I have been on yasmin for 2 months and I have been experiencing negative side effects, however not as bad as the ones on ortho-lo. The first week on yasmin my breasts blew up like balloons (which might make some happy but since I already had D cups I am less then thrilled) and they are so tender, swelled and painful to the point that I can barely walk without being in pain. It is the pain that your breasts experience right before your period but this is times 10, and its all month long. Interestingly, the week when I have my period the pain disappears and starts back up when i take the new pack. Another symptom is weight gain, I'd say around 4-5 lbs, which has been unusually difficult for me to get off. Lastly, a few weeks ago I had a migraine for the first time ever, and after reading that many of you have been experiencing migraines I realize that it must be the yasmin. The migraine was so bad I was throwing up. I also get light headaches almost every other day. It's miserable.
The only good thing I can say is that I haven't gotten pregnant and my skin has relatively cleared up. Also, to my surprise (and joy) my sex drive has gone through the roof. When I was on ortho-lo I had no sex drive so this is actually a positive thing which I was not expecting.
This site has made me realize that I am not alone in my symptoms! I hope this helps everyone that is taking Yasmin or considering starting it.

For Newcomers to this site, summarizing information posted about symptoms that are common and steps you can take to learn and research besides trying to read through 2900 entries that start to feel like you are reading through individuals dialogues
Side effects:
Chest Pain
Anxiety
Depression
Dehydration
Weight loss
Extreme Fatigue
Clogged/painful ears
Listlessness
Vision Changes
Overall, not one positive thing posted by anyone who has been on Yasmin/Yaz for more than two years. Seems that women over 35 have the most trouble-and or/women with possible hormonal changes/imbalances to begin with.
Check www.worstpills.org
Report Side Effects: www.fda.gov
Call and report effects to teh pharmaceutical company
Unless you take action, Yasmin and Yaz will stay on the market for years to come. many more women will get sick and some very seriously so as you will find if you read through this site, the negative and damaging effects are lengthy and continue to grow.

hi, sorry to hear that your daughter has gone down hill again. unfortunately this is a really common problem, a lot of us that had depression/anxiety and scary thoughts find we still have problems during our ovulation and also right before our periods, it does get easier each month but it is still there. i can imagine at the moment she is doubting herself and is thinking "what if it is not the yasmin after all and i am actually mentally ill"? she would not be alone in that thought,we have all been there. i have been off yasmin for 6 months now and most of the time i can handle it,my anxiety levels day to day are very low but pre-menstrally it can still throw me know and again and have me thinking the same thought, but i know it is not true,it is just my hormones trying to recover. pms A has most of the symptoms we all suffer so i have concluded that instead of helping with pms yasmin can actually cause it. it seems like all we can do is wait and have faith that it will get better and also take care of our bodies nutritionally and physically. i really hope that your daughter starts to feel better soon, she is sooo young and should not have to suffer this at her age. she is obviously a very responsible young lady and thought that taking yasmin was a positive thing to do, we have all suffered the consiquences of taking this poison but luckily we are all here to support each other and to reasuure each other that it does get better.you are doing a wonderful job of supporting your daughter, that will be a great help to her. i really do wish you and her all the best, look up pms A symotoms and see if there are any tips to help on a monthly basis.

Hello!
I'm 17 years old and active. I've been taking Yasmin for about 6 months now and I can't get rid of these TERRIBLE migraines. Headsplitting, can't think, can't work, can't focus kind of headache. Some mornings I wake up extremely disoriented and dizzy. This diziness usually stays with me throughout the day. Often, the week before my period I begin getting cramps despite still taking my active pills. However, the only positive thing I have to say is that my acne has almost cleared up entirely, something I've been struggling with since puberty.
A checkup is in order for me! I hope this helps someone else?

I have been on Yasmin for 5 months. I'm 19, and decided to start taking the pill for both contraception and my bad acne, which I've had my entire teenage life. Throughout my 5 months I have suffered with a variety of side effects, including nausea, migraines (which I'd never had in my life before), leg and feet cramping, crying a lot - depression, tender and swollen breasts, vaginal dryness and worst of all a decreased sex drive. Has anyone else suffered from this? It's been so bad that Yasmin has been a contraceptive in a way I never expected. And this took me a while to realise, because being only 19 and very sexually inexperienced, I wasn't really sure what my normal sex drive should be.
I have therefore decided, to stop taking Yasmin, and allow my body to get back to normal. I was also wondering how long it would take? And if there is any kind of detox diet I could do, to get this awful chemical out my body.
The only positive thing Yasmin has done, is it's cleared up my acne and regulated my previously irregular period.
But, I'd rather have spotty skin and a sex drive any day. Yasmin is an awful pill, I just can't believe how glorified drs seem to make it seem. Someone needs to do something, people need to know, what risk they are really putting their bodies at when they take this thing.
Please reply.

