I have been on Toprol for 6 mos, after switching from the generic metoprolol for 1.5 years. It has made a HUGE difference being on the name brand versus the generic and well worth the extra $$. The generic would cause heart palp, stomach problems etc. I even asked the pharmacist if there was a difference in generic vs name brand and he said yes..same active ingredient but who knows what else they put in there. Blood pressure went from 150/90 to 114/76, but I have also changed my lifestyle to low-salt, walking at least 3x a week, more positive thinking!. Also I have lost weight after getting on this pill @20 pounds but not sure if its because of the lifestyle change or what. The only bad aspects of this pill is the depession it can cause and I do seem a bit anxious sometimes, especially at night. I am 38 y/o with no family history of high bp, currently taking 100mg.

Help me! I have stopped taking Yasmin for about 4 or 5 months because my husband and I want to conceive. I AM STARTING TO LOSE MY HAIR! I am so worried about this as I am losing at least double the normal amount everyday and this has been happening for about a week now. I have noticed the difference as my hair is not very thick. My husband has noticed. My friend says she can't tell, but if you look in my bathroom and my comb you would think I was undertaking radiotherapy. I went to my doctor two days ago and she thinks it could be thyroid or iron problems. She thinks it could be ceasing the pill but is unsure......PLEASE, is there ANYONE who has experienced this? And if so will it stop? I am so distressed about it.

Hi there,

I have a question for anyone who is able to answer. Did you ever do any crazy things while you were taking this drug? For example, when you felt paranoid did you act on it? Also, in terms of irrational thought... what kind of things did you think about?

2 DAYS!!! That's it ladies. I had the dang on thing in for two days. I'd found this website on Day1(Monday)...cause only after 30mins of having it in, I was having weird tighten cramping like crazy. Later in the day they subsided...some! On Day2 (Tuesday), it was like a dark cloud was coming over me (depression?). It was no positive thinking going on ladies. To know me, people come to me when their down. I was also bloated beyond belief... Mind you, I'd just inserted this thing after my regular period (following the directions). So, on the 3rd Day Wednesday), experiencing more cramping, more depression, more bloating... I'd had enough. After reading blogs I knew the best thing to do was to REMOVE the ring. When I pulled out the ring it had a thick white substance on it. WTF!!! Then on Saturday, I started having cramps, and would you know that on Sunday, I started my PERIOD, again!!!! WTF, Really! And, this was no ordinary period... it was everything these women have talked about. It had a smell, it was bloody red/brown mixed, and still today (Thursday) I gotta odor and only brown discharge...GRRRRR!!! Messed up 1pair of panties. I'm mad. Ladies, listen up DO NOT USE THE NUVA RING!! 2days = 2weeks of Bull-----. Bottom-line, it ain't worth it. Sadly, NuvaRing was my 3rd and last BC option. I'm off to find those women condoms. Eureka!!!

hi kim123.
i did not take lexapro, i tried diazepam for a very short while but it did not help me long term,it just took the edge off.i stopped it because it is very addictive. i did use the linden method,it is very good but i just did not have the time to do all the realxation cd's as i have 2 small children and getting 20 mins silence in my house would be almost as much of a miracle as me waking up cured! i imagine any kind of relaxation tape would be good.you need to relax your body and relax your mind, the linden method tapes basically tell you that your anxiety cannot hurt you and you do visualisations that include filling up imaginary clouds with your fears etc. if you have the time to do it then i recommend it. i also read loads of books on positive thinking and changing your life by changing your thought patterns. i know how you feel right now. i used to wake up and feel ok then within litterally seconds of getting up i would be full of fear and anxiety.i no longer feel that way.so it will get better for you to. if you do not want to increase your dose of lexapro then try the relaxation techniques.you can do it yourself by finding a comfy spot and thinking of a lovely peacefull scene, relax all your muscles and fill your mind with positive thoughts like how strong you are and how wonderfull your life, tell yourself you have no room for fear and negative thoughts, imagine a cloud and send all your negative thoughts into the cloud and just let them float away. it will take a while but you will feel more relaxed day by day.

