I started on the NuvaRing on my first day of my period... I didn't feel uncomfortable, it didn't slip out. I was fine until my period kept going. I usually have a 4 day period, and on the 7 day i decided to take out the nuvaring. It is obviously getting in the way of my sex life, but now... i think my body is thinking its PERIOD time again, nuvaring sucks.

I am 34 and started taking loestrin 24 at the advice of my doctor cause I have really heavy periods and a lot of breakthrough bleeding mostly due to fibroids which has made me quite anemic. I was hoping this would help. I started Loestrin 24 about 16 days ago. On the ninth day I started breakthrough bleeding and it hasn't stopped! I feel like it's become a full fledged period! I just hope the bleeding stops soon. I have pretty bad cramps and backaches. I've been popping many advil. Also, my breasts are tender and they're definitely bigger (I liked my boobs the way they were!). As far as mood, the first week was fine, but I was pretty lethargic and depressed the second week. Starting the third week yesterday, my mood has been much better. It sounds like people have had success after the 3 month waiting. Me, I'm willing to duke it out for another month for the almost-nothing periods. But 2 more months of this I don't think I can handle. I'll let you know what happens

My doctor put me on Yasmin about 2 years ago because I had severe menstrual cramps. So bad that I had to take off of school whenever I had my period because the only way to relieve my pain was to lie in bed with a heating pad on max, and i'd still cry over how bad it was. In the beginning of taking Yasmin, I felt awesome, lighter period flow and minor cramps that actually could be relieved with midol but seeing as it was nothing compared to what I had gone through I usually didn't even take that. Now i'm 21 years old, am 15 pounds heavier, I have no energy and severe anxiety and stress. A few months ago I had this 2 week episode with a headache that wouldn't go away with advil, like a normal headache would, stomach pains, nausea and vomiting. I had never felt so awful in my life. I went to a gastroentronologist and was diagnosed with IBS. I always had minor constipation when it wasn't period time and I hadn't been eating good and exercising as usual but this is noticeably worse, and comes with all the goodies of IBS like mucus ew. I'm going to stop taking Yasmin and see if my body starts to work properly again although i'm not looking forward to spending my periods in bed again crying.

I have noticed that I will get 1-3 zits around my mouth (hormone induced)right at period time on this medication - without fail; this isn't helped by the fact that I have my period 2x per month like clockwork on this pill. My period starts on the Monday of Week 2 and the Monday of Week 4. Never fails. Those have been my only 2 symptoms, but its not working for me. Loved Depo but have taken off weight and fear putting it back on.
Called my gyno today to switch pills.

Mirena has caused me to lose my relationship. I had it inserted about 4 months ago and I dont even know who I am anymore, I have spent a good amount of my time yelling and screaming over things that never bothered me before, especially around period time which seems to be every 2 weeks now, this birth control is terrible. My relationship ended a few days ago because I keep hashing the same arguements over and over again, how can someone else like me when i don't even like myself.

I guess I have been lucky, I haven't experienced any vaginal pain, excessive discharge, emotional moodswings, or lack of sex drive while on this.
Actually....aside from my boyfriend saying he can feel it at times during sex....I've had no issues with it up until now.
But last night my bf playfully grabbed one of my boobs and I almost screamed from the pain. He commented on how they seemed swollen, and a bit stiff.
Now I am due to take the ring out today, so this may be a side effect that one might experience as it gets close to period time. I'm not sure. All I know is that breast tenderness and swelling is one of the few symptoms I have NEVER experienced. It have NEVER been a PMS symptom for me, nor have I ever experienced it while using other contraceptives.
Has anyone else experienced this while on the NuvaRing?

I have been using BC pills for 10 years and in May of 06 after having my son, I started with the Ring. Upon first use I noticed cramping/abdominal pain but brushed it off and continued. Then about 2 or 3 months into it I got a nasty, bumpy rash around the perineum area. It went away after about a week. Then a few months after that around my period time I started getting flu like symptoms:sore throat, achy body, headachs. This has been happening for the last 3 months, each time was when I was getting my period. So not only did I have mood swings and everything else that comes with your period but I also felt like I was sick with flu/cold. I felt like I was going crazy because it was happening EVERY MONTH!!! Then when my period finishes I am left with vaginal irritation. My mother and sister made a suggestion that it could be the Ring. Needless to say after reading all of these postings, I believe it is the Ring. I recently stopped using it and will see how I feel. I will also have my thyroid checked because since using it, my thyroid level has gone WAY out of whack. Be Safe and Good Luck to all of you who have been effected by this product.

I have been on Yasmin for 3 months. The following are symptoms I have experienced during this time but I am not sure they are totally related to Yasmin...feeling tired more often, bloated, gas, slight cramps, and lots of spotting. The positive effects are that my menstral cramps have subsided and my mood swings have leveled out. Period time has less bleeding. Currently looking into matter of spotting and am hoping that soon it will go away. My gyn says to allow up to 3 months for the body to acclimate. I will soon see.

