Power in numbers symptoms and conditions

My 4 year old son started taking singulair when he was two. I don't think I picked up on his behavior change right away b/c I thought that he was just entering the "terrible two's". But over time, his allergist added on Nasonex (I know the docs say that it doesn't cause side-effects b/c it's a nasal spray, but I don't buy that...it's a steroid, plain and simple) and more recently zyrtec was added on for his hives. Well, the zyrtec was the straw that broke the camel's back. I mean, he has been a real "handful" since the singulair, but after zyrtec was added 5 months ago - let's just say he was completely out of my control. His meltdowns were so bad that I couldn't go ANYWHERE with him. I either got a sitter or just didn't go anywhere. He became aggressive, defiant, emotional, unhappy. And to top it off he started to have serious "autistic-like" self-stimulatory behaviors (grinding teeth, squinting eyes shut, flapping his hands, punching himself...). At this point my life had become a complete nightmare, and my poor 10 month old son was getting NO attention b/c my 4 year old was so out of control and aggressive. I was afraid for the baby's safety...oh, I could go on all night. This medication has impacted my marriage, my finances, my sanity. Shortly after he started Singulair I had to go on an antidepressant b/c it too so much out of me just to be his mommy. Anyway, a week ago I had him scheduled for a psych evaluation (thought for sure we were going to walk away with either autism or bipolar diagnosis), but two days before I decided to look up the meds he is on and BINGO! All of these posts sound like what we have been going through. I stopped all of his meds that night, cold-turkey, and he has been the most pleasant little boy I have ever met!! My husband and I have fallen in love with him over the past week - we had no idea he was such a sweet child.

Now, while I'm ecstatic that we have found the answer to our nightmare, I also feel SO STINKIN' ANGRY! We lost out on 2 years with our sweet boy, there were times when we raised our voices at him when he just couldn't help himself - he was suffering inside!! When I went to talk to the allergist about my findings this past week, he said, "well, maybe he just had a good day. I'd like to see what happens if he goes off all his meds for a week". Well, there you have it, he has been off for one week and he's an absolute angel. He has an amazing heart and is so caring!!!

Singulair is awful (and so is zyrtec). Please don't give this drug to your children. Research other alternatives (I am giving my son Nordic Naturals Fish Oil, Culturelle probiotics, vitamin c, and am changing his diet - increased magnesium and decreased dairy. I came up with this after hours of research...).

There is a woman on this site whose daughter committed suicide after 3 years on Singulair. This is no joke and the FDA needs to get with it.

BTW, I used to date a Singulair rep (I knew there was something I didn't like about that guy:)

