I had my surgery July 16th. Last Lupron shot was June. My period has started back . I think it took about 2 1/2 months for mine to restart. I stop having the severe .irritating night sweats but I still get these off and on hot flashes that are not as severe as they were. I am hoping that the temperature changes will hopefully stop in the next few months. Although I don't like the body temp changes. I feel much better now that I don;t have the severe pelvic pain.back pain . severe abdominal pain . urinary tension and pain . difficulty standing straight and walking and excessive bleeding.

I had Mirena placed about 10 months ago because I had heavy bleeding continuously for about a year. It took about 2 months for the bleeding to stop. I haven't had a period since, but....I have had one yeast infection after another, about every 8 to 10 weeks, low back and pelvic pain and aching. I have no energy, wt. gain, fatigue, mood swings, and feel bad all the time. My husband says he can see why it works for birth control, because I have no sex drive. I'm glad all of you took the time to share your experiences so I know I'm not alone. I'm seeing my MD tomorrow to see about having it removed.

Hi, I am 51 years old and 10 days ago had a Mirena fitted as I have been having very heavy period bleeding for the 3 months. I was tossing up between an ablation (burning of the uterus lining) or having the Mirena. As my Aunt was thrilled with her Mirena I thought it would be a safe choice and it wouldn't be as traumatic on the body. I have had continual lower back and pelvic pain. I was quite scared last Friday that I rang the Specialist. I spoke to the nurse as the Doctor was away and she arranged a Pelvic Ultrasound. The technician told me that the Mirena was in the right place and everything seemed fine but every time they were scanning my left side I was in terrible pain. I haven't heard from the Specialist yet (will ring them shortly). The back/pelvic pain is so sharp at times that I can't move. I've just rang the Specialist and will see them tomorrow morning, fingers crossed this can be sorted out.

I'm 32 years old, never taken bc or been pregnant in my life. My gyn recommended loestrin24 for my CONSTANT pelvic pain and very heavy, crampy, painful 7-8 days periods. I started taking it, i had some spotting during the first set of pills and some heavier bleeding on the last four pills of my pack. When i started the second set of pills my pelvic pain grown and i had an ultrasound showing a 2cm cyst and also a mildly fibroid uterus. The gyn said just stick to the pill and once it starts kicking in, i will feel a lot better. Well i'm not. I started and extremely heavy bleeding on the 16th day of my second set of pills, 4 days went by and still bleeding, crampy. I started reading this board cause i'm on the edge to finish taking this pill.

I had my mirena IUD removed two days ago after having it in for 7 months. My doctor suggested I get the IUD when I came in for my postpartum checkup (after the birth of my second child). He made it sound like such a great idea, so I went along with it, and was miserable from that day forward. I had a lot of pelvic pain - it would hurt inside when I was sitting in the car or leaning back at a certain angle, and I had other random pains. I had NO sex drive and was constantly upset with my husband, which was frustrating because I don't usually feel that way. I had some huge blood clots/bright red bleeding that started today, and will see how much more I bleed in the upcoming week. But I am SO happy to have the IUD OUT!!! I feel like a normal person again.

i have been on the nuvaring for about five years, at the start before i put it in had sever acne and fluid retention, i started on the NR and i did get nausea and breast/nipple tenderness the week i put it in for about three months then i loved it, skin came good and the weight came off. in the last maybe year or two i have been had these problems, anxiety, heart palpitation, diarrhea like IBS symptoms with cramps and pelvic pain, bladder pain, stomach upsets, dizziness and yeast infections continuously, also the total loss of libido like im a dead fish!
i have since decided to go off it, im a week off it now and i have had spotting and some dark brown bleeding, bloated, aching muscles and pelvic area, nausea, and sleeplessness with a raised heart rate at rest. the main problem at the moment is the tiredness, i just cant do anything! im struggling to get out a bed and even when i do i feel lik im falling asleep and my body and limbs are lik rocks..
i hope this doesn't last long its taken over my life!

I had all the sade side effects as most the people on this page so I had the Mirena removed two weeks ago. I have noticed a big change for the better since having it removed but i have having one issue. I got my period two days after having it removed which was normal because i was supposed to get it at that time. The period was normal but now for the past for days I have been sick, really bad abdominal and pelvic pain( a lot worse than cramps) and have just started spotting. Is this normal after the Mirena removed. I planned on calling the doctor but I was just wondering if anyone else may have had this issue?

