I received my 2nd shot on 3/27/09. On 3/31/09 i began having headaches, diarrhea, chest pains, back pains, and abdominal, pelvic pains. They have not ceased since. I have tried taking headache medication but the headache returns the next day. Including the terrible abdominal pains. My mother overheard about a 5th grader taking these shots and ending up dying from them. Her doctors could not find the source of her problems and convinced her family there was nothing wrong...her death was the result.

I've had the Mirena for over 3 years now, I've been going to the doctor for some pelvic pains and she referred me to the obgyn whom i saw yesterday i go back in and see him at the end of the month but he is almost convinced that my pelivc pain which worsens with sex is being caused by my mirena. is there anyone else who has had this problem?? my pcp seems to think that the pains are more related to endometriosis.

I started mirena 7weeks after the birth of my daughter. As i had forgotten to take the pill previously and fallen pregnant my doctor recommended it. After careful though i decided to go ahead and have it. Ive been bleeding for 16days straight now, have been feeling faint very often and having difficulty focusing at times. Not only this but ive been experiencing chest palpitations on some occasions and abdo and pelvic pains. Has anyone else experienced the same so soon after having it?

I posted prior to having my Mirena removed. It's been gone for a week now, and although I am not 100% back to my "normal" self, I feel so much better. I am feeling more refreshed when waking in the morning, not so tired all day long like I was previously. I envy those of you who were smart enough to have it removed after just a few months, rather than waiting a couple of years like I did. I also found myself thinking about my husband in a sexual manner, which I haven't done for 2 years. It is amazing to me that having a tiny piece of plastic removed could make me feel that much better. I hope those of you who do not have bad side effects never do, and those of you who do have these side effects- GET RID OF IT! My hair loss has not yet stopped, but I think it's slowing down. The acne has disappeared- in a week it all cleared up. I have lost 2 pounds. Have not had a headache since it was removed. No strange pelvic pains, (had random pain previously). Good luck to those of you keeping it, and to those of you getting rid of it.

This has been a real eye opener for me. I had my IUD inserted in March or April of 08. My husband is the one who approached me tonight to tell me to get the Mirena IUD taken out. He's been complaining that I've not been the same for awhile now. Mostly due to the fact that I have no libido at all. I honestly did notice that there was a problem. I guess it's because I'm not missing it at all! I just assumed it was due to the fact that I've got two kids and a highly stressful job. But now that I'm reading all these posts I'm beginning to wonder. I notice some things I'm having in common with other women: hair loss, irritability, moodiness, pelvic pains, spotting, etc. Again, most of these I thought would just improve with time or were caused by other things, but now I'm thinking maybe my husband might be right and that it's related to the IUD. Darn! I hate admitting when my husbands right! =)

Just had Mirena inserted in the middle of June 2008. I haven't decided what to think about it yet. I screamed when it was inserted as I have not had any kids yet. Was in severe pain for about a week. And now I have on and off bad pelvic pain, some occasional nausea. The only other thing I noticed is sore muscles and lack of energy. I am lucky I have no period so far. I got off the depo shot after being on it too long and switched to Mirena right away. As for now I am staying on it unless things get worse.

Hi everyone,
Found this site and found it very reassuring, as I can relate to so many of you out there. Here is what is happening to me:

December 08 had Mirena fitted for irregular heavy periods, spotted/bled almost continuously once it was inserted, but gradually the periods became a bit lighter. A typical period lasted around 18 days, which was much longer than before I had the Mirena fitted. Had visual migraines (partial loss of sight), doctor whipped out the Mirena on 7th July, still spotting - into day 26 now! Feel really fed up with all this, have lower back ache, which I didn't have before, pelvic pains as though I am about to start my period, anxiety levels up to around 8/10, insomnia, just generally feeling really low, shakey and tearful thinking something is terribly wrong with me. Have an appointment tomorrow with the gynecologist and am going to ask him for a hysterectomy as my life is being ruled with these ongoing problems. Last year I had a scan which revealed I have fibroids and a thickening of the womb.

Does anybody else have a lot of spotting? Is it a post Mirena symptom?

Just started the NuvaRing. only had it in maybe 2 weeks. tons of pimples and having pelvic pains, lots of bilat flank pain. last 3 days abd bloating and gained 3 pounds (obviously most likely fluid retention). nausea and gastric pain after eating. I had been on the ring quite a few years ago and could not remember why I only used a short time. hmmmmm now I remember! Something quite not right. I went online to see if these symptoms may be short term but from all the other comments does not look like they are. Took the ring out. Also like others foul smelling discharge. This was only after 2 weeks. After reading all comments looks like a poor birth control choice if there are others with good experiences they should report otherwise this medication should really be taken off the market.

Well. it is now one week after third shot. I do believe the hot flashes are letting up some. I have horrible stomach and pelvic pains. along with lower back pain. I am losing strenght all over. I have way too much energy and although my memory is going, my reasoning has become better. The awkward thing is it is apparent that my already existing goiter is now for the first time in 12 years increasing in size. What gives... does this shot interfere with thyroid and hypothyroidism? If anyone knows let me know
