i got my mirena IUD in last year, Ive been getting a lot of the side affects like headache, mood swings, depression, weight gain, hair lost, nausea, really bad sharp pains, insomnia, and really heavy periods and, i couldn't feel the string...so yesterday i went to the hospital with the sharp pain and they did a CT on me.....get this, they told me that the IUD is in the pelvis, however, it is outside of the uterus and adjacent to the sigmoid colon and, a low density lesion in the adnexal region probably representing an ovarian cyst which has ruptured!!!! so they sent me home with some pain killers and told me to call the doctor that put it in......ohh yeah and I forgot to tell you they said i need to have surgery to remove it.(how nice!!!) GOOD LUCK TO EVERYBODY

I have only been using the nuvaring for about a month now. I recently took it out as the three week time period had been up. But as soon as I took it out, I began experiencing severe cramps, and sharp pains to my pelvis. My periods are heavier, and the blood clots are about the size of a quarter. Why is this? and is this normal?

Had Mirena coils for 10 years before having it removed 2 years ago as I was 52 and was told I didn't need it any more. Had always had acne while it was in place and that didn't clear up after having it removed. A few months ago, by chance, a 7cm tumor was found in my pelvis, which defied diagnosis by ultrasound, MRI and CT scans. My CA125 ovarian tumor markers were over double the normal rate. Gynae Oncologist told me I must have Total Abdominal Hysterectomy, Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy and Infracolic Omentectomy. Had the op 3 weeks ago and am now recovering. Finally had histology report back last week and luckily it was a benign Fibrothecoma! Strangely, my acne disappeared with it and I reckon the tumor had been there for some time. Is this a coincidence? I can't convince myself it is and would urge users to be very vigilant.

My son was put onto 4mg Singulair when he was three years old. He is now six years old. For the past three years he has been a very quiet child, to the point that people commented on how shy and withdrawn he was. He never wanted to go anywhere or do anything. His favorite activity was lying on the couch watching tv. He was always thirsty, frequently went to the toilet, often complained of a sore stomach & had several bowel movements every day, did not sleep well at night, was often grumpy, could not concentrate for very long, was frequently ill with cold-like symptoms and did not really like you to touch/hug him. At the beginning of the year he was diagnosed by an occupational therapist as having low muscle tone. In March of this year, his pediatrician increased his singulair to 5mg. He began having terrible pains in his legs, to the point that he would cry and be unable to walk to the toilet at night. I took him to my GP who did every blood test under the sun and x rays of his pelvis and legs. He could find nothing wrong. The only thing that had changed was the increase in Singulair. I had a look on the internet and found this website. I immediately decreased his dose to 1/2 a tablet for a week and then 1/4 tablet for a week before taking him completely off it. Within a few days our whole family and his teacher and therapist noticed a huge change in his personality! He talks all the time now, he laughs a lot, he loves playing outside and has lots of energy. He teacher says he is much more receptive at school. His occupational therapist says his muscle tone has improved. He has not had one single leg pain since coming off the medication. He is sleeping well at night, his stomach is never sore and he has not been sick at all. Not even one little sniffle!! Best of all he is a normal, affectionate little boy. I feel very angry with the manufacturers of Singulair and with his pediatrician, it feels as though my son has lost three years of being a child. He felt terrible all the time and I had no idea! I have told everyone I know who has a child on singulair to look at the side effects.

I had the Mirena put in July 3rd 08 at my 6 week check up after I had my second child. I did not have much pain during insertion. However now (about a year later) is a different story. I am glad that I found this page, and I am not alone. I have the common side effects that others list on here like weight gain, mood swings, irregular periods that are different consistency (clots, stringing, heavy flow, light flow), extreme fatigue but unable to sleep, lack of interest in normal activities, and breast tenderness. I know I expected the mood swings, weight gain (but did not think it would be the 18lbs i gained while i was eating healthy and working out) and cramping for a few months after insertion. However the past 2 months I have had a lot of pain in my pelvis. Cramping is not the right word for it, it feels like pressure on my pelvis. Like someone is standing on what feels like my ovary. This is also with the occasional flutter in my stomach that feels like a baby kicking. I have gotten what I believe is my period and took a pregnancy test that was negative. The pain is mainly on the right side which goes around to my hip and sometimes up to my shoulder. It has now turned into a stabbing pain in my lower middle abdomen (this is all with no other bleeding other than my 3 day period). I am calling to doctor tomorrow to get myself checked out. I feel the strings in the same place I always have but the pain is something I can no longer take. I am not sure that this is worth it anymore, I think its time to talk to the husband about a vasectomy!