Hi,
This is for KM #18071.The reason you have those side effects is because you decreased too much at once in such a short period time. You were supposed to decrease only 5-10 mg in 7-10 days.I cant beleive this doctors how idiots they can be.
Why the fricking heck they become doctors if they dont know how to give a prescription. My wife had the same problem, she was on prednisone for 1 1/2 months and the doctor didn't even tell us the side effects.I had to find out on my own.I feel like punching this doctors in the face of how stupid they can be!!!Take care and i hope you feel better soon.
God Bless

My Update:
I am now 1 month (approx) post Yasmin and feeling MUCH more like my normal self. The anxiety is nearly gone; very little of it and if I feel it coming I can now divert my thoughts and most of the time it goes away. I am probably 85-90% back to how I used to be.
My energy is back and I am not so 'doom & gloom' with my feelings. The heart palps have stopped almost completely as well.
TWOGIRLSMOM- I hope your issues subside once your period ends if not sooner. I have not a clue if/when I will have my next period as I have always had very irregular periods. I have seen others post-yasmin say that around PMS/period time the symptoms came back to some degree. I am hoping this does not happen. The Xanax helped me get through the worst days and it's been a week since I have needed one. Sending you a virtual hug that things improve for you asap.
Here's to everyone else going through this hell...may we all be happy & healthy again soon.
To those considering taking Yasmin PLEASE don't!!! This is the WORST pill I have been on in my life; and I have taken many types of bcps in the past to regulate my PCOS symptoms. NEVER have I experienced such a horrific life change do to this pill. I was only on it for 3 months and it completely ended my normal life during that time. I feel robbed of those three months and I don't want anyone else to sacrifice anything for this awful pill; it's just not worth it.

Dear Two Girls mom
I remember the blurry vision being realy bad first 3 months its settled a bit now but as SILKE said to be its worse around stress and being this your first period then thats also a factor.
Let me know the bp results, h9ow are you feeling otherwise.
The anxiety is always bad around period time i found so maybe thats a time to take perhaps something herbal eg chamomile tea or something to relax you so you are relying on a natural helper. DOnt get me wrong i totallyunderstand why you are on the paxil and zanax as im sure anyone here would i just dont want to see you go through another type of withdrawal thats all. I understand having kids and going through this is HELL i have 3 ages 10,7 and 2 so im there with you but battling it out each month now is gonna save you later i assure you....
You will get there and just like the others were there for me im here for you..........

To Kay who just recently posted, HANG IN THERE....I was on Yasmin for nearly 2 years and suffered from depression, rapid heart rate and severe anxiety for the last couple of months of taking it before realising it was due to Yasmin and getting off it. I have now been off it for 4 months and everything has been getting better each month...however, the main symptom that has lingered has been ANXIETY. Prior to Yasmin, I have never in my life had an issue with anxiety and each month (mainly around ovulation and period time) I get obsessive/irrational/negative thoughts and become more panicky and anxious. Each month has gotten better, but I am aware of it taking anywhere up to 7 months for some women for these effects to completely go. Be sure to cut out any caffiene as this only makes it worse. Also, I tried magnesium supplements as I heard it can lessen anxiety but it only made me worse so I stopped. It DOES get better but it takes a while. I think we almost need a website for those who have STOPPED taking Yasmin as much as those suffering whilst on it. GOODLUCK and take care.
WARNING to the guest who posted a reply to desperate boyfriend about the fact that you are now on Yasmin and feeling great...I too thought Yasmin was great for a year and a half until I was completely taken over with depression, dizzy spells, rapid heart rate and anxiety. Please watch how you're feeling as I would not recommend Yasmin to anyone, and would not wish my experience on my worst enemy. Do not be lulled into a false sense of security cause it seems to be ok at the moment. If I had been warned of the possible effects of this pill I could have saved myself and my family a whole lot of heartache.
Lots of hugs out there to those getting off this awful drug. It takes time, but you will get better and get back to your 'old self'!!!

HI,
My doc prescribed Yasmin to me because I have heavy heavy periods that come every three weeks due to fibroids. As a result, I have anemia, am up 2-3 nights during period time because of heavy bleeding - then have up to a week recovery time where I'm exhausted because of all the bleeding I went through. I was on Alesse for 12 days last year because I was going crazy! I had extreme moodiness and anxiety. I have the pack of Yasmin in my cabinet and last month I found this site, read everything and decided against taking it. Here it is only 20 days later - got my period and don't know what to do. I'm happy to see that there are some who have had positive results, but since I had such a bad time on Alesse - I don't want to go through what all of you have endured - it's terrible - but I'm sick of the frequent periods and heavy bleeding. If you have any suggestions, please post or email me at Andelmar@aol.com. Thanks and I hope all of you with negative side effects are feeling better - it's certainly no way to live!

age: 30 Height: 5'9" Weight: 145 lbs
Yasmin user: 2 years to regulate periods and rid of severe cramps
Smoker: No Drink alcohol: rarely
Yasmin definitely got rid of my cramps...I don't pass out from the pain anymore. I thought of Yasmin as the miracle drug until now. Here are some of my symptoms that I've never linked to Yasmin 'til now:
- Headaches (my doc diagnosed me w/ having migraines....they are hereditary; no one in my family has migraines). I now believe my bizarre headaches are Yasmin related.
- Weight gain: not much...about 5 lbs
- Moodiness & extreme fatigue: only around period time
- Blurry vision: could be linked to Yasmin...I never had to wear glasses until two years ago.
- Shortness of breath, occasional chest pain
- Dizziness: some...especially after eating.
I have NOT experienced the following which have been mentioned here: no leg cramping, no nausea or vomitting, no panic attacks, no hot flashes, no acne, no trouble sleeping, no brown spots on my face, no unusual discharge, no hair loss.
I'm not sure what to do now...I don't want to continue taking Yasmin (or any other BPC for that matter....they all have side effects...) I want my strange headaches to go away but I don't want my horrible cramps to come back.
I'm supposed to start a new pack tomorrow...but I'm not.
Much luck to all of you!

My first side-effect was dizziness when I would get up from squatting for a short period time...darn near fell down.
I'm glad I've read the above because I've thought that the aches in my hands were from my not taking my anti-inflammatory regularly enough.
Great thing about sharing experiences, we all profit in some way.
I'll check back to see what other symptoms others are having. Thanks to all who contribute.
