I was prescribed this medicine for 10 days due to a cyst like skin infection on my inner thigh. On day 5 My right eye on the left side was very bloodshot. Not sure if its related as I had pink eye a couple weeks ago and thought it was gone. I also have gout and take allopurinol which sometimes causes my eyes to get bloodshot for extended periods. On day 9 I had a headache (throbbing behind my eyes), slight fatigue and that night it felt like I might be getting the flu (aches, nose passageway closing a little). Today has been the worst, still not sure if its related to the meds as this has been the season of the swine flu as well. I have positional vertigo which makes me dizzy sometimes, I've been free of dizziness from the vertigo for 3 years and just started again tonight. My teeth have been sensitive to cold all day too and even though it was 98 degrees outside and 77 in the house I was freezing. Feel a little bit of heart flutters as well. I did miss one dose on day 8. I probably didn't drink enough water with the prescription either. Lastly, I've been a bit stressed from work and an upcoming trip so take these "side effects" with a grain of salt. Either that or my body is week from all the other problems I have. Thankfully I haven't been itchy as others describe.

My 2.5 year old son was on this for a little over a week. We noticed him start to have rapid eye blinking and head twitching every other minute or so. Took him to ER, doctors said possible pink eye even though there was no redness or discharge in his eyes. Followed up with his pediatrician and was told no pink eye but possible reaction to Zyrtec and to discontinue the med. Also advised that it takes up to 6 weeks for medicines to be completely out of the system. Pediatrician is also scheduling appointment with neurologist in case this "tic" doesn't go away in a reasonable amount of time. I wish I'd known about this site and others prior to giving my son this medicine recommended by a doctor. There should be a warning label on every bottle of medicine both prescribed and otc to direct people to websites such as these or a 1-800 number to advise about any and all potential side effects.

Back in April I came down with a Sinus infection (I basically can diagnose myself because this is all I get these days). Well, the doc told me that since I hadn't had the wretched sickness 7 days (I was on day 5), that i would have to wait til Monday. I wish I had picked a fight, because by Monday, my throat was so swollen I couldn't swallow my own saliva! I had to refreeze EVERYTHING to numb my throat before even trying to drink any thing. So, I went to my physician and he prescribed me omniceff. Usually that does the trick, but by that Wednesday (day 9), I had trouble breathing, my sinus got backed up and caused pink eye, and apparently I also had Laryngitis. I went back to my physician, bent over and begged for a shot of something (my family knew I was bad if I was begging to come face-to-face with my phobia). So they gave me a shot, pink-eye eye drops, and other items. All samples so I wouldn't have to pay for the very expensive prescriptions.
By that Friday, I still hadn't gotten better and found myself living over the trash can because the mucus was so bad I vomited anything warm. He sent me to the Ear-Nose-Throat doc for the following Monday.
Phew, this doc helped me. He was the one to find that my sinus caused a respiratory infection and Laryngitis. He prescribed me Avelox and gave me a stern warning to read all the side effects and eat a good amount of food and to keep track of any issues I have with it.
So I went home with my Avelox samples and took one after eating a large bowl of grits with eggs...I hadn't eaten like that in 2 weeks, so I was praying to keep it down. Once I finished eating, I did my online research and found that Avelox is almost the last prescription they give you before sending you to the hospital and that it was the same prescription as the pink-eye eye drops only in pill form!!! I noticed that if I didn't eat a high-caloric diet while on Avelox, I paid severely with stomach aches, nausea, dizziness, and sometimes cramping and vomiting!!! The doc was serious.
I was on this med for almost a month before I kicked the crap out of my infections!

My daughter was prescribed Sulfatrim 200-40/5 during a ER visit where she was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. I gave her her first dose (two teaspoons) around 6:00pm and the next morning when she woke up her eyes were blood red. She looked like she had an extreme case of pink eye, minus the itching, swelling and puss. It went away after about three days off of the meds. I will always look up any meds prior to given them to my child, even if they are prescribed by a physician.

