I started taking Topamax Jan. 19, 2007 for my migraine headaches. For the first week and and a half, I didn't drive anywhere because I felt 'loopy' (guess that's the correct word). I would say things that I couldn't believe I said! Then I was ok. My migraines aren't as severe. I have noticed that I can only eat small portions of food then I am full which is not common for me. I have lost 7 pounds and this is the 10th of Feb. My hair is not falling out like others I have read about on here. I have noticed that the ones that are losing their hair are taking very high dosages of the medication. I am taking 50mg. I hope the best for everyone.

i've been on for only a week or so.
i'm experiencing some mild, persistent headaches. possibly a little trouble sleeping, but i might take it in the morning and see if that helps. occassional and mild nausea. my appetite has cut itself in half, which is okay as my portions were too large anyways. food just doesn't taste the same.

I was experiencing all the side affects and more PRIOR to taking this medication. What brought it all to light was having a menstrual flow since Jan. 10th and ending early March. I realize there will be side effects I have to deal with - also we must remember there are other factors involved - do we smoke, drink alcohol, eat processed foods, eat too much refined sugars, caffeine? Given the opportunity as I slept way too much prior to this drug, if one of the side effects is that I can't sleep - I'll have a valerian root tea at 8:30 p.m to be in bed by 9:00. Cut out alcohols, caffeine, etc. Should nauseau arise - eat smaller portions through out the day. Should constipation arise - increase water and a less fiber intake. We as individuals must try to find that fine medium to a balanced lifestyle and not depend on the doctors for all of our answers. Our bodies and chemical equations are extremely complex and will be for quite some time.

My son is 6 1/2 and very active. He has been taking zyrtec and nasonex for about 3 years. He has always been a little on the heavy side since about 3 years old even though his eating and activity level would not support this. About 3 months ago we added singulair to the mix because the other 2 meds just don't seem to do the tricks for his allergies in the fall and winter and needless to say he has been healthier as far as that goes that he ever has, however his weight keeps going up and up and his face looks swollen. He is about 9 pounds overweight. We have increased exercise, lower fat diet and reduced portions but nothing is working he keeps gaining. He is 6 1/2 and weighs 67 pounds. I called my dr today to see if he knows if the meds could be the cause and he did some research and says he can not find anything to support this. Any help, input or information would be appreciated.

After about two weeks of use, I started having dry mouth, severe swelling of different portions of my upper an lower lip and sides of my face. Also, ! had hives all over my body, which would subside after around 8 to 12 hours after taking an antihistamine. I also experienced difficulty swallowing.