I got Mirena inserted in Oct 2007. A few months after getting the IUD put in, I started experiencing a lot of different things, such as, depression, weight gain, sinus infections, fatigue, back pain, headaches, severe bloating, changes in bowel movements, cramping, high blood pressure, lower back pain, decreased sex drive and so on... I went to the doctor because I had never had all of these things happen to me before. I never thought or realized it could be Mirena. My primary doctor told me my Thyroid was out of whack, and I've been on thyroid medicine for over a year now, and my levels are fine, but I keep gaining weight for no reason, and I am tired all of the time. I recently started having severe cramping and pelvic pain and went to by OBGYN.. I saw the NP and she didn't seem too concerned, and I insisted that they give me a pelvic ultrasound because I thought maybe I some ovarian cysts, as I have had in the past since I got this stupid IUD! They did the ultrasound and discovered that the IUD was quite a bit lower in the Uterus than it should be, and it was puncturing the muscle... not sure if it is a muscle or the actual uterus or what... I just had the ultrasound 3 days ago, on a Friday, and my doctor's office is suppose to be calling me today or tomorrow to let me know what's going on. I know that this IUD is coming out of my body for sure!!! I have been online now and read all the stories about other people's side effects with Mirena, and it is exactly the same for me! It is ruining my life basically! I have had it in for almost 2 years now, and I can't tell you how many times I've went to the doctor for multiple things, not realizing that it was the IUD causes all these problems!!! I would NEVER in a million years recommend Mirena IUD to anyone!!!

I saw your post on your experience on Mirena...I too am a user and have horror stories. Everything from extreme mood swings, pelvic pain, lack of desire for sex, excessive discharge, hair loss, tired all the time, body aches and the list goes on! All that I can tell you is that I truly felt that I was losing my mind, relationship or a standard sense of normalcy. While approaching what I believed to be the start of a long break up between my sons father and I, I decided to try one last thing. I had already tried a lot of nonsense to try and combat Mirena's horrible side effects, of which none were working...I made an appointment to have Mirena removed. OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im back! I feel like me! I have a desire to have sex again (all within a matter of hours) my mood is steady and only altered by significant events and rightfully so! Please try removing Mirena, start by trying to regain yourself, and all it will take is about 4 minutes to actually remove it. There is also an IUD that has no hormones (Pregnancy hormone only) in it, with only one true potential side effect, Pelvic Inflammation. Figure out your options but if your going through this much with Mirena (plus dealing with a baby is enough!) maybe its a sign that your body just isn't taking to it very well! Seek relief and regain yourself!

i would not recommend this to anyone. I am 43 with four kids. I was strongly advised to try this method of contraception but only 2 weeks in i was having horrible side effects. Mainly crabby moods but constant pelvic pain and lower back pain and sore breasts and to add to that constant discharge. So much so that i was having to wear a pad every day. due to go on holiday this week there was no way i was going feeling this way and also feeling paranoid in a bikin with the discharge so i had the thing out.Felt it could only get worse. this thing should not be on the market.Isn't it about time something was invented for men!!!! side effects aren't worth it for your health and well being.

I had my Mirena placed almost exactly 3 years ago. For about the last year, I've had pelvic pain almost constantly. I've gone to my gyno and she's given me several ultrasounds. All show that I have multiple follicular cysts on both ovaries. I am starting to worry that I have endometriosis and my gyno won't give me a laproscopy to find out-you won't believe her reason. She says because I don't have a problem with fertility (I have 3 children), that she's pretty sure that isn't what's wrong with me. So, I was talking to a friend who has endometriosis and she gave me her gyno's name. I have an appointment on 18 August and the nurse told me to consider, in the time I'm waiting for my appointment, having my Mirena removed. I have battled depression for quite a while, I've never been able to lose my baby weight (my oldest turned 4 last month) and recently, my pelvic pain has become so bad that I have considered going to the ER a few times. Also, I have lots of cramping in my back. And something that I never considered being a symptom of the Mirena, I'm having a lot of trouble remembering things. If I'm trying to say something sometimes, I can "see" the word I want to say but I can't get the word out. But I've seen a lot of other posts here that describe the same thing. I was honestly afraid I had some horrible brain tumor. I have recently gotten divorced, so I don't need the BC anyway. I had another ultrasound last Thursday, with the same results, only this time, my gyno told me to go see a gastroenterologist (sic). Basically, I felt like she was saying "don't bother me anymore because I can't help you". She never, ever suggested removing the Mirena and stupid, gullible me never considered it because I trusted her that it's not the Mirena. However, now, reading these experiences that are so similar to mine (and my sister, who also has a Mirena and is having the exact same symptoms), I am going to call the gyno on Monday and tell her I want it removed at my appt next month. Thanks for sharing, ladies.