I have a three year old son who has severe allergies. He's been taking singulair for 2 years on & off just in the allergy season. He started taking, singulair again in the beginning of April. One morning he woke up and both eyes were really swollen and red, I called his doctor's office and told them i thought he had pink eye, after 2 different drops and no change I brought him into the doctor's to see if it could be his allergies, and they agreed and started him on Zyrtec. I still was not impressed with the results so i brought him back yet again to see if we could see a specialist. Instead they put him on nasonex to try.
In the beginning of March I started to see a change in my usual happy fun loving son. He was scared to sleep in his bed, waking up in the middle of the night from bad dreams, uncontrollable screaming fits that would last up to an hour, saying he wants a Boo Boo. At first we thought it could be jealously over his new brother, or maybe something at his school.
Then i found this website and everything clicked, how scary it must be for a child to have these horrible thoughts and not be able to understand or stop them. What are the people at merck thinking??
Can any one tell me when the symptoms stop. He's been off for a week and we see some improvements. But he still has these fits with almost an OCD tendency to them (mainly when he's overtired), stomach pains, lack of appetite.

I started the NuvaRing in October..since then I have constant breast tenderness and pains in my pelvic region. After inserting a new one each month I feel a burning sensation inside. I wear contacts daily and since starting the NuvaRing they have become intolerable to wear. The first month I used the ring, I bled for 4 weeks straight. I have also gotten nauseous in the morning when I'm working out. Have thought several times I was pregnant and taken tests that have all come up negative.
Has anyone else experienced the discomfort and eye irritations?

I've been on the pill since September and I've noticed some problems with my eyes. At first I thought it was pink eye since it was only one eye, but the doctor thought it was a dry eye. It comes and goes.. usually stays in one eye for 3-4 days goes away from 3-4 days and then shows up in the other eye. Not sure if this is due to the pill, but thought it might be since I can't think of anything else that would cause my eye to dry up, become irritated and red. Please respond if you know of the pill causing anything like this.

I just pulled the ring out tonight in the middle of my 3 weeks because it finally hit me!!! The light bulb just came on for me. I had been feeling incredibly sad and depressed for the last 6 months since I have been on the ring. I thought it was not like me, but I thought it was job stress. I was moody with everyone around me all month long...very irritated and not wanting to be bothered. I am a teacher and even my students noticed my moods. I had no desire to enjoy the things I use to enjoy. I walked into my school 2 days in a row and had sharp pains in my chest. I thought I was having a heart attack or something, but then it went away. I am on summer break now with a lot of time to think. Something told me to check out the side effects of the ring. Maybe it was divine intervention. I was shocked and almost cried when I found out that I was not alone. I even saw one person report swollen and red eyes. I had this also and thought it was allergies or pink eye, but now I understand that it was probably the ring since I have never had this reaction before. I enjoyed the freedom of not remembering the pill, but I don't think I will ever use the ring again. It definitely affected my personality and judgement.

My 2.5 year old was prescribed Omnicef for possible sinus infection/pink eye the day before yesterday. She had a dose that night and two doses yesterday. After that third dose, I noticed diarrhea like water and went to the Internet to learn a little more about this medication. I found this website and was prepared for what this evening had in store. We woke up at 3 a.m. with her crying inconsolably and very uncomfortable. I held her a little bit and she wanted to be back in her bed, I'm sleeping next to her on the floor when she'll let me sleep. It's MISERABLE... a MEDICINE is CAUSING this!! She's writhing in pain from the cramping of the diarrhea. The benefits don't out-weigh the risks of this medication! I will NEVER give my child another medication without researching it first. Of course, every medication has side effects that you may never experience and you don't know until you try, but it sounds as though this med is MOST LIKELY to cause diarrhea, not worth it!!

I added a side effect several days ago. I would like to respond to the people who are asking if this ever goes away. I suppose it is an individual thing but I am feeling better every day. I've been off the Levaquin for over a week now and no more pain in feet, elbow is much better, fatigue is lessening. The funny thing is my husband went to the doctor for pink eye yesterday and the doc prescribed Levaquin, as well as eye drops. He has taken it in the past with no side effects so he went ahead and got the prescription filled. He asked the doctor about my reaction to it and he said he'd never heard of such a thing! I find that hard to believe. Anyway, my doctor said she'd heard of it but that it was rare and noted it on my chart as an "allergic reaction". So good luck everyone. You can fill out an adverse reaction form at www.fda.gov/medwatch/report/consumer/consumer.htm Hopefully, if enough people complain they will at least inform patients that such drastic side effects are possible for some people.