My personal experience with Cipro is what they say is a mild case. To me I felt I would die. I've documented everything blow by blow on a new website ****** I was so angry with the medical profession for crippling me, so I took the time and channeled it into the only thing I could. My daily report. 6 weeks and I'm well on the road to recovery. To all of you who say it can't be done, it can. To all of those who say it will recur, perhaps, but I have great faith in the power of natural supplements to heal and support the body in it's repair. I STARTED TAKING YAZ IN NOV.07. I AM 49 YRS. OLD AND MY OBGYN GAVE ME 2 SAMPLE PACKS IN HIS OFFICE AND SAID THEY WERE SAFE FOR ME TO TAKE AS LONG AS I NOT A SMOKER(WHICH I AM NOT)THESE PILLS WERE TO HELP ME GO THROUGH THE CHANGE WHICH I WAS STARTING TO GO THROUGH.WELL IN JAN 25 08 I WAS RUSHED TO ER. WITH PAIN SO BAD I COULDN'T WALK IN MY LEFT THIGH. I WAS TOLD I HAD A LARGE BLOOD CLOT AFTER THEY DID A ULTRA SOUND.THEN THEY DID A CATSCAN AND FOUND PARTS OF THE CLOT HAD GONE TO MY LUNGS! THEY KEPT ME IN ICU FOR 6 DAYS GIVING ME HEPRIN AND SHOTS IN MY STOMACH AND STARTING ME ON WARFIN.AND GOT MY BLOOD THINNED TO A 2.5. THEY LET ME GO HOME AND TOLD ME TO FOLLOW UP WITH A DOCTOR IN A WEEK! WELL WHEN I GOT AN APPT. HE SENT ME FOR ANOTHER ULTRASOUND AND FOUND OUT THE CLOT HAD INTENED TO MY GROWING SO HE PUT ME BACK IN THE HOSPITAL FOR 5 MORE DAYS AND MORE SHOTS IN THE STOMACH. AFTER I GOT OUT IN WENT BACK TO HIM FOR A FOLLOW UP AND MY LEG AND FOOT WAS SWOLLEN UP WORSE SO HE CALLED A SURGEON AND HE DID SURGERY TO REMOVE THE CLOT FEB.27 08. WELL A WEEK LATER AFTER THE SURGERY ANOTHER ULTRASOUND SHOWED I HAD CLOTTED BACK UP AGAIN. SO THIS SURGEON SENT ME TO ANOTHER SURGEON IN DALLAS,TEX. AND THEY DID AN EXPERMENTAL SURGERY ON ME THE 19-20-21-22 DAYS OF MAY!!! JUNE THE 27TH HE DID ANOTHER ULTRASOUND TO SEE WHAT I LOOKED LIKE AND I HAD CLOTTED BACK UP TO MY FILTER (WHICH WAS PUT IN MY FIRST SURGERY) SO NOW I HAVE A CLOT FROM MY FILTER(WHICH IS BELOW MY LUNGS) ALL THE WAY TO MY LEFT ANKLE. AND THE DOCTOR SAID HE CANT DO ANY MORE SURGERIES FOR AT LEAST A YR. AND FOR ME TO STAY ON MY WARFIN AND WEAR A COMPRESSION HOSE ON MY LEFT LEG FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!! I HAVE TALKED TO 3 LAWYERS AND THEY ALL TURNED DOWN THIS CASE . I GUESS THEY ARE AFRAID OF BAYER. I UNDERSTAND THAT ONE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS IS BLOOD CLOTS . BUT THIS IS NOT NO PLAIN OLD BLOOD CLOT. THIS HAS AFFECTED MY WHOLE LIFE! I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO WORK IN 6 MO.AND I HAVE HOSPITAL BILLS I CANT PAY. THESE PILLS HAS DONE SOMETHING TO MY BLOOD!!!

I am a 19 year old female who has taken Singulair for allergies for about 8 months. As I sit typing this, I am wearing a 24 hour Holter monitor to rule out any serious heart problems. I have been experiencing a high resting heart rate, feeling my heart pounding, fatigue, anxiety, irritability, and pains in my chest/upper back. I went to the ER on Dec 12 because my heart rate was so high, and they found no apparent cause for it, they said "Oh, no, it's fine to take the Singulair". I then followed up with my PCP and she said the same thing, "Yes, it's fine to keep taking it". She was testing me for hyperactive thyroid, and they did blood work that turned up nothing. I will hopefully get the results of the Holter this week and I am hoping they will be clear. I believe that my symptoms are from the Singulair and last night was my last dose. I feel relieved to hear others experiencing these same symptoms, as I was starting to become anxious that I had a very serious or permanent illness. I will update after I am off the Singulair for a while.

This is a horrific story but must be read for those who may want to EVER use this drug. I am a 26 year old female who has had some fatigue/headache problems for the past two years. In an attempt to alleviate some of the symptoms associated with the headaches (burning, tingling, hairloss). So, the doctor administered seven small injections of 3-1 dilluted Kenalog into the top of my scalp. After two weeks I started to notice small indentations at the injection sites. After a month I started to feel painful sore spots all over my head; they were actually raw and bright red. It felt as though someone had placed a hot curling iron on my scalp and left it there! I notified my Dr. who said there were no known side effects with dilluted measures and it couldn't be the cause of it?? So, I waited a few more weeks only to notice that the seven injection sites were now large bald spots where the hair completely stopped growing and then just fell out. There are now VERY deep crater-like formations in my scalp that are tender to the touch that are getting worse and may never go away. The injection actually ate away at the skull! This has been a horrific experience and all my doctor can say is, "Sorry." One thing I want to post is this...yes, this is hugely unfortunate and we are all dealing with some major symptoms here but we are not alone. You know what they say about "power in numbers" so there may be a class-action suit on the way...this is not acceptable so don't let your doctor tell you it is nothing!