I had Mirena inserted in September of 2008. I have never had children. The doctor said it works great and she loves it and it would be a great alternative to pills because with the pills I was so moody. Here is my experience first of all it was only supposed to take 5 minutes to insert. It took 25 minutes and they had to call another doctor in because my cervix was to small I guess. I was so so so so PAINFUL!!. When I got done i was like great its over its in i don't have to deal with this till I want to get pregnant. Well it was not so I began to experience really bad sharp pain in my pelvis every time I walked or had sex it was horrific. I went to the doctor I had insurance at the time and the doctor said don't worry about it may be a cis and there is not much we can do about it. Then when my insurance ran out the pain got worse so I had to do something today I went in the pima county family planning and I told the nurse my problem and she told me that it was probably not to get a good idea to get it inserted because I have never had children, so after talking I got it took out this was this morning and let me tell you I feel GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no more pain I know it may not be enough time to tell but I really do feel like a new person. So I am trying out new pill with a different hormone level.

I have probably had THE WORST experience with YAZ, than anyone else on this site. Please GOD do not go on this drug. It is pure poison, save yourself!!!! I am having horrible pain as I am writing this. OK, I have been on YAZ for about 9 or 10 months. My Doctor draws labs every year on all of her patients (just run of the mills things, to make sure you are still healthy.) By the way I am ONLY 21 years old. I was on Ortho Tricylen for about 3 years, but wanted to try something new. While on Orthotrycyclin, I had normal blood pressure, normal lab levels, painless periods and ovulation. This drug almost killed me, it might still. Within one year, I went from being a healthy 21 year old, to having my blood pressure increase every month until the doctor put me on a blood pressure med, which didn't help, so she increased that dose, which didn't help, so she added a water pill as well, which doesn't help. The highest my blood pressure went was 158/110. The doctor did a kidney ultrasound, everything was fine. I was having constant cramping on the left side of my pelvis for 3 months, the doctor did a uterus and ovary scan, and those were fine. the doctor ran blood work on me, My TRIGLYCERIDES (the fat in your blood) had TRIPLED in 9 months. That seems impossible to me, considering I had not gained any weight, in fact I had lost 10 pounds, and my cholesterol was not elevated, but was low. At the advice of the doctor I stopped taking the Yaz over a month ago. My period is almost 2 weeks late, and i am not pregnant. I am still having constant severe pain in my left ovary in my pelvic area. I had no sex drive on Yaz, and increased anxiety. I developed a strange fungal infection on my chin while taking Yaz. I do not have any diseases, and should NOT be developing a fungal infection on my FACE. I just hope my period comes back, I want to have a baby one day. I am very sad and hate myself for taking Yaz, please take this seriously.

I mentioned to my boyfriend the other day that I haven't been turned on at all in a over a month and how strange that is and he said NuvaRing. I hadn't even thought of that but it made so much sense because I have just put it in last week for the second time. So I decided to search the wonderful web and see if this was something other people experienced from the NuvaRing. Not only have I seen from this site that many people have the same symptom but also many more that I never thought would have been caused by the ring. I saw someone else mention IBS, I never had problems in that area before but in the last month and a half I have thought maybe I had IBS because I have been so sick. I originally thought it was my eating habits so I started eating much better and that also didn't help. Not too many days have gone by in which I haven't experienced intense stomach pain and diarrhea. I have been unbelievably tired lately and after sex I have had a throbbing pain that can only be understood by other women up inside my pelvis. I am taking the ring out today and going back to the pill. I am upset because I was really excited about the ring, it seemed so easy.. too good to be true I guess.