I had the Mirena inserted 2 weeks ago and about 5 days post insertion I began feeling changes. The first problem I had was the inability to fall asleep and stay asleep. My 2 months old daughter has been sleeping through the night and I was looking at the clock all hours just trying to fall asleep! I had insomnia! Then I began getting horrible acne, deep lumps in chin, very painful. I have been a horrible person to live with. I have been crying for no reason at all and yelling at my husband and children. Luckily, I noticed that these changes began happening shortly following the insertion of the Mirena. I began my research and found this website! I feel so lucky that I realized it was the Mirena before it ruined my life. I have an appointment to get it taken out in 3 days! Of course, my doctor said, "The Mirena couldn't be causing these problems, the hormones are only in the uterus." Bull! I know my body and it is having a terrible reaction to the hormones! Keep your chin up and get the Mirena out, you can be normal again!

I had Mirena inserted into my cervix in March 2009. Almost one month later, I started having lower back pains and also pain in the left side of my pelvic. After going through 3 weeks of physiotherapy, the pain has reduced but it is not yet gone. Also, I've gained almost 10lbs during the past two months even though there is no change in my diet. Are these side-effects of Mirena?

I just went in for my second shot of Lupron (out of a series of 6) for treatment of stage IV endometriosis. The most noticeable side effect I experienced was during my first menstrual cycle after my first dose of Lupron. I had never experienced menstrual pain or cramping (even though I had advanced endometriosis) until after Lupron. I have a fairly high pain tolerance and yet the cramping for the first 2 days of my period were almost debilitating. I had extremely heavy bleeding and have had spotting daily ever since (app.18 days). I have gained about 3 pounds because I have no energy at all. I'm usually active and work out 4-5 times a week but by the time I get off work, I'm too fatigued to do so (hence the weight gain I guess). I have hot flashes and night sweats all the time. The most recent side effect is high blood pressure. I have never had high blood pressure in my life (I'm a healthy 25-year-old woman) and when I went in for my 2nd Lupron shot today, they told me I all of a sudden do. I don't seem to have mood swings but do feel depressed and sometimes more anxious than normal. I have experienced a decreased interest in sex as well.

I am 42 years old and had to get off birth control pills because of my blood pressure, since insertion I still have to take my blood pressure pills.
the problem I am having is very sharp pains that come from out of no where when i am walking or getting up from a sitting position. It is a very sharp pain that seems to originate from my vagina and makes my vagina feel very swollen. i went to my GYN and he did an ultrasound, pelvic exam etc. and everything was as it should be and advised me to keep a journal of when these pains occur. also after reading the message board I do have weight gain but my diet is the same as before so this makes me wonder if the weight gain is because of the Mirena.
sharp pains, swollen feeling

April 22,2009 I had Mirena removed, I had to be put to sleep to get it out. Went to get it out and the doctor could not find the string so I would need to be put under anesthesia to get it out. I only had it in for 1 week, experienced nervousness, pelvic pain, mood swings, dizziness and hot flash spells. I would not advise anyone to get it. You will experience spotting and you never know if it is your period or not. Your discharge is yellowish and I advise everyone to really not get this. I am a 48 year old married woman and this was not a good idea. Today it is out and I feel like a new person with it out just 1 day. I would advise everyone to stay away from this Mirena IUD. The doctors do not educate you enough. If I had let it stayed in 5 years and they could not find the stings in 1 week no telling if they could have gotten it out. Please don't get one

After reading all your posts, I just went in the bathroom at work and removed my nuvaring. I have been having many of the symptoms described here. I have been on NR for a little over a year and have noticed the dryness, irritation and decreased sex drive. I have also had extreme tiredness, but attributed it to having 2 small children and working full time. Now, I'm not so sure. My symptoms have all gotten worse in the past few months. I force myself to have sex w/ my husband 1-2 times per month. I have hip and knee pains to the point I can barely walk and then I'm fine the next day. After getting 7-8 hrs of sleep, I am dozing in my office at 11am. My temper is out of control sometimes. I feel like I want to get in my car and drive away from my life...and my life is not bad! Also, I imagine all the terrible things that could happen to those I love and it makes me cry. These are all out of character for me and I was chalking them up to stress, but now I'm not so sure. I have an appt to see my gyn tomorrow due to the fact that after putting in the ring for the last 2 months, I feel like my crotch is ON FIRE...burning, itching, but no discharge like a yeast infection. I also tried to speak to my gyn about the pelvic pain after insertion a few months ago and was encouraged to stay on it and told it was my vaginal muscles adjusting to the ring. Also, I have gained 5-8 pounds with no other change in routine that I cannot seem to lose. I actually took 3 pregnancy tests due to mood swings, weight gain and breast swelling/tenderness a few months ago!
I just hope I go back to normal soon. Anyone know how long it takes?

