I was switched from Natrilix SR to Coversyl. After about two days on Coversyl, I developed a persistent dry cough. I went back to the doctor and complained. She then put me on Cozaar. For the first 4 weeks, everything was fine. Then I started to developed the same dry cough that I experienced with Coversyl and it wouldn't go away. Need to see the doctor again.

The cough from Lisinopril is from the ACE inhibitor (drug classification not isolated to just Lisinopril), one of the main side effects of almost any ACE inhibitor is a persistent dry cough...do not stop blood pressure medications without discussing with your doctor. There are many other blood pressure medication which are not ACE inhibitors and will not cause coughing, but will control you blood pressure....ask you doctor to try a Angiotension receptor blocker or BETA blocker I've been there I thought I would go crazy from the cough I experienced!!!. I was on Avapro...it worked great for me, but when my insurance wouldn't cover that paricular medication I was switched to DIiovan, and it work well also without side effects!!! I hope this helps somone!

I started taking Lisinopril and Lipitor in early November. In early December I started to ache all over and began developing a persistent dry cough. He suggested I was reacting to the Lipitor and suggested I change to Zocor. I quit the Lipitor but did not start the zocor. The body aches improved only slightly and the cough got worse. In mid December I consulted my PCP and he indicated that the cough and sore chest were reactions to the Lisiopril. I stopped taking the Lisinopril and the PCP gave me Prednisone to cover the systems for ten days. It worked well and I was pain free and cough free while taking it. Last Friday it ran out. Since then my body ache got slightly worse and is now improving. The cough is back but to a lesser extent than before. When I get all of these drugs out of my system I plan to start the zocor. If it causes no problems I will allow the PCP to put me on another BP med.

Several weeks ago my OB/GYN prescribed Lisinopril after another drug didn't achieve desired results. Very soon after I began to take it I developed a persistent dry cough, itchy skin, and sleep problems. I didn't connect these symptoms to the lisinopril but last evening at a dinner date my friend noted my coughing and related that another friend has similar problems and was also taking lisinopril. My husband then searched the internet and found this website. I have now stopped taking it and will see my doctor ASAP to pursue other treatment for my hypertension. After reading many of the postings here, it seems that at the very least, more research and/or testing is in order for this drug. Makes one wonder if there are other covert effects that could cause serious damage.
