September 2009 and since July I have been having EXTREME hair loss (I already have gone through the post preggo hair loss 3 months after giving birth), anxiety feeling in the chest, crazy discharge, erratic periods, no sex drive, moody, ACNE on face chest and back (and I NEVER have acne). So my annual physical was yesterday, so I tell my doc about all these symptoms and he thinks "thyroid" so they pull 4 viles of blood. Then, I get home and I googled "Mirena and hair loss" and here's this site! SO, I called my OBGYN this afternoon and tell her Im losing my hair plus the other symptoms I listed above and she says "Yep its the Mirena, the same thing happened when I had it too and it stopped when I took it out" So she told me to come in and they will remove it and try PARAGUARD - a NO hormone IUD that will bring me back to my "base" and I will start having one period a month (like your body is supposed to in my eyes) and no crazy side effects. I can not tell you how much better I feel that she said right away it was the Mirena. I have really not been feeling myself the past 2 months AND everyone in my household has noticed my hair ALL OVER THE PLACE and has asked me to ask the Doctor... so glad I did.

Was diagnosed with Lupus in 2003 and told by my Rheumatologist to get the Paraguard IUD for birth control. He said anything with hormones is off limits. So, I go to my OBGYN to get the copper iud and go on with my Lupus Life for 6 years which included severe joint pain in my fingers and shoulders, sun sensitivity, constant fevers of 105 degrees and infections that resulted in hospital stays and hair loss so bad that I had to wear wigs for 2 years, greenish discharge from my nipple, depression, severe fatigue and rashes. Well, I figured that if the Mirena was causing these same symptoms in women that maybe the Paraguard was too; so I made an appt to have it removed. Well, when my Gyno pulled it out, he freaked out because to EVERYONES SURPRISE, I WAS MISTAKENLY GIVEN THE MIRENA BACK IN 2003!!!!!!!!! SO, YES, WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE MIRENA ABSOLUTELY CAUSES SEVERE PROBLEMS BECAUSE IT'S BEEN OUT OF ME FOR OVER 6 MONTHS AND I FEEL PERFECT NOW!!!! My doctor's don't even think I have or ever had Lupus in the first place. They will retest me next month but they think I was diagnosed with Lupus too soon (after only one visit) then going right away to my quack Gyno and getting the Mirena instead of the Paraguard was what was causing all the problems. Will see soon what the bloodwork says but that Gyno who put the wrong device in me is going to pay for wrecking my life for the past 6 years!! My medical records even say he was supposed to insert the Paraguard. This experience has caused me to have zero trust in people because no one does their job right anymore. I could go on and on. . . Will take personal contacts if anyone wants to chat or vent about the poison that's inside of them. But, be ready for my response, GET IT TAKEN OUT NOW IF YOU HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS. Remember back in the 80's when women were getting silicone breast implants and getting Lupus? It's the same thing with the Mirena, our bodies are rejecting it! Good luck and God Bless you all ~ Teecee007

hi all. I have never taken these kinds of boards to heart before, but this time I am convinced. I had my mirena inserted 11 days ago and I am all ready to have it removed. It hurt when it was inserted, but I've had 4 natural deliveries, so I can tolerate a lot of pain. I was fine right after as far as cramping goes, but since having it inserted, I've constantly felt pregnant. Lower back aches, heavy bloated feeling, and the constant feeling of having a uti. That is the worst. I constantly feel like I have to pee and nothing comes out. But I go to the doctor and there is no bacteria in my urine. And now my hair is falling out. My gyn really pushed me towards this instead of having my tubes tied, that this worked better, but if I wanted to feel pregnant, I would just have another baby. I have an appt on Monday for him to check it. I may just have it removed and find another dr who will tie my tubes.

I was on Yasmin for about 4 years, then stopped due to no health insurance (couldn't afford it anymore). I was off Yasmin for 4 months, started it up again now that I have a new job, and man- I HATE being back on this pill. Now that my body had a break, I can tell what this pill does/did- I've taken about nine pills and have already called my doc to go right back in and get a Paraguard IUD, because now that I know what "normal" feels like there is no way I can go back to this pill! Extremely tired again/feel run down all the time (since day 2 back on), nauseous (continual), dry eyes/vagina (after 2-3 days back on), sex drive ebbing off again (after nine days back on)... also strange when I read people's posts, my knees/hip used to crack (pop) all the time and it's started up again within one week of this damn pill. A big clump of my hair fell out yesterday too!!! I can only tell you how I FEEL- there is something NOT right in my body with Yasmin back in the mix. I felt awesome for four months sans pill (sex drive came back with a vengeance, forgot how it felt to feel aroused, feel lubricated, feel energy, feel happy go lucky) then Yasmin- now this crap has got to go!!! I'm so turned off by this eye-opener (thankful though, at least now I know what I put myself through for four years). I'll go with an IUD to avoid hormones from now on. Trust yourselves ladies, if it doesn't feel right, it might be bad for you! Good luck ladies!!!!