I was put on 1 gram of solumedral a day for 3 days and I am now doing the whole taper down thing for the next 18 days starting at 80 mg a day of prednisone. My knees and lower back were extremely painful the first 4 days. I'm now at 50 mg and the joint pain isnt too bad anymore but i did catch a cold, pink eye, and I feel very spacey. I am taking natural supplements along with the pred, I think they are helping a little. I'm also drinking ALOT of fluid and really fighting the cravings to eat. I hope there are no serious side effects as the doses get lower. I hope everyone that doesnt NEED to take this medicine can some how flush their system of it or for those who must take it, hopefully you can counter balance the negative side effects...Good luck and please share any knowledge you may have...we all need it!

I went to the doctor Friday night worried that I had pink eye. He says "No, your eyes are fine, nothing wrong there, but your cough sounds awful." so he listens to my lungs and says I have bronchitis. Yeah, I had a sinus infection a couple of weeks ago and the cough never went away. So I say, ok, what can you do? I have no insurance, the place I currently work at is cheap. He brings me 5 sample packets of Levaquin, 750 mg. Says to me "These are really good. Take one a day for the next five days. They should do the job, they are $25 a pill." I think, wow, that's some expensive medicine.
ANyway, I come home and take a pill around 8. I have a second job that I work on evenings and weekends, so I have to get up in the morning to go. I can't sleep like usual. I wake up every hour or two. First I am sweating, I get up and turn the heat down. Second time I wake up with tears running down my face, I'd been having a nightmare about one of the kids I watch dying od SIDS (How twisted is that?) Then I just keep waking up.... I go to work yesterday morning and after about 2 hours I start to get real light-headed and nauseous and my ears were burning like someone had embarrassed me to the extreme. I came home after being at work 4 hours. I felt sick to my stomach all day but thought it was because I hadn't eaten. WHen I finally ate, I couldn't stop eating. Then I did, and 2 hours later I was feeling sick again.
Not thinking anything about it being the drug, I took another one last night at 6:30. When I finally went to bed at midnight, the nightmares started all over again. I wake up crying, my body wracked with sobs, tears rolling down my face.
I don't want to keep taking this medicine if it is causing all of this but I don't have the money to go back to the doctor for something else, and I can't afford to still have bronchitis. What am I to do?

Doc gave me this drug for a nasty sinus infection. I was supposed to take 2 a day for l4 days. Today is day 7 and I have stopped taking it.
I am battling red, itchy eyes, flaming, itchy areas between my toes and it is starting between my fingers. My lips are numb and I just noticed my baby toes are swollen (go figure).
I've taken an antihistamine and quite frankly, I'm nervous. On top of all that mess, when I woke up with red eyes, I assumed it was pink eye b/c I teach preschool. It was Sat., so the doc called me in antibiotic eye drops, polymixin. The nurse at the BC/BS 24 hour help line said it contains some of the same ingredients as the sulfameth. Never again!

I took this medication on 10/10/05 and became terribly sick, extreme headaches and my eyes are bloodshot read which makes me look as if I have a severe case of "Pink" eye. I know I'm allergic to this medication.

i went to DOCS on July 3rd, for Pink eye and a sore throat, thy prescribed drops for my eye and LEVAQUIN for the infection in my eye and throat, i got home took 1 pill and about 4 hours later woke up with a terrible headache and mild palpitations. i called them back on the 4th and i was told palpitations were not a side affect and if i was still experiencing it to go to the emergency room. i feel fine now i only took the 1 pill and the rest will be flushed down the toilet bowl where they belong. my uncle who works in a pharmacy told me that LEVAQUIN was also linked to a local man trying to jump off a bridge. i WILL NOT take them anymore i have an 11 month old son to take care of. im so glad i got up and checked out the side effects or i would have taken another pill today