hi kim123.
keep track of your periods, make a note of when you are ovulating etc,you may see some changes in feelings and behaviour. i think silke suggested writting a diary every day of your feelings, sensations, aches and pains. i did that too and it helped me spot a pattern in my mood changes but it also shows me how much i have improved since i stopped taking yasmin in june. i know it seems like you will never be normal again but you will it will just take a little time. unfortunately there is no magic number of time that makes us better,it just takes as long as it takes, please try not to become depressed and low as this will only make things worse. have you tried going for a nice long swim? i found swimming to be very relaxing. when i was at my worst i spent quite a few hours in the pool as swimming forces you breath properly and your brain needs to be concentrating on co-ordinating your arms and legs to keep you afloat! excercise is also one of the best ways to help your system to recover, you will sweat out excess hormones etc there have been lots of studies on diet and excercise for women with hormonal problems and pms/pmdd and also depression/anxiety. it is certainly worth a try. i am so sorry i cannot just say..hey take this it will cure everything you are going through,i have never found just one thing that helped me but all the little things accumulate and make a pretty good start. i felt like you about the anti depressants etc.my doctor kept trying to give them to me but i was too scared of the side effects to even consider them, they may have helped me i don't know,i chose positive thinking.cognitive behaviour techniques, healthy diet, excercise and vitamin/mineral supplements but that may not be right for everyone.we all have to find our own way through, but know that you have the support of everyone here.

dejay,
yes i got really greasy hair after i stopped yasmin,i lost loads of hair too, thankfully it is growing back now! i don't get the cystic spots on my scalp i have them all around the front of my ears and down the sides of my neck, they are gross and really sore. i also get a monthly outbreak of really huge sore spots on my chin and jaw line. i hate them but would rather have them than feel how i did whilst i was on yasmin. my skin was lovely on it,it's just a shame it turned me into a complete basket case that could not step foot outside of the front door to show off my lovely skin!

best wishes to you ladies.

hi claudia, you poor thing,i really feel for you,i know exactly how you are feeling right now as i have been there. that kind of workbook does your psychotherapist have you following? how do they suggest you deal with the panic/anxiety attacks? that may be the best place to start,i know what worked for me but i searched for my own methods.please let me know what they suggest and i will see if i can give you some practical tips that will help. as far as cleaning out your system... i take magnesium daily,as well as a b complex and b6. stear clear of tea and coffee, drink camomille tea to soothe your nerves and to help restful sleep.you could also try nettle tea to cleanse the liver as the liver has to process all the excess hormones you need it to be working at it's best to rid you of toxins faster. eat a diet high in fibre as the fibre will also cleanse your system and will help remove excess hormones. other than that drink loads and loads of water as dehydration is an anxiety sufferers worst enemy. it will take time but you WILL get better, you really need to work on the mental aspect of the panic attacks with positive thinking techniques etc.as i said before let me know what treatments your psychotherapist has suggested and i will see if i can add to it. i won't say i don't still have a little anxiety about panic attacks happening but i have many great techniques that i use that have so far......kept me panic attack free. please get back to me and i will do all i can to help. i could give you some book titles that i read that really helped me if you would like, you can buy them on ebay for very little cost. also which country do you live in?

Dear Guest 33726-

I went off of Yasmin 2 months ago. I went instead onto Orthocept which I took years ago but will likely "wean" myself off of this as well when some of alot of transition that is happening in my life has become more settle. My ears are still plugged though they are not hurting as much as they used to while I was taking it so that should be hopeful for you. And I'm not as "foggy" headed as I was while on it. I used to take it and feel exhausted afterwards, yawn all day and pee up a total storm.

Two months off, though I am still experiencing chest pains (they were really bad last few days), ears are better. I also got a cold in September (same time I went off of the Yasmin) and it lasted for 2 whole long months! Then I was feeling a little bit more back to normal and then got sick again for this last week. I've never been sick like this in my life.

I can't link all of this to Yasmin but I've definately seen the patterns and confirmed what looks like similar experiences to so many others here (like colds, sinus and otherwise), chest pains, plugged ears, constant urination due to the diuretic effect, exhuastion and feeling blue.

I have also gained 7 lbs in just 1 month since going off of the Yasmin. Did this happen to anyone else? !!! One of the greatest benefits on it was losing weight (I am sure due to the diuretic effect)-but the trade-off of all the rest of the side effects so not worth it.

Hang in there. Things will get better. Much of them already have for me. Least I think so. And staying positive, thinking positive really important too.

hi andiegags,
i can totally relate to what you are saying,i used to find that even on yasmin 14 days before my period was due my anxiety levels would sky rocket, i used to take diazepam for my anxiety but decided to stop taking it and learn to deal with my anxiety,it sounds easier said than done i know! the 1st step is to keep telling yourself that the feelings of anxiety are not important as there is nothing to be anxious about and to just keep thinking positively that it will go away, you are in no danger and there is nothing wrong. now i am off yasmin (6 weeks) i have had 2 periods,i still feel a little more anxious before my periods but now i know that i will i am prepared and it doesn't freak me out so much, i found that by using positive thinking techniques i was a ble to stop taking the diazepam and can now cope on my own as i did not want to rely on drugs to ease the symptoms because as far as i am concerned drugs started this in the 1st place (ie taking the yasmin)
best wishes to you.