Im reading these stories and crying... So many lights keep going off the more I read... Im 30 and had my first child last June. They put the "thing" in 6 weeks post-pardum and it made me dizzy and sick to my stomach instantly, hut like hell, and I spent a couple days in bed on pain pills. But I figured a week or so was worth five years of freedom... HA!!! I had barely stopped bleeding and getting energy back for a couple weeks since before from having the baby, but this started that back up with a vengeance. I have been walking around like a b*tchy zombie for almost a year now. I actually went to the doctors in November to ask them if a pain I was having in my pelvis and my grumpy, irritable mood could be from the Mirena. I was told I probably had post pardum depression and possible a cyst, instructed to wait until after 6 or 7 months post pardum to see if my mood improved and get a follow up ultrasound if the pain in my pelvis got worse. Well that particular pain did go away, so I figured they were right, I let the "thing" do it's job and tried to forget about it as I was instructed to do. But the moodiness NEVER went away! I forgot who I was altogether, could not go to work any more, and attributed it to being a new mother, things change! Another 6 weeks later I actually split up from my fiance as I had driven him crazy... I spent Dec-Feb alone with a tiny baby, depressed out of my mind, and TOTALLY out of it everyday. Zero energy, but I figured I was just depressed. My fiance and I have since gotten back together after I practically had to tear him out of the arms of another woman, and convince him I could change. Still in all that time I never thought about the IUC. I still feel sooo freaking tired all the time, which has progressively gotten worse, and would have kept on except that about two months ago my back started hurting. I thought I pulled a muscle, so I stayed layed up resting. I thought I needed a new mattress so I went out and got another one, no change... Then I started thinking I might have some sort of infection, because Ive never had any muscle pain that lasted 6 weeks for no reason. I remembered the Mirena having PID warnings about people with multiple sex partners. Even though I have only had one, he had another, so I'm thinking I must have an infection and set up an appt to see the OB and get tested... In the meantime I came to this site after my mother sent me link of side effects... I read a few more each evening and have become more and more convinced that this is the problem, not only with my debilitating back pain (which has progressed into abdominal pain shooting down my legs as well), which has now progressed from irritable to severe, and not being able to function day-to-day. But also the moodiness, angriness, depression, foggy headedness, dizziness, headaches, lack of sexual desire, bloated feeling, insomnia - big time, I can be tired all day and it takes me two hours to fall asleep at night, then I sleep 10 hours and spend the next day tired all day - its not any way to live and I'm fed UP!!! - And then the hair thing... this topped it off for me, just too weird that all these people have the same problems, convinced me that I was fixable! It would have never occurred to me before I read this, but one day about 5 months ago I woke up with a weird new layer of very short hairs at the front of my scalp, not noticing severe hair loss, but my hair is VERY thick, so I cant really tell, but I did notice the short ones popping up. I actually thought my fiance cut my hair to use for voo-doo or something, I also thought my mother in law gave me something to dry up my breast milk, because shortly after having the "thing" installed my milk inexplicably dried up while we happened to be staying a week with them, now I think it was the Mirena. I have an appointment Thursday to take the "thing" out, and I am nervous about the pain, disappointed because the "thing" was so expensive, and I'm unsure what else to do about BC. But REALLY looking forward to finding myself again, I miss me, I know my fiance does, and I think my child would like to meet me too ;)
... Even if it isn't doing all these things, the paranoia and psychological trauma Im feeling just thinking about it is enough to convince me that this IS NOT for me! Wish me luck - I will follow up in a few weeks

DO NOT GET MIRENA! I am only 24 and mother of a 16 month old beautiful baby girl. I decided to have Mirena put in 2 months ago. The insertion itself was extremely painful, after being told it wouldn't hurt. I bled for a couple weeks after. Everything seemed fairly normal according to symptoms of insertion. Then, a couple weeks ago, I noticed I was having a lot of pain during sex. This progressed into severe lower ab (mainly on the right side) and back pain. I was sent to ER by my OB. They did a pelvic exam and couldn't see the strings thus an ultrasound was ordered. The IUD was there but so was fluid within my pelvis. They told me I had Pelvic Inflammatory Disease PID. I was put on 2 antibiotics and vicodin and sent home. I made a follow up with an OB the next day (mine was on vaca.). I asked him if the IUD caused the PID and of course he said no. I also asked if he suggested I remove the IUD and again he said no. I opted to anyways. The removal was worse than delivering my 9lb 5oz baby. I was crying, screaming and shaking. The Doc kept asking "Oh, does that hurt?" Eventually I yelled "No, it feels good!" He finally removed it told me take my meds and left. I've been bleeding since (that was a week ago) Well I reported him. Either way, after 4 days of antibiotics i was still in severe pain, very very tired and nauseous. So I called my OB and they admitted me to the ER. I had to stay on IV antibiotics for two days. I left the hospital a little sensitive in the pelvis but for the most part pain free. I was and am still just soooo tired and have waves of nausea. I lasted two days pain free and last night the pain returned. I am still on a round of antibiotics which should be done in a few days. I also am very bloated, have sore breasts, increased appetite regardless of the nausea, and peeing a lot. Not sure if i now have a bladder infection but it sure feels like pregnancy symptoms. They did preg. test in ER but came out neg. i think its too soon to tell. nevertheless I am scared and traumatized! I don't know what to do. I have a follow up in 2 weeks with OB. hopefully pain will subside and symptoms are just from PID. Any insight would be helpful....but please don't get the mirena! I am now afraid of my future....i want another baby some day but am unsure of how much damage has really been done.