I am 26 years old and I was diagnosed with endometriosis last year (2008). I had pain in my lower abdomen for years and doctors always told me nothing was wrong but I knew there was. Finally a doctor did an ultrasound and found a 7cm mass on my left ovary. I also had a slightly smaller mass on my right ovary. My doctor told me that he would need to do a lap to remove the masses and possibly remove my left ovary because he could hardly see any ovarian tissue on the ultrasound. Thank goodness when he did the lap I was able to keep but ovary but he told me that I had one of the worst cases of endo he had seen. My right ovary was stuck to the wall of my abdomen due to the endo and I even had endo on my bowel. He removed what he could but not all of it was removable. He suggested that I go on Lupron for 6 months to "shrink" the rest of the endo. I have been on Lupron for 3 months. I just went and got my second 3 month injection. I have had some side effects such as Headaches, Bone pain, Hot Flashes, Insomnia, Drowsiness, Increased appetite and major Mood Swings. All of which come and go. I try to stay active but I don't over do it. It seems to help with the joint pain. Most of my side effects were in the first 2 months of getting the injections. I am told all the time that everyone reacts differently to Lupron and there is a pill you can take to reduce the side effects of Lupron but it does reduce the effects of the Lupron so my doctor suggested that I not take it unless the side effects were unbearable. I don't remember what it is called but if you are one of those people having major side effects ask your doctor.

After being on YAZ for about 7 months and realizing how it was harmin my mind and body, my doctor told me to stop taking it immediately, even though it was mid-cycle. he put me on Loestrin24fe because "there has been a much higher success rate with a lower dose of estrogen" NOT IN MY CASE!
i started taking it on a Tuesday, it is now the following Monday and i have already experienced:
harsh aches and pains throughout my body, unbelievable mood swings from cryin until my eyes hurt for NO reason to sitting and talking calmly within 5 minutes of each other, once again a complete lack of sex drive which i *just* recovered from with YAZ, not being able to eat yet having extreme weight gain??? my stomach is completely round when i have had a 6pack for my entire adult life and my jeans will not get past my thighs anymore, my skin and hair are oily and i have broken out worse than i did when i was a teenager ...
and the BEST one yet! Severe Panic Attacks during the night to the point where i am terrified to sleep because of waking up hysterical and actually "feeling" my dreams. i woke up from a nap yesterday crying uncontrollably because i was convinced i snapped my spine/neck because i dream it, felt it snap and HEARD it snap in my dream. it is all too real and i am on lack of sleep AND not eating for a few days.
Needless to say, i have stopped taking the pill as of last night. i am hoping to get back to normal in about a week because i clearly cannot function like this. I missed a gorgeous Easter day yesterday because i was having a low grade panic attack ALL day and couldn't eat or even talk to anyone.
i am not going to let another bc pill ruin my life this year. its not worth it but i must ask, where do i go from here? i am concerned about getting an IUD because my body seems to have every side effect possible with any type of birth control but i think the IUD is my only option besides complete abstinence.

where do i begin? i started the ring three weeks ago my gyno put it in for me. she convinced me for my age (20) this was the best method for me and she'd feel better, because ppl. my age are so careless! I've taken the pill before and stopped for over a year because ortho killed me, and i had no insurance. I should also fill you in that before I had the ring put in I had two utis back to back. I obviously can get them very easy, so i don't understand why my doctor would push this on to me! Anyways, I just suffered from a horrible uti and was so excited to feel "ok" again and honestly from day one or maybe two of the ring being in place I felt irritation! I have felt these awful cloudy adomonial cramps(all day long), pelvic pain, chest pain, sore throat, discharge, carpel tunnel, depressed, crying, mood swings, anxiety, bad dreams, tired, not sleeping through, loss of appetite, and god knows what else..It just seems never ending! So today I just happened to pick up and read "welcome to NuvaRing" and all it had listed for side effects were the commons ones such as vaginal infection, irritation, and vaginal secretion...thats it! I couldn't believe that I was feeling this horrible and this is all the information I had! So thankfully I found this website! I told my mom and she made me take it out today(supposed to take it out Friday) and honestly I feel better already and its been a hour! I have an appointment with my gyno tomorrow anyways so hopefully i'll find a better method of bc. I just wish we didn't have to go through all of this! They need to make a bc for men!!!!!!! LOL

Hi everyone ~ I am so glad I have found all of you. I have an appt today to have the Mirena placed. I highly considering canceling the appt now. I have read probably 98% bad and only 2% good. can anyone help me decide what I should do? I was having it placed for my heavy, painful menses, the birth control is/was a bonus feature. really? I shouldn't do this eh? someone please respond.
