Parathyroid symptoms and conditions

I don't believe you are experiencing side effects due to Synthroid - I have similar symptoms and just a couple of days ago my doctor and I have discovered that my symptoms may have to do with my PARAthyroid gland. I also have Chronic Kidney disease which also has a correlation to both the Thyroid and Parathyroid.

Ask your doctor to check your Ionized Calcium, PTH (parathyroid hormone), and your Vitamin D-25 - also your cholesterol levels. Also - check out GOITROGENS - certain foods and drugs, including SOY and Milk may affect your body's absorption of your levothyroxine dose (you may not be getting enough)

60 YO male: three weeks on .4 Flomax

I went on it because after Parathyroid surgery for kidney stones, I was still having symptoms. Mostly a painful urgency to pee, with only tablespoons coming out. That would last for 3-6 hours. I started out with pyridium (the pill that turns your urine orange). That seemed to help, but I was still having some lower-right abdomen KS pain events with the urgency. The urologist suspects I still have some stones that have yet to come out.

My prostate exam and PSA were good. No signs of cancer. I don't think the size of the prostrate was measured or whether BPH was an issue because of the obvious Parathyroid issue.

I started taking .4 Flomax, got the lightheadedness that evolved into a feeling of being slightly high most of the time. And feeling mildly relaxed.
Flow was improved, maybe a few less pees per day. Still peeing at least twice a night; good stream, good quantity.

Not a runny nose, but a thicker discharge. This week (3 weeks in) the nose is better.

Lower volume and clearer ejaculate. After the last ejaculation, I went right into an urgency and lower right KS pain event that lasted 6 hours. I was uncomfortable, but OK on Tylenol and pyridium. My events frequently happen on Saturday/Sunday. I have tried to figure out what, if anything I might be doing to cause or break this cycle, but there seems to be no correlation. I was hoping to get rid of the painful and disruptive urgency episodes, but so far they are still here every week or so.

Dreams have been a bit weird.

I have a swollen knee and toe, but this could be due to some hiking while on vacation. I saw the posts about painful joints, but can't make a direct connection yet.

Since Flomax three weeks ago, there seems to be a low level feeling in my lower abdomen. Not a pain as much as a presence, a tension. I think it's in the testicles, but you know how that is; accidentally smack one and the pain feels like it's inside the body.

I went to the doctor with joint pain. Found out I had a high calcium and parathyroid level. He thinks it might be maxide.

After reading what everyone is going through, I decided I would put up my experience. I've emailed some of you.. I'm a 35 year old, married, with 2 children. I was on Triphasil 28 for 4 years and then started to get breast tenderness. Doctor switched me to Ortho Triclyclen Lo in November 2004. Was never happy on that because the breast tenderness never went away and I started to gain weight. Why I stuck it out for a whole year, I have no idea. Then the Doctor switched me in November 2005 to Ovcon 35 - BIGGEST MISTAKE. As soon as I started taking it, I started bleeding. I bled for 2 weeks, then had a week off, then bled for 2 weeks, then a week off. This went on the ENTIRE time. My breasts hurt SO bad. No sexual drive whatsoever. I was angry, grumpy, irritable, bloated, constipated, you name it. I was literally in a constant state of PMS. After a month of being on it, my hair started to fall out (I noticed it in the shower). I went to the drs again, this time to my primary, not my ob/gyn and they tested for my thyroid. Initial tests game back normal, so they said go off the pill immediately because there's something going on with your hormone levels that is not right. I didn't take my pill Feb. 4th and haven't since then, I threw it out and let me tell you, I have bled Feb. 5, 6, 7, 8, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, and today 2/28, so far. Hair is still falling out. Breasts still hurt. Still bloated. Haven't lost a pound. Nothing's really changed other than I'm not putting that stupid pill in my mouth every day. So, since it will be 1 month OFF the Ovcon on Friday 3/3, the doctor now wants to do estrogen, progesterone, prolactin, parathyroid, pituitary, iron, and cbc tests to see what is going on. This pill messed me up so bad. I've never had female problems, EVER. If you are on this pill and are experiencing any negative side effects, GO OFF OF IT IMMEDIATELY. There's something w/this pill that is not right and I have no idea why the doctors are pushing it.