PERFORATED MY UTERUS --- The placement of the Mirena was extremely painful. I could barely drive afterwards. I was sure that something was wrong, but the doctor assured me that everything was fine. I breastfed my son for a year (I had it placed 6 weeks post-partem) which is why I had it placed in the first place. It was considered safe for breastfeeding mothers (please research side-effects of the active hormone it releases on infants. We now know why our 13 month old has had respiratory issues since he was 5 months old). Over the year, I had radial stabbing pains up my back and down my legs. It hurt during sex. At my year check up, I asked the doctor to remove it, but he could not find the strings to remove it. After an x-ray confirmed that it was still in my abdomen, he scheduled a hystoscope to find it and remove it (he assumed that it was still in my uterus). During the procedure, he could not find the Mirena in my uterus and had to perform emergency laparoscopic surgery to remove it from MY ABDOMEN. It had PERFORATED MY UTERUS. My husband and I now know of 4 women that this has happened to just by telling people our story. WE LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN!!!! THE NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS ARE UNDER REPORTED!!! PLEASE INFORM YOURSELF BEFORE GETTING THIS DEVICE.

I just got mine out about a 1/2 hour ago. It wasn't that bad, but the doctor who inserted it cut the strings very short and it made for a bit of a difficult removal - but all in all less painful than the insertion. The pap smear I had hurt more.
She tried to talk me into keeping it. She said that the hormones are not systemic and therefore could not cause all of the symptoms I had - just like all the ones that a majority of the women here have. She thinks it is all in my head. Nice. All I can say is that I will not be going back to this office anymore.
I just don't see it. How could the hormones NOT affect the rest of your body? Can someone explain this to me? She said that the hormones stay local to the uterus and makes it so that the endometrial lining does not form. That they do not affect anything else. I guess that being a massage therapist, I know that everything in the body is connected. If something is out of whack, it affects the body in many other ways that you would not traditionally expect. Everything is connected.
Anyway - I feel just fine. I don't feel "full" in my pelvis. I feel a bit dizzy, but I think that is from all of the anxiety I had over a painful removal.
I am looking forward to having my body hormone-free and back to it's natural state. Hopefully some fo these 20 pounds I gained in the past 18 months will shed off. Cripes...

I started taking Aviane approximately 3 weeks ago because of my irregular menstrual cycle. I'm only 17, and since I was relatively healthy, my family doctor told me that there would be no serious side-effects. About 2 weeks into the pills, I started to experience shortness of breath and a constant pressure on my chest, near my thyroid gland. A few days ago, I had gone numb on one side of my body and lost some circulation to my right arm. Just last night, I was admitted into the emergency room because I had trouble breathing, nausea, tightness in my chest, dry throat/hard to swallow, tremors, near blackouts, fatigue, dizziness, weakness in my limbs, and heart palpations. They took tests and said all of them came back negative, but they still want me to check up with my family doctor soon. Apparently it was an allergic reaction to the chemicals in Aviane, but since estrogen and progesterone are natural hormones found in the body, I wasn't so sure. I had a fever last night, and my body could not stop shaking. We've contacted a few nurses, and they suggest I might be experiencing some of the side-effects of Aviane as well as a possibility of a viral infection. I don't think the benefits of Aviane are really worth it. I've been spotting ever since I started; my appetite increased along with my weight (I'm a bit underweight though so it's not that much of a problem); and obvious mood swings. I doubt many people will react to Aviane the same way as me, but it's very possible. So make sure you talk to your doctor about any possible side-effects and make sure you really want to start taking them. I haven't tried any other brands of the Pill, but I don't think I'm going to be starting any again anytime soon.

