I have/had severe endometriosis and began using BCPs therapeutically after having my left ovary and fallopian tube removed due to a large endometrioma. I used Yasmin for over two years and loved it: It calmed my PMS mood swings, did not produce acne, no weight gain, and no between-period spotting. I switched to Yaz for three months, but my periods became irregular and I had spotting issues, so I went back on Yasmin. I never stuck with a BCP before because all others produced the aforementioned side effects.

Unfortunately, with Yasmin, my blood pressure went from the 120/70 range to the 180/90 range in two years. My OB GYN was so alarmed by the increase that she actually made me lay down for half an hour so she could retest me. The second reading (after resting) was even worse than the first.

The doctor took me off Yasmin immediately and now I'm on the blood pressure medication "Prinzide" which is causing horrible side effects.

I wish I'd never taken Yasmin.

I am 40 yrs young.... I have terrible PMS with anger to rage mood swings that are sinful.... I considered the birth control pills but my life is simply too busy & I wouldn't remember to take them... I used the BC patches which worked fine but left a rash on my backside..... I had to stop using it because I had high blood pressure and it increased my risk of stroke/ heart attack.... . I felt like the Mirena was a good fit because I wouldn't have to worry about birth control for 5 yrs....At 40, I'm just getting started with all the "FUN"...LOL... I had the copper IUD but it made my periods long (up to 7 days), heavy & I had horrible cramps....

I got the IUD inserted last week Wednesday, yeap, it hurted like H3!! going in.... as soon as my GYN was done putting it in, I had really bad heartburn for a few hours..... I had a tightness in my chest and a dull pain in my left thigh.. she said it was normal and just take some Advil... the next few days I had some light bleeding and cramping...I also had diarrhea for three days.

On the 3rd day, I noticed a serious mood change.. I was going about my day just fine than I got really bitchy.... I snapped at my co-workers and I was down right irritable..... like the PMS mood swings I was trying to get rid of.....

I don't know if its Mirena or me but my sex drive has skyrocketed--- I can't get enough-- I'm thinking about & wanting sex all the time.... engaged in risky encounters with my BF while the cable guy was in our home.... I'm tempted to call the telephone installer to hook up with him... WHY????? ... this is not who I am... I'm mousy & conservative.... I've never felt like this before....

I was concerned about the possible weight gain (i'm 109 lbs on a small frame) because I don't want to gain any more than 5 lbs... I noticed I was eating a lot of cookies ( which is what I crave during PMS) this weekend and had a taste for fried fish.....

I had this feeling of a lump in my throat and a dull ache on my spine.... I also feel like I have to have a bowel movement but nothing comes out.... it usually starts with a cramp like bubble gut but nothing comes out ?????

I've started a journal of my mood, appetite, weight changes and sleep patterns to report back to my GYN in two months.... Honestly, if in two months, things get worst, it's coming out....I already use condom so I'll just have to be extra careful....

I wish I had found this website before I put it in.... I will keep reading here and post an update after my return visit to my GYN in 2 months.... I hope this helps some has much as reading the other post had helped me... Peace to us All...

For those of us who have had it removed now, is anyone having luck losing weight again? I am so frustrated with the 40-lbs I gained in ONE YEAR that I am considering a nutritional health coach to get me back on track. I feel fat and miserable - but I still feel 10 times better now that this THING is OUT!!! However, I will say that last week I had severe PMS mood swings for the first time in years now that I am off hormones ... I was an evil PMS PRINCESS - but still no signs of a cycle yet.

I am 25 and have been taking Yasmin for about a year and a half. I switched to it because it would help my acne breakouts (face and chest/back),
as well as "reduce bloating" according to my doctor.
It did indeed help with helping calm down the PMS mood swings around 'that time of the month'.
However, especially in the last few months, I have noticed a very dramatic decrease in my libido and bouts of being down or 'blue' aka depression-like symptoms, as well as breast tenderness. Also strangely enough, one of the side effects listed on the info sheet claims it can cause bloating. So who do I believe? This is my point exactly...

Ladies, take 5 minutes and CAREFULLY READ THE INSTRUCTIONS that come inside the box of your Yasmin pills. When you do, you might be surprised by what you find, like I was.
I have been on several types of birth control since I was about 17, from Tri-cyclen, to Diane-35 and others.

What the doctors and pharmaceutical companies DON'T tell us, is that female sex hormones can cause cancer. This is literally written in the fine print on the info you get with your pills. It's there you just have to look for it.
Think about it... these companies get paid masses of money to keep you ignorant and thinking that there is little to no risk of taking birth control pills. They won't get paid if millions of women stop taking their doses.

Even my mom, who was taking hormones to balance out her menopausal issues, has a increased risk of cancer now due to taking hormones.

Just research it a little bit, google it and you will see.
Birth control pills can have permanent effects, and even temporary effects that cause you to feel miserable.
This is your life, your health, and we have to be aware of what we are putting in our bodies!!!!!!
Is gaining 5 lbs or having a few pimples really worth the risk of depression and the possibility of cancer??

I am not extremest, that is, I am not saying that no females should take birthcontrol pills. I understand there will always be a demand.
But this forum is important because it let's us share our worries. I am worried for myself (will these hormones contribute to breast cancer issues later in life?), and I am worried for all the girls out there who want the benefits of a pill (clear skin, regular periods) don't know that the side effects can be life threatening.

Educate yourself!! , don't believe everything the drug companies tell you, and what the doctors DO NOT tell you.
Remember, YOU are the only expert on YOU!

I have been prescribed Lamictal for seizures, and am currently taking 400mg daily, with my 300mg of Dilantin. Had horrible side effects this weekend-nightmares, exhausted, worsening depression, crying jags, difficulty swallowing. Has anyone else experienced mood changes for the worse while on this drug?

Day five of Yasmin. Yesterday I was soooo thirsty! I couldn't stop drinking. I think I know where it all went, my stomach and lower body! It looks like I am 6 months along. I have never been this bloated before. I hope it goes away once my body has adjusted to the hormones. In addition, the terrible headaches. As the doctor suggested, I am going to give it a month. I truly hope it helps with the PMS (mood swings, cramps, etc.), that is the reason I am on this stuff.