I have been on Yasmin for about 6 months now and thought that everything was going great. I was FINALLY regulated (my previous pill created on-going breakthough bleeding) and could be at peace with my boyfriend and our sex-life. Recently, though, I feel like I am literally going crazy. The anxiety is unreal (I've never had a panic like feelings from non-envirnmental stimuli) and I feel like my thoughts are turning against me. It is freaking me out in addition to compromising my daily functioning and quality of life. I am so relieved to read about other women who have experienced exagerrated and distorted anxious thoughts (although it is not a positive thing!). But now I'm scared that they will persist even if I get off Yasmin...Do changes in hormone levels affect our thoughts and anxiety?
Thanks!!!

Hi Girls,
I've been on Yasmin for 2 weeks and have been experiencing some new changes since taking this pill that have caused me to look online for some advice on side effects. Basically I have been reading through some of the horror stories here and just want to know if I should stop taking this stuff now before its too late! I have had a coil (hormone free) for 2 1/2 years which has been fine , just a couple of painful heavy days during the cycle but otherwise love it. The reason I decided to go on Yasmin was to hopefully help me with PMS symptoms of mild depression, low sex drive, and bloatedness for the 10 days before my period starts. So far it is hard to see whether these symptoms will improve as it is early days. So far I have been bleeding , painfully but not too heavy since I started this pill, I have lost about 10 pounds in weight which is probably the only positive thing and also a very tempting reason for me to stay on it, but the last few days I have felt a bit depressed again and low sex drive and super sensitive about everything, v needy and insecure , plus weak and tired ,not good!
Do you think I should stop now or give it till the end of month?
I did try prozac fo PMT for 6 months last year which really helped but don't want to be hooked on anti depressants for life, even though they kept my weight down too I gained 15 pounds when I came off them.
I have just bought agnus cactus, but is it enough?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!
P.S. Anyone thinking of trying the coil to stop babies, I highly recommend it!!

Hi everyone, I have been taking Yasmin for about 6 months...I am glad I found these postings...I also have many of these side effects listed here, gas, bloating, dizziness, nausea, severe stomach pains and diarrhea, migrains, I feel like sometimes I am in a total fog...I called Dr. of course they say this pill won't cause the stomach symptoms, but I know I never had this problem before I started taking Yasmin, The only positive thing out of it is I lost about 15 lbs....honestly I would rather weigh 1000 lbs than feel like this!...I am switching to Alesse this weekend hopefully will feel better!...Good Luck All!!!

I am taking 100 mg at bedtime for bipolar type II, I was on 50 mg for 2 weeks. I told the doctor of the tingling in my hands feet and face and she did not even know that was a side effect of the med. I also have been having some pretty bad anxiety soon after I take my dosage at bedtime. I feel like I am seeing little black bugs every now and then. Other side effects...some short term memory loss, sometimes cant think of the right words, general scatterbrained..but alot of these things i had before I was on the Topamax ...they were just intesified when I started taking it. Well, one good thing has come from it, i have lost 6 pounds in the past 2 1/2 weeks. But that is the only positive thing. I am seriously starting to think it is beginning to trigger a mood swing. (not a good thing) If it doesn't start to improve soon I will discontinue this med.

Was on Yasmin for about 1 1/2 years, I have suffered from leg & foot cramps, pains in chest & arms, pins and needles in arms, headaches, detoritating vision, nausea, breathlessness, tiredness and kidney infections (caused by the diuretic in it), weight gain, constipation and heavy periods, thought I was becoming serioulsy ill, felt like 70 instead of 30. The only positive thing about this pill was that I didn't get pregenant.
Am off it now about a month and all symptons are just gone.

i have been on mirena now for 3 yrs after having my son, since then i've had depression, insomnia, exessive tiredness, mood swings, but worst of all is no libido...(of course i'm not going to get pregnant if i never want to have sex!)
i think the side effects get worse with time....i'm seriously considering taking it out, the only positive thing i got out of it is that i don't get my periods....