I was on Nuvaring for 3 years. During those 3 years I developed the following symptoms that at the time I just blamed on old age, being in my upper 30's.
Asthma like symptoms--After my breathing problems got progressively worse over the last year on Nuvaring, I went to a pulmonologist. I'm a non-smoker that couldn't even walk up one flight of stairs without loosing my breath. I had tests, MRIs and CT Scans. They couldn't find anything that would cause my breathing problems. I tried Advair and inhalers. No medications helped. The Dr. decided to take me off Nuvaring just to see what would happen with my breathing. After quitting Nuvaring, my breathing is back to normal. I can exercise and walk up steps again without feeling like I'm fighting for air.
Arthitis like symptoms--pains in my hands, knees, waist. I never did go to the Dr. for these symptoms, simply because the symptoms went away after quitting Nuvaring. Some days I couldn't even sit still because of the hip/pelvis joint pain. I thought I had carpal tunnel because I couldn't even grasp a cup or throw a dart.
Hair loss--I had some thick hair before Nuvaring. The only thing I can blame my hair loss on is Nuvaring.
I've been off of Nuvaring for 15 months now. Yes, it's convenient and affordable. But you can't put a price on a healthy life!

I have had Mirena since October 2007, and since then I have had severe cramps, sharp pain in my pelvis area, abd pain, headaches, mood swings, and NO sex drive. Every time My husband and I have intercourse I bleed and have pain. I have had it rechecked twice in the past year to make sure it is in place, and I couldn't figure out why I was having all these issues. After seeing this website I have decided to have it removed... April 21 .. so I will post again on how things are going!

I have been on Mirena for a year now and at first it was great the only problem I had was minor acne. Around Oct 08 I began to experience some pelvic pain and as time went on the pain got worse it was so bad that it hurt after peeing. Long story short, I went to the doctor and had an ultrasound done and I got my results today and they where 3 problems: 1. A calcified fibroid on the lower uterine, 2. Bilateral physiologic ovarian follicles with the lead follicle 17 mm on the left, and 3. Small cul-de-sac free fluid(which is suppose to mean one of the follicles burst). I asked the doctor what is it that needs to be done and she told me nothing the only thing I can do is have the Mirena removed because it was the cause of all my problems. So, she prescribed some medicine and that was that. I would advise all women who are on this form of birth control to get off and if you are thinking about getting on it think again I can't wait to have this thing removed so I can get my life back.

Further update. I went to get my mirena taken out but the doctor couldn't find the threads, she fished about for a bit while I laid in agony, still couldn't find them. I was then given a scan and they couldn't see it on the scan so I was sent up for an x-ray. Thankfully it showed up on the xray, it has got lodged somewhere in my pelvis/groin. Been sent away to wait for the gyny to call me to get me in for surgery, she isn't there until Monday so I have to somehow get through the weekend, they didn't even give me any pain killers. Please let me know if you know of anyone who has experienced this. I do think I've just been unlucky with the whole mirena experience, sadly its not over yet though!

I'm 21 and have been on and off birth control since the age of 14. I've always had terrible periods. My cramps are cripplingly bad and cause me to projectile vomit. Birth control I've been on in the past has made me gain unexplained weight fast (which I always lose as soon as I go off of it). As someone who has struggled in the past with eating disorders this is definitely not a pleasant side effect for me so I generally avoid the pill. In the last 6 months, my periods began getting worse again (they sometimes calm and spike depending on time of year, diet, etc). So I recently went to the obgyn after being off the pill for a couple of years. They did tests on me and discovered I have Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, uterine fibroids and the cysts on my ovaries are constantly rupturing and leaking the fluid into a cavity in my pelvis causing a build up and more pressure and discomfort. So the doctor prescribed that I take Loestrin24fe. I'm only halfway into my second packet and already it's been a nightmare. As bad as my periods used to be, at least the majority of the pain was only for one day. About a week ago, I experienced extreme nausea. I was waking up ever couple of hours in the middle of the night to vomit. I've had a constant uncomfortable feeling in my uterus (kind of similar to mild cramps), my chin has broken out in pimples (which is really rare for me), I'm by no means overweight but I've been exercising 2 hours a day for several weeks and have mysteriously gained weight, I've been moody and teary, had continuous headaches, my sex drive has dramatically decreased and my vagina sometimes feels uncomfortable, slightly itchy or painful (and this is with just sex with my husband by the way, I don't have an std or random partners or anything haha) and then to top it all off, last night I almost fainted. I had a sudden fever and broke out in a sweat and then felt really itchy all over. Especially on my back. My husband looked and said I had broken out in a rash covering my back and spreading to my chest. I drank some water and went to bed and I guess I slept it off because I feel okay today. Bottom line is that I wouldn't recommend this pill to anyone. I've had unfortunate side effects with BC before but none like this. Only problem I'm having now is deciding whether to finish this month's packet or just quit halfway through.

I got mirena in January of 08, so I have had it about a year now. I have had constant depression, fatigue and chronic headaches. My eyes are are starting to ache now and I am having abdominal pain as well. I get this very odd tingling sensation through my whole body. I have been to so many doctors and like everyone else, all the sudden thought is it mirena? I called to make an appointment to get it taken out, still waiting for the call back. Please anyone write back and let me know if you experience this weird tingling and eye pain. I have also started to have anxiety and panic attacks as well. They put me on Valium and all sorts of stuff. I have anxiety because no one can explain all of these symptoms. I constantly just feel tired and angry. I hope when I get this out I can be NORMAL again.

I am 63 years old and hadn't had a period in 10 years. I got a shot of Kenalog in my neck for inflamed muscle December 2 2008.On December
20th I started spotting, then got slightly heavier. It stopped a week later. I saw a OBGYN and he has done a pap smear and a biopsy. Haven't heard from those test, but I have a ultrasound of the pelvis ordered.
Any way I have started spotting again.
I also take Plavix so it can also be a cause according to my doctor.
This may be premature to write you this but I was looking for other causes and found your site. I have really been worried that there is much more going on. Will try to post the result of my test to let you know if it could be because of the Kenalog.

I was on Yasmin for 3 months or so earlier this year, and ended up going off of it because of side effects, but looking back on it now, I may have just found out what caused my gastrointestinal problems that I've had since then.
I was put on Yasmin like a lot of other people because I was having really irregular periods - like, I would go 2 or 3 months without a period, and all of my periods were EXTREMELY heavy. My gynecologist put me on Yasmin as a first attempt, saying it was the least amount of hormones, it wouldn't screw me up, I'd lose weight, acne would clear up (now, I've never had much acne, but most of what I had actually was related to the make up I was using. Let's clarify that now).
It worked miracles for me for my period. I was completely regular, normal flow, exact amount of days, barely any cramps. After about 2 months, though, I started having... not really mood swings, but emotionally violent reactions. I'd overreact to things, I'd freak out about things - I wouldn't necessarily have panic attacks, but I essentially had mini breakdowns. For example, one day, I was in hysterics for 5 or 6 hours because I thought that registration for the next semester started that day, and I had missed getting into the class I wanted.
My parents made me get off the Yasmin, thinking that had to be the only thing that could cause them. They even went so far as to confiscate all the packages I had, knowing I had no way to get any more, just in case I tried to use it without them knowing (this makes me sound like an addict. They were just overreacting, though).
Within 2 weeks of stopping, my mood swings were almost completely gone. Looking back, there was some nervousness and depression in those months as well, but the emotional lability was the most prominent thing.
Now, around Summer 2007, I began having stomach and hip pains - the stomach pains around my period, and hip pains (I call them hip pains, they felt like a 1-inch diameter steel rod was being stabbed through my pelvis) with exercise. We assumed that the stomach pains were cramps, but as it reached into Fall 07 and neither went away, they simply got worse, we began to worry. We considered appendicitis, cysts on my ovaries, nothing turned up. Eventually we determined that the hip pains were probably due to my cyatic nerve being pinched, and figured that the stomach pains were associated, and went on with life. I dropped my dance classes, and the hip pains went away. The stomach pains continued to worsen, though.
They were still focused around my period, though, and I was beginning to have diarrhea due to the pain. These pains would literally tense my ab muscles so bad I couldn't move. Around the time I went on Yasmin, however, they got a lot worse. I was no longer just having diarrhea around my period, it was all month long, every bite I put in my mouth. It was worse around the period, however.
After I went off the Yasmin, though, the gastrointestinal problems have never gone away. I have been through nearly every test I could be put through to figure out what has caused such severe stomach problems. The cramps have all but gone away, but there are days where I'm so sick I can't even drink water. I had to do a non-academic withdrawal from most of my classes this semester because of how bad my stomach is.
Now, I'm not saying for sure that my stomach problems are linked to the Yasmin, but... let's just say there's a strong chance, and I'm going to my doctor and having them pull my records tomorrow.

Well, I have had my Mirena since June/08. I had my son in May/08. I was 7 weeks pp when I had it put in. After my son was born I felt ok, no pains besides my c section scar
NOW...since insertion I have had a mess of problems. I have been a healthy woman for a long time and never had issues like this until July-ish. I am 27.
1. I had horrible back pain and my legs felt like I walked in 7" heels the night before (the tight muscle cramps, etc). My PCP told me I could possibly have a slipped disc and wanted me to go to PT. I had all my blood work come back fine btw. Since I knew in my heart I didn't have a slipped disc I did not waste my money on PT.
2. I have NO sex drive. The thought of sex makes me gag. No joke. I had sex 6 weeks pp and had a libido with no sleep. My son sleeps 11 hrs a night and I still don't want sex. As I type, I could go the rest of my life with no sex. THAT IS NOT ME AT ALL!
3. Extreme tiredness. Like I said my son sleeps 11 hrs a night and I sleep 8 hrs a night.
4. Light-headedness- I do have a BP of 110/70 so if I get up fast I get dizzy, but more now than before.
5. Started to have SEVERE pelvic pain right above my c section scar. It hurt so bad I was about to go to the ER. I was home alone with my 6 mo old so I tried to wait it out. I called my OB and they got me in. In his exam he felt a huge knot in my pelvis and it hurt like a MF! He suspected a hernia so he sent me for a CT scan.
Got the results yesterday and they came back normal. He said maybe I bruised something. But why do I have a big knot in my pelvis?
I feel like I am crazy. My bf takes my pain issues with a grain of salt now days. My OB did say since there is progesterone in the Mirena that my leg issues could be from Mirena and he was more than happy to remove if I wanted.
I still have it in and more and more I am thinking of getting it removed. My issue is I am so bad at taking pills and didn't like the Depo.
Anyways ladies...please let me know if you have had these issues. My email is arizonaequine@yahoo.com
Hope this can help someone feel less crazy!!

I had a chronic sinus infection and my doctor put me on Levaguin and 80 mg of prednisone. I am 62 and I take only synthroid as a prescribe. drug. I told my doctor I was a borderline diabetic. She told me the side effect were bone weakening in the hip and pelvis and stomach upset. At first I had a lot of energy and sleep a lot less. I just thought I was getting better. I tapered down to 1 1/2 . After taking them for 11 days I was not able to function. My body was under extreme distress, I have very excellent blood pressure and I am in very good health. I have been off the drug for 4 days. I am still experiencing sweating, hypertension, extreme muscle spasms. I am unable to wear my contacts, I am short tempered and I am normally the opposite. I have horrible headaches and I very seldom ever get headaches. I told my doc and she said it would go away in time.
My body is fatigued I am have trouble focusing, sleeplessness. I don't know where to turn at this point. Sometimes I feel like I should go to er because of the hyperventilating and rapid heart beat. I am afraid to exercise. I am eating a lot of high protein foods, I am not gaining weight, I have lost 7 lbs in two weeks. PLEASE EVALUATE THE RISKS OF THIS DRUG IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE FOR ME. DOCTORS DON'T ALWAYS TELL YOU THE WHOLE TRUTH AND THEY NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS.

I got my Mirena on the 1st of Sept. I had a copper IUD before with no side effects so i thought I should be fine. I have had cramping since insertion, a dull tenderness in my pelvis, almost a throbbing pain, spotting, nausea but not throwing up, and fatigue, and absolutely no sex drive... I feel gross. I'm have an ultrasound on Monday to see about the placement.. but after reading all of the other posts maybe i should just remove this thing before it gets worse.
